Gene was pursuing his fishing hobby and had a big trout on the stringer. Little did he know that Cape Cod’s fish are smart and powerful. Yes, the trout pulled the fish stringer free from the rocky area in which it was anchored and started to swim away. Gene’s keen eye caught the movement and was not going to let a fish out swim him. Well, he really was not thinking about swimming but the fish was managing the rocks better than Gene. Gene went down – Dive Number 1 – and he missed to hold onto the trout. Up and after the colorful fish again, OOPS…Dive Number 2 – took place and up came Gene with the trout in hand, BUT without his wedding band. All the movement in the water caused the ring to go into hiding. The resulting search did not reveal the ring’s hiding place in a bit over 2 feet of water.

Days later, while watching TV and the story of Jim Wirth returning a Manhattan University ring to its owner 47 years after it was lost, a search for a RingFinder was on. I was contacted and agreed to go look for the missing wedding band. Wait a minute – Gene wanted to watch the search. Just short of a week later Gene and his wife made arrangements to meet me at the loss location. After a short hike and a 15 minute search I had the ring in my scoop. I walk into shore and let Gene take the golden ring, a symbol of 51 years of marriage, from its temporary resting nest among the rocks in my scoop.

On the walk back to the parking lot I gave Gene a big at-a-boy for his dedication to fishing to feed his family. However, he does not eat the fish he catches. Oh, if Gene only had a trout or two he wanted to give me as a gift. No such luck, maybe I will have to take up fishing again, but then there would be no time for being a RingFinder. Heck here on Cape Cod there is enough fish for everyone. I’ll keep on metal detecting. The people I have met are far more interesting than any fish I ever caught.

After the pictures of smiles were taken and a stories of West Hartford, CT (where I am from) were exchanged we bid our good-byes. Gene had the fish and the ring that did not get away! What a great __ __ __ __ story! – you fill in the blanks, HINT: found on a stringer, or found in my scoop.

What a welcome to MBL Woods Hole, MA

Martin, a new student at MBL, (Marine Biological Laboratory), in Woods Hole, had one heck of an unforgettable first night. Nothing like this would happen in his motherland of Germany. It started with bright blue lights all around him, the kind he will never forget. The light was not in he rear view mirror but rather all around him as he wadded in the waist deep waters of Buzzards Bay. However, while thoroughly enjoying the moment, a horrifying second moment occurred that left Martin distracted for the next 27 hours. These hours should have been filled with attention to finishing a cardboard boat for the afternoon’s race he was entered in. No the distraction was not a sting from the harmless jellies, but the loss of his wedding band to Neptune’s dark depths. Not the light from the luminescent jellies nor the light from several waterproof cell phone could expose the ring’s hiding place.

What to do next? What else but Google search for “How in H*** do I find my ring in the ocean?” lead Martin to the web site of TheRingFinders.com. An e-mail sent at 10:30pm was answered an hour later requesting a bit more information and a promise to call around 10am. At 11am I was in the water waving my magic wand. On the seventh target my scoop was filled with black rocks and a glittering gold ring. YES, it was Martin’s. The search was over. Martin removed the ring from the bed of rocks in my scoop and replaced it where it belonged, on his finger, not swimming around with a bunch of jellies.

Pictures, smiles and stories followed along with many congratulations from fellow beach goers.

PS…Martin’s team won the Cardboard Boat Compitition, all team members had a chance to ride the waves. One heck of a great day for Martin. May continued success continue, forever, in all of your endeavors.

I received a call about a Lost Man’s Silver Titanium Wedding Ring. He was throwing a ball to his dog in the backyard when the ring flew off into the yard. He searched and searched was unable to locate the ring. After scheduling the best time to perform a search, I search the yard and there was the ring. He was happy that I was able to find his ring.

Ring found and returned at Carlsbad State Beach

If the sun lotion scenario is the #1 reason for losing a ring at the beach, this is probably #2. It’s the “I took the ring off and put into the chair pocket, forgot it was there, folded chair and packed everything up when we were ready to leave, drove away and then remembered the ring scenario”. Marcus didn’t get far….just out of the parking lot when he realized what he had done. He returned and searched to no avail. Out came the phone and a Google search. He found my ad on Craig’s list and gave me a call. I told him I would be there within the hour and met him at the location. We walked over the the spot where they had the chairs laid out (the most likely spot of the loss) and I started my grid. Maybe 30 seconds later, I get the sound I wanted to hear on my E-trac and scooped out his ring. A happy Marcus gets to go home, tell the wife, and not have to share the accommodations with the dog. A pleasure meeting you Marcus and thank you for the reward.

