Have I mentioned lately that jewelry recoveries are my favorite part of my metal detecting obsession ??

I saw a Facebook post yesterday evening by someone saying his buddy had lost a wedding band “somewhere between the pool and down by the beach”. It sounded like a long shot but I’m always up for a challenge ! I went down this morning and spoke with Ryan, who had lost the ring, and he wasn’t exactly sure where it had slipped off his finger. He walked me down to the water at one of my favorite detecting spots where, coincidentally,  I had just spent about 2 hours detecting yesterday. Ryan explained that he had waded out about waste deep and the sat in the water to watch the sunset Friday night. He was VERY sure about where he had put his bag down and waded out, but that was about it.

I waded in with not a whole lot of confidence…… more like a wing and a prayer. Ok, LOTS of prayer. I then quickly realized I had not brought my waterproof headphones, I didn’t have my long pants on and there was jellyfish and mucky water, and I had even forgotten to ask if the ring was silver, gold, tungsten or stainless. ? Ryan was busy at work at a nearby breakfast buffet so I didn’t want to go bother him again.

Much to my suprise, and probably even more to Ryan’s, it wasn’t 30 min later when I came walking back in to the restaurant holding his beautiful ring.  I had to scoop 4 fishing weights, 14 pull tabs, 2 bottle caps and a penny first, but there was no mistaking the sweet sound of that shallow gold signal when I hit it about 10 or so yards to the right of where he thought he had been, and just at the edge of how deep I could go in without my waterproof headphones.

As always, the generous reward offered was declined. Doing what I love and seeing the look on Ryan’s face was reward enough !

Cell Phone and Wallet Found in the Street…Happily Returned to Owner in Harvest, Alabama!

On Wednesday afternoon (August 3rd, 2022), my husband, Lindell, and I were on our way to my doctor’s appointment.  Right after we turned out of our subdivision, we spotted a cell phone and wallet lying in the middle of the street.  I was able to safely pick up both items.  The iPhone was in good working condition.  The wallet was intact and contained everything you would imagine…driver’s license, debit card, credit cards, and numerous other important items.  There were a few cars driving by, so thankfully the items weren’t run over or picked up by the wrong person.

I didn’t see any contact or emergency contact info on the lock screen.  We had the gentleman’s, (Robert) address since the wallet contained his driver’s license.  Robert lived in the neighborhood right across the street from us.  We stopped by Robert’s house immediately after my appointment, but nobody was home.  We planned to go back later in the evening.

Right after we got home, we saw a few text messages coming through on Robert’s cell phone from the Verizon store in Madison, Alabama.  We Googled the phone number and were soon on the line with one of the store reps.  We told them that we found the cell phone and asked if the gentleman was there.  Robert was and they put him on the phone.  We introduced ourselves and let Robert know the good news that not only did we find his cell phone, but we also had his wallet.  Robert was so happy and relieved!!!  He was in the process of getting a new cell phone and putting a hold on his bank and credit cards.  Getting his wallet back would also save him the headache of a trip to the DMV for a new license, plus replacing all the other items in his wallet.  We gave Robert our address and he was on his way over.

Lindell and I handed Robert’s cell phone and wallet over to him after he arrived.  He was one happy guy!  Robert told us that he had set them on the back of his truck and went to get the mail.  When he got back to his truck, he had forgotten he put them there and drove off.

While this isn’t one of my typical stories, it was a successful return, nonetheless.  I’m always happy to help and thank God for putting Lindell and I in the right place at the right time!

Matt and his family spent some time on the beach in Atlantic City, NJ today. For safekeeping, he put his wedding band in his hat. As he was walking off the beach, he remembered that he didn’t put the ring back on. It was too late by that point. The ring was already lost in the sand. He gave me a call and I met him and his parents where they thought the ring could have dropped. After a few minutes of searching, I was able to recover the band!

Lost Ring at Navarre Beach – FOUND!!!

I opened up Facebook two nights ago and saw that Pensacola Ring Finders had been mentioned in a comment. Ellyce told Amanda that if there was any hope, I could find her ring. I thought to myself as I turned in for the night that if Amanda reached out to me, I really hoped that I could live up to Ellyce’s trust in me. Sure enough the next morning I saw I had a text from Amanda and I quickly gave her a call. She told me that their family was staying in Navarre and that her niece Kaylee had lost her engagement ring in the surf while posing for a picture and they were pretty distraught. I told her that I could come out after work in the afternoon and I would be glad to help. When I got there I also got to meet Felix, Kaylee’s other half and you could tell that he was really concerned about losing Kaylee’s ring. The two of them walked me down to the water and told me where they thought the ring was lost and where they thought it might be. I started canvassing the area above the top shelf of sand with no luck and then switched to the deeper area below the shelf. I tried east and west and north and south and even expanded the search area a bit but I got nothing. Everyone had focused on two blue chairs on the beach and when two people who had helped the day before came up and confirmed the same location I thought, “ okay, it’s got to be down there I just can’t hear it”. I decided to use a trick I have learned over the years and I got down where the sand was being curled back into the shelf by the waves. I turned my machine onto a different pinpoint mode and cranked up the sensitivity. I got right in front of the chairs and heard a very faint grunt that was so deep I couldn’t hear it any other way. I started taking out sand with my scoop and after several tries I looked down and there sat Kaylee’s beautiful engagement ring ?. That one surprised even me a little bit. ?. I went up and showed Kaylee and as she started to cry and celebrate with her family I looked up the beach and saw Felix coming back from a trip to the room. I saw it dawn on his face that I had found it judging by all the happy smiles and he took off on a dead sprint and picked me up and jumped up and down with me in the air in celebration. This was a great reminder of why I do this and I want to thank everyone for having the trust to recommend me every time they do. I know that Kaylee and Felix are very thankful as well!  Congrats y’all.

