How to Find a Lost Ring in Snow…Bel Air, Maryland

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Alexandra’s Sterling Silver Promise Ring that Tommy Blessed His Love With Just Two Weeks Before the Jewel Was Plowed Away With the Snow 100 Yards Down the Parking Lot!

Alexandra Beyond Excited for the Recovery of Her Beautiful Promise Ring!

Brian Rudolph, Lost Item Recovery Specialist (Land, Water, Sand, Snow, Leaves, Houses & Vehicles) Will Find Your Lost Keepsake! Call ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received a call from a young lady named Alexandra who was really upset about the loss of her 925 sterling silver promise ring with CZ diamond stones. She had just received the beautiful “symbol of love“ from her boyfriend Tommy just weeks before the diamond covered band went missing somewhere in Alexandra’s work parking lot.

The story goes like this: Alexandra was employed at a car dealership. On her break, she went outside to the auto service parking lot during the beginning of a winter snowstorm. Alexandra wrote a little love note for her sweetheart in the snow and then took a photo of it so she could text it to her boyfriend Tommy. She returned inside and 10 minutes later she noticed that her ring was no longer on her finger. Immediately, she realized that she must have lost it outside when she was using her finger to write in the snow. Alexandra ran back outside and sadly she saw a snow plow truck hauling a “load of white” down the parking lot and dumping the contents wherever there were empty parking spaces along the way. It returned over and over again to pick up more snow and dispense the new loads as far as a hundred yards away from the main building! Desperately, she searched with faded hope that her friendship ring might still be hidden beneath the ice that remained on the black top. To no avail, Alexandra returned inside of the car dealership office without her sentimental piece of jewelry. Tommy’s girlfriend was crushed.

During the rest of Alexandra’s time at work, she looked online for an answer to her problem regarding how she could possibly recover her cherished lost keepsake. Eventually, she came across the elite international metal detectorist called THE RING FINDERS. After looking up the closest metal detecting service in the Bel Air, Maryland area, Alexandra contacted me, Brian Rudolph. She shared the backstory with me as to what took place and I quickly made plans to visit the search site later that night.

My client was extremely grateful that I was able to come out to the dealership that evening at such short notice. I knew how important it was to scan the lot that night. No one could be sure if the precious jewel was still somewhere in the middle of the parking lot under the snow or if it had already been concealed by feet of ice that was plowed away earlier that day.

As soon as I arrived (around 8:30pm), I met Alexandra and her boyfriend Tommy and then I was immediately shown where the young lady wrote her love note to Tommy in the snow. Then, I retrieved my metal detector and other night gear (including my high linens headlamp) from my vehicle and began the search. I checked out all of the key areas that we had talked about as being prime spots where the ring could have ended up. However, after searching every possible section of the lot, no ring was found except several dropped key rings from the dealership’s service department.

I detected not only the center areas of the black top (which was all covered with snow), but I also searched along the sides of the parking spaces where the plow pushed various “piles of white” into more shallow bunches. Still, I could not find the ring anywhere. Sometime around 11:30pm it was time to call it quits for the night.

I told the couple that it appeared that the ring most likely was pushed farther away into the larger piles of snow which would require some melting, as well as the use of shovels to cut through some of the remaining packed ice. I planned to return for another round of searching in the next week.

Almost every day that followed my initial visit to the dealership, I called Alexandra to get a report on how much snow had melted since the day before. It took longer than we thought for the thawing to really take effect, but after almost a week of waiting, I felt it was time to return to the site and continue the search process. This time around I brought hard core shovels that I use for cutting plugs in the earth when metal detecting buried items. Alexandra and Tommy met up with me once again and this time we began by chopping up as much snow as we could in order for me to metal detect all the way through the solid ice bergs!

I detected every possible location as far away as the very end of the parking lot – over a hundred yards from where Alexandra’s ring presumably slipped off her finger in the frigid outside temperatures. Unfortunately again, the promise ring was still missing in action. After another 3 hours of shoveling, cutting and detecting, there was little left for me to do that day. I would have to return a third time once the giant piles of remaining snow had melted even more.

