Lost Wedding Band Weekapaug Inn Beach, Westerly, Rhode Island… Found!

Disaster struck when Linda’s son lost his wedding band at the beach near the Weekapaug Inn, Westerly, Rhode Island. The ring was placed on a flipflop while the family enjoyed a sunny weekend at the beach until Linda’s son sprang to action when help with a medical emergency. During a hasty grab for his footwear, the wedding band was dropped into the sand. Due to the circumstances, there was no time to search the sand for a lost ring. Linda told the beach workers what happened and was provided with my contact information. We connected about a week later. The day after Linda contacted me, I planned my trip to search the area where the gold wedding band was lost. It’s not very often I do a search based on a phone explanation, but Linda had solid points of reference based on where they were sitting, so I thought it was worth a try. I arrived and mapped out the area based on our phone call. As I began metal detecting for gold, a couple tried to sit in the location where the son lost track of his gold band. This situation is pretty standard – crowds of people on a beautiful weekend can cause issues with accessing the spot. These beach-goers were kind enough to move over a couple of spaces and let me search for the lost gold band.

The first signal from my metal detector (XP Deus) found gold buried in the sand. The locals applauded, and we chatted briefly about my big find. After seeing the wedding date inscribed in the lost ring, I scurried back to my beach chair and made the Facetime call to share the good news with Linda. She reluctantly answered my call – if a number called me Facetime, and I didn’t recognize it, I would be weirded out too! We eventually got past the awkward discussion, and I broke the news. Linda was planning a trip back to the area the following weekend, so we met at Lilian’s in Niantic for the ring return.

Diamond Stud Earring Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC.

Just after 4:30 pm on Wednesday, I got a text message saying in part, “This is Vicki H. Can you please come and try to find my diamond earring. Thanks. We are on 6th Avenue. Just down from Maritime.” Instead of texting back and forth, I prefer to call so that’s what I did.  As her phone was ringing, I’m saying to myself, please let this be in the dry sand. When she answered, that was the first question I asked her, and her response was “Yes!”  Got her location and told her I’d be there in 10 minutes. I grabbed my Gold Bug 2 detector and headed out.

When I arrived on the beach, I met Vicki and her sisters Nan and Judy. They showed me the 10×10 ft area and said they had been looking for the earring for about 40 minutes before they called me. I tested Vicki’s other earring to ensure I could get a signal, there was very little metal to try and detect. After a successful test, I started a very slow walking grid line. I could tell that they had been looking for the earring and I was concerned that they either moved it or buried it deeper in the sand. I got a couple of bottle caps and some small pieces of foil but didn’t hit her earring on my first pass over the area. Vicki and her sisters reconfirmed the area and I started my second attempt. I got a faint bleep in the sand and hand shoveled the sand onto a plastic strainer I brought. I re-checked the area and the strainer with the detector and had the target in the strainer.  I started finger sifting the sand trying to feel the earring with no luck. As I stood up to detect the area again, I got a beautiful sparkle as the sun hit the diamond in the sand. I reached down and picked it up, and realized how easy it was to miss it with my fingers. I held it up in front of me and Nan noticed it first and then Vicki. There were big smiles and the “I can’t believe it” words from all three ladies.

Rob was sitting near the ocean and lost his wedding ring. The couple searched frantically trying to find it. They even went to Walmart and Best Buy trying to find a metal detector. They ended up ordering one through Amazon. His wife Lauren started searching the internet for help and came across Theringfinders.com! I got a text and I immediately called them and got more info on where the ring was lost and headed down. I received a phone call from a very distraught Lynn on Wednesday afternoon (August 4, 2021). Lynn told me that she had lost all 3 of her very special rings (2 white gold and 1 platinum) she received from her husband of 40 years, Peter, for their engagement and anniversaries.  I could hear how much these rings meant to her as she explained the details of the loss.  The day prior, Lynn was about to go to the store, so she went through her normal routine of putting on lotion and 3 rings on her left pinky.  Before Lynn left, she decided to water the plants and refill the olla’s outside of her home in Nashville, TN.  She noticed a few weeds and did a few other minor chores outside.  By the time she was done, an hour and a half had passed.  Finishing up the yard work, Lynn was reaching for a tomato she had picked and noticed that all 3 rings were gone!  She told me that she knew she had the rings on when she started and could show me exactly what she did and retrace every spot she was at.  Lynn and Peter had spent numerous hours looking and even tried searching with a metal detector.  I reassured Lynn and told her that if the rings were there, I would find them.

