This ring find started with a call from the Marriot staff concerning a Japanese couple who lost their ring at the resort. They were trying to coordinate an interpreter but wanted to be sure I was available. After 30 minutes with no call back I called the Marriot looking for the couple. Rush hour traffic was fast approaching and I wanted to get on the road ASAP. The couple couldn’t be found. Then a gentleman named Kevin gave me a call and said he knew where another couple lost their ring in the sand earlier in the day and if I’d come out to find as they searched by sifting the sand with no luck. I told Kevin I was on the way and I’d call him in about an hour when I arrived. Kevin and his family met me at Longboards’ bar on the beach and we headed down to the sandy area where he had been sifting for the ring. He already gridded out the area about the size of a large automobile. First screaming target was a Lincoln zinc cent. Ten seconds later was a low growler that was sounding good. Two scoops down and there was an incredible 10 diamonds in white gold ring. Well this can’t be it there is no solitaire diamond. Kevin said he assumed it would be since he was told it was an engagement ring. I finished the grid with 11 more cents. Now to figure out whose ring I found. Kevin thought the couple may have left the resort but was going to check and see if he could find them. Meanwhile with a traffic check I wasn’t leaving anytime soon. I grabbed my phone and started playing Pokemon Go! About 10 minutes later my phone rang and it was Genelle from Coeurd’Alene, Idaho who had lost her ring. She described it exactly and asked me how I could get it back to them. I told her traffic kept me at the resort so she was in luck I was 3 minutes from them. Genelle and her husband David met me by Longboards and after showing her the ring their were several Thank You Jesus comments. I think it might have been divine intervention that kept me at the resort so Genelle could get her ring back before leaving on a flight the next day. Such grateful people. Aloha to Genelle & David and the entire McHale family for such effort in making this ring find happen.

Car Key Lost at Sunset Beach, CA…Recovered and Happily Returned.

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

p1000180p1000179

I received a call from Maxim who explained to me that he had lost his car key as he was walking to the water to go surfing about 6:30 in the morning. I got the call about 11:00 AM, and he told me he had been searching for the key all morning. I told him I would be there quickly.

When I got to the location Maxim was waiting for me. I found out that he had lost his only key to his car, so there was really no where for him to go until it was found. He showed me the area where he thought it was lost, and I could see where he had searched by the grid lines in the sand made from his hands and feet dragging in the sand. I set to grid the same area, because he was so sure of where it had dropped, and I knew that sand will move things around when someone does a hand search making an item very hard to find. I did a grid, and then a cross grid; nothing! I proceeded to question more, and decided to grid towards the entrance to the beach. I searched about 10 feet when I had a good hit. I scooped once, nothing in the scoop. I looked at the spot to set the scoop in again when I saw the tip of the key sticking up.

I reached down raised the key, and Maxim could not believe it was where I found it. I told him it happens all the time, people don’t always have the perfect recall we would like to have, so we as “Ring Finders” have to ask a lot of discerning questions in order to help probe the memory. Just so happy to see his smile knowing he was going to be able to get back into his groove.

If you lose your ring or other metal item of value, call as soon as possible. I will work hard, using the most up to date metal detectors, to help you find what you thought might never be found again. I search,  Beverly Hills, Hermosa Beach, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Newport Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Santa Monica, Seal Beach, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Torrance, Venice Beach, and all parks, yards, gardens, and ponds (to 5 foot depths) in all of Orange County, all of Los Angeles County, and Ventura County.

Lost Kia FOB at Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This hunt started on Discoverer’s Day when I got a panic call from Kiala from Waipahu Hawaii. While enjoying a day at the Ko Olina resort her Kia key FOB went missing in the sand…she thought. I was on a diamond earring hunt on the North Shore and told Kiala we just wrapped it up and were heading her way. Unfortunately she already was having her car towed to the dealership to get a new key. I started my hunt in the area she described over the phone and after about twenty minutes I was about to give up the search with no key FOB. I decided to do one more grid line downhill towards the water. That paid off when I got a screaming target and in the scoop was Kiala’s Kia FOB. Mission accomplished and now an immediate call to the dealership to cancel the $400 service charge for a new key. Got it! I then met Kiala at the dealership to hand over the key. Much needed sigh of relief! Aloha to Kiala!

Wedding ring lost and found in the surf

  • from New South Wales (Australia)
Contact:

I received an email from Greg with some very clear details on the location of his lost wedding ring in the surf at Port Macquarie on the east coast of New South Wales, Australia.

The time and location of the loss including compass directions, concise distances in metres and a description of the circumstances stood out as “unusual” but was later explained by Greg’s background.

