May 2022 Maren contacted me asking if I could do a search for her lost cochlear hearing aid. She explained to me that she was visiting some friends at the University of WA dorms. There were out on the sixth floor balcony dancing around. Maren got a bit too aggressive and one of her magnetic cochlear hearing aids flew off, fell to the balcony deck and rolled off the edge. Her cochlear hearing aid then took a six story free fall to the bushes below. Maren and her friends immediately went to the ground level and searched the best they could with no success.  They even went to the local hardware store and bought a large magnet and twine. They went back up to the sixth floor balcony lowering the magnet down in an attempt to fish the cochlear hearing aid out of the bushes. This only resulted in the magnet getting snagged in some ivy vines causing them the loss of their new magnet. At this point feeling devastated one of Maren’s friends decided to do a online search for “metal detectors near you” and found TheRingFinders.com She thought surely they should be able to find a hearing aid.

It was early evening when the call came through. It had only been lost for a few hours but for what ever reason the bluetooth tracking feature between her lost cochlear hearing aid and her mobile app were not connecting. There was a concern that maybe the unit was damage on impact of they just didn’t get close enough to the unit for it to be detected by the app. With evening soon approaching dark clouds were forming indicating light rains could occur at any moment. Maren shared her concerns that her desperately needed hearing aid was now at risk of water damage. So an emergency call out was under way to search for her lost Cochlear hearing aid. Even if the unit had taken some damage she could still take to her audiologist for service.

March 2022 Gina contacted me asking if I could do a search for her lost wedding band at Alki beach in Seattle. Gina told me that she goes out often about once a month and does her own cold water Polar Bear Plunge. It was one day prior to Saint Patrick’s Day while in chest high water she let her hand dangle down in the cold Puget Sound waters. In a flash of a moment she felt her white gold wedding ring fall off her finger disappearing into the sand and rocks below her feet. Devastated about the only thing she could do was to make a mental note while walking out of the surf towards the beach. Thankfully she was able to line up with a side street and road sign that proved to be a pivotal benefit to this search.

Her phone call for assistance reached me about twenty days past the date of loss. As finders were are always keeping the hope alive but also know in public environments there is never any guarantees that someone else hasn’t already detected or eyeballed such lost items of value. Lost Rose Gold Ring Found in the Snow in Ann Arbor Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Getting The Cold Shoulder……

…from winter is what newlywed Greg received a few weeks ago. Married just over a month and while at work on a break, he was making a snowman and his ring fell off in the parking lot. Searching frantically, he couldn’t find it. So, he went back into the office and gave me a call. We made plans to search but upon leaving his office he noticed a plow had piled up snow at least waist high maybe deeper. He was on the verge of a meltdown when I arrived, so I quickly searched both piles and found nothing. The piles were deep, iced over, hard as granite and near impossible to penetrate. Finding out he was leaving for home out of state and would not be returning for a few weeks made things more complicated. Knowing the ring was more than a foot deep into one of the glaciers, we elected for me to return in his absence to search. So, the next week I returned and noticed the piles had melted considerably enough to metal detect. The first snow pile revealed nothing, but moving to the other pile I got a weak but repeatable signal with the metal detector. Poking thru the snow and moving it around revealed Greg’s rose gold ring hiding under a chunk of ice just over a foot deep! Lifting it out I took a quick pic and texted him. Within a few minutes he texted back that this was the great news that him and his wife were hoping for, and totally surprised the ring was found. Meeting today I said that this was a day long coming. We laughed and agreed that this was a meltdown we can shake off!

Lost – Gold and Silver earring – Kill Devil Hills (OBX), NC – FOUND!!!

  • from New Smyrna Beach (Florida, United States)

On Friday, I got a FB message from Lisa.  She explained that her mother-in-law had lost a gold and silver earring and was wondering if I could help.  I said of course. I asked her to call me and during the conversation we set a time to meet.

On the way I said a prayer for God to give me favor.   When I arrived, I met Lisa and Robin.  Robin said she had been sitting on the steps of their beautiful waterfront home and her cat came up to her.  She went on to say the cat had batted at her sparkly gold and silver earring.  Just then, it went flying and she heard a ding as it hit something.   She tried to find the earring but had no success.

The steps were flanked by bushes right up to the railing and the ground was cover with leaves.  Due to the tight conditions, I was only able to cover a small area with my metal detector.  As I expected, near a home, I found nails, pennies, and roof flashing.