We arranged for a search on Friday morning (August 6, 2021).  After I arrived, Lynn re-enacted everything she had done on Tuesday in great detail.  I started a very thorough search, checking every square inch of the plants and yard where she was pulling out weeds.  I cleared the side of the house and front yard.  I began searching the front shrubs and planter on the front walkway.  I pulled out my Garrett “Carrot” pinpointer to search the plant.  When I parted the plant on the left side I couldn’t believe my eyes with what was staring back at me!  Wow…3 beautiful rings just lying there in the planter!!!

I was able to snap a few pictures.  Peter then stepped out to see how the search was going.  I told him that I had just found Lynn’s rings.  He could hardly believe it.  I quickly showed him the rings sitting in the planter.  I told him that we should surprise Lynn.  Peter went in the house and told her that I needed to ask her a question.  Lynn stepped outside and I asked her to re-confirm what she was doing in the front and if she watered that plant.  She showed me that she had filled up a wine bottle with water and flipped it down into a terracotta spike on the right side.  I asked if she worked on the left side where the rings were.  She caught that first glimpse and just lost it!  I’m not the best at surprise reveals, but this was one of the best reactions I’ve ever seen.  Tears of joy, happiness, and relief!  This is why we do what we do!  We determined that Lynn’s rings came off when she was reaching in to feel for the spike to replace the bottle.  They must’ve snagged on the vegetation, but she never felt them slip off.

This search only took about 20 minutes, but I stayed afterwards and chatted with Lynn for about 2 hours.  I really enjoyed this adventure, and it was an absolute pleasure meeting Lynn, Peter, and their dog, Jim!  I give all glory to God.  I have to say that it’s truly a blessing being a member of The Ring Finders.

Oceanside metal detector found lost gold diamond ring at the beach in San Diego

This wedding ring story started off over 20 years ago when Vlad & his wife got married. But it nearly ended when he was boogie boarding out in the surf and noticed his wedding ring slipped off. This so happened to be their 23rd anniversary day they were celebrating while vacationing here in Oceanside for a short time.

2 Mornings later, Vlad called me after finding my info online asking if I could help. After a few Q’s & concerns I was able to meet him there right away. He showed me the area in the surf but unfortunately there were 2 detectorist’s already there that he told about and the tide was coming up fast compromising the search zone as well. After an hour swinging in & out of the surf with no luck, I knew the best time to find his ring would be the -1.4 low tide at 4:00am the next morning.  So I assured Vlad & his wife that I would come back to continue the search for them as they had to head back home in a few hours.

Upon arrival to the scene of the lost ring before any other metal detecting guys showed up,, I was glad to see how far out the tide was already. The boogie boarding/swimming zone area days before was bone dry now. I knew if it was there, I would find it.

Over an hour later and 3 junk rings that never excites me, I received a signal on my metal detector that finally did…A holy one,,An unmistakable tone or beep.. Then out of the 6-10” deep hole came glistening a hefty 18k gold diamond ring.  Sure enough it was Vlad’s precious gold wedding ring found that morning 3 days later. I even mailed it back to him the same afternoon. You can only imagine how relieved they were and that I could help them find what they thought could be lost forever. The story of his ring can now live on.

July 25th, 2021: Found and returned an antique ring, Woodbridge, VA

 

Jonathan was having fun playing Frisbee fetch with his dog in the field behind his home. When he went back into the house, he realized the ring he inherited from his grandfather was missing. He immediately retraced his steps and visually searched the field. Then he obtained a metal detector and searched again, but there was too much EMF interference and too many targets. While researching how to find a ring, Jonathan read an old post on Redit recommending The Ring Finders. He contacted my friend Ray Jones (571-258-7217), but Ray knew he would be delayed, so he asked me to take over.

The next morning I made the 30 minute drive and met Jonathan. We walked the field and he showed me where he was throwing and walking. Jonathan was very helpful in defining the boundaries of activity and explaining how the ring might have come off. I set-up my search grid lines and started sweeping the area. After covering the field where Jonathan was throwing, I expanded to where he had picked-up his dogs waste. I heard the detectors signal saw the lovely ring at the same moment. There it was, sitting on a patch of dead grass. We had both walked over the spot, but never saw the ring. I marked the location and texted Jonathan “I found it!” As we walked over, he and I both remarked how easy it was to see…when you knew where to look!

Initially Barb thought her ring was somewhere in the house, but then started to consider that it may have been lost on the beach in Ocean City, NJ when it didn’t turn up. I met with Liz to go over where she thought the ring might be and started my search. Around an hour into the search, I dug the ring that was buried very deep in the sand.

