2 Lost Rings – Fort Walton Beach, FL – FOUND!!!

This past weekend I got a call from Brad and his wife Sky from Louisiana. They were in Fort Walton for a Volleyball tournament. What started out as some fun and exercise in the nice weather quickly turned into a fiasco when Sky realized that not one but both of her rings were missing. She had taken her engagement ring and her wedding ring off and tucked them into her swimsuit for safekeeping. Somewhere during the course of the day she realized they were gone and that’s where I came in. They had actually left me a message the day before while I was out finding the ring for the newlyweds in Orange Beach in my last story. I sent Brad and Sky a text once I was done and offered my services.  Luckily they reached back out the next day. Brad did what a lot of people do and he went to Bass Pro Shops to buy one of their metal detectors. Unfortunately he quickly learned that the average detector will simply not work right on a saltwater beach. I got some information from them and I decided to ask my Father-in-law, Tom to join me as he has been getting into detecting. I am glad that I did! 😃  When we got there I quickly gridded out the outer edge of where I thought the rings might be based on the couple’s info. I asked Tom if he would start going around the outer areas just in case the rings weren’t where we thought they should be. It would also be a good opportunity for him to get some experience with a detector in the sand. We were out there for a long time and had to take a break and get some water. We weren’t giving up though and we headed back down to resume our search. Before too much longer, Tom waved to me to get my attention and I came over to see that Tom had found his first ring!!!  Low and behold it just so happened to be Sky’s diamond wedding band. 😃I am so glad that he joined me because I was then able to adjust my search based on what Brad had said earlier and after another 20 mins I found Sky’s engagement ring! 💍👍. What a great day, I got to experience my Father-in-law’s first ring recovery and return two precious rings back to a beautiful young couple. 😃Congratulations all around!

Wedding Ring Lost in the Sand at Leo Carrillo Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

While I was on my way to meet with Gibreel in the previous post for the lost iPhone, I received a call from Bryan who had lost his wedding ring just about an hour before. It sounded like a good possibility of a recovery, so I let him know that I had a search to do before I could get out to where he was to do their search, but that I would be there. He was fine with the arrangement, because he had something he had to do in the mean time. I found the iPhone, and was on my way to Bryan.

Traffic was good, and I was able to get to the beach at the arranged meeting time. What had happened, was that Bryan and his wife were on the beach enjoying the evening, when it started to rain. They hurried to gather up all of their belongings to not let them get wet, when during the process Bryan flicked his hand, and his ring was instantly gone. They searched for about an hour before they decided to look for someone to help them. I am glad I was available and close. When I got there they showed me the area, and I could see that they had performed a good tight grid in the sand during their search. He showed me where he thought the ring might have flown because of the motion of his hand, so that is where I began my search. The ring was not there, and I kept the grid going. After a few passes I entered the middle of their grid area when I got a good signal, and let them know I believed I had found the ring. After scooping out the sand, I scooped once more into the dumped out sand, and inside was Bryan’s ring. I got a big hug from his wife and a hearty handshake from Bryan. They had only been married for 8 months, so the ring had a pronounced sentimentality for them. What a great ending of the day!

iPhone Lost in the Sand at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

I received an email from Gibreel about his cell phone he had lost playing football the day before at the beach. The phone came out of his pocket when he dived for a pass, and was instantly gone. He and his friends searched for over an hour without any success. I wasn’t too hopeful about the recovery because this beach is cleaned often by the county beach cleaning machines, but from everything he explained to me, I thought it was worth a try. We agreed to meet there in the evening.

I arrived before Gibreel, and walked out on the beach. As I walked out I could see the smoothed out sections of sand that showed the machines had been through the area. When he arrived and came out, I showed the sections of sand to him, and explained the possibilities of a recovery. I figured I was there, so I would do the search none the less. As I started my grid Gibreel began looking around as well. He then came back to me to let me know that he recognized a can from the night before. At this point I realized that the machines had not gone through in the morning but the day before, which bolstered my hope of finding the phone. I was finding numerous coins bottlecaps and other pieces of metal, then about 45 minutes into the search, I received a real strong and large signal, and when I dug, his phone popped up. He was so happy to have it back being a college student, and not having the ability to just run out and buy another phone. I was happy to make his day!

Lost Platinum Wedding Band at Four Seasons Resort Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

This ring find began as I was completing a hunt in Lagoon 4 with Terry. Matthew from Dallas Texas called and said he lost his ring a few hours ago in either the lagoon or the surrounding area of his lounge chair at the Four Seasons Resort at Lagoon 1A. I told him we’d be right over. Terry & I split the tasking upon arrival. He did the wet & dry sand and I went into the water. Thankfully Matthew only went in the water to his waist as he was rough-housing with his son. I started a grid pattern in the water and was going out to chest deep water in case the ring got flung. The area was sterile as I hunted it the previous weekend. After about 15 minutes and in about knee deep water I got a nice 16-17 tone on the Equinox and in one scoop there was Matthews’ Platinum Wedding Ring in the scoop. I yelled over to where Matthew and Terry were chatting after completing the dry sand search and said, “Got it Matthew” He came running out into the water to confirm and the shock on his face was quite evident. Vacation saved and Matthew out of the dog house. Aloha to Matthew!