Greg had been married for about a week and was having his first surfing lesson while still on his honeymoon when his wedding ring slipped off his finger in the surf.

The drive to Port Macquarie is about 1.5 hours but low tide was three hours away so no hurry.

In preparation, Greg had “dug” a deep trench in the sand to act as a transit for the search and we hit the beach with the Minelab Excalibur II about two hours before low tide. The first target we dug was an old brass buckle about an hour into the search but otherwise the headphones were keeping fairly quiet.

Greg left on family duties leaving me to hunt in darkness and as the headphones remained quiet, I expanded the search further in to the surf and further to the south.

On the second pass in about four feet of water the Excalibur II woke from its sleep and screamed at me and after three scoops Greg’s white gold wedding band was gleaming in the bottom of my trusty scoop I call Alice (Alice Scooper in case you were wondering why).

A photograph sent to Greg elicited the expected response.

Things have been reasonably quiet over the Australian winter and I’ve been envious of all you Ring Finder guys having too much fun in the USA/Canada so I’m hoping that Greg’s ring is the start of a busy season in Australia. I promise to do more blogging this season than I did last summer. img_0448

Lost Men’s Gold Wedding band Found Metal Detecting In Lake –

  • from Twin Cities Metro (Minnesota, United States)

Brittany & Kevin recently moved to the Minneapolis area from Portland, Or. They met up with friends at a fishing dock on Lake Calhoun. While on the dock, Kevin was messing around with his new wedding band and it dropped down onto the dock and of-course, fell between the boards into the lake. Brittany & Kevin are newly weds and he only had this ring for 4 months. He braved the ice cold Minnesota water and searched as best as he could to no avail. Brittany did a search on-line trying to find anyone that could help retrieve the ring. Up popped “The Ring Finders” website. Brittany gave me a call and we set up to meet the following day. I decided scuba would be the best chance at retrieval even though the ring was only in approx. 5 feet of water. The dive was only 15 seconds long and I had the ring in my hand. I’m glad it was a quick find as the water is very cold at this time of the year. It was great to meet you Brittany, you were a joy to talk too and thanks for all the help getting me prepared for the dive. Prayers for a long and happy marriage.

Cleaning Eavestrough in haste and late Fathers Heirloom Ring goes Flying Off~Rockwood, Ontario

  • from Brampton (Ontario, Canada)
  • Received a phone call at work from Ron from Rockwood, Ontario. A fellow “Ring Finders” member and recommended me because I was close proximity to his location. Ron enquired if I was available to help find his Father’s beloved ring he has worn for 30 years.

I arrived at his beautiful home coming through the most amazing tree covered lengthly driveway. Amen for my 4×4 for some rugged terrain! Ron briefed me that he was high up on his ladder cleaning out the pine needles and debris from his eavestrough while throwing down the debris his beloved Father’s massive ring flew off his finger. He searched for some time with no luck in locating it.

I started detecting from the top of the hill down and around the back of the home. On my way back on my 2nd pass….it was glaring at me between some leaves. Sure couldn’t miss that monster ring!! What a beautiful and very unique ring!! Biggest ring I have ever had the pleasure to recover & return. MASSIVE!!

What a nice Chap. As well, Ron gave a generous donation to my February snowmobile ride in support of the “Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation”…financial assistance for men & woman fighting breast cancer!! “PAYING IT FORWARD” R-O-C-K-S!!

The drive in & out under the trees was spectacular…felt regal almost!

Lost Engagement and Wedding Ring playing Volleyball in the waters of Wasaga Beach 3, ON

  • from Brampton (Ontario, Canada)

Well, talk about pulling at my heart strings!!!

I was contacted via email by a frantic Trish P of Toronto.  Trish was totally overwhelmed and heartbroken because her boyfriend of 16 years finally proposed to her and where married last October!! This definitely pulled at my heart strings and I knew in my heart I could help her and those rings were just waiting for me to find them.

Trish was with her Family and Friends at Wasaga Beach #3. They were playing volleyball in 4 1/2′ to 5′ depth water 175′ from the shoreline when both her wedding ring and engagement ring flew off her finger. They spent the rest of the day searching for hours but could not find them. The next day a friend of her’s guided her to my ‘Metal Detecting for Charity” Facebook page for finding lost rings. I was actually detecting at Wasaga Beach #1 and asked her to head up form Toronto as the sooner I start detecting the area they were lost the better chances I had in finding them. Trish had said she said “I felt it was a needle in a haystack and she didn’t know metal detectors could go in water”. I told her to BREATHE and head on up when she could.

