Over the summer of 2022 I received many calls for help along with this couple on vacation visiting San Diego when this precious gold wedding band disappeared into the fluffy sands at mission bay the night before.

I hopped on the freeway immediately after talking to Jacob cause I know freshly dropped rings don’t last long hidden in the beach sands…(It’s just a matter of time before a treasure hunter beach combs that area). Within a 40 min drive & roughly 30min grid search using my metal detector,,I was able to unearth their ring just in time as they we’re heading back home that day.

If you have lost a precious ring or jewelry don’t hesitate to call,,Time will work against you. These California beaches are littered with newbie pirates & the ocean is hungry for lost treasures!

Lost – Men’s Gold Wedding Ring, Southern Shores, Outer Banks, OBX, NC – FOUND!!!

On Sunday, I got a FB message from Linda.  She explained that her husband, Steve, had lost his wedding ring while doing some work on their property in Southern Shores.  I gave her a call and we arranged for me to come over the following day.  It seemed like it would be an easy hunt.

The next day when I arrived, I met Linda and Steve.  They took me a spot near the garage where Steve had been cutting and stacking firewood.  The area was covered with leaves and a few pallets of wood.  When I fired up the XP Deus II, all I heard was noise.  I quickly found out the area I was searching had underground power lines and electromagnetic interference (EMI) which made it nearly impossible to search.

I tried the standard noise canceling and frequency changes, but nothing worked.  I spent about an hour searching and found the usual cans, trash, and yard debris.  I left disappointed and not knowing if I could ever find the lost ring.

A few days later, I hijacked my wife’s gold wedding ring, I found an area in my yard with similar EMI and made some changes to my program to be able to filter out the interference.  VOILA, it worked!

On Thursday, I called Linda and told her that I’d like to come out tomorrow and try again…she agreed.  When I arrived, I activated the changes and began the search.  Shortly thereafter, I got a great hit…it was a piece of foil.  A short time later, another hit.  I removed some leaves and found the ring buried in less than an inch of dirt!

I took the ring to the house and presented it to Steve.  The ring that had been so dear to the couple for 44 years was home!

Lost White Gold Engagement & Wedding Rings at Aulani Resort…FOUND!!!

This Ring Find began when I got a call from the Aulani concierge desk.  The hostess told me one of their guests lost her Engagement and Wedding Rings in the sand on the beach and if I was available for recovery.  She handed me off to Danielle who was on vacation from San Diego and told me she put her rings in the waistband of her shorts to attend to her baby and after walking down to the water’s edge she realized they had fallen out.  After an intense search the beach team told her we have a guy.  I was just finishing up work for the day and I told Danielle that I’d go home, grab my gear and head out to the resort to search.  I told her to stop searching and just relax until I got there.  When I arrived Daniele’s Mom Debbie met me at the beach equipment rental stand and then walked me down to the search area.   I decided to hunt the open area before we had to move any beach chairs.  After covering that area with no ring found, Debbie had already started moving the chairs for me.  On the first sweep and at the extreme end of the grid I got a loud #6 on the Nox and in one scoop there were Danielle’s beautiful rings.  The tourists around us started clapping and Danielle came down and said, ” That’s certainly my ring and you are the best!”  Then we hugged and rejoiced at the successful recovery.  Aloha to Danielle!

Ring found at Navarre Beach

Steve called me asking if I could find a ring. Steve’s wife lost her new anniversary ring while doing some yard work at their home in Navarre. Their backyard has a lush landscape with a thick carpet of grass where a ring could easily fall in and be hard to locate. In addition there property bordered a forested area with fairly thick understory vegetation. They didn’t know where the ring was lost, so Steve and I recreated their activity as best he could remember. First I carefully searched the grass areas with no luck. Next was going into the shrub plantings, also no luck. Then I expanded the search area assuming the backyard was the most likely place to look since that’s where she was working, no luck strike 3. In desperation I decided to look in the forested area bordering their backyard. I started a north/south grid about 5’ wide. There were no targets in the understory, clean ground with no metal in it. So when I got a signal it screamed, the sound was unmistakable, the sound of gold! Somehow the ring had left her finger and traveled about 15’ into the woods. I never met Steve’s wife because she was working that day but Steve called her and she was overjoyed. Ring recovered, everyone smiling, no more worries, made my day!

Lost – Vehicle Key FOB, Kill Devil Hills, OBX, NC – FOUND!!!

Angela was taking her first trip to OBX.  What a beautiful day; the sun was out, and the temperature was in the high sixties.

As she went up the very sandy beach access with her with her two dogs on leash, seeing the beach in the distance she was thrilled.  Suddenly an off-leash dog approached her dogs, in the scuffle to keep her dogs safe, she lost her balance and ended up in the sand.

Regaining her bearings, she walked down to the beach to enjoy the waves and sand.  As she left, she realized she no longer had her car’s key FOB.  She looked and looked…no luck.  She met a person who lives at a nearby condo who said, “Call OBX-Ed,” and gave her my number.