Lost Wedding Ring Eva, AL…Found!

I received a text message from Makayla late Monday night (29 April 2019) stating that she was sick to her stomach with a lost wedding ring. She told me that the ring was lost in her front yard and that she had been searching on her hands and knees looking for it. I thought that this should be an easy search, so we arranged for me to come out on Wednesday after I got off from work. As some of my fellow Ring Finders know, the searches that we think should be easy actually turn out to be some of the harder ones.

I met Makayla at her house on Wednesday evening. She told me that on Saturday she had thrown both her engagement ring and wedding band in a moment of anger. This happens way more than people think. The important thing was that she was honest with how it was lost, which would help me narrow down the search area. Makayla had found the engagement ring right away. It was only about 10 feet away from the porch where she was standing. We did a couple of test throws and my test ring went about 20-30 feet into the yard. Unfortunately, her house used to be a store, so there were a ton of signals all over the yard. The two rings were part of a set, so I got the signal that I would be looking for off of her engagement ring. I set up a grid and got to work. 2.5 hours later and still no ring. I didn’t want to give up, but I had to call it a night.

I went back out today and decided to check every signal just in case the ring was being masked by another piece of metal. After about 2 hours of searching and still no ring, so I kept expanding my grid further down her yard. After about 30 minutes of checking various signals, I had found her lost wedding ring!!! The ring was about 60 plus feet away from the porch! How the wedding band traveled so much further from the larger engagement ring and test ring completely baffled us. But nonetheless, the ring was found and we were all very happy and relieved. Makayla was very thankful for my persistence and determination! I don’t like to give up and it really bothered me that I couldn’t find it on Wednesday.

Newlyweds Lost Ring – Orange Beach, AL – FOUND!!!

Can you imagine how upset you would be if you didn’t even leave the scene of your marriage ceremony before you lost your wedding ring?  That is exactly what happened to Anthony and his brand new bride Katelyn on Orange Beach last weekend. They tied the knot on the beach with friends and family coming up after to congratulate them. They walked down to the water’s edge after that for some pictures and before they even made it back to the dunes, Katelyn had dropped her brand new and already cherished gold and diamond wedding band somewhere in the sand. Needless to say they panicked and started looking everywhere to no avail. The Pastor who performed the ceremony had a unique suggestion and went home to get a security wand like those used to identify metal on passengers at an airport. Unfortunately, this kind of detector like other common store bought models will just not read deep enough and will not work on a saltwater beach. Luckily for Anthony and Katelyn they were honeymooning in OB as well and a quick Google search put them in touch with me the following day. I came out and did a large grid search where the ceremony was performed with no luck. I moved to the water and started searching and came up on two sunbathers with their eyes closed. I moved the coil as close to them as I dared without disturbing them and sure enough I got a signal that was the same number as Katelyn’s engagement ring. It has been my experience that most people are nice and eager to help once you explain what you are doing and these two were no different when I abruptly woke them up and asked to dig near their feet. They were the first to shout happily when I dug up Katelyn’s ring but they were quickly outdone by Anthony and Katelyn who came running from the shade of the lifeguard tower. I love the smiles on both of them in the picture but I think Katelyn’s face says it best. She is so thrilled to have her ring back to its brand new home. Anthony and Katelyn, I hope you both are blessed with happy, long lives together and I thank you for letting me be part of starting out your marriage with an exciting story rather than a sad one. Lost hearing aid lost and found!

Ellen called me and was upset that she lost her newly purchased “good ear hearing aid” while raking leaves. After a few hours I got a hit on my metaldetector looking for a its 3mm hearing aid battery.

Lauren called me about two hours after her husband, Justin lost his gold wedding ring in the sand at Venice Beach, CA. It took a couple hours for Lauren to find me doing a google search for metal detector service.

Both of them met me on the beach about noon. Justin told me that he had put his ring in his jacket pocket while they went for a morning swim. He was sure the ring fell from the pocket as he picked up the jacket. 

This should have been a quick search except they were having a little difficulty locating the spot where they had laid their belongings. This is happens often, so I asked Justin to use my sand scoop to mark the area he believed the loss occurred. I also asked him if he recognized any items or trash. 

It was probably a 40 ft. square that Justin had marked off. I let him suggest the most probable side to start my grid search. After almost finishing that area. I began to search outside the marked location where Justin had noticed a piece of trash. It didn’t take but a few more minutes and I had received a great clear signal that turned out to be Justin’s ring. 

They were overjoyed and very grateful as it was getting a little discouraging after the first half hour. I knew the ring would eventually show up, it’s just a matter of eliminating one area at a time. Most people don’t understand or trust that a metal detector can find a item as small as a ring in a field of sand. It’s a matter of having the best metal detectors , knowing how to operate that equipment, having the experience and patience to search in all types of conditions.

It was a pleasure to meet and help Lauren and Justin. They were very grateful to have their wedding ring recovered..

A lawyer called me to ask me to find a law school class ring for him. I immediately  came to his assistance .  I was able to find it immediately. This attorney was jumping up and down with joy. And i was so happy i could resolve his loss quickly
