*** SINA and her family had spent the day and evening at Corona Del Mar State Beach with is Newport Beah, CA. They played volleyball and had been at the Firepits till the beach closed at 10pm.

When they got ready to leave Sina’s watch was missing from the pocket in her jacket. They spent two hours searching the sand. Then Sina got my information from her friend that I had helped find a lost ring last year.

They called me just after midnight, apologizing for the late call but needing help. I live just a couple miles from the beach and told them would meet them at the volleyball courts in 20 minutes.

They believed that the watch was most likely at the volleyball court in the sand or possibly at the fire pit where she had been most the day. I set up my detector and began a grid search in the dark. About 15 minutes into the search, BOOM! a good signal and I carefully scooped up the watch.

They were completely surprised because after they saw how tedious the grid search process was, they knew it was a large area that could have taken hours to search. The best chance to find the watch in a timely manner,  was to start where the most action occurred. The truth is we were lucky to start at the volleyball court.

Happy family and especially Sina who had her watch back where it belongs.. I love being available to help people find their lost valuables.m

**** Matt called me from San Clemente State Beach. His wife Sasha had been holding his platinum wedding ring while he went swimming in the ocean. She was sitting on their beach blanket so she believed the ring was safe so she just slipped on one of her fingers.

Sometime later Sasha just made a quick gesture with her hand and the ring flew into the dry sand. She panicked a began to search the sand. Then Matt joined in on the search when he returned from his swim. A couple other people on the beach offered to help but the ring could not be found.

One of the beach maintenance personnel brought them a rake to use for the search. He also suggested that Matt try google searching TheRingFinders. Matt was able to get my contact information and called right away. We arranged for me to meet him on the beach an hour later.

I actually was there 15 minutes earlier. I know the beach well which made it easy to find where they were located. Matt told me how the ring was lost, pointing to a 20 square foot area where the ring should be. It was such a small spot and the sand was raked flat. It only took a few minutes to find his wedding ring. We like the easy finds ! They are easy because I can get to the location promptly. So many time people can’t find my service till they leave the area of the loss.

Sasha was totally relieved of her guilt for feeling responsible for losing the ring. Matt was proud that he took the suggestion to call a member of TheRingFinders. A very happy couple could return to their hotel this night for a peaceful sleep. The next morning they were flying home to Texas.

…. Maddy had been laying out on the beach at Newport Beach, CA. working in her summer tan. She took off her white gold pearl promise ring setting it on her towel while applying lotion. When she got ready to leave, she pick up the towel and walked about fifty feet before realizing the ring had fallen in the sand.

She called her friend to help her search the sand. They spent more than three hours methodically searching the sand with the help of several other people who were just passing by. Finally someone told her about my services. She got my contact information with a quick online search.

I met her on the beach which is only a few miles from where I live. We walked over to the 40ft.x 40ft. loss site. I chose to begin the grid search in the center. After beginning the third grid line I got a perfect signal. One quick shallow scoop revealed Maddy’s ring.

She was so grateful and happy to have this special ring back, saying I can’t believe we found it. She also was sorry that she had not called me sooner. She didn’t like how frustrating it was to hand search the sand for so many hours, but she commented she did get a little more tan time.

Maddy’s smile tells the whole story. This is what keeps me doing what I do..

*** Donnie called me while he was driving to a local sporting goods store to buy a metal detector. His son Cameron had lost his cell phone at Newport Beach the night before. The phone was important because it had a special photo of Cameron’s mother who had past away recently. The photo was inserted into a custom phone case and there were no duplicates.

I was just finishing a search less than a mile away from the location he told me the phone was lost. It was an Iphone that was still transmitting its location on the lost my phone app. I told him,  I could find the phone and could meet him within twenty minutes.

I finished up what I was doing and we both drove up to the site at the same time. We walked out on the beach and the phone showed up soon after I turned on my detector swinging for about twenty feet. They had spent almost two hours trying to find the Iphone by hand searching before calling for help. I saved Donnie the cost of buying a detector and probably a lot of frustration. The phone was actually in wet saltwater sand that most inexpensive hobby detectors can not handle. It was a pleasure to be available to help them.. They were so thankful, and I could tell this photo meant the world to the both of them.

Tiffany & Co. Gold La Pousette Stud Earring Back Lost in Backyard.. Tarzana, CA. .. Recovered

*** Laura lost her Tiffany & Co. 18k Gold  La Pousette earring back in the grass. The loss occurred when she decided to remove her diamond stud earrings so her new playful Labrador puppy wouldn’t accidentally pull the earring loose. She knew exactly where the loss happened but she could not visually see the small backing.

I got a call from her because she believed her only chance to find it would be a metal detector. I had a short discussion with her, explaining the complications of finding small gold items with hobby metal detectors. We agreed that I could meet her at her home that afternoon with my detectors that are set up for small gold items. We still wouldn’t know what the search conditions would be like till I arrived at the location. She would have a matching piece of the gold backing, so I could test my equipment for a signal in the soil conditions of her backyard.

Two of my detectors and two different pinpointers had decent signals. I did get a weak signal in the grass with both detectors, but couldn’t get either pinpointers to give me a signal. The small backing must have been on edge or possibly there was something making the signal from the pinpointer? After some frustration, I decided to carefully scratch through the grass catching a small glimmer of the white gold. Boom! Successful recovery.

I’ve never heard of a La Pousette earring backing so after I returned home researched them on line. They are the the most secure backings for expensive diamond stud earrings. As I understand, some of the most expensive are sold as set ( post and backing). Over the past years of finding jewelry for people, I’m learning a lot about jewelry.

I was looking forward to helping Laura find this small piece of gold. Also, knowing it was going to be a challenge. Laura was appreciative to see how difficult the search was. She was glad that she didn’t buy or rent a metal detector for a Do It Yourself Search.