I assured the couple that it was just a matter of time before the snow would melt enough to either allow for me to detect the final foot or so of snow (there were piles that were up to five feet high) or the ring would finally reveal itself on top of one of the bergs after a couple of warm and sunny days move through the Bel Air area. Since Alexandra worked right near where we hoped the ring was still hiding, I encouraged the young lady to continue visiting the snow piles and carefully look at the top of each mound to see if the jewel might one day peek its beautiful halo out of one of those “natural freezers”.

Well, as it turned out, during the next week, Alexandra would give me continuous updates as to how the snow was melting in three key piles out on the parking lot. I was ready and willing to travel the hour long drive to resume the detecting but the snow was still way too high to make the trip worthwhile. Therefore, I told Alexandra over and over again to continue walking to the piles and carefully inspect to see if the ring made its appearance through all of the ice. Each time she checked there was still nothing positive to report back to me.

After a couple more days had passed, a break in this case finally came to Bel Air! An unusual warm front made its way through Maryland and I knew that with some extreme melting that would soon take place, our chances of eyeballing the ring or successfully detecting the special keepsake was most likely going to happen! And it did!

Look Carefully and You Will See the Ring!

At Last Alexandra’s Lost Promise Ring Reappears from Beneath the Snow Plowed Mountain of Ice!

Early one the morning, just hours before I was going to be making my third trip to the search site, I received a call from Alexandra. She found her precious promise ring! I was beyond elated for her! It turned out that Alexandra did her 100 yard routine walk down to the end of the long dealership’s parking lot to look over the snow plowed piles once again. As she scanned the 3 foot mountain of ice, there it was – Alexandra’s very special love gift from Tommy! She saw it right there on the very top of the icy plateau, so patiently waiting to be discovered!

The young lady was so very excited! Over and over again Alexandra kept saying, “You were right! You were right! I still can’t believe it! Brian, you said to keep giving it time and it will eventually be found! You never thought someone had picked it up, and you really believed it was still buried in one of these huge piles!” I smiled brilliantly on the other end of the phone as I responded with a bashful acknowledgment of thanks to the young ring finder! I was so very happy for her!

The nightmare was finally over! It took nearly 2 weeks to successfully close this case, but it sure was worth waiting for such elation and jubilation from my dear client Alexandra!

Ring Lost in Surf. Found after 3 Weeks, a Cyclone and Tsunami !

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)

Ring Finder – Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost ring? Lost necklace? Lost keys?… Metal Detector Service – Call ASAP 021 401626

Three weeks ago, Ray was on Tokerau Beach in Doubtless Bay engaging in that iconic Kiwi summer pursuit, digging in the sand for Tuatuas.
Regrettably, his sentimental gold and diamond ring did what so many other lost rings have also done while gathering these tasty shellfish, it slipped from his finger into the sand, and vanished.
A week later he left me a phone message asking if I was able to assist in finding his lost ring.

I arranged to meet him the coming weekend and see if I could get his ring back to him.

That’s when nature intervened with a double whammy in the form of Cyclone Cody pumping waves up to 5+m onto the coast.
Then one from left-field, the eruption of Hunga-Tonga (which I heard in New Zealand, some 2,400km away!) which sent tsunami surges out across the entire Pacific.
….I decided to reschedule the ring recovery for the following weekend!
There was real potential for substantial sand movement with these combined events, but my safety always comes first.

The appointed morning arrived and I thanked Ray for making the effort to meet me on site at dawn in order to catch the low tide. As he referred to photos taken on the day to sort out where he had been, I got kitted up to get wet.

I set up a ‘beat’ of around 60m width to try and allow for any positional errors in Rays recollection, and waded out into the break.

