Received an email from Tyng on Saturday requiring my assistance to locate his Gopro camera while on a three day retreat at camp Yowochas with his grade six students he was supervising,

Tyng was available to go on Sunday I agreed to assist him, Tyng picked me up at 7am we headed out 50 miles west of Edmonton to the camp we arrived the weather was not at all in our favor Rain and Cold Brrrrrrr.

We had to walk about ½ mile through the bush into an open field Tyng showed me the area that they were playing hide and seek in tall grass I must say the area that he thought the camera was lost created a huge challenge to swing my detector.

After about two hours out in the tall grass I was convinced that the camera was not in that area, Tyng was 110% sure that was the area he lost the camera, I told him lets back track to the last known location which was at the other end of the field where the grass was shorter they all sat down in a circle and talked about their time at the camp then they left the field.

Within 15 minutes I heard a loud scream Tyng found his go pro in the area I suggested he was ecstatic to have the camera back with all the pictures and videos he had taken while on the three day retreat with his students.

Another happy client thank you Tyng for entrusting me to find your GoPro also your generous reward.

Lost coin purse with checks returned – Boulder, Colorado

  • from Denver (Colorado, United States)
A couple of weeks ago Megan placed a coin purse that contained some donation checks for the dog foster care/adoption center she and her husband run onto a coffee table. Well, one of her foster dogs, Ellie, picked up the wallet and made her way to the back yard. Ellie has been known to bury items in the wood chips that line the entire yard. Megan tore apart the house searching for the purse and even searched the wood chips with no luck.

Megan called me Sunday morning and I was at their residence within an hour to begin the search. About 45 minutes into the search and just feet from the end of my search my MXT gave a nice signal and there was the coin purse hidden under a couple of inches of mulch. Megan was ecstatic to get the coin purse back.

Recovery made August 21st, 2016

Diamond stud earring returned, Centennial, Colorado

  • from Denver (Colorado, United States)

Gina loaned her diamond stud earrings to her daughter, Azariah, as any good mother does. Azariah was at a park when she was jumped by another girl. During the fight that ensued a couple sets of earrings, along with a silver pendent were lost. Gina took her daughter to the hospital to care for her injuries, luckily there were no major ones sustained. After Azeturn’s return home the search for the missing jewelry began. Gina borrowed a metal detector from a friend and found the silver pendant, she then tested one of the remaining earrings and could not get a reading on it. Next she rented a prospecting detector and found a couple of earrings, earring backs and portions of the chain that the pendant was on. One of her 14 kt white gold diamond stud earrings was still missing. Over the next couple of weeks Gina spent MANY hours out searching the woodchip lot looking for that one earring with no luck. Azariah found my profile on The Ring Finders and called me. I was out at the lot the following night with four detectors in hand. The first couple of machines that I tried could not get a signal from the one remaining earring, one other received a signal though it was mixed with ground noise and tough to discern. My last machine, the Teknitics T2, would consistently sound off of the earring. I began my search picking up tiny foil, a BB and a couple other pieces of trash. Shortly after my search started Gina had to go to a parent-teacher conference so she left me to search. Not long after she left I received a faint but repeatable signal. Under an inch or two of wood chips sat the one missing earring.

A couple of days later we met and I gave her that missing earring. She was ecstatic.

Crystal found my contact information on line. She told me that she had put her two rings on a towel that was on her beach chair. Later, when she went to move her chair under the shaded canopy, she grabbed the towel throwing it in a small tent they had set up for her young child. Crystal was holding her young daughter in her arms when she move the chair with the free hand.
It was just a few minutes after moving into the shade that she realized what she had done. Everybody jumped in to help and they were able to find the double wedding band, but couldn’t find the larger diamond engagement ring.

I was confident this would be an easy search judging by past searches.. Not so easy, I was begining to lose hope that the ring was still in the area. It was a white gold with large solitaire surrounded by quite a few diamonds, possibly it was buried deep by the other people searching by hand. I’ve also read that these solitaire rings may be lying in a vertical position, heavy end down. Three or four passes changing my settings on my detector to optimize detection depth with no success. I could see the look! from others that were watching me. ” Does this guy know what he’s doing look?”
As last resort we moved 35 feet away from where the first ring was found to check under the shaded canopy. Three or four swings inside, I got a strong solid hit, a nice low tone (12-03 TID).
A beautiful white gold solitaire diamond ring in my sand scoop.
We think that the ring may have dropped on her daughter or stayed on the chair till she brought everything inside the canopy. Another example of why I should not assume that both rings fell at the same time in the same place.
It was a challenging search that had me wondering if my equipment was working properly. My next move would have been to get one of my other backup detectors. Pulse induction detectors that get all metals with a little more depth.
Everybody seemed to be impressed that the ring was found and they said they would tell their friends about TheRingFinders.com.