3 hours later I met up will her and her husband Gary (alias Spongebob…little inside joke as I couldn’t remember his name). We walked all the way down to Beach #3 not realize how long it would take. I spent approximately 1 1/2 hours in the water with Trish with no luck. Walking back to shore I got a hit. Unfortunately, it was a men’s wedding ring. My heart sank but I was happy that I had recovered another ring. I told her I was coming back up all weekend dog/house sitting and would not stop searching for it till I found it. Well attempt #2 was in 5′ to 6’ foot waves….CRAZY. I was tossed around and learn just how stubborn I was. Onto the 3rd attempt the following day and again NO LUCK!

The end of July and I headed back up to Wasaga for my 4th attempt. Trish and Gary where also coming up to Beach #1 with Friends. I started that morning with a Prayer to the water Gods, Detecting Gods, Guardian Angels for some Faith, Hope and Luck finding Trish’s stunning rings….I had been in the water at 9:30am and around 2:00pm and thought a couple more grid passes and I’m heading back to get some food and water. An incredible low strong tone…I haven’t heard before had my heart pumping. First scoop out…there was Trish’s WEDDING BAND full of beautiful little diamonds!! I freaked…and then decided a circular grid around this location. 3 minutes later BAM!! The same low strong tone. My heart was racing. First scoop….nothing. 2nd scoop …YIPPPEEEE….there was her ENGAGEMENT RING!! I started to cry and gave thanks to the Gods. I was shaking like a leaf.

I raced backed to shore line beaming from ear to ear and the ladies beside me asked “Did you find anything”…I was overjoyed to show them that I found Trish’s ring set. They were amazed. I quickly called…and texted Trish..leaving messages to see where she was at. I had just been notified on the Friday by Chris Turner the I was Officially accepted to “The Ring Finders” and was super stoked. Chris had suggested when recovering a ring…try to surprise the client.

Sure enough I caught up to Trish and 2 girlfriends as I made up that I was taking a break, stretching my legs and getting food and a hot Tim Horton’s coffee. I had already eaten my TimBits and decided to put the rings in the little bag…..my plotting was starting. I asked to walk over to say hi to Gary to stretch my legs….and then proceeded to ask to do a short little live interview. THEY HAD NO IDEA I FOUND BOTH RINGS!! So slowly getting into the interview and then I couldn’t wait any longer to say…”Oh by the way, I have something for you”…Trish’s JAW DROP with the words “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD…ARE YOU KIDDING ME” there in the TimBit bag were both her incredible 1.7 carat matching wedding/engagement ring set. P-R-I-C-E-L-E-S-S!!! I will never ever forget that moment!! EVER!! not to mention her girlfriends were crying in happiness.

Video of live FB beach interview and the EXCELLENT surprise:

I still watch the video as it has become my most favourite ring recovery & return!! Trish and Gary made an extremely generous donation to the Charity I snowmobile for… “The Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation” helping men & woman with the financial burden fighting breast cancer!! I am very grateful and proud for this opportunity and also meeting such nice people!! ZOOWEEMAMA~~~

Lady’s white gold 3-ring set lost in Hudson, WI while kayaking – Now found!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

Marie and her husband Zack were on a guided kayaking trip down a small river in WI when Marie got swept into a swift and deep part of the river that had low-hanging branches blocking the way.  She had no choice but to go through and duck as best she could to avoid getting hurt by the branches.

As Marie was doing her best to get herself and her kayak out of trouble, the kayak tipped over and she went sprawling into the river.  She made it to shore, dumped the water out of her kayak and started again on her journey down the river.

A few hundred yards past the spot where she went in, Marie discovered that her 3 rings welded together were missing and let Zack know the bad news.  She was certain that the most likely spot the rings were lost was back up stream where she went in.

Zack call me 6 days later and told me the story.  I knew that the hunt wasn’t going to be an easy one and Zack said it was a bit of a hike to get to the site, so I contacted two buddies who also have a lot of experience searching for rings.  The more people searching, the better the chances a ring will be found – especially in a river.

Zack met us in town near the river and we followed him to the a parking spot about 3/4 mile away from the search site.  We got on our waders, got our gear together and walked through some little-used trails and across the river to the spot where Marie’s kayak tipped over.  I was surprised how fast and how deep the water was at this particular spot. We knew some of the water was too deep to search, but we covered every bit we could.

It was Mike who eventually found the rings by taking off his waders and going deeper into the river.  He found it right where the kayak likely tipped over: immediately after the low-hanging branches.  Zack was thrilled and gave us a generous reward.

I was really impressed by Zack’s effort to get his wife’s rings back.  He was very determined and really thought things through.  Below are pictures of Zack and the rings.
