Ring Lost in Hollywood, Ca…Found and Joyously Returned.

I received a call from Jane today about a lost ring. She had been in her backyard throwing a ball to her dog, when making a throw her late husband’s ring that she wore daily, flew from her finger, and was gone. I asked a few questions, and we arranged to meet later in the afternoon to do the search.

When I got to Jane’s house, she took me to the backyard, and we talked about the loss. I asked her to reenact the throw, and then began a search in the direction of where the ball had flown. I went over the grass, checked all the flower pots, checked and shook all the bushes, under the bushes, and out to the fence; no ring. I then went over the yard once more to insure I had covered all areas, no ring. I asked if she had a ladder, and checked up on the garage roof, no ring. Jane had resolved to find the ring whenever it showed up, but I really wanted to know why we were not able to find it, so we went back behind where she had been standing, and looked on her gravel patio. I told her a story about how rings are not usually where you think they are, so we began to look around the patio. I just got finished saying that if it was here, that it would be in plain sight. I turned right looked down on the gravel, and there it was. I let out a whoop letting her know I had found it. It had come off of her left hand, and flown  15 behind and to her right about another 10 feet; amazing! Jane was so happy! This ring is something she wears to keep her husbands memory close to her all the time.

Lost Ring in sand at Newport Beach by visiting couple

Sunday night, I hit the beach about 4:30 and decided to just do Dry Sand hunting. After finding a Silver then Gold ring in an hour, I figured I would head back to the car. A lifeguard pulls up and asks if I found any rings and I said yes!  He pointed several hundred yards back on the beach by the boardwalk to a couple that he said the woman had lost her ring and borrowed their “loaner” detector with no success.

He had told them about TheRingFinders.com, and I told him I was a RingFinder and would go to see if I could help.
Suzie and Dan explained she had lost her special Arthritis ring in the Volleyball Court and had tried but could not find it.
I said I would search, so I took my NOX800 with 15″ Coil and started gridding….  After about an hour with no luck, they were packing up and so I gave them my business card, and he said he would call to see if I found it. They left and I decided to shift into Beach2 Mode and grid the other direction to see if I may have missed it in Beach1 Mode.

After another 20 Minutes I had a strange signal, and since was digging everything that beeped, scooped up her ring!  Very strange signal for 14K, and Beach1 Mode was even sketchier. I think due to the shape of it?

They texted me the next morning, as they were heading to the airport back to Nevada, and I sent them a photo of the ring!  They called and were very happy to know I had it safe and sound, and would contact me that night when they were home to give me information on shipping it back to them.

After finding Silver and Gold that afternoon in a short period, I was glad I could help reunite them with their ring and I learned about a new type of ring for Arthritis hands (never seen one like it before), and a bit more about my detector as well.

All in all, a great day!

14K Gold Family Heirloom Wedding Band Lost at Oak Island, NC, Found and Returned

I got an email around 9:30 pm Sunday night from George saying that he had lost his gold wedding ring that had originally belonged to his grandfather. His email also stated that he had placed the ring into a zipped pocket of a beach bag on Friday, but didn’t discover the ring was missing until he and his wife, Jen, started packing up to leave on Monday morning. As Jen was packing the beach bag, George remembered his ring was in there and told Jen. Jen checked the bag, didn’t find the ring but did discover a hole in the pocket the ring was suppose to be in. He was wondering if I could meet them tomorrow, before they left to see if I could find it. Unfortunately, I’ve got to go out of town the next morning for a day trip so I wouldn’t be able to make it. I called him, letting him know I couldn’t make it tomorrow, but I could make it tonight. He agreed, gave me the rental house address and I hit the road for the hour drive to Oak Island.

When I arrived, both Jen and George were sitting on the front stoop of the house waiting for me. I got a few more details from Jen and George, and George and I crossed the street to the beach access. Once there, George pointed out the area they had been sitting at over the course of the last 3 days. I started doing a grid line parallel to the surf. I was on my 6th or 7th line when I got a strong signal showing up as a VDI of 18 and I knew it had to be his gold ring. Dug a scoop of sand, dumped it on the beach, and spread it out with my foot. Ran the coil over the sand and saw the outline of his ring at the same time my Equinox rang out. I reached down and picked up his ring, turned towards George and held my arm out. I had my headlamp on and saw the expression on his face like, there is no way he’s holding my ring. He seemed hesitant to come see what I was holding and when I handed him his ring he was completely overwhelmed. Think we both dropped a tear or two. We left the beach and were going to surprise Jen, but George couldn’t contain his enthusiasm. At some point after we found his ring, he made a comment that he was sure it was lost forever.

George and Jen, Thank you for trusting me to help find your lost treasure. I’m sure the ring has a very long history and story attached to it, and now that story can continue with just a little added anxiety thrown in.

IPhone lost at Ocean Isle Beach NC, Found and Returned

Jessica called me a little before 9 am asking if I rented metal detectors. I informed her that I don’t, but I use metal detectors to help find things for people. She asked if I could find an iPhone she lost in the dry sand. We went back and forth with a few questions and answers, ending with me telling her I’d be there in about 45 minutes.