I received the call around 5pm.  Angela described her situation and I told her that I could be there in a few minutes.

When I arrived, Angela showed me the vehicle access she had walked up.  It had very deep, soft sand, with deep ruts.  I began the search.  Finding only a bottle cap on the vehicle approach we continued out to the area on the beach where the dogs had their kerfuffle.

Shortly after, the XP Deus 2 let out a scream.  I saw a plastic edge of what I suspected was the FOB!  I bent over and retrieved the valuable item and held it up saying, “Is this the lost FOB?”  Angela was thrilled!!!

It was a Black Monday for the company and I was engulfed in an imaginative build-out of Duplo Legos with my boys.  The weather was worsening and it was only a matter of time before rain returned the the Bay Area.  I received a message from Leanne in Danville.  Her husbands wedding band had flown off of his hand in the side yard while preparing for the next round of storms to hit.  Help would be requested!

I enthusiastically called Leanne back and within 30 minutes, I was headed down the 680 towards the days search.  It was my hope to quickly get in and get out before the deluge began and I knew that with the information provided from the couple, this could be the case…they knew it was there and we just had to locate it.

Upon arrival, I met Michael in the drive.  He quickly filled me in of the events that had occurred the evening before and the search that ensued. After a lack of success, but not without effort, the couple sought out additional resources.  A family member sent them my information, hence my presence.

I started to grid the hillside where Michael believed the ring had flown off.  He helped by moving debris and pruning back dormant bushes to make way for the coil of my machine.  We found a lot on the surface, first a razor blade, a bottle cap, aluminum cans, a fastener, a AA battery, but not the 14K white gold band that we sought. About 30 minutes or so into the hunt, success!!!  We had made the recovery!!!

The couple was surprised and excited to have this sentimental ring back and there were smiles all around. The clouds opened up and the rain fell from the sky, I like to think they were tears of joy for my first ring recovery of 2023!  Happy New Years!!!

No click bait story here!  I would never think about metal detecting for lost treasures on a restaurant’s front lawn until the day I received a call from Elizabeth. She tells me right off the bat frantically that her daughter got into a physical altercation with another high school student where this family heirloom gold coin in a bezel broke off from the necklace & disappeared into the thick grass lawn at a Carl’ jr.

When we met there I was concerned of getting trespassed on private property even though it’s along a public sidewalk,,I had to let Elizabeth know that we might not have much time before getting asked to leave. So we went over the story,Area & size of the gold coin so I knew what V.D.I #’s to discriminate with my metal detector. In less than one minute of fast scanning I received a signal that I was looking for and used just my fingers to comb through the grass with when out popped this Yellow beauty!  I could tell this was very sentimental & meant a lot to have it back in their family for generations to come.

Lost engagement ring found in Hillsborough NC

Got a call today in Hillsborough NC for a lost white gold engagement ring.

What a great way to start out the new year helping someone recover a lost ring.

  1. I received the call today and spoke with the gentleman about his wife’s ring she had lost at a local park today. He explained that she had taken the rings off and put them on a carabiner which she then attached to the strap on her back pack. When they were done they picked up their stuff and back pack and went to the car. When she got home she noticed the wedding band was still there but not her engagement ring. They went back to the park and looked then called me for help. I agreed to meet within the hour and started my search. After about an hour the ring was found and he was very happy to have the ring back. It always great to help people out and was a great way to start out the new year.

Lost – Lady’s Gold Wedding Band, Outer Banks (OBX), NC – FOUND!!

I was working on my truck and my wife was making pumpkin pies from scratch.  The last thing I expected was a lost ring call…but that’s exactly what happened.

I got the call shortly before noon.   A lady on the other end let me know that she had lost her gold wedding ring on a vacant lot about a one-hour drive away.  The lady lives near me in the Outer Banks so we decided to drive down to the site together.

As we drove, the conversation centered around the importance of the ring and how she lost it.  Her husband had passed away only a few days earlier.   They had been married 51 years.  She had been looking at a boat motor that he had owned.

While walking on the lot she got burrs on her sleeves.  She never felt the ring fall off but later that day she found it missing.  A friend offered to help her find it with a metal detector.  They searched for over an hour with no luck.

On the way to the ring site, we stopped  for a quick lunch.  She asked me if I could bless the food.  I asked God to bless our food and help us find the ring.  I had no idea how easy He would make it.

When we arrived, I did not pull in the one space drive but rather parked on the precariously sloped side of the road. I wanted to concentrate where they were parked previously.

As I got my Deus II out, the lady went over to the area she thought she may have lost it.  The sun came out shining brightly on the ring lying at her feet.  She screamed, “I found it!”  She was thrilled.

The ride back was filled with tears of gratitude and memories of her husband.  Mission accomplished!
