Lost ring and cell phone in Lake Fairview, Orlando, Florida…Found and returned to owner!!

Kelly was volunteering her time assisting handicapped children on paddle boards at the Fairview Marina on June 27th. It was an absolutely beautiful day in the upper 80s, partly cloudy with a slight breeze blowing across the lake. Normally a little wind is OK but with first time paddle boarders, that breeze can put you in the reeds along the edge of the lake where certain critters like to hang out! Kelly and a couple other volunteers were doing their best to keep the kids together and being a bit preoccupied she somehow lost her phone off of her paddle board. She knew approximately where it fell into the water so she figured they would come back later and try and find it. Her first responsibility though was the kids so she continued working with them trying to show them how to use the paddle and how to stay clear of the reeds. One girl was being blown right into a small patch of reeds so Kelly jumped into the water and tried to steer the girl’s board with her hands and as she went to push the board off to the side she felt her large white gold and diamond ring slide off into the water. She was stunned and could not believe what had just happened. Just an hour earlier she lost her phone and now her ring?!! Out where she dropped her phone there was really no way for her to mark the spot but here where she dropped her ring there were green reeds sticking up out of the water and Kelly had the brilliant idea to tie a knot in one of the reeds to mark the “exact spot”! As they finished up with the paddle boarding event Kelly began to wonder how she would ever retrieve her phone and especially her precious ring! She asked if anyone at the marina had a waterproof metal detector. Someone suggested going on line and that led her to theringfinders.com. She called me right away and we met up later on that afternoon. (For these kinds of water searches I use two wet suits and scuba boots to protect me from the elements and other critters who lurk in the warm Florida waters! And I also take with me two gallons of fresh water to rinse off and a change of clean cloths for my ride home!).

First off Kelly wanted me to find her ring as it is one of her most prized possessions! She showed me the reed with the knot tied in the end so I set up my water proof metal detector and began to search the area. I always try and let people know that I will be digging any and all targets that sound even close to what a gold ring would sound like. Pull tabs, nickels, fishing weights, and pieces of aluminum are just some of the items that will sound just like a gold ring. Kelly was anxious to help so I gave her my pin pointer and let her go through each full scoop of debris I dumped into my floating sifter. It took fifteen minutes to finally get her ring and you should have heard her let out a shout of joy! And what a ring too!!

Next was her lost phone. I had four PVC poles to mark the 60 square foot area and after grid searching the inside I covered a 10 foot swath around the outside and NO phone! Kelly was quite sure of the area but when finding a precise spot on water…well it is not an easy thing to do. So I continued to expand the search area keeping to the chest deep water that Kelly described to me earlier. It took another 20 minutes to get that large signal I was looking for and I could feel it with my scuba boots. I did not want to use my scoop for fear of damaging the phone so I pinched it between my feet and brought it up to the light of day. And it was vibrating and lit up so I could see it was going to be just fine. Kelly was elated to have both her phone and her ring back again! It is not often I get to reunite someone with two lost items in one day but I was so thankful that God allowed me to have a role in Kellys life and to see that awesome smile on her beautiful face!

Lost Ring Recovered in Northern Minnesota.

  • from Chisago City (Minnesota, United States)

On July 9th, 2021 I received a text message from a person that had lost a ring on a beach and wanted to know if I could come and locate it for her.  She told me it was up in Northern Minnesota at her Parents cabin. I could tell that she was somewhat panicked by the loss of a very sentimental ring.  I tried to reassure her that It’s not going anywhere, and I would love to come and find it for her.  She said they were going to give it another look in the morning and she would get back to me.  The next day I received another text that she could not find it and I was given the address of where they were at.  After looking up the address on Google maps I headed North.  It was about 180 miles from where I was at and I loved every minute of the drive.  What a beautiful day for a drive up north.  I asked if it was ok if I brought my dog with for the ride and I was told by all means bring the dog.

About 3 hours later I arrived and was met by her mother and several yellow labs and a golden retriever in the driveway. My dog is a yellow lab as well and boy did those dogs hit it off.  Running and playing. It was nice because my dog doesn’t get a chance very often to run with dogs her own size much.  Before you know it they were in the water have a blast.  I was shown the beach where the ring was lost and it was about a 30’ x 40’area.  The ring was lost tossing a toy to one of the dogs. So a real direction was not known. It could have taken off in any direction, and maybe even backwards into the lake. I started to looking in the sand for the ring.  On my 3rd pass back and forth I got a strong hit for something metallic just under the sand. I brought my sand scoop with to help make things easier. I took a couple of scoops and missed whatever it was.  Then I had it in my scoop. A beautiful gold ring.  It took less then 5 minutes to locate it.  While the party that lost the ring was not around during the hunt she was quickly notified about the recovery and you just knew that everything was going to be OK. It was a honor going up and helping put the pieces of life back in order for one more person.  To top it off, my dog was able to have a few playmates for a short time and we were back on the road.  It was so nice meeting such a wonderful family, perfect summer day, and an absolute beautiful scenic drive to boot.  It doesn’t get much better then tha

Ring lost at Cardiff State Beach found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

I was out detecting with a buddy, when a guy named Ian rides his bike up to me and asks if I could possibly search for his wife’s lost wedding band at Cardiff State Beach. I said I’d be happy to do it and that to let me know when we could meet there and conduct the search. He said it would take him a bit to bike there and would text me when he was available. I got the text, actually found a parking spot, and met him at the location out on a busy beach. Ian and his wife were here visiting from a sweltering Tucson, AZ and were enjoying the beach yesterday, when while applying skin lotion. the ring slipped off into the dry sand and vanished. They sifted with fingers for several hours, but, no luck. Looking for a small gold ring, the signal can be pretty low on the scale and weak as well. I figured I’d be digging foil for a while, but, actually didn’t get many signals and ended up expanding the search area a bit more than we thought we would have to. I finally got a weak, but, repeatable 7 on my Equinox and after a couple of scoops, had the ring in my hand. A happy Ian can now go back and surprise his wife of 15 years with her ring….oh, and it’s her birthday today! Happy Birthday and ring reunion! A pleasure to meet you Ian and thank you for the reward.