Lost Diamond and Platinum Ring in Zuma Beach Found in Rocks and Returned

I was metal detecting on Sunday morning with a friend at Huntington Beach at about 5:00 in the morning and took a break at 11:00 to get a snack. I saw that I had a few missed calls, so I checked my voice mails and called back. Veronica answered the phone, and told me that her mom Anna, had lost her diamond ring the day before at Nicholas Beach, about 80 miles away just north of Zuma Beach. Five minutes later, I was on my way. Once I got off the 10 freeway in Santa Monica over an hour later, I hit Pacific Coast Highway. Sunday beach traffic was quite challenging. An hour later I met up with Veronica. I followed her down to the beach and met Anna and her husband. What a nice couple! They showed me where they put the ring into a chair pocket the day before, and thought it was lost in that area in the sand. I worked the grid pattern and worked with the detector down to the water’s edge, but no signals. I hoped that the previous night’s high tide hadn’t bur  ied the ring or swept it out to sea. I asked Anna to retrace her steps when she left in a hurry because the high tide was coming in and covered most of the beach with waves. I worked the detector in between the rocks and got some large iron signals. Then I went over her husband’s matching ring to see the sound it was creating. I detected a few more minutes between the beach and the stairs and I got a crisp, loud signal. I said, “this sounds promising!” The next thing I knew, the ring was in my scoop. I handed it to her husband and he handed it to Anna, who was overwhelmed with joy. They had been happily married over 20 years and her ring was custom made, so it was extremely sentimental. It was a 3 hour drive home in Sunday beach traffic, but the looks of happiness and gratitude on their faces made it all worthwhile. It was a pleasure to help such a great family.

Lost Ring in Breaux Bridge, LA. – FOUND

Bridgette lost her ring at an RV park near Lafayette. She was playing volleyball at the time. After she, her husband and several friends searched the court without success, they looked for expert help. At first, her husband had a hard time believing people really do look for other’s lost jewelry. After he accepted the fact, he called Sid.  Sid was heading out of town, so he had him call Carrie to help out. Carrie enlisted her son, James to help her. James had been on only one other hunt with her, finding his first and only pull tab. It had rained during the night and there was more volleyball played on the court, probably driving the ring deeper.

Carrie and James took the 30 minute drive to the site. After clearing security, getting a description of the ring (a white gold, antiqued diamond ring) from Bridgette and answering questions from other park guests, many of whom had helped search the night before, Carrie and James began. The area was real clean and within 10 minutes, James got his first strong signal. Four inches down was the ring. The look on Bridgette’s, and James’, faces were priceless. Way to go James. I don’t think we will have any trouble getting James to help us again. Thank you Bridgette for the generous reward. This helps us continue to put smiles on people’s faces. By the way, this was Carrie’s turn to find only a pull tab.

Lost Wedding Ring Recovered! Fort Meade, Maryland!

This past Sunday I found myself back on the base at Fort Meade to look for a lost wedding ring. I’m starting to think that the late Civil War General George Meade might have a fondness for rings as this makes my 3rd time on the base to help someone out! Here is Nichole and her story…….

My husband lost his wedding band during PT when they were playing football. We tried searching for the ring on the field, but couldn’t find it. We were convinced it would be lost for good until we came upon Ring Finders. We decided to hire Jim because he has rescued other lost rings from Fort Meade and his ratings are phenomenal. We emailed him the day after the ring was lost, and he met us the next day to help us find it. Jim found the ring within a few hours and we are extremely thankful! Jim is persistent and truly cares about finding your lost ring and with his professional equipment and persistence, we were reunited with the lost ring! Hopefully we never lose another ring, but if we do, Jim will be the first one we contact.

Received a call from Erica around 12:15 this afternoon she sounded very distraught, Erica asked me if it was possible for me to find her platinum diamond ring she just lost this morning while planting her garden I told her I would be there within the hour.

I meet Erica and her husband Jim at their home, Erica immediately showed me where she was working and planting shrubs in the back yard after checking the yard for clues as to where the ring could possibly be I scanned her flower beds and shrubs, with a corner of my eye I spotted her ring laying in the grass beside one of her shrub she just planted.

I received a call about a white gold diamond wedding ring set lost while cleaning off her car from snow and ice. She remembers seeing the rings as she starting scraping the ice off and by the time she completed the whole car and got inside, the rings were missing. She searched and searched with no luck in the snow cover ground.

I got there in the evening with single digit temperatures, a flashlight and my metal detector to start searching. I searched around the car and yard with no luck. Finally, I searched behind the car bewteen the sidewalk and the road where there was undistrub snow. I found one ring and the second about a foot apart from each other.
