Some jewelry carries far more than monetary value. For Ava, her beautiful 14 karat yellow gold family crest ring represented family tradition, love, and legacy. Less than a year earlier, Ava’s father had gifted her the special ring as part of a meaningful family custom in which each child receives their own family crest ring to treasure for generations.

What began as a relaxing afternoon enjoying the sunshine outside her home in Alexandria quickly turned into a heartbreaking ordeal when the cherished heirloom suddenly disappeared.

A Relaxing Afternoon Turns Stressful

It was a beautiful day, and Ava decided to spend some time outside laying on the front lawn of her Alexandria home soaking up the sun. Along with her towel and personal items, she brought a portable speaker system styled like a classic 1980s boombox to enjoy some music while relaxing outdoors.

Before applying sunscreen, Ava carefully removed her beloved 14K yellow gold family crest ring and placed it on top of the boombox speaker for safekeeping. Since sunscreen and jewelry rarely mix well, it seemed like the perfect temporary spot.

At some point, Ava gathered her belongings and headed back toward the house. But the moment she opened the front door, panic immediately set in. Her ring was no longer sitting on top of the portable speaker.

Knowing the ring had to be somewhere on the lawn, Ava rushed back outside and began searching frantically. She retraced every step she had taken, hoping to catch a glimpse of the treasured piece of jewelry hidden somewhere in the grass. Unfortunately, despite her determination, the ring could not be found.

Hours of Searching Led to Frustration

As the hours passed, additional family members joined the search effort. Ava’s parents, sister, and future brother-in-law all carefully combed through the yard looking for the missing ring. Everyone understood just how sentimental and irreplaceable the family crest ring truly was.

Despite countless hours searching the lawn, the ring remained missing.
Eventually, Ava’s mother, Mercedes, decided to search online for professional help. She hoped there might be someone experienced with metal detecting who could assist in recovering the lost heirloom.

That search led her to THE RING FINDERS, the elite international directory of metal detectorists dedicated to helping people recover lost valuables. Through the directory, Mercedes found me — Brian Rudolph, THE RING HERO — owner of METAL DETECTING ADVENTURES INC.
After speaking with Mercedes and gathering all the details surrounding the loss, we arranged for me to visit the property the very next day to conduct a professional recovery search.

The Search Begins

Once I arrived at the Alexandria home, I immediately began asking Ava detailed questions about the events leading up to the loss. I wanted to understand exactly where she had been laying in the yard, where the boombox had been positioned, and the path she walked back toward the front door before noticing the ring was missing.

These small details often make all the difference in a successful recovery.
After carefully listening and studying the search area, I began metal detecting the front lawn.

Within just five minutes, I heard the exact signal I was hoping for through my detector headphones while simultaneously seeing a promising target reading appear on my control panel.I knew there was a very good chance this was the ring.

The Exciting Recovery

I immediately knelt down and used my handheld pinpointer to narrow the target location beneath the grass. Within moments, there it was — Ava’s beautiful 14 karat yellow gold family crest ring resting safely below the surface of the lawn!

I could not have been happier for Ava and her family. When everyone came outside, I surprised them with one of my signature “Ring Hero” reveals, which gave the entire family a huge smile and brought instant relief after all the stress and disappointment they had experienced.

Seeing Ava hold her treasured family crest ring once again was incredibly rewarding. Her parents were amazed at how quickly the recovery happened after multiple family members had spent hours searching unsuccessfully on their own.

Preserving a Future Family Heirloom

What made this recovery especially meaningful was understanding the importance of the ring beyond its gold value. This was not simply a piece of jewelry — it was part of a cherished family tradition and a future heirloom that one day may be passed down to future generations.

Being able to help preserve something so sentimental is one of the greatest joys of what I do as THE RING HERO.
Every recovery has a story, but this one beautifully highlighted how quickly a treasured possession can disappear and how important it can be to seek professional help when traditional searching methods fail.

Thankfully, Ava’s story had the happiest possible ending.

There are lost rings… and then there are rings like Julie’s.

This wasn’t just a piece of jewelry. It was a living story—woven together from three generations of love, sacrifice, and legacy. When Julie called me, her voice shaking and overcome with emotion, I immediately understood: this wasn’t simply about finding a lost item. It was about restoring something deeply personal, something irreplaceable.

