100 Year Old Family Heirloom Lost in the Ocean, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

On Saturday morning, I woke up to the following text message, “Looking for help finding 2 lost rings in N Myrtle beach, wondering if this number is still valid? Thx!” It was followed by a second text saying, “Good morning! I lost 2 rings during high tide at N Myrtle beach, quiet beach, one is a family heirloom, and I desperately need help finding them! Thank you!” I responded asking her to call me with my phone number. Kasey called about 30 minutes later and I started asking questions. What day and time she lost them, how she lost them, how deep was she, etc. Turns out she lost them 2 days prior while playing with her twin toddlers in about shin deep water. She also said she lost them about 6 p.m., which meant that she lost them about an hour after low tide. It was just coming up on high tide, but I told her I could be there in 10-15 minutes. I knew I had no chance of finding them right then but I wanted to get an idea of what I was up against. When I got to the beach I met Kasey, her husband Brian and their twin 3 ½ year old’s. Talking to Kasey she said one of the rings was a gold wedding band that belonged to her great grandfather, Leonard “Leo” Zuccoli, and the second ring was a silver ring that Brian had given her. Both Kasey and Brian had picked spots on the resort as a reference point to where the rings were lost, which was a huge help. I grabbed my PI detector and started a grid search perpendicular to the beach. There was no way I could get out as deep as I needed to. The tide was still coming in and the waves were big enough that if I did hit a target, there was no way I could stay on top of it and try and dig it out. After a short time, I told them I’d be back at 4 p.m. and work the outgoing tide.

The four hour wait seemed like forever, so I left a little early and got there about 3:30 p.m. I started another perpendicular grid search. I still had about 3 hours before low tide, so I took my time and worked the outgoing tide keeping my reference points on the resort. In about an hour and a half I had hit one target, which turned out to be a bottle cap. I noticed that Kasey, Brian and the kids had shown back up on the beach and were talking to a few ladies from New Jersey. All of a sudden I got a great signal, right in line with Kasey’s reference point. It took me 4 scoops of sand to get the target out of the hole. With the target in the scoop, I gently sifted out the sand in the waves and BOOM! I had a man’s gold wedding band in the scoop. Kasey had told me that the 100 year old family heirloom was “Leo’s” wedding band that had been passed down to her. She also shared that Leo was an immigrant and when he married Kasey’s great grandmother he made the wedding band. Kasey said that Leo had used some of his mother’s gold jewelry, melted it down and fashioned his own wedding band. Ok, I had one ring in my pocket and still needed to find a silver ring that Brian had given Kasey that was still hiding in the sand someplace. Kasey had told me that she lost both rings at the same time in the same spot. I rechecked the hole and got nothing, I searched around the hole expanding out on all sides and still nothing. I didn’t want Kasey to have to wait any longer to get Leo’s ring back. I marked the hole and made my way back to the beach, searching as I went. Kasey had her back to me and I wanted to do the WOW factor but wasn’t 100% positive I had the right gold wedding band. So, I called her over and her face lit up anticipating that I had found them. I asked her what Leo’s ring looked like and as she’s explaining it, I held the ring out and said “is this it”. Well, from her excitement there was no doubt I had the right ring. Tears started flowing and she was shaking like a leaf. We had a short celebration with her and Brian then I headed back out to find the second ring. After about 30 minutes I started noticing a lot of bait fish swimming around me, not a good thing to see when its dinner time for bigger fish. As I’m walking in about knee deep water swinging my detector, I hit a big fish with my coil. I got a quick glimpse of it as it swam off which was enough for me to decide to call it a night and go back in the morning.

I showed back up the next morning to hit the 6:30 a.m. low tide. After a little more than an hour of a thorough grid search, I wasn’t able to find her silver ring.

While I was doing my original search on Saturday afternoon, an unknown gentleman walked up to Kasey and Brian as they were watching me. They told him their story and he gave them the painted shell that’s in the picture, telling them it was a sign her rings would be found. I wanted to make sure I got a picture of the shell with Leo’s ring sitting on it.

Kasey and Brian – Thank you for calling and trusting me to help find your lost treasures. I’m sorry I couldn’t find your silver ring. Have a safe trip back home to Cleveland.

Lost Platinum Bridal Set Rings Found In Monroe Michigan

My Hit Turned Double Platinum!

When I got a text from Nicole saying her rings came off somewhere on their large property, we made plans to meet today. She was playing volleyball in the pool and that’s the last time she remembered having the rings on. She was also in the vicinity of the pool performing various chores. They purchased a metal detector and tried to find the rings but no luck. On site today I turned on my MXT metal detector and started to rhythmically search around the pool, lots of hiss and white noise from trash signals came thru on the headphones. Almost completing the loop around the pool I got a great sounding hit in the area where platinum would be on the MXT meter. Using my pinpointer I probed closer to the ground and got a great vibe. Reaching down thru the grass revealed this most beautiful platinum bridal set rings glistening up at me. I held it in the air and flashed a heavy metal sign with my other hand and Nicole raced over to me. Rock n’ Roll we Hi 5 as she reached down and lifted it from the grass and signaled heavy metal back at me while a huge smile was on her face! We both agreed the rings were heavy metal weight wise and even tho I made a double platinum hit with the metal detector, I told her my musical creations will take longer!