While the sea was calm for this surf beach, the storm had brought in tonnes of loose weed which instantly wrapped around the detector adding massive drag. It wasn’t practical to keep lifting the coil out of the water every few seconds to shake it off so I had to put up with it. It felt like I was mopping the ocean floor and had to change arms every few minutes.
Added entertainment was the water being infested by loads of Eagle Rays feeding on the Tuatuas in the turbid water. When I got too close, or accidentally clipped them with the coil, they would take off through the wash like jet fighters. I love these guys, but having to do the ‘Stingray Shuffle’ through the weed was really fatiguing…

I had completed about three or four sweeps across the search area when the detector sounded off on a faint target, there had been no trash for once, so in my mind this was going to be the ring.
The hole went deeper and deeper, only to reveal an old lead fishing weight! I shook a basketball sized lump of weed off the coil and continued on, disappointed.
15 minutes later, another quiet tone in the headphones could be heard over the waves and wind.
Quiet, but crisp.
The scoop went in, missed it, another bite went deep into the bottom of the hole – Check and the sand was quiet. Whatever it was was in the scoop.
I shook the sand and shell out through the scoop when I heard that familiar clatter of a ring.
I secured it and slogged ashore through the weed and rays.

The sequence of reactions, I have seen many times.
Initially resignation in their eyes as they saw me walking up the beach after apparently giving up, changing to disbelief when I removed the ring from inside my glove – then amazement that the ring had actually been found, and was back on Rays finger.

Some detectorists collect rings, I prefer to collect smiles 🙂

Lost Ring Downtown Pensacola – Found Months Later!!!

  • from Orange Beach (Alabama, United States)

This was a cool story. Sally and her husband came over from MS back around Thanksgiving and spent some time enjoying Pensacola in an AirBnB. While here, she lost her engagement ring and it has bothered her ever since. She had contacted the establishments she went to and no one had turned in a missing ring. The only place she didn’t have closure with was sitting outside the Airstream trailer that was their BnB. She ended up posting on Pensacola Lost and Found and a nice lady named Melissa politely insisted she contact me if she wanted to find it. Thanks Melissa because that’s where I came in. Sally and I spoke and I asked a ton of questions. I really thought it was going to be tough because of the time passed and the fact that the BnB had seen 40 guests since then. I still thought it would be good to try so I contacted the owner (Sally was still in MS) and made plans to come by. When I got to the Airstream I started to worry. A lot of people don’t realize but a metal detector reads up and down and a little sideways. So when I started checking the area, the sheer volume of metal with the trailer, the metal fence, the metal side building, the metal fire pit, a sundial, multiple bicycles and so on and so on made my machine go crazy. I started problem solving and grabbed some of my other equipment and used some tricks I know to let me look around. I ended up getting a gold signal on the complete other side of the yard where Sally thought it might be. Lo and behold I did a little digging and out popped Sally’s ring a couple of months after it had been dropped in another state. I mailed it back to Sally and as you can see we have started off 2022 with a happy return. Thanks for trusting me to find such a precious ring. 💍👍

Found my 3rd gold ring today as I received another call to find a lost ring in the snow!
Funny story here. Her husband thought this was a “SILVER” ring! Turns out it was actually 14k gold! I spent the first few mins looking for a silver ring. When she called her husband to check the car she said she had the other ring in her pocket. I asked to see that ring, scanned it over my coil and I told her it’s gold not silver. Then I made the adjustments and BOOM VDI 46 and her ring was found!
She said, she will NEVER let her husband live this one down for not know what metal he bought her. lol!!!
So glad I could help her find her ring again! I love what I do!

Key Fob(s) Lost in Whangarei Paddock – Ring Finders to the Rescue

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)

Ring Finder – Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost ring? Lost necklace? Lost keys?… Metal Detector Service – Call ASAP 021 401626

Barge Park Showgrounds in Whangarei is a popular location for exercising dogs with a large off leash area, and where Holly had taken her dog for a run around yesterday.
After some time, and a considerable area of knee high weeds – her car fob was missing.
Not just her keys though, but her partners spare key fob for his truck as well…
After searching for some time, she reached out to me for help.