Lost Wedding Band – FOUND in Greensburg, PA area near Pittsburgh #10!

I received a call from Blaize that he lost his wedding band while he was working. Blaize has a lawn care business and was emptying a bagger when his ring fell off. Luckily it was in a private location as I was out of town and needed a few days to assist him.

Upon arrival Blaize showed me where he had lost the ring. He had rented a metal detector and had a co-worker help him search, but they could not locate it. As Blaize was completing the search contract I hurried to get started, he had a meeting and I did not want to hold him up. I fired up the old Garrett AT PRO with my large coil, ground balanced and BOOM first couple of swings it was right there. I quickly uncovered the ring from under the grass and turned around as Blaise was just walking down through the yard, a few moments more and I could have saved him the walk.

Blaise was very grateful and generous. While it was where he had dumped the clippings it was not where he thought it would be in the pile. This was one of my fastest if not the fastest recovery and it got me up to double digits (10) as well! It was a pleasure to meet Blaise and help him out…and by the way…the yard I was looking in looked great and he is a nice guy so look him up…Blaizin Bladez Lawn Care!

– Never found and gave back a ring that I did not receive a smile in return!

Surf City NJ (LBI) Lost Wedding Ring on the Beach recovered by Edward Trapper NJ Ring Finder August 2022

Got a call from Susan about her ring she dropped in the sand today in Surf City NJ. It had great sentimental value to her, as I could tell after just a short time on the phone. Lucky I was able to arrive promptly, as she had made reservations for later in the afternoon. Kudos to her and her husband for preparing the area it was lost, which made for a quick recovery. A very short time later they were on their way, with her cherished ring back on her finger. So many happy memories doing this.

Lost Wedding Ring in the Sand, Beach Haven NJ, LBI, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder August 2022

Got a call Saturday from Karen about her husband Victors ring, that was lost in the sand in Beach Haven on LBI. I met them at 5AM Sunday, but had no luck in locating the ring. Victor was positive the ring had fallen off his chair when he was applying sunblock, so I decided to go back Monday afternoon. After a short while, and with the help of lifeguards Grace, Maggie, and Kyle, the ring was located and returned to Victor.

Daniel lost his wedding band on the beach in Ocean City, NJ. The ring flew out of the cup holder when he flipped his chair over while getting ready to leave. He contacted me and I met up with him shortly after to start the search. After a few swings of the metal detector, the ring was found!

Lost Gold & Diamonds Wedding Ring on Lanikai Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text that said, “Hello Mr. Au-Franz my name is Louis. My wife Audrey lost her ring on Lanikai Beach today on our honeymoon. We were wondering if you were available to look for it? Thank you very much.” I immediately called Louie and he told me that him and his lovely wife Audrey were on their honeymoon from North Carolina. Audrey had gotten stung on her wedding ring finger by a Portuguese Man-O-War in the water. When she came ashore, she removed her wedding ring and put it on her pinky finger. Then her and Louie gathered up their beach gear and were headed back to Waikiki where they were staying. Suddenly, while walking down the beach access path Audrey realized her ring had fallen off her pinky. She wasn’t quite sure where but took note of their surroundings. Louis did a Google search for lost ring and he said my newspaper article from 2021 came up and along with “The Ring Finders” and that’s when he reached out with the text. I told Louis I didn’t want much time to go by as Lanikai is heavily detected. We agreed to meet first light at 5AM the next morning. They actually arrived at 4:30 and I’m sure that was from the anxiety of the lost wedding ring. It was pitch dark but I had my headlamp and we proceeded down the beach access path. Audrey showed me where she discovered her ring missing. I said lets start where you were packing up your belongings as that would be the most likely spot. When there Audrey drew a grid in the sand as I shown my headlamp so she could see where she was at. The grid was quite large but very flat and easy enough. Thankfully, Lanikai is very clean with very little trash. The targets actually surprise you. The first target was a pull top and then a part to a pen. Next I found a 5 Euro Cent and asked Louie if it was his as he is from the UK. It wasn’t! Next I got a nice “13” on the Nox and in one scoop I had the target. I peered into the scoop with my headlamp and saw a tiny shiny gold band with three little diamonds in the bottom. I yelled over to Audrey & Louie and said, “This probably isn’t your ring as it’s outside the grid. They came over and exclaimed, “Oh my gosh that’s it!” They both said “Thank You, for saving our honeymoon.” That’s why I love this hobby so! Aloha to Audrey & Louie!

Oceanside Ca, July 8th 2022..I was contacted by Ryan later that night about helping him find his precious Gold ring lost in the Surf which was roughly in waist-Chest deep in South Oceanside.

We met the very next morning during Low tide. Knowledge & experience was definitely on my side along with a little luck as I was able to retrieve this long lost wedding band in merely an hour of scanning around in the heavy moving current that was waist-knee deep surf at this location.

There is a big advantage I have in North County San Diego that especially helped him & me on this search. I grew up here! This particular “locals only” South O’ beach…I learned How to Surf,Fish,Swim plus Where the waves break and the gold settles during tides & storms.Not too mention,,Fortunately I can still walk to any Oceanside beach here from my front door;).
