Thursday November 17th Kevan was playing Rugby and lost his wedding ring, it was dark when he discovered it gone. The next day he returned with a friend and a metal detector, they had no luck locating the ring. His wife Juliane heard about me from a friend Christine (  https://theringfinders.com/blog/Don.Marshall/page/2/  )  I had recovered her husbands wedding ring 3 years before.

Juliane called me and I went to the park Friday afternoon, no luck. After getting more details I returned Saturday am and recovered the ring.

I so love my job.

Gorgeous platinum and diamond engagement ring lost in Richfield, MN – Now found!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

Colleen and her fiance had just finished raking, bagging and setting bagged leaves out in the road in front of their house when Colleen noticed that her platinum engagement ring was no longer on her finger; so they immediately put the bags of leaves in the garage and started searching.

They searched everywhere: the back yard where they bagged the leaves, the spot in the backyard where they temporarily set the bags, in front of the house where they placed the the bags to be picked up.  They even dumped out and searched two of the bags of leaves, but they still came up empty-handed.  So they purchased a metal detector to help in the search, but the metal detector was beeping at everything and didn’t have much depth.  That’s when they decided call for help.

I got the call the following day and made arrangements to come out and find the ring that evening.  Colleen was visibly upset and I knew we had to find it.  First I gridded the front yard, but came up with nothing.  The same thing happened with the back yard and out by the street.  That left just two places where the ring could still be found: inside the garage in one of the bags or in the leaves from one of the bags still spread out on the garage floor.

I first searched the leaves on the floor and the ring was not there.  So we decided to see if we could detect the ring in any of the bags full of leaves without dumping them out.  I got a good solid hit on the first bag we tried and told Colleen that this was probably her ring.  So I dumped the leaves out on the floor and found the solid signal: a large piece of foil!   This was very disheartening to us all.  What were the chances that a large piece of foil would be in that bag?

I continued to search the dumped out leaves from that same bag and very quickly got another solid signal.  I let Colleen and her fiance know that it could be the ring, but I really didn’t want to get their hopes up again only to find another piece of foil.  I uncovered the object in the leaves and exclaimed This sure looks nice and shiny to me!’.  And, sure enough, it was Colleen’s engagement ring!

Interesting to note: they had emptied and searched that same bag that we found the ring in.  They emptied it on the garage floor, searched the leaves and bagged them them back up.

We were all thrilled to see the ring back on Colleen’s finger!

Lost ring at Pacific Beach Found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Thursday evening, Paolo decided to go into the ocean, so, he removed his wedding ring and gave it to his wife Celine for safekeeping. Celine placed it on one of her fingers and waited on a berm in the dry sand for his return. As the sun was setting, they got up and left the beach. Once they reached their car, it was discovered the wedding ring was missing from Celine’s finger. They returned to the area where they had been, but, in the failing light and acres of sand, the search was fruitless. Fast forward to Tuesday when I received an e-mail from Celine who relayed the sad story and asked if I could help find it. We made arrangements to meet the next morning at 10am. Being several days later, I explained that many different fates for the ring could have occurred. It’s a popular beach for other detectorist to search, so, it could have already been found, the beach grooming machines usually go through the area early Monday morning, the high surf could have washed over the area and buried it, etc. I met Celine up on the boardwalk and we hiked down to the search area. She was a little uncertain of the exact area where she was sitting, so, I searched many spots one by one, eliminating them all. I then started running a grid from where she was sitting to the stairs where they exited the beach. After 4 passes and about an hour and a half, I finally got a likely sound and reading on my E-trac. One scoop and I pulled up Paolo’s ring. Celine was amazed that it was found, as, she figured it was a long shot. It was just a matter of time on this one. I was finding other good targets in the area, so, I knew nobody else had detected there. I just had to keep expanding the search area until I ran across it. They had been married for just a month, so, I was happy to get this ring back to them, so it can add another chapter in it’s story. Celine decided not to tell Paolo right away, but, instead to surprise him at dinner! I bet he will be!20161116_113327 20161116_113352

Wedding Ring Lost while throwing mulch and planting shrubs in Katy, Texas (found) by John Volek

I was contacted by Brian regarding his lost wedding ring in the front yard of his residence in Katy, Texas, Brian advised he had been landscaping his front yard, throwing down new mulch and plant new shrubs when he discovered his wedding ring missing from his finger. Brian said he spent a hour or better looking for his lost ring in the front yard, but was unsuccessful at finding it.

Arrangements were made to search for Brian’s lost ring the following day, and the point of contact would be his daughter Ashley. You can see from the smiles on Brian’s daughter and son, it was a good out-come.

Check out the video to see the recovery!

*The Things Left Behind* : News article highlighting Luke Schining The Ring Finder

The Things Left Behind

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH

Finding something on the Spokane Craigslist lost-and-found page is a crapshoot. One site poster wants his maroon bowling ball back, no questions asked. Another South Hill parent hopes their child’s Elsa doll can be returned as soon as possible. Most of the listings involve missing pets. But Luke Schlining is in the business of helping people find their expensive metal items. And as his Craigslist post says, he’ll take a stab at finding your missing engagement ring for free.

“I don’t want people to call me, to be honest,” Schlining says. “That means something important is lost.”

The metal detecting enthusiast has looked for metallic treasure since his teens, but about four years ago he stumbled upon the Ring Finders website, first started in Canada. Now the 30-year-old Spokane Valley resident is one of the American Ring Finders searching for people’s jewelry in their backyards or a snowbank, or off the side of a boat (he’s scuba certified).