… Karin and Cory were enjoying their vacation in Newport Beach, CA., their vacation was disrupted, when Karin lost her three ring wedding set. The three rings were soldiered together so all were thought to be lost forever. She didn’t realize the rings were missing until they returned to their hotel. Cory got into action by checking the car and Karin checked all the belongings they had taken to the beach. The only place the ring could be was at the beach. Cory knew it would be impossible to search the dry sand without some sort of sifter or maybe a metal detector.

Before attempting a search they went online to inquire about metal detectors. They happened onto TheRingFinder website, where they got my phone number. Cory talked to me and we met at the main Newport Beach near the pier in the dark. This is the most popular daytime beach area and very well maintained. In the summer season the beach king sand sifter is used here almost everyday. Also a very heavily detected beach in the summertime, day and night.

It’s nice to hear someone say they felt the ring come off and they are standing in the location, but this was not the case.  When I get those type calls I know the odds are good that we can recover the ring. Because they had returned to the hotel before knowing the ring was missing, I could assure them that I could eliminate the area , if they could get me close. If the ring was there,  my equipment can locate it. We met at the location as the tide was beginning to cover the dry sand. I tried to keep my grid lines in front of the incoming tide. After about a half hour I got a solid signal and a quick dig with my Xtreme sand scoop. I had the whole wedding ring set in the bottom of my scoop. White Gold Engagement Ring, Wedding Ring and anniversary rings all very sentimental impossible to replace originals. As we were running out of places to search we were all losing hope. Then the magic signal “Boom” successful recovery and tears of joy for Karin. Cory had that special, “I don’t believe it look”  It never gets old doing this service for people, I love it!1

George called me early in the morning asking for help to find his white gold wedding ring. He was sure it was lost while he was with his family at Lighthouse Bay Beach in Newport Beach, CA. His only concern was he had walked several different places while at the beach. He had not been in the water.

Rings slip off fingers at the beach many times because some types of sand have powder like texture that help make the fingers slippery. After asking George if he had been doing any activity that would have caused the ring to slip off, he said he had not. He did know the ring was missing before leaving the beach.

George said he could meet me at the location but it would take him about an hour to drive from his home in Corona, CA. I could be there much sooner so he gave me a good idea of where they had been sitting on the beach. This would be where I could start the process of eliminating potential areas that he could have lost the ring.

I was at the location shortly after our phone conversation. My first grid line was an attempt to see if I could visually recognize where George had searched the sand the night before. Many times it’s easy to see where people have dragged the fingers through the sand attempting to find a lost item. This time I couldn’t see anything indication of a search site. After about a 25 yard straight line grid, I reversed my direction. Then half way back to my starting point I got a nice signal. ” Boom”, digging the target revealed a white gold wedding band in the scoop.

I returned to my car to finish drinking my morning coffee while waiting for George to show up. When  we met he introduced himself and I ask him if he was the ” ARTISTE”.. he was immediately surprised because this was the inscription inside the ring. He knew I had found the ring.

After talking to him he told me, he was afraid the the ring could have been in many places that he had been that day. It was another great day on the beach helping George find his wedding ring.

*** Kristal had been married less than a month before losing her white gold diamond wedding ring. She lives in an apartment complex with a nice work out gymnasium near the pool. She walked the half block from her apartment to do a routine exercise session. She had not left her new wedding at her residence, so she wrapped it in her face mask putting in a hand bag. Her idea was protect it from being scratched.

After exercising she walked back to the apartment along a sidewalk. She had been holding the face mask in her hand but didn’t put it on. When she got back home the ring was missing.

One week of checking the grass along the sidewalk, reporting the loss to management, the gardeners, community online forum and posting flyers the ring was still missing.

Kristal called me saying that I was her last hope. We met and she walked me through where she had been when the ring disappeared. The first thing I told her was we are beginning the search now as we walk the path she took that evening. We got to a street crossing and she didn’t want to go any further. I asked that she show me the entire route to make sure I can clear the grassy hiding places. I had not set up to use my metal detector.

As we walked, we visually spotted the white gold diamond wedding ring on the surface of the grass. It had survived the lawnmower and many people that could have easily spotted it. Kristal was more than elated, a very happy and amazed young bride. She told me that she’d  never forget this moment.

This has happened several times where we spot the missing item on the initial walk through. What made this different was that it was lying there for over a week and she said, she had probably walked passed it 20 times. Also, it was a very public area with lots of foot traffic. Moral to the story, “Don’t give up just before the miracle happens

*** Dan and his wife live 60 miles from Dana Point, CA. Their favorite get a way place is Salt Creek Beach which is an Orange County, CA. Beach Park.

He called me asking for help to find his wife’s wedding ring. Most likely lost in the sand. He described it as a small size 3-1/2 white gold ring with small diamonds half way around the ring.

He said he could drive to the beach later that afternoon. I was ready to get on the road to begin the search a couple hours before he could meet me. We agreed that I could start the search earlier using a marked up Google map screen shot. At the beach, timing is number one priority. It’s also very important that someone can guide me to the general location. Most the time when people leave the area of the loss, it’s confusing to find the exact area.

As it worked out I had another call to take care of and I was still able to meet Dan at Salt Creek Beach later that afternoon. The beach goers we’re clearing out which makes it easier to properly grid search thoroughly. He showed me approximately where they had been. I started at the north end, working south. After an hour I was nearing the end of the site he gave me. He then said it could have been more to the south. That was a good move because I got a small white gold ring signal after three more passes. Amazing to see such a small ring in my scoop. These type rings can be missed by many detectors especially in the sand.

Dan was about losing hope but I got to see his big smile and excitement when he picked the ring out of the scoop. A great day at the beach.