A Ring Unlike Any Other

Julie’s engagement ring was a masterpiece of meaning and craftsmanship. Her fiancé Nick had secretly spent weeks designing it—carefully blending family history into one breathtaking symbol of their future together.

The ring featured: Diamonds from Julie’s great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother, yellow gold from her mother’s original wedding band, a diamond added by Nick to balance the design, a stunning Montana sapphire as the centerpiece, a very inch of that ring carried a story. Every stone held a memory.

How It Was Lost

While visiting family in Hanover, Pennsylvania, Julie had taken off her ring the night before and placed it in her pants pocket for safekeeping. The next day, forgetting it was there, she put the pants back on, added her phone to the same pocket, and headed out to mow roughly two acres of property using a tractor mower.
Somewhere during that routine task… the unthinkable happened.
When Julie returned to the house, the ring was gone.

The Search Begins

Julie and her family immediately sprang into action. They even purchased a metal detector and searched the property themselves. Despite their efforts, the ring remained missing.

Days passed. The heartbreak deepened. The guilt weighed heavily on Julie. That’s when she found me through The Ring Finders directory and reached out, hoping—just hoping—that I might be able to help.

Arriving on the Scene

A few days later, I made the hour-and-fifteen-minute drive north to Hanover. The countryside was absolutely beautiful—but I knew we had a serious challenge ahead. Julie walked me through three key areas: Where she pulled out her phone near the woods, where she shifted on the tractor to avoid tree branches, where the mower belt broke and she dismounted. There was also a real concern: the ring could have been run over by another mower—or worse, flung into a nearby creek.

Faith Before the Search

Before turning on my detector, I asked Julie if we could pause for a moment of prayer. We held hands and asked the Lord for guidance—that if the ring was on the property, I would be led directly to it. Moments like that matter. They center the mission.

Hours of Uncertainty

I began methodically grid-searching each section. First area—nothing but scrap metal. Second area—still nothing. By this point, the emotional weight was building. Julie was trying to stay hopeful, but I could see the concern in her eyes. I reminded her: sometimes the find comes at the very end.

The Breakthrough

Finally, I moved to the third area—the spot where she had stepped off the tractor during the belt repair. Just about six feet from where Julie believed she had dismounted…BEEP. A strong, clean signal. The kind you don’t ignore. I dropped to my knees, zeroed in with my pinpointer… and there it was. A flash of brilliance beneath the surface. Julie’s ring.

A Moment of Pure Joy

I lifted it from the ground and held it up. Julie saw it—and instantly broke down in tears of joy. I walked toward her, and she met me halfway. We embraced, celebrating the return of something that truly could never be replaced.

Soon, her mother and stepfather joined us, drawn by the excitement (and admittedly, my loud celebratory shout!). The joy was contagious. Hugs, laughter, gratitude—it filled the entire property. Julie called Nick, who was back in Michigan, and he thanked me personally. You could hear the relief in his voice.

A Perfect Ending

Before I left, we all gathered together once more—hand in hand—and thanked the Lord for answering our prayer. That moment… was just as powerful as finding the ring itself.

As I drove away, I glanced back at those two acres of land and felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Not just for the successful recovery—but for being part of something so meaningful. Because sometimes, it’s not just about what’s lost…
It’s about what’s restored.

Lost Gold Necklace Recovered Minnesota Metal Detecting

  • from Twin Cities Metro (Minnesota, United States)

Sam gave me a call and was wondering if theringfinders.com could help out when losing a gold necklace in 10 – 20 feet deep water, with a bunch of weeds and muck at the bottom. I said of course, we always give it our best shot no matter what. As most detectorists know, necklaces are very hard to find with a metal detector. Necklaces are thin and for some reason, they don’t register at all or are very faint. Sam knew the area he lost it in and he put me in a 25′ X 25′ area with a drop off from 8′ to 20′ deep. I made a plan to clean every piece of metal out of that area and then try to find the gold chain. It took me roughly one and half hours to clean it out and then I started my search. With no hits on the detector for 20 minutes, I received a faint hit. I went back over the area with my Excalibur detector and figured it was not just a false hit “we get a lot of false hits metal detecting.” I started to push my coil further down into the muck and zeroed in on the hit. After a little digging I felt something different in my hand than muck and weeds, I waved my hand in front of my detector and heard that nice deep tone of gold.  Another success story, which I love to write!!!!

