Earring Lost, Found, and Returned on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

(June 12) Spring had sprung and summer was nearing. A wonderful time of the year that requires a bit of physical labor in making the yard look picture perfect. While working among the mint plants and amental bushes Anne’s earring became loose. Not wanting it to fall out of her ear Anne removed the earring, put it safely into a pocket and continued her gardening. Enjoying this time of the year and now looking over her accomplishment she finished by tidying up the area before going into her home to replace the earring. Much to her surprise the erring was no longer where she put it for safekeeping.

A search was on. Unfortunately, all the effort went unrewarded. Anne reached out for help and obtained my phone number. It was now her lucky day. I had nothing scheduled for Sunday. The weather was fine and there were open seats on the Haynnis to Oak Bluffs ferry. I made all the arrangements and on Sunday I met Anne at the docks. It was a short trip to her home. We passed many eye-popping sites of colorful Gingerbread Homes, gardens, and quaint stores.

At Anne’s home I assembled my detector, tuned it in and notched out all signals except for the one that was emitted when triggered by the matching earring. The search began, of course it was in the area of the mint plants. Why? Well, the first sniff of the mint brought back memories of the fresh mint sauce my grandmother would make from the fresh mint I had picked for her. This would have been enough gratification for my day’s effort. That was not to last long as there was a more important task at hand. I moved to the area of the shed a few swings of the detector and the ring of gold was in my ears. But I did not see the object causing the detector to react. I turned on my small handheld pin-pointer to search the grass area. It did its job and now I saw the earring, took a picture, retrieved it, and returned to to a now smiling Anne.

Neither my wife nor I had ever been to Martha’s Vineyard. She had made the trip with me to keep me company and visit an area we had planned to visit. Anne was gracious and offered a tour of the island and a stop at Martha’s Vineyard Museum, the Camp area and ending up at the Backdoor Donuts. I just had to bring home some of the area’s BEST Apple Fritter. A sweet and perfect ending to a return that could not have been better.

Dallas, Tx – 72 yr old Alzheimers wife hides all her jewelry and silverware

We received a call from an 86-year-old gentleman who said his 72-yr old wife (who has Alzheimers) had hidden his last set of keys to his car and he needed our help desperately and then he began to cry, it nearly broke my heart; secondly he told me that over the last two years she has hidden all of her jewelry and all of their silver somewhere in their 4000 sq ft home and beautiful yard in Dallas.. we said we would come right out. We went over, checked out the home as the couple had lived there 38 years and had lots of things in the home presenting lots of challenges.  We set up a schedule to come back on a weekly basis to continue the search and go room by room, item by item, which is something very unusual for us to do.  Using our Garrett Pinpointer‘s today we finished our first four hours of searching & found several sets of earrings,  a beautiful lapis bracelet  and some other miscellaneous items that he was very happy to get back. We’re going back again next week as we’re focusing on a very expensive necklace and very special pair of earrings that are missing  totaling somewhere in the area of $35,000 – $70,000 in total jewelry cost.  We consider this as part of our “forgotten fortune” category.  We will keep  you guys updated as we go forward.

Ring Found in Burlington VT

Got an urgent message from a woman who’s close friend had just lost her engagement ring. She gave me some information, pictures of the ring and a phone number to call. So I called her friend right away.

She sounded absolutely devastated. This ring was extremely sentimental. Her fiancé had recently proposed to her and the ring had once been his great grandmother’s. And plus, it was a beautiful ring!

My wife, being the big hearted sweetie she is, told me to go on the search, even though we had plans for the evening. She knew how important this one was, especially being lost in a public area.

So, I left immediately and met her and her fiancé on the beach where she might have lost it. She had also been riding her bike, but we decided the beach was more likely. She and her fiancé had borrowed a metal detector from a friend, so I showed them some basic detecting techniques. I got started with my gridding, and got a ton of junk signals. On the second pass I got a good, semi-shallow signal, pushed my fingers and pinpointer into the sand and felt the shape of a ring. I pulled it out and it was hers!!

When I gave it to her it you could sure see the relief and emotions. I was so happy it was back on her finger and wished them a long happy life together.

I love this hobby! Please click on my name above for more stories and contact information.

Beautiful, Sentimental Gold Charms Lost, Recovered and Returned in Swedesboro, NJ!

  • from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, United States)

Got a late night text from Renee after she found me in the Ring Finder Directory. After a few days of frantic searching and the purchase and attempted use of a cheap metal detector she decided to reach out to a professional! In our text conversation she shared with me that she was out berry-picking at her home in the Swedesboro, NJ area when her hand got caught in her beautiful gold, charm-laden necklace and the chain broke spilling all the charms over a grassy area. She was able to find the chain and 2-3 of the charms but couldn’t locate 2 of them. She told me that she acquired the charms in France many years ago….and they were extremely important to her. I agreed to meet her the following afternoon. Upon arrival to her home I first asked to see the similar charms she was able to recover….I scanned them with my detector to firstly make sure my machine could pick them up and secondly to calibrate my machine to pick up just them when scanning the area. She made it easy for me by marking the area where the chain broke and she found several of the charms. I was about 3 minutes into the search when my machine let out a sweet low tone that suggested gold! With Renee at my shoulder I bent down and pushed some grass out of the way….there they were! The immediate relief and joy showing on Renee’s face makes it all worth it! I was very happy to be able to reunite Renee with her very important and sentimental charms!

Lost Wedding Ring at Utah Lake- Found

Monday I got a call from Taija who had just lost her wedding ring over the weekend at Utah lake. The weather was very nice over the weekend but we had a big storm roll through and it had dropped the temperature into the 40’s on Monday. I headed down to meet Taija at the marina in Lindon and walk the areas where she had been. She took off her ring before getting out of the car and then proceeded down to the water’s edge. After taking a dip in the lake, she returned to the car and that is when she realized the ring was missing. I started to search where she had left her clothes on the bank of the lake. Lot’s of lead sinkers and trash everywhere!!! To make the search even more difficult, the lake shore was nothing but rocks with plenty of cracks where the ring could hide. After about 2 hours, I circled back to where she had took her shorts off and noticed a firepit that had been covered up with some rocks. Since I was unable to get down into the cracks, I started moving rocks around and that’s when I got the signal. I looked down and laying in the firepit was the beautiful white gold ring with several diamonds. Taija had told me that they were celebrating their 10 year anniversary this summer and was planning on upgrading the ring. With the cold wind and rain, she had headed back to her house so after getting back to the car, I gave her a call to tell her the good news!  Needless to say she was very happy to get the phone call and I was very happy to be out of the cold wind. I drove straight to her house where I was able to return the ring! All in all it was a tough search but happy I was able to find it! Congrats on your 10 year anniversary Taija!