Family Heirloom Ruby Ring Lost, Found, and Returned on Pass A Grille Beach, Florida

Austin and his mother were visiting his brother in Florida from Flint, Michigan. They all went to Pass A Grille and set up a canopy near the water for a fun day at the beach. Shortly after arriving they went into the water and as they enjoyed the warm gulf water temperature, Austin sat down in about neck deep water. As he was sitting he felt a shell in the sand, picked it up and threw it toward the shore. As the shell headed to shore so did Austin’s precious ruby ring. They all searched for hours but with no luck.

The ring was his grandfathers which was given to his grandfather by his grandfathers mother when he had turned 18. His grandfather wore the ring everyday of his life until he chipped the original ruby. At that time, one of his daughters (Austin’s Aunt) had the ruby replaced for him and he put the ring back on and wore it for the rest of his life. The Family is not sure what the significance of the ring was but they do know that both of his parents had worn ruby rings.

For Austin’s 18th birthday just last July his grandmother gave him the ring as a birthday present. Not only is the ring significant in his families history it is also Austin’s birthstone. The ring is approximately 61 years old.

About 8 days after he lost it, Austin found SRARC Ring Finders and contacted Tom Jones. A hunt date was established and Paul Hill, Ed Osmar, Dimitur Alipiev, Mark Sillence, Howard Metts, Jeffery Miller, Mike Miller, and Bill Gallant showed up for the hunt. 13 minutes later Bill held up the ring and said “I think I found it”. Awesome job Bill and a big “Thank You” to all who helped on this recovery. SRARC is very happy to have been a part in returning this important piece of history to Austin’s family.

Lost ring in Bedford New Hampshire

  • from Bremerton (Washington, United States)

Hey Guys and Gals!

I got a phone call from a young man in Bedford New Hampshire who went on to tell me about how his wife who lost her platinum wedding ring while doing cartwheels in their yard. Of course I had to laugh a little and then I thought about this old man (myself) doing the same thing while hanging out with his daughter.

I arrived at their home about an hour after dark and began my search. After grid searching the area where all the fun had taken place I determined I was loosing my touch or the ring was somewhere else. A second round of questioning determined mom and son had played all over the yard.  Deciding to take a quick swing around the pool area I quickly tripped over something in the grass (LOL) Not really, but if I had stepped on this ring I would have felt it. The pictures of the ring suck and for future reference I am getting a better camera. I was waiting on new photo’s, but wanted to go ahead and get this posted. Very handsome couple and was glad to meet them. Also feel fortunate to be a member of the ring finders where you can bring a smile to a sad face.

Lost Engagement Ring Recovered, Hamilton, Ohio

  • from Cincinnati (Ohio, United States)

I received a text message early one Sunday morning explaining how a young lady had lost her engagement ring after attending an outdoor concert and festival and asking if I would help in the search. When we spoke, the young lady told me she and a group of friends had looked for her ring until early in the morning using their cell phone flash lights but that they had been unable to find it.

I had a previous commitment early on Sunday and promised to call her as soon as I was free in the afternoon. When I called she told me that she and a friend with a metal detector had already searched for over six hours and been unable to find her ring. She was concerned that perhaps another festival attendee might have found her ring the night before and that it might no longer even be there.

I offered to search anyway if she thought it worthwhile and she said yes it was. We met at about 3:00 pm and she recounted her evening while walking me along the path she remembered taking to her vehicle which was where she thought she had lost her ring. Bottom line, she was uncertain and I was thinking we could be in for a long search of easily three or more hours to cover my grid area which I estimated as roughly half a football field and which was littered and obviously traversed by many festival goers.

I started my search in a corner of my grid area that the young lady did not really think was the correct area, but she had mentioned to me during our walk through that her fiance thought it was a good possibility. I decided to enlarge my grid by an additional fifteen yards just before starting my search and not ten minutes into my search, my detector returned a very strong signal. I could not believe our luck as I saw her ring lying right there in the grass under my coil.