August 20th, 2021: Found and returned a cross and chain, Fairfax Station, VA

On a rainy afternoon I decided to practice detecting in my pool’s sand volleyball court. I enjoy the practice and I like helping by cleaning out the trash. I used my larger coil and removed the usual toy cars, odd pieces of metal, and even the occasional screws and nails from the nearby wooden fence. The lifeguards on duty told me someone lost a chain earlier that summer. They remembered a family raking through the sand to no avail. After cleaning out the larger targets, I went over the area with my sniper coil.

I didn’t find the chain, but I did find a small gold cross. I didn’t think it was particularly valuable and tossed it into my recovery bag. When I showed it to the lifeguards, one told me he thought the chain had a cross. Unfortunately, none of the staff on duty knew the contact information for the chain’ owner.

When I got home and looked at the cross more closely, I saw it was a lovely piece. I posted a photo of it on the local Nextdoor and Facebook groups. I posted flyers at the pool. A lifeguard named Cassie saw the flyer and called the owner, Marina, giving her my phone number. Marina texted me, and I called her immediately. Marina explained how much the cross means to them, as it was given to her daughter by Marina’s mother.

Thin Chain

I met Marina and her daughter at the pool to return her pendant, and to get details about how and where the chain was lost. Using this new information, I again searched the area. I marked off an area in the sand and began another search. Marina and her daughter watched for about 10 minutes, but had to leave for an appointment. Twenty minutes later, I picked up a faint signal and uncovered the thin chain. I texted Marina to let her know and gave the chain to the staff for her to pick-up. I’m so glad to have reunited this irreplaceable jewelry with the rightful owners.

Lost and Found 14k engagement ring, Green Bay, WI

I received a call and message from Somer the afternoon of Saturday, October 30th, 2020 (Halloween mind you) sharing she lost her engagement ring in the front yard of her residence. She explained to me the night before friends were over for a social gathering. Somer mentioned she took her ring off to show one of her friends. The friend gave it back while Somer was getting her mail from the mailbox during the evening hours. She decided to put the ring on the mail instead of back on her finger. Well, the ring fell off the mail into the grass (so she strongly believed and thought!) Somer and her fiancé, Nate, spend a better part of the day on their hands and knees looking for ring without success. So, I took my trusty CTX 3030 and began swinging my machine with a small coil since there was a lot of targets in the yard and very close together. My first target rang up “gold” and on the surface…Somer was excited thinking and believing it was her ring…I did too…wrong!!…just under the eyesight of the grass, up popped a nickel. Both Somer and I were thoroughly disappointed. I continued detecting and digging anything that was noting on my machine 2” or less knowing and expecting a surface find. While I was doing my part searching the grass meticulously and the path Somer took from the mailbox to the garage, Nate was meandering on the road near the mailbox, he saw the ring near a manhole cover…right out in the open. None of us have any idea how the ring found its way from the mailbox on the street and not on the grass. Though, I did not find the ring directly, I’d like to believe I shared in the success of rescuing. Ring found and put back on Somer’s hand. She was ecstatic and was a team effort to find. *** Frank and his family were at Seal Beach, CA. when he put his platinum wedding ring in the pocket of his beach chair. Last year he had lost the same ring in the surf for over a month and I was able to recover it. That time his wife called me giving me verbal directions. I knew it was a shot in the dark, but it turned out to be a successful search. She didn’t tell him and surprised him by hanging it where he normally put his ring while showering. 

Even though he had had the platinum wedding ring resized, Frank didn’t want to lose the ring in the water again. He put his ring in a pocket of his beach chair for safekeeping. This is such a common story, I knew we had a very good chance to find the ring as he contacted me within an hour of the loss. Our only possible problem could be, he did not realize the ring was missing until they got back to the car. ( a couple hundred yards across the sand). It’s my experience that rings in beach chair cup holders fall out when the chair is picked up or soon after.

This time I went out to the towel line and near a blue tent that Frank had given as a landmark. The tent was still on the beach. After a few grid lines, I got a few great signal in my earphones with a perfect platinum ID reading on my detector screen. A quick dig with my sand scoop revealed Frank’s Tiffany Platinum Wedding Ring.

I called him and he was able to meet me 20 minutes later. It was our first meeting and he told me the story about how his wife had surprised him after losing the ring in the surf last year. Every search is different and it’s always an adventure to search for items lost in so many different scenarios. In a lot of ways, it like gambling. I’ve got to believe the person has a general idea where the ring was lost. I do have a list of texts of people that have found their lost jewelry at a completely different location . It is just part of what we do as ring finders. Also many people do not understand what it takes to be a ring finder.  It’s a special challenge to find a known a known lost object, much different than wondering around a park or beach finding the odd valuable. 

I am retired having many things that keep me busy. I would rather be available to search for sentimental lost keepsakes than do anything else. It was a pleasure to meet Frank and return his wedding ring a second time.

