Sunday of Labor Day weekend, I was sitting near the office at the Newport Dunes RV Resort. Mike called asking if I could help him find his Platinum / White Gold wedding ring lost in dry sand. I asked him where he was located. He told me he was at the Newport Dunes on the beach. Couldn’t believe that I was less than 50 yards away. I walked over to talk to him, but had to go a couple blocks to get my detector.

When I returned Mike told me that he had put 3 rings in the cupholder of the beach chair and they fell out when picked up the chair. He found two of the rings but this one wouldn’t let him find it. The area was well marked off, so began a small grid search. Actually, I missed it on my first grid. It showed up in the scoop after I did a cross grid and it was a very scratchy signal, possibly because of the two different metals. The ring is mostly platinum with white gold filigree inlaid. I didn’t have time to re-scan the ring with my detector to learn why it was such an iffy signal. Possibly the ring was vertical in the sand which coming in from the other direction may have helped the signal? No time to play around we had photos to take for the book of smiles.

It was a good short search with smiles everywhere and Mike was grateful to have his wedding ring of 20 years back on his finger. I still can’t believe how close I was when he called.

I Phone 7 recovered in Asbury Park NJ found by Dennis Burlingame

Got a call from Jerry who was enjoying Labor Day on Asbury Park Beach when he noticed his I Phone was missing. With the help of a friend who found RingFinders he found me. It was starting to get dark so I headed there right away. When I got there they were waiting for me on the boardwalk, and took me where they were sitting on the beach that day. Wasn’t sure how it was going to go because a phone doesn’t always sink into the sand and was hoping no one didn’t see it and took it on him. I searched the area and came up empty, then he told me they were sitting by the water for awhile which was now the high tide line. Did the wet sand just off the dry and heard that high tone I was waiting for. I didn’t bring my scoop because I didn’t want to scratch the phone so I started to dig with my foot and about 7 inches down out popped his phone. Thanks goodness it was water proof being in the wet sand, it turned on with no problem. Another Happy Ending, glad I could help.

Lost Keys Found! Avalon NJ

I received a call from Andrew late yesterday evening after he and his family left the beach yesterday, realizing that he had lost his keys in the sand.  He explained where about the family was sitting grid of that area the keys were nowhere to be found.  So we expanded the search further out another 30 feet on each side and the rental car keys were found!

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost at Redondo Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Joel last night about 9:00 PM regarding his wedding ring that he had lost earlier in the day. He and his wife were at the beach, when a sudden cloud burst caused them to hurriedly grab up all of their belongings to get back to their car. They then went to a restaurant about 10 miles away to have dinner, that is when he discovered his ring was missing. they played the scenario over in their minds, and figured the loss occurred on the beach during the calamity of the downpour and rushing to gather everything up. They went back after dinner, and searched the area for about an hour with no luck. The tide had also come up above the area they had been in. which obscured any sign of exactly where they had been sitting. We discussed it all, and I told him I would be there in about 20 minutes.

When I arrived, Joel and his wife Hanriet met me and walked me to the area they believed  the loss to have happened. they told me that they were celebrating their first wedding anniversary this day. I thought wow, and said we have to find the ring. I could see that the water had come over at least half of the beach, so all seating marks had been washed out. They showed me where they believed they had been, so I began right in the middle and worked one way and then the other. I was getting some coins, and standard bottle caps and aluminum pieces, but no ring. I then began to expand my grid. That is when I scooped a nice shiny silver color ring in the scoop. Getting excited I called Hanriet over, and said I think we found it, but when she and then Joel looked at it, they told me it was not his. Upon closer inspection, I could see that it was an inexpensive stainless steel ring. I then continued my grid. I worked out the one side, and then expanded the other side, with nothing but the same types of finds, coins and trash metal. I decided to expand the search more towards the water, one pass, another, one more and then platinum in the scoop, 11:00 PM. It was definitely out of the box. I also want to thank Joel and Hanreit for hanging in there with me for that late night hunt. It was a great pleasure to help celebrate their first wedding anniversary by returning Joel’s lost ring, a ring had he waited until the next day would have most certainly been gone because the County cleans those beaches with sifting machines that are very thorough. What a pair of great smiles!

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost Hawrelak Park, Edmonton Alberta

I received  a call from Nick this morning requesting my service to locate his wife’s ring which she lost the previous day while she was working at the Amphitheatre in Hawrelak park.  Knowing the area very well I knew this was going to be a challenge namely because this area is full of pull tabs from all the performances that are held there, I agreed to meet Nick and Shea at the park at 1:30 pm.

As expected my first solid ring tone was a pull tab and many more after that,  but about one and half hours of searching the hill I received a strong signal and a light tone in the background  and there was Shea’s ring just visible under the grass. I called them both over and asked them if this was their ring.

Shea told me that the ring was given to her by her grandmother as a wedding gift ten years ago and she was very grateful to have her ring back on her finger.

Thank you Nick and Shea for entrusting me to find your lost ring.