“In water and beaches, it’s a needle in the haystack. You have to know what you’re doing,” he says, admitting that plenty of times his searches come up short.

But Schlining continues to volunteer his time and metal detector, because when it does work out, the reward is invaluable.

“I’m meeting tons of nice people through this,” he says. “It’s my way of giving back to the community.”

When it comes to your precious jewelry, his best advice is never to take off your rings. “That’s when people get into trouble, every time,” he says.

Gentlemen’s Wedding Band Lost While Cleaning Up Flower Planters @ Church-Hillsburgh, Ontario

  • from Brampton (Ontario, Canada)

Hillsburgh 02Hillsburgh 01

Had a Facebook message from a great Friend Tracy A from Hillsburgh, Ontario. Ivan G, a fellow member of the Church was cleaning up the flower boxes in the front of the Church. Ivan arrived home to notice his wedding band was missing. This was his replacement wedding band after loosing a diamond filled wedding band at a golf course over 5 years ago.

I arrived the next evening with Tracy. Tracy filled me in on the details. This was a 2′ wide by 20′ to 25′ length flower box. The areas below the flower planter boxes was 2′ by 6′ roughly. This was a job for my GARRETT ‘CARROT’ PIN POINTER. So “grinding’ with the pin pointer was the plan of action!

I decided to do a live recovery video on “Facebook Live”.  We checked the one side below the flower boxes….nothing. Moved over to the other side…I had to remove some of the “Erin Fall Fair” display. The metal chair the (stuffed) gentle was sitting on was in the way. Within 5 minutes I was very happy to find the massive SIZE 15 10k Platinum/Gold ring!! What a WHOOPER OF A RING!! Largest one for me to find!

Hillsburgh 03We went into speak to the Minister. We decided not to keep Ivan in suspense…so Tracy called and left a message that his wedding ring will be waiting for him at Sunday Church.

I had a returned Ivan’s call and offered to help locate the beloved lost Ring #1!! Ivan was very grateful and is very kind in offering a donation to the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run that I will be riding my snowmobile Feb 2017! This wonderful charity provide financial assistance to patients fighting this terrible disease!! “PAYING IT FORWARD”…rocks!! Here is a link to my “Metal Detecting for Charity” FB page <3 https://www.facebook.com/metaldetectingforcharity/

He said “I never knew there was such an organization of “The Ring Finders”!! I filled him in on the global directory of excellent Detectorists!!

I am looking forward to assisting in finding Ivan’s 1st lost wedding band at a Golf course in the near future!! Stay tuned….

Wedding Ring Returned To Family Vacationing In Corona Del Mar

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

Saturday October 22, 2016

I received a phone call from someone named Dan who was visiting on vacation from Utah with his family. They were in south Corona Del Mar, and lost his titanium ring in the sand. After a long conversation, I found out the ring was lost far up on the sand, away from the water. It was higher up than the next oncoming high tide, so I knew it was safe and would still be there in the morning. The location was secluded. I spoke to him and asked him to mark the area with some smaller logs that were nearby. I went down to meet him Sunday morning at about 9:00 am and took about a five minute walk from the main beach. He showed me the area where he thought he lost it, and lo and behold, I heard a long RING, and the ring was in the first target that I dug. He was  amazed at the speediness of the recovery of the ring and was very grateful. He called his wife and kids right away to inform them of the good news, thanked me, and was on his way. I had a very gratifying ride home and the happiness of finding a ring made the ride home a lot shorter.

Wedding Band Found By Metal Detecting In Santa Monica

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

Thursday October 20, 2016

Garrett called me from Santa Monica, who lost his large white gold wedding band when playing volleyball with a group of friends. I needed to wait for traffic to die down and went up to meet him, and arrived at the beach about 8:00 pm. I met him by the pier and walked with him to the volleyball courts. After speaking with him earlier in the day, I asked him to map out the general areas where the ring could’ve fell off. After about 15 minutes, my metal detector let out a loud RING. I took two scoops down, and found the ring right next to the volleyball court. He was thrilled to see the sentimental ring for him and his wife, who both shared the same dentist. He was a mutual friend who insisted on making the ring himself for the couple. Once again, it was a nice long drive back from the coast. It felt great to reunite the ring with its rightful owner.

Lost Ring Returned To Newlyweds In Santa Monica

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

Saturday October 8, 2016

Early in the afternoon I got a call from a person named Thane who found me on the RingFinders. He was swimming at El Matador beach when he lost his ring in the early afternoon. He asked  if  I could come out to help him. I was more than happy to, but in order to find the ring I had to wait for the next low tide, which was at 10:50 at night. I was looking forward to going home to taking a short nap before driving the 70 miles to meet him. On the way home, I received a phone call from Tate, who lost his platinum wedding band that day playing football with his friends and new bride. His wife was in tears on the phone, due to the fact that they got married two weeks earlier. So I left early and drove out to meet them in Santa Monica and got there around 8:15 at night. I met them at the pier and walked out to where they were earlier in the day. After I tried to figure out where the trajectory of the ring was, we narrowed it down to a small area of sand and within 10 minutes, his large platinum band was in my scoop, and  was returned back to the happy newlyweds.

After leaving Santa Monica, I had a short one hour delay, due to a flat tire and a long wait for AAA. I finally made my way up the coast to the Zuma Beach area where I met Thane. I met him along PCH and walked down the rocky path to the beach and in the dark, carefully observing photos he took earlier that day and tried to map where the ring could be. After the fourth target, I pulled up his ring out of the sand. He was ecstatic to be reunited with his lost ring and immediately called his wife with the good newsimg_0993img_0994-1