I met Holly at Barge Park this morning and asked her to describe how/when she thought she had lost them.
As she recounted the events the SAR tracker in me was assessing the various stories being told in the tracks through the grass and weeds.
Well, RingFinders is a form of Search and Rescue 🙂

I could see someone, probably Holly yesterday, had walked in that direction, then apparently randomly turned and headed over there…Possibly the meanderings of someone looking for something? The fresh growth displaced under a foot fall and held under tension, springing back when released telling me it was recent, the lay of the grass showing me direction of travel. Erratic flattened areas in a short line possibly a from dog bounding around? Over there, a quad bike had travelled up the side of the search area before someone had later crossed it’s tracks.
Many events written temporarily in the grass helping to build a story of where people had gone, one of whom had dropped some keys…
And importantly where they had NOT gone, allowing me to discount large areas that were devoid of human tracks making the potentially large and uncertain search area so much smaller.

Starting the grid in the area of highest probability, I opted to run the machine ‘hot’ in order to be able to sweep over the top of the weeds, stopping occasionally to jab the pinpointer into the grass to discount a target as being subsurface. After a while it became clear there was a LOT of loud metallic targets, probably horseshoes etc but I couldn’t afford to discriminate it out without the risk of partially masking the keys.

On the third run I got a ‘kick’ in the threshold tone, looked down, and tucked under the matted grass thatch was a flash of silver.
Job done.
What could have taken many hours, reduced to 20 minutes.
Tracking used for a different sort of Search and Rescue 🙂

Men’s Tungsten Wedding Band Lost in the Driveway…FOUND Bessemer, Alabama!

  • from Huntsville (Alabama, United States)

On Tuesday afternoon (January 18th, 2022), I was driving on I-65 north traveling home to Huntsville, Alabama.  I had just finished a nice long weekend getaway at Panama City Beach, Florida.  I was visiting my parents at a condo they were renting and went metal detecting with my dad.

I was towards the end of my 6-hour trip back and had just passed the Birmingham area when I received a text message from Daniel.  I had my car read the message and discovered that Daniel had lost his Tungsten wedding band somewhere in his gravel driveway in Bessemer, AL.  Perfect timing!  I was literally 40 minutes from his location and had all of my metal detecting gear in my car.  Had I been in Huntsville, it would’ve added an extra hour to my travel time.  I immediately called Daniel, told him where I was, and asked if I could reroute to his location.  He said absolutely!  I got off at the next exit, back on I-65 (but now in the southbound lane), and was on my way to Bessemer!

I met Daniel at the end of his driveway.  I didn’t want to pull in too far depending on where he lost his wedding band.  Daniel had been working outside all morning.  He explained that his driveway floods a lot and he was adding gravel to stop some of the flow until a permanent fix could be put in.  He also cut up a tree.  He wore gloves the entire time and knew he had his ring on, because he felt it vibrating on his finger when he was running the chainsaw.  After finishing up that work, he took off his gloves while sitting in his truck.  He got out and soon after noticed that his wedding band was missing.  Daniel also mentioned that he recently lost a lot of weight, and the ring was fitting very loose.  Plus, it was cold outside and his hands were wet, so perfect scenario for a ring to slid off.

I started searching where Daniel was laying the gravel in his driveway.  I found a penny and some junk metal.  There were a couple of iffy signals in about 6-12 inches of water.  If necessary, I was going to come back at the very end of the search and check those targets with my sand scoop.  I moved to the next location where Daniel was cutting up the tree.  No ring.  I then asked to search Daniel’s gloves and truck, because taking off the gloves would’ve been the most likely time that his ring would’ve come off.  Still no ring.

I asked Daniel where he was parked when he took his gloves off and got out of his truck.  I thought his wedding band might have landed in his lap and then rolled onto the ground when he got out.  I started searching that area.  I checked one signal with my pinpointer, but the target was beneath the surface.  As I was standing up, I caught a glimpse of his silver Tungsten ring just a few inches away!  I think I uncovered it when I swung my coil and knocked away some wet grass and leaves.  I told Daniel that I had just spotted it.  He caught a glimpse as well and was overcome with joy and relief!  He was also very thankful for my assistance and quick response time.  I have to say that these recoveries never get old, and they are the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done!