Mens Gold Wedding Band – Lost & Found On Studland Beach

Ben, originally was from Swanage, was down for a few days with his wife from London making the most of the recent weather. The beach had swollen with people that day so they both wandered off to find a quiet place to swim.

Ben sensibly placed his ring into his jeans pocket for safe keeping but when he returned he forgot the ring was in there and felt it fall from his pocket into the sand somewhere. A desperate search probably made things worse- the ring sank deeper & deeper. They had only been married two years and the sense of loss must have been enormous.

Ben called me a couple of days after he had lost it. Where he had lost it exactly was now a little clouded and with the beach combed every day by treasure hunters – I wasn’t hopeful. I set out and covered 375m square to the north along the beach.. nothing. I begun my grid for another 375m south and after half an hour approx, the sound of gold filled my headphones.

Ben was very grateful to be reunited with the ring and I was grateful as he, without hesitation, contacted Margret Green Animal Rescue and made a generous donation.

Property Markers Found In Vermont

I’ve been pretty busy with other types of searches lately, not just jewelry. A few weeks ago an older gentleman called me after he learned I search for things with metal detectors. His daughter had just had a large cedar fence installed on her side and back lawn. She was second guessing herself about whether she had told the fence installers the correct borders of her property. She thought there was a possibility that the side fence might be partially on her neighbor’s property. They figured it would cost a bundle to hire a surveyor, and may take some time to get it done. So, they called me to see if I could find the lines. I went right up that weekend to try to locate the markers. They helped me by providing the deed and helping me measure back from the street right of ways. After about an hour we found all 3 of the markers that indicated where the back and side of her property was. The good news was that the side she was worried about was fine, it was about 3′ inside her line. The bad news was that about 1/2 of the back section of fence was on the other neighbors land. We all knew that the fence installers would charge a lot to come back and move the fencing. So, I offered to go back and do it for her. A couple weeks later I went back and removed 2 of the side sections and moved the other 7 sections back onto her property.
They were the nicest people, offering me water food and help. They were from the Southwest and that Southern Hospitality was great!

Lost Wedding Band 2nd Beach, Stanley Park…Found!

I saw an ad about a lost ring and it gave a fantastic description of the area where the ring was lost. I sent out an email with my contact info about my website TheRingFinders.com

I won’t go out on these types of searches without talking to the person first as you need to get the exact info in regards to the area it was lost in and how it was lost.

Two days later I receive a call from a young lady who said that she saw my email and wanted to know if I could take a look for her husband’s ring. Of course I wanted to but I had to wait until low tide the next morning.

I worked until 12;30am that night and got up at 5am to hit the low tide, when I got there around 6am I could see lots of holes in the exact area that they had advertised the ring to be missing…That’s not a great thing to see when you know that someone saw the ad and came out before me.

I started my grid search and got a few coins and some bottle caps but no ring. I kept extending my grid search and just a little after an hour of searching I found the ring!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The young man told me that he was happily married for 31 years and that it meant a lot to get his ring it back!

Chain Lost in the Woods – Found in Oakton Virginia (Sept 2017)

An email came in earlier in the week describing the “chain of events”: Howard and his son were doing some work last weekend along the fence of his property; pulling old fence posts using Howard’s tractor and his 12′ long chain. After the work was complete, they threw the chain in the bucket of the tractor and Howard’s son headed for the garage. Along the way, his son decided to level off an area of dirt, leaves, and compost… once back at the garage – no chain anymore. Howard was pretty sure the chain was in a 25 sq ft area of a freshly leveled dirt mix, but had no idea how deep it could be. They searched for the chain, even used an old metal detector they had on hand, but could not locate it anywhere. So Howard emailed me through the RingFinders and we settled on a time to link up – Friday around 5pm. Once on site, Howard showed me the area, I got my machine ready for the search and off I went… 6 swings in and I heard the unmistakable tone through the headset… Howard’s chain has been found.

Diamond Heirloom Ring Lost in Corona, CA…Found And Joyously Returned.

I received a call from Jason yesterday who had lost his ring while doing yard work that morning at his house. The ring had a diamond that had been given to his father by his grandmother. His father then had it made into a ring to be passed down to successive generations. Jason was the first to have received the ring in succession, and had looked forward to passing it to his own son. He had mowed his lawn, and also cleared a lot of his flowerbeds of leaves and debris, and in the process realized his ring was missing. He was concerned that it might be in the flower beds, or worse, in one of the trash cans that were scheduled for pick up. He said he would be there if I came right away, so I left immediately.

When I got there Jason took me to the area he had cleaned, which also had the trash cans there for inspection. I decided to search the cans first to eliminate them as a possibility. We took the first can and emptied its contents on the pool deck to search. I spread out the leaves and the thick green grass from the freshly mowed lawn, and began my search. Nothing in the leaves, but then in the grass, which had been at the bottom of the large can, I got a good sound. I took out my pin pointer, and began to move the thick grass around looking for the metal I heard. There deep in the grass appeared Jason’s ring. He was so happy, knowing it could have been lost forever if it had gone out with the trash. What a great smile!