Ring Lost at Pacific Beach found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Jordan was visiting here from out of town and went to the beach with a friend. They were throwing the football around a bit when disaster struck. One of Jordan’s throws was more than just the football. His special ring went with the ball and ended up in waist deep water. Jordan had already left town and returned home when I got a call from his mother Silvia asking if I could help recover it. Surf losses are never a sure thing, but, this sounded fairly straight forward even though it had been a couple of days. At the time of the call, the tide was not in my favor, so, I decided to search a bit after midnight to take advantage of a nice low tide at 2:30 am. The water level at that point should be about 4 feet shallower that when it was lost, so, I was hoping for a wet sand hunt. In getting the details about the ring, I found it certainly was a special ring! It was purchased by Jordan’s grandmother as a wedding gift to Jordan’s father on his wedding day. Not an actual wedding ring, but, a wonderful gift none the less. It’s an 18K, custom, one-of-a-kind beauty that was made in Bolivia and eventually was passed down to Jordan who was devastated that it was lost. This just had to be found! With just a map with an X on it to go by, I started my grid at the south end of the search area. After about an hour and a half of mid-slope to knee deep surf I got my umpteenth pull tab signal (16 on the Equinox) in ankle deep water, but, was happy to see Jordan’s ring in the bottom instead. I texted Silvia that the lost had been found, and that I’d contact her later in the morning after I got some sleep. Jordan’s sister Nicolette lives close by and was able to come by yesterday, pick up the ring, and pose for the photo with Jordan’s football friend. I’m happy everything worked out well, and thank you for the reward.

Gold Ring Found Va Beach

  • from Virginia Beach (Virginia, United States)

I received a message from Stephanie about a lost gold wedding band with diamonds. I contacted her  and she told me the approximate location of where she lost it. It makes it a little more difficult when you are not able to meet the person and get a little better location. On my first attempt I was not able to locate it mainly due to the amount of people on top of the spot. I decided to hunt the beach and check later. It worked! When I returned the area was clear of people and I was able to grid the entire area off. It ended up being in a different spot that I first grid off. I was able to meet her and surprise her with the find. Gigmaster on youtube!

Gold Ring Found Va Beach

I was messaged by Caroline about a lost ring in Va Beach. Her friend found me from my channel on youtube (Gigmaster). She actually sent me pictures where if was lost and a general location. On day one I searched but did not have any luck and the stinging nettles were coming after me! On day 2 Caroline was going to meet me but was delayed so I ventured back out in the water and found it before she arrived. I was able to surprise here with the find.

Va Beach Gold Ring Found

  • from Virginia Beach (Virginia, United States)

Many times people come up to me on the beach to say they lost an item. This case is no different. This man lost his ring while moving from one site to another. Unfortunately it was not where he thought. A quick grid of the area produced the ring!

Prescription Glasses Found Va Beach

  • from Virginia Beach (Virginia, United States)

We may not always get a call and we don’t limit our search to rings. On this occasion I found a pair of prescription glasses and started asking people in the area if anyone lost their glasses. I found a guy that said his dad had lost his not long ago. They were his! He was very grateful and was wondering how he was going to drive back home without his glasses!

Lost prescription glasses, Ponce Inlet, Fl….Found and returned to owner!

While enjoying a beautiful day at Ponce Inlet beach, Mark had laid his very expensive glasses on one of the speakers under the canopy and completely forgot about them. He and his family spent most of the day relaxing on the beach, listening to their music, swimming and working on the great tan that Mark has! Later in the afternoon the skies began to darken and as much as they hoped it would pass–a big tropical thunder storm quickly came up along with strong winds and lightening off in the distance. Mark and his family frantically grabbed up their towels and belongings, tore down the canopy as fast as they could and made a run for cover. The tide was coming in fast as well and soon the area where they had their things set up was being washed with the high tide salt water waves.

At first they thought they had gotten all their things safely to dry cover and then Mark asked if anyone had seen his glasses. No one had picked them up so as soon as the rain let up Mark made his way down onto the beach and began looking for his glasses. Two days passed and Mark began worrying that his 500 dollar prescription glasses might be gone for good and then a thought came to him. “Treasure Hunter near me!” And after typing that phrase into Google he found my name and number on “theringfinders.com web site and we met later on that very day!

Mark explained what happened and showed me where they set up their canopy two days earlier. I asked a few questions about his glasses. Were they heavy or thin framed? Was the sand soft or hard packed the day the glasses went missing? And I could see a line of sea weed where the high tides had come up to. I started my grid search thinking that just maybe, if his glasses were heavy enough, they may have sunk just under the surface of the sand. So treading lightly I began to swing my coil with Mark watching my every move. I stopped and told Mark to start looking the immediate area over along the high tide mark because just maybe his glasses were light enough that the waves pushed them along and deposited them close by. Ten minutes passed and as I was finishing up detecting the small area I heard Mark say, “Hey..Look at this!” And there, sticking out of the brown sea weed was a thin framed pair of prescription glasses…full of sand and half disguised…but none the less just fine!

Mark was shocked and so thankful to have his glasses back once again! And thanks Mark for calling me and giving me the opportunity to help get your glassed back where they belong!