About a month and a half ago I received a call from Abby. It seems she had lost her wedding ring on a farm where she grows flowers for market. She believed it happened when she was stung by a bee, began removing her clothes, and running through the flower patch. She and her husband had purchased a metal detector, and had searched for the ring to no avail. We arranged to meet the next day for a search.

When I got to the farm, I let Abby know I was there. She came right by, and took me out to the area she thought the loss most likely happened. When we got there, I was looking at 4 rows of flowers at least 200 feet long, with flowers at about 5 feet tall and having very stiff shafts; I knew I was in for a tough search. I would search the furrow with my coil, and then work around the base of the flowers with my pin pointer, working down each 200 foot row. I was VERY happy that there was very little metal in the ground which would have slowed me down considerably. After a couple of hours I had completed the search as best as I could with no ring. Abby then took me over to another area she been that day, I searched 3 more rows flowers at about 150 feet, no ring. We went and looked in another area, but no ring. We then talked and she said that the flowers would be cut in a month or so, and asked if I would be willing to come out again, and If it would be easier if they were cut down; I said I would be willing and it would be easier.

So this week Chris, Abby’s husband called to let me know the flowers had been cut, and wondered if I would want to come out and go over the areas again, so we arranged the next day to do the search. Chris and Abby met me and we went and searched 3 more new rows of flowers (I had not searched the last time) she had remembered going through the day she lost her ring; no ring. I then searched one of the previous areas finding some aluminum and pot metal; no ring. We then went over to the 200 foot rows where the bee had stung her, and searched very slow and deliberate. I found a good signal, dug in, and came up with a wad of tin foil. When Abby saw the shiny metal she came running over to only be disheartened finding out the find was tin foil. We were running out of possibilities. She showed me another spot near the flower rows, and then another, but no ring. She then asked if I would be willing to try one more spot she remembered being that day, and I told her she had me there, so she needed to take advantage of that, and YES I would search one more spot for her!

We went over to the other area which was a parking area near my second search of the day, and it was covered with a thick layer of wood chips. She gave me an estimated area to search, and I began a grid. Down, back, down, back, turn, and BAM, a real solid signal in the head phones. I put in the pin pointer, moving the chips around when it sounded, and I saw what looked like the edge of a coin with a smooth edge, nice and silvery. I reached in and picked out this beautiful ring. I tucked it in my palm, and looked up at Abby with a somewhat solemn expression, hands at my side, she started over probably thinking I was throwing in the towel for the search. When she got near I asked what her ring looked like, as I held out my open hand with her ring in it. Abby was immediately swarmed with a multitude of emotions all resulting from the joy she had at seeing her wedding ring again, after being without it for a couple of months. It was then Chris remembered there was a tractor in the area where the ring was found the day of the previous search, and yes I also remembered a tracked vehicle that was parked right on top of the ring the last time I was out there which did not allow us to search that area. We were fortunate it had been moved this time. Chris said they had the ring custom made in an old town in the UK where he was raised, and to tell it myself, the ring looked as if it had been made for Royalty; I might have been right about that, as she is his “queen”. What a wonderful day!

I was at home relaxing Sunday evening when I received a call from Jason. His wife had lost her engagement and wedding rings while getting the sand off her hands. They flew off into the soft sand and were immediately gone. They searched and searched, but were unable to find them. They were on vacation from Colorado, and would be leaving for home in a couple days, so they wanted to find them as soon as possible. Knowing that his beach is heavily detected, as well as cleaned by the County machines, I let Jason know that I was already leaving and would be there soon.

I got to the beach about 10:45, and set out to find Jason in the dark. It took a few minutes, but we connected, and then he walked me out to the area of the loss. When we approached I could see a lady standing out there by herself, it was his wife. She had not left the spot where the loss occurred which helped in trying for the recovery, knowing the location. They had drawn a large circle in which they believed contained the area where the rings should be. I began my grid in the middle of the circle worked out in the direction that she showed me that the rings should  have gone. I worked all of the circle, and then outside of the circle, no rings. I then began working from the middle towards the opposite direction finishing the circle, with no rings. I could detect a bit of discouragement as I looked over to them. I continued out of the circle when I got a strong double beep in the head phones, dug, and had her wedding band in the scoop. As I was raising the scoop I rescanned the hole, and just to the left of it got another strong double beep. I reached in and pulled out her ring, and she was so surprised to see it. I then said I will have the other ring in a second. I scooped, and there it was, her engagement ring. Needless to say, I knew Jason and his wife would sleep well that night; they were very happy, as you can see in her smile.