I squeezed through the bushes and began searching with my pinpointer. (An electronic device like they scan you with in airport). Again, I found several trash items.  Next, I checked right under the stair stringers.  Bingo!  It was a good hit, and a shuffling of leaves revealed a bright, sparkling earring.

I hid the earring in my hand and went to find Robin.  I asked her if she could explain again how she lost it.  As she began the story, I raised the earring to eye level.  As she caught sight of it, she shouted, “You found it!!  Happiness.

Tiny Gold Ear Ring Found in Sand at Cable Bay.

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)
Danielle contacted me after losing her tiny gold and diamond earring at Little Cable Bay, between Mangonui and Taipa.
She had spent some considerable time looking for it, but in the dry sand a tiny earring that blended in perfectly would have been virtually invisible to the eye.
I wasn’t able to get away from work for a few hours, but in this instance it worked out well with the tides.
She had sent me a photo which showed some trees lined up as a reference, so I could make a start as soon as I got there.
It didn’t take long to locate myself in the right spot and I started work, a very tedious process with a lot of interference from metallic rubbish that saturated the dry sands above the high tide line.
Danielle arrived soon after and was able to give me her best guess as to where it might be.
With a high probability location now identified, I changed up a few settings and started listening for the tiniest wisp of gold in among all the can tabs and flakes of tinfoil.
It was hard mentally processing each individual signal, digging the probable signals and flagging the unlikely, but possibles to revisit later if necessary.
About 10 minutes in, with the coil running under the surface of the loose and fluid dry sand, I got a repeatable signal only just audible over nearby rubbish.
I ran my hand through the sand, nothing was seen and the pinpointer didn’t pick it up, but I had moved the target. Was it yet another tiniest fragment of ancient drink can?
Slowly I progressively eliminated ever smaller piles of sand until there was one small heap left.
I grabbed it and slowly opened out my hand, scrutinising the grains as they fell through the slightest gap between my fingers, until resting in my palm was the distinctive shape of an earring.
Danielles eyes lit up when she realised her precious lost earring had been found in amongst several trillion grains of sand.

Lost Gold Men’s Wedding Band at Waialae-Kahala Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began back on 2 February when I got a call from the Ala Moana Hotel and guest Ana Lucia who was on her honeymoon from Costa Rica.  Ana told me her husband Jose lost his Yellow Gold Wedding ring at Waialae-Kahala Beach a few hours ago in waist deep water.  I asked if they could meet me there in about 30 minutes as that beach is only 10 minutes from my home.  They agreed so I headed over.  There is very limited parking but I got lucky as I was pulling in someone was leaving.  It took Jose & Ana a bit longer as rush hour traffic was just starting.  When they arrived Ana interpreted to Jose my request for him to show me where in the water he was.  I asked to go to the deepest and then I would work towards shore.  I started a grid search and worked towards shore.  Thankfully not too many targets but as I entered waist deep water Jose relayed thru Ana that he thought I was getting too close to shore.   Ana thought I was actually too far to the East so I moved Westward and deeper.  This area became very trashy so I was digging plenty of trash.  After an hour or so Jose & Ana said thank you for trying but maybe it was just meant to be.  I told them I wouldn’t give up and would try again soon.  Turns out the next day was super calm and a perfect low tide so I returned and started the hunt again.  With all the targets I figured the ring must still be here.  I started the Jose grid again this meant I was going to work more East and toward shore.  Sure enough as I left the previous days grid more East and Shallower I got a booming #20 on the Nox and in one scoop there was Jose’s ring in the scoop.  Had I only gone one more grid line the previous day I probably would have found it.  I immediately sent an email but to my surprise Jose & Ana had already flown back to Cost Rica as they hadn’t responded until a few days later.  Thankfully, Ana’s Aunt in San Francisco was going to visit them in Costa Rica that following weekend and if I got the ring by Express Mail to her she would personally deliver it to Jose when she arrived in Costa Rica.  Got the best “Shaka” pic I’ve seen in a long time.  Look at those smiles!  Aloha to Jose & Ana Lucia!

Lost and found cellphone in Brighton Ontario

  • from Cobourg (Ontario, Canada)

I was contacted through Facebook when Sage lost her cellphone at a parking lot near a conservation area in Brighton. The bad news is that she had lost it over a week ago. After exchanging information and Google earth pictures, I headed over and was able to locate her phone in about six inches of snow. The good news, although the screen was cracked, the phone was still working. Even better, within the case of the phone, was her driver’s licence and various credit cards. She was very happy and grateful to be reunited with her phone and cards. Another happy ending.