She gave me the address where she and her family were staying. When I pulled into the driveway she came out of the house with her friend, Maria and said to follow her to the beach access. Once we got on the beach, she said that she had left it on the beach the night before and had tracked it to a general area of where she had been. The area was roughly 20ft by 20ft, and thank goodness it was all dry sand. I started a grid search from the dry sand to the high tide line. On the fourth line I got a good signal, and the numbers were all over the place on the Equinox 800, so I knew I had found her phone. I used my foot to spread out the sand and uncovered part of the phone, and reached down and picked it up. She couldn’t believe it was found, thanks to her putting me in the right area, it made for a quick and easy search. When we found it, it had no power, so when she got back in her car and plugged it in, it started charging up. Thankfully, there seemed to be no damage.

This client lost her ring while tossing a football with friends. After gathering some info, I met up with the client and her friends this evening. Literially, 10 minutes later, the ring was in the scoop.

The client explained that at some point this evening she believed that she may have dropped her ring in the sand while at the beach with her brother whom was taking aerial photos of the sunset. The client realized the ring was gone while at dinner so the area it was lost was potentially anywhere between her home, the beach, and the diner (several miles total). After meeting up we took a ride down and the client approximated the search area. After 15-20 minutes the ring was back on the clients finger, much to her relief.

Clients review of service: “This evening I attempted to enjoy the sunset at the cove in Cape May. As I was leaving I realized my $6000.00 wedding ring fell off. I was so upset obviously and was referred to Jeff Laag to help with the recovery. Jeff answered my call immediately and was at my house in no time. A memorable Memorial Day when lost ring is found in Maryland

I received a voice mail from Matt saying his wife lost her wedding ring in their yard. After trying a cheap detector from a local store and searching their yard on their hands and knees, they began looking for detecting services on the web. They found me on Ring Finders and I was able to travel and search the following day. I began searching with my Garrett ATPRo and got a great signal after about 5 min. I was able to pinpoint the ring which was deep in thick grass. They were so excited I found it and apologized that I had to drive an hour and a half for five min. of searching. I am just glad I could make their day and see the smile on their faces. This is why I am a part of Ring Finders.

Julie called me an hour after losing her ring at Long Beach, CA. I only asked her if the ring was lost in the dry sand or wet sand and to text me the nearest address. 

When we met on the beach she was with John at an unoccupied lifeguard tower. She told me that they had climbed up the steps on the tower to the platform. When she got to the top, she brushed some sand off her leg and the ring flew off her finger. Both Julie and John heard the ring hit the deck but could not determine the direction it went.

I was a little overconfident that it would be a quick recovery. My first obstacle was many metal trash targets. My first grid of the small area was a rapid scan listening for a low gold tone. Next grid of scan was slow digging and removing every metal target. ”No Ring”. I knew that it was possible for the ring to be hiding close to the metal legs of the lifeguard tower but I was holding off on searching near the metal legs till later. 

Before getting on my hands and knees to use my handheld pinpointer. I used my sand scoop to move sand away from the metal legs where my detector had a chance to find a ring without being masked by the metal support legs. 

After one hour, the third grid of the area was successful. The ring was found within 18” of the metal tower supports. I’m sure that I moved it out far enough for the detector to separate it from the larger metal. Although it is possible that I may have just missed it the first times, the main thing is the ring was recovered. It always rewarding to see how happy John and Julie were to have the ring back. It was very sentimental to both of them.

I got a call from a very distressed father his daughter lost 2 gold/diamond wedding bands. I spoke to the daughter and after learning the situation. arrived at about 0900 . we went by boat to the location where the ring was lost I found both rings within an hour. the whole family was very happy to say the least . It was a excellent experience.

Wedding Band Lost in Manhattan Beach, CA Yard…Found and Happily Returned.

Eric called today about his wedding band he had lost in his backyard over the Memorial weekend, during a grilling session. He went to wipe his hands off in the grass, when while swiping them his ring went flying. He and his family searched for a couple of hours without any luck. After a few questions, I agreed to do the search. He was going to be at work, so we arranged to have me meet with his wife Anna at the house later in the day.

When I arrived, Anna met me at the backyard gate, and took me back to the site of the loss. She showed me approximately what happened. From what it looked like, the ring should not have gone far, but having done these searches over the years, I have found that these rings sometimes go in the least expected of places. I searched the area where I expected the ring would have gone first, no luck. I then began a search over all the rest of the yard, and on the last pass, all the way on the other side of the yard, further back than it should have been, I found Eric’s ring. Rings are kind of like weird people; they just do their own thing. It was a pure pleasure to be able to hand Anna her husband’s ring, that they thought was lost for good. Truly a great day!

You are a great guy with a great calling in life! My lost ring in my backyard was probably a run-of-the-mill search and find for you, but I had been wearing it for over 20 years. I had been doing yard work the previous day and within minutes of it falling off my finger (still don’t know how it happened), I realized my finger was bare. But me finding you was a bigger part of the story. We looked for it all evening until it got too dark. The next day, I had to go to work. I told my co-workers that I had lost my ring the previous day, and the general consensus was that I would need to buy a replacement. I’m surrounded by co-workers wearing replacements.