Daniel showed me a video of how bad his driveway floods.  Based on that video, his ring could’ve easily washed away if it wasn’t found that day, making for an extremely difficult recovery.  But I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.  God is so good!  I thank and praise Him for another successful ring recovery and safe trip home!  I’m always happy to help and very blessed to be a member of The Ring Finders!  Looking forward to the next adventure…

Lost White Gold & Diamonds Engagement Ring at Ulua Lagoon Beach Ko Olina… FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This Ring Find began when I got a text from Emily from Ewa Beach last evening who earlier that day lost her Wedding & Engagement Rings at Ulua Lagoon Beach. Her Father In Law shook out a beach chair of the sand and unbeknownst to him the rings were in a cup holder on the chair. They found the Wedding Ring but not the Engagement Ring that was somewhere in the dry sand they hoped. Since it was late and I was going to Ko Olina the next morning we agreed to meet at 7AM. When I arrived Emily and her husband Dan were already on the beach. They showed me the approximate area to search and I fired up the Nox. I started on the high side of the beach and worked towards the water. There were a few coins and a pull tab. I was on the last leg of the grid and looked towards Dan & Emily thinking its not here when I got a strong #9 tone on the Nox. In one scoop I saw Emily’s beautiful ring in the scoop. I looked toward Emily and shook my head Yes and she burst into tears. Dan comforted her of course as she reached into the scoop for her ring. “Dramatic Return!” They both were so very grateful and I said, “Did you have to put me on the final leg of the search to find the ring.” We assumed when the beach chair was shaken to remove the sand the ring must have gotten flung out. No matter the recovery was successful. Aloha to Emily & Dan!

Mike was playing football with his son in a nearby park as it was getting dark. As he snapped the ball to his son for a punt, he felt his loose tungsten wedding band fly off of his finger into the grass. Mike and his son searched for a while but they were unable to locate the ring. As Mike is a neighbor of mine and his wife Julie reminded him of the service I provide, he drove his golf cart to my house and told me what happened. We returned to the park and searched for about an hour after dark with no luck. I returned early the next morning and gradually extended the search area but was again unable to locate the band. I had a beach hunt scheduled with a detecting buddy of mine Jim Facinelli later that morning so Jim and I returned to the park early in the afternoon to search for the ring again. After about 45 minutes, I found a ring in the grass but it was a stainless steel spinner ring rather than Mike’s tungsten band. Five minutes later and within 10 feet of the first ring I located the band as Jim was close to detecting it himself!

Mike, thank you for trusting me to find your wedding band and Jim, thank you for your assistance in the search!

Lost White Gold and Diamonds Wedding Ring at Kaimana Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a text from Talaya who lives in my neighborhood Kaimuki. While hanging out at Kaimana Beach Sunday with her husband and daughter, Talaya took off her ring to apply sunscreen and set it on a beach chair. She got distracted at the beach and didn’t discover her ring missing until later that day while teaching a work out class. While doing a push up and looking at her hand she gasped, “Where’s my ring?” They retraced her steps back to Kaimana Beach and her husband even sifted sand in hopes of finding the ring. Talaya’s friend told her about ring finders and that’s how she found me. My heart sunk when she told me the ring was lost two days ago. Kaimana Beach is a favorite among local detectorists and I feared the ring would have been found already. I told her I’d take a look after my Dentist appointment. When I arrived around 1PM I was able to find parking and thankfully the area Talaya marked out for me on Google maps was more or less void of sunbathers. I told the lifeguard what I was doing and fired up the Nox. The first target was a loud #10 on the Nox and in one scoop their was the glistening diamond ring in the scoop. Talaya told me the ring was Platinum in her text but this ring said 14K but had the Jewel on the inside she mentioned. I texted her a pic of the ring with the word, “Blessed”, and the response was, “Thank you so much. I am crying.” Suddenly my dental pains went away. Aloha to Talaya!