Congrats on the necklace Sam, I know how important it is to you.

Take Care –

New Haven CT Channel 8 news meeting CT’s own Treasure Hunter August 2025

  • from Old Saybrook (Connecticut, United States)

I was asked to be interviewed by Ann Nyberg a celebrated and award-winning anchorperson for Channel 8 news in CT. We discussed my start in detecting 37 years ago, my membership in three CT clubs Nutmeg Treasure Hunters, Yankee Territory Coin shooters, and Southern New England Relic Hunters and most recently my membership in the @theringfinders,com organization. Ann asked my favorite find over the years and there’s been so many that it was hard to choose just one. But I chose a very meaningful one for me that was about a young boy losing his heirloom Grandfathers ring in the ocean and giving up hope until his mother contacted me and after three tries of narrowing the location where he had been playing catch in the ocean and using his hand drawn treasure map , I was able to locate the ring. His mother cooked a meal for our club, and we awarded the ring back that night and she honored me with a beautiful St Anthony medal.

Westerly CT Gold Nugget ring returned from the ocean at Misquamicut Beach July 2025

  • from Old Saybrook (Connecticut, United States)

A day on summer vacation for Rachel and Arthur a couple visiting from New Hampshire turned into chaos after he lost his special ring playing football with his nephew in the surf at Misquamicut beach. Arthur had earlier removed his ring so not to lose it during his football throwing activities with his nephew. But just before leaving , he put the ring back on his hand and made a few more passes. As accidents happen after one pass it ended up with the ring flying off his finger. Rachel had posted on social media and then heard about my recent recovery’s in the area from others on social media and contacted me to help. It was late in the day and getting dark. I asked my friend Gary Bonin a ring finder in Westerly to take a quick look before dark. He did not have good luck  because he could not isolate the optimal location to search in the dark. I responded the next morning at 6am and after asking Rachel several questions during a facetime, we narrowed down the location down to where the ring might have flown off his finger. After gridding the area I had a great signal that was  about 8 inches down and on the waters edge. Miraculously it turned out to be this amazing gold nugget ring. It was a sentimental gift from his mother when he graduated high school. The good news was their summer vacation ended up on a positive note and restored faith in humanity that prayer and people will help you. Rachel shared to importance of prayer with their children and I gave them a St Anthony medal to remember this vacation and the miracle that took place.

Lost Gold Ring Recovered Prior Lake Minnesota

  • from Twin Cities Metro (Minnesota, United States)

Elizabeth and her daughter were at a friends lake house, relaxing and hanging out on the dock. Her daughter jumped into the water and asked if Mom would join her. After a little back and forth, she decide to jump in for a dip. Elizabeth took her gold ring off for safe keeping, but she fumbled it a bit and it dropped straight through the deck boards into 9 feet of water. This ring was special as she melted down a couple of other rings to make one special ring with her daughters birth stone. They tried their best to recover it, though it was just too deep and soon it disappeared into the sandy bottom. Elizabeth searched the internet for help and came across theringfinders.com and contacted me. We discussed the scenario of what happened and set up a day & time for the search.  Liz’s daughter pointed out exactly where it should be, and she was right on the spot! Recovered in about 15 seconds. Thanks for your help.

Happy I could help out, it was nice meeting both of you – Take care.

LOST A RING?

DON’T WAIT

CALL JOHN

215-850-0188

I had just finished an engagement ring recovery in Ocean City, NJ. As I was packing up my gear, the phone rang. It was Annie, who had posted on Facebook that her daughter, Nia, had lost a sentimental gold cross on the beach while watching the sunrise. I told Jackie that I was only ten minutes away and offered to give it a try. Nia wasn’t sure exactly where the cross had come off, so I knew it might be a longshot. Undeterred, I headed to their location.

When I arrived, Nia gave me more details about where she had been sitting. With that information in mind, I started the search from the beach entrance and worked my way down towards the water. After crossing the entrance mat, I got a nice tone on my metal detector! I dug into the sand, and my heart raced as I saw the glint of gold. It was the cross! I called out to Nia, and as I handed her the cross, I could see the joy and relief in her eyes. She was so happy to have her beloved cross back. It was a great day in Ocean City, NJ, and I was thrilled to have made it a little brighter for Nia and her mom.