As I walked toward her car, giving her a thumbs up, she was speaking with her fiance on her cell phone and I don’t think she believed it at first, but then she noticed her ring on my finger and she was all smiles, crying happily and excitedly updating her fiance.

I had already had a great morning with friends and recovering this young lady’s engagement ring and seeing her smile made my day even better. I still cannot believe how fortunate we were and what a GREAT day it turned out to be for both of us!

This time of year I am very busy at the beaches looking for lost items for clients. But I recently received an email from Brandon stating his wife lost a ring in their back yard. He was local so it wouldn’t be the normal hour plus ride to the shore.

I started asking the normal questions: What is the ring made of? Is there metal objects in the yard? How did it happen? And so on. I got answers to all of the questions except how did it happen. So I asked again. He said I’ll tell you the real story, not the one we are telling family and friends. I said stop, let me guess, there was an argument and the ring was tossed.

There was a pause, and he said how did you know? I said that it happens a lot more than you think. We made arrangements for me to come out on the weekend. He emailed me throughout the week asking how confidant I was that I could find it. I kept reassuring him that the odds were really good.

We met on a Saturday morning. He showed me the area that he thought that the ring was in. Boy the yard was big. I had him recreate the incident. He stated that the ring wasn’t here, he had bought a $50 metal detector and all it did was beep constantly. He took it back and bought a $150 metal detector. It did the same thing. He then spent several hours of everyday for a week on his hands and knees looking through the grass.

I went to my truck to get my gear ready for the search. Good thing I bring more than 1 detector with me. My CTX3030 with a 10 inch coil was my choice to start. Well I left the battery at home in the charger. OK a quick call to my wife to see if she could bring the battery out. She couldn’t for about 30-60 minutes. OK I guess I will be using my Minelab Explorer with a 3 inch coil. Wow this will make it much more difficult with the size of the area that will need to be covered.

I started the search. I now see why both of the detectors that Brandon bought were constantly beeping, a lot of buried iron. He let me scan over the wedding band made of the same material. I now had the correct tone & number id’s to help weed through all of the iron. I worked a grid pattern.

As I worked the grid pattern I came to an area that he was pulling grass and weeds. He placed them into a large plastic bag. I moved the bag and got the tone I was listening for. I looked under the grass and there was the missing ring, partially submerged into the dirt. It looks like it might have been stepped on to push it into the ground like that. It took less than 30 minutes to make the find.

I was amazed that I found it with my baby coil in such a large area. I quickly called my wife to tell her that I didn’t need the battery. She hadn’t left yet.

Brandon was totally amazed that I found it. He said that he concentrated his search in that area and missed it multiple times. The look on his face was priceless. He is totally out of the dog house now.

I can’t stress it enough. If you lose something don’t waste your time and money buying or renting a metal detector. It takes years to learn how to properly use them. Call a professional.

Wedding Ring Lost in Waves Throwing a Frizbee .. Santa Monica, CA. . Recovered Next Day

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

This call began with a text message from Kirby: Hi. Found your # on ringfinders. My wife lost her wedding band in the water yesterday at santa monica beach. Just south of lifeguard 25. She was about 25 yard in from high tide line when it happened. It is very distinctive, simple but custom symbols. Are you available to hunt for it?

I text him back telling him I would be there at start of the 2pm low tide to search in the water. When I arrived they were on the beach in the location. They explained that Rita felt the ring come off while throwing a Frizbee in knee deep water the day before. They have matching white gold wedding bands, so Kirby showed me his. He also had bearings on the shore that he remembered turned out to make this a successful recovery.
They had basically resolved that the ring was lost forever, but I assured them we still had a very good chance to find it. The sand conditions looked perfect. It only took 20 to 30 minutes to find this sentimental wedding band. The second target I dug in knee deep water was Rita’s white gold ring. I walked back towards the two of them sitting on the beach holding my hands up with the ring. Then I tossed it to Kirby as he walked towards me. For the next half hour they kept telling me how they couldn’t believe we found the ring.. They are from Vancouver, BC. enjoying a vacation at Santa Monica Beach. Their vacation was not starting out very well the first day. We were able to change that because they were able to find TheRingFinders.com and they had been able to get me in the general location. It was a pleasure to meet this beautiful couple and we had an awesome day. I love this service, I’ll keep doing this as long as I am able to.