Lost heirloom gold ring Cobourg Ontario

Received an emergency phone call for a lost ring this evening in Cobourg. I was actually at North Beach provincial park, getting ready to go home after a beautiful day where else, at the beach. Gillian called saying that her daughter Nicole had just lost her grand mother’s wedding ring (Gillian’s mom) while swimming at a beach in Cobourg. Unfortunately, Nicole’s grandma died at a very young age, when Gillian was only 5 years old. Understandably, both ladies were completely devastated by the time I arrived. After a quick introduction and getting facts about how the ring was lost, I quickly got setup and started detecting in the water as the sun was setting and darkness was soon coming. Within 10 minutes, the ring was found. Both Gillian and Nicole cried tears of relief and were extremely happy and relieved that they were reunited with their precious heirloom. Below is Nicole and I, whom insisted I be in the picture with her. Truly another special happy ending!!!

Lost Gold with Stunning Solitaire Diamond Ring at The Kahala Hotel Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Wendy at the Concierge Desk of The Kahala hotel. She asked, “Are you the guy who can find rings?” “That would be me!” I said. She asked if I could come down to the hotel and find a lost ring for two of their guests. I got a few details and headed down to the hotel which is only 7 minutes from my home. When I arrived the valet was waiting and got Wendy and she soon introduced me to Debbie & Albert from Fort Collins, Colorado. They were on their 40th Wedding Anniversary and while in the water swimming Debbie’s gorgeous 1.4 Carat Solitaire Diamond Gold ring slipped off and disappeared into the sand. One of the beach attendants searched for a few hours but the ring was well hidden. The ring was lost at low tide at Debbie’s chest height. A high tide was peaking so I was only able to hunt out to neck depth with the Nox. I originally heard waist deep but I thought I better give it a go. After covering the entire grid with no ring I told Debbie and Albert I’d return the next day at the 11:30 low tide. I decided to use scuba so I could have unlimited range no matter where the ring came off. I arrived at 11:30 and informed Albert I’d start the hunt as they were checking out of the hotel. I set my grid rope from shallow to deep and commenced the search. On the deep side the sand was so thin it puffed like smoke when I waved the Excalibur through it. I was hoping the ring would not be there as it would have been extremely difficult to see. Very sterile beach, which is nice, so after a small piece of can slaw and a swimsuit drain tab I got a sweet loud low tone on the Excalibur. Two waves of my hand and there popped out Debbie’s wonderful ring. I put it in my jar and stood up. I waved to Albert on the beach and yelled to him that I found the ring…”Hopefully Debbie’s!” They met me on the shore line and I handed the ring to Debbie who assured me it was the one. Albert & Debbie were so thankful and relieved they would be returning home this evening with “All” their belongings. Hugs, handshakes and pictures followed. Another fine day in Hawaii Nei! Lost Gold Wedding Band at Sheraton Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text from Victor who was on his Honeymoon from San Francisco, CA. His text said, “Hello saw your website. Need services.” I immediately called and found out while relaxing with his lovely bride Yuliana, on a float, while adjusting his grip his brand new Yellow Gold Wedding Band came off in chest deep water and disappeared. He attempted to find the ring with goggles but the water was too murky. The tide was already coming in and there was some medium surf so we decided to wait until the next day’s low tide at 11AM. When I arrived Victor met me at the Valet parking area and we parked and went down to the beach. Yuliana was waiting on the beach and the two of them explained the circumstances and the location of the drop. I attempted to cover both their areas but Yuliana insisted the ring was more to the West. After about an hour and a thorough search in Victor’s area I moved West quite a ways and worked back to the East. I’d only found four Corona Bottle caps and a pull tab. I heard several targets in the reef area but couldn’t dig or see them through my mask. Suddenly, a booming 13/14 on the Nox near the reef and on the second dig I saw a Gold Ring in the scoop. Victor had gone ashore but Yuliana was right next to me. I told her I had a Gold Ring in my scoop and asked if she could verify if it was Victor’s. Thanking God it was. Victor rushed out into the water when Yuliana yelled to him I found it. He immediately put the ring back on his finger and I told him to get out of the water as the surf was starting to pound us again. I told them both that 9 times out of 10 the lady is correct on the location and us guys just can’t get it right. I’m listening to you ladies from now on. A few hugs and fist bumps and of course a pic and Victor and Yulianna were obviously relieved. Honeymoon saved! Aloha to Victor and Yuliana!

Ocean City Md Lost and Found

I found this on the beach buried about 6 inches down. I did not know what it was at the time but after I got home I discovered it was a $7,000 Medtronic Insulin pump! I called the company and for medical reasons they could not give me the owners name but asked if they could give the owner mine. I said sure since my goal was to return it to the owner. Grandfather’s lost ring found

This was one of my toughest recoveries. I was approached on the beach about a lost ring. It was lost in deeper water and the tide was rising with big waves. I knew the only chance was to take a beating in the waves before it was lost forever. After loosing my hat, headphones a few times and a few other items the ring was recovered and given to a very happy man. Gis deceased grandfather may have had a hand in guiding me to this recovery.
