Man’s Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

A little after 10 p.m. on Friday, I received a call from Murali saying he had lost his gold wedding band and wondered if I could help find it. I asked him for the details and he stated he was cleaning the sand off his son and felt the ring slide off his finger. I asked him his location and he told me he was at 75th Ave in North Myrtle Beach. We figured out he was actually in Myrtle Beach, so I needed to call Matt Fry, the TRF for Myrtle Beach. Since it was late, I figured Matt was already down for the night, but I called anyway. I didn’t get an answer from Matt so I called Murali back and told him I’d be there in 20 minutes. I grabbed my Equinox 800 and was on my way.

When I got to the beach I called him and told him I was there. It was dark but luckily he had a flashlight and started signaling me. We met and he showed me the area he thought the ring came off. He also had marked the area he cleaned his son up but was sure the ring wasn’t in that area. I made two grid lines across the area he had marked off with no signals. Since I was next to the area where he cleaned his son, I thought I’d go ahead and clear that area. BOOM! I got a 13/14 on the VDI, which is either a thin gold ring, or a pull tab. In this case it was his wedding band. I dug a scoop of sand, shook the sand out and saw his ring. I held the scoop up and let him remove his ring. He was extremely surprised as well as overwhelmed with happiness.

Lost Ring in the yard – FOUND!!!

This was one of my favorite recoveries. Not just because of the unique story but because of the great people involved. I got a call from Marilynn and I could hear her husband David talking in the background. Marilynn began to explain their story and David quickly took the phone. I knew it was going to be an interesting one when David said, “Man, I’m just embarrassed to tell you this”. It turns out that David has been metal detecting for years and the day before he was trying to pass on the love for the hobby. He was having a friend over to check out a detector and David decided to go out in the yard before his buddy got there and plant his very large, solid gold antique wedding band in front of the trash can so he’d know right where it was. Shortly thereafter his friend was finding some pennies and some other bits of metal but he never found David’s ring. Finally David had to spoil the surprise and he told his friend to go over by the trash can and see what he could find. When he still didn’t find it, David took his detector back to find it himself. You can imagine his surprise when he couldn’t find it either and he now had lost his own planted wedding band in the yard. 😳. They ended up trying a second detector and then ultimately spent the rest of the day completely digging up the grass and dirt from about a 5x5’ section of the yard. The next morning, David remembered a friend of his that also detected and thought that maybe he would have some higher grade detectors and got him to come over. Well he did bring two very good machines over but you guessed it, they weren’t able to find it. That’s when they searched the internet and found me. I was intrigued with the story and ended up actually knowing the guy who had gone that morning. I got some info about his settings, etc. from him and told him that now I wanted to find it just so I could good naturedly give him a hard time if I was able to find it. 😃 When I got there, the yard was exactly as described and there was a 5x5’ section in the grass that was torn to pieces down into the dirt. David and Marilynn obviously wanted this ring back. I won’t bore you with too many details but I used a very advanced machine with 2 different coils and we dug up some very deep bits of copper pipe but no ring. All the while, David was adamant that he had placed it right there. I completely believed him but my wife always has a saying that “if they knew where it was, they wouldn’t need me.”  Wise woman!  So I started telling David stories about all the crazy places I had recovered rings for people. We hit it off as we continued to very slowly search that small area. Finally I told David that I totally believed that he had planted the ring there but would he please trust me and let me walk down the yard a bit. He told me I could and I didn’t go another 5 feet before I got a buried tone a few inches deep. He dropped down and popped it out and it was an old penny. I told him that with the size of his ring, that was the sound I wanted to hear. As I stood up I rescanned the spot and right beside it was another tone but only about 2 inches down. David said that we might as well pop out the other penny just to get it out of the way. When his beautiful antique ring came out of the ground he was absolutely thrilled while at the same time perplexed how it got over there. I told him that sometimes it just takes another perspective and that I thought he may have accidentally thrown it over there with a shovel the previous day and that either himself, his wife or the two other metal detectorists could have pressed it into the ground with a boot while they were focused on the other area. Either way, David and Marilynn were beyond thrilled to get it back. David said that my reputation had been on the line but that he was amazed. 😃 Im so glad I was able to help y’all out. No more planting family heirlooms in the yard!  LOL

*** Corliss called just after her husband, Jasper dropped his gold wedding ring in the sand. They had spent the day at Crystal Cove State Beach. Just before packing up to leave, Jasper went to brush sand off his swim suit when his ring flew into the sand. They realized it was going to be a miracle if they could locate it by using their hands. 

While Jasper struggled dragging his fingers trough the sand, Corliss got on her mobile device goggle searching metal detector. She found me on TheRingFinders site. I was able to convince them to stay at the location so I could meet them there in 30 or 40 minutes. 

I arrived and walked about 4 blocks to the location. Within a very short time the ring was found using my metal detector. “ The right tool for the job”.. They were very happy to have the ring recovered and they could get off the beach to an event that evening. 

It was less than a five mile drive and I have a state parks annual parking pass which made it easy for me to be on the beach on time. The search was easy with the proper equipment and a little experience.

I received a call from Nancy who asked if could help her in finding a lost ring. I asked a few questions about the loss wherein she explained that it was lost 6 weeks prior, and possibly in a public place. I began to feel that the search might be futile because of the elapsed time involved, and then she told me the circumstances. She had just buried her husband of 47 years, and was wearing his ring, when sometime in the next few days the ring came up missing. She had checked the house, so the next possibilities would be the school yard where she was watching a soccer game, or in the front yard garden bordering the street that was lined with gravel. I felt that Nancy needed closure, and that searching those areas for her would provide that. We arranged a day to do the search, and I was on my way.

When I arrived at Nancy’s house, I saw the gravel bed. It was right next to the street where everyone walked, and any ring would have laid on top of the gravel, and would have been easily seen. I went over the whole area with the detector just in case we missed something with no results. Before we could search the soccer field we had to wait for school to get out which would take another 1 1/2 hours. I told Nancy that would not be a problem. She then said that her son had said that she should check the Christmas decoration boxes because she had also put them away right after the funeral. So she opened her shed, got up on a ladder, and handed down all the boxes that were put away that day. After she had gotten them all out, I proceeded to remove the contents of each box, and search everything and the box. Then I would hand each box back to her for replacement back in the shed. I got to the last box with 3 wreaths in it, and removed each one inspecting it carefully, and then when I removed the last wreath, there in the bottom of the box was the ring. I reached in and held it up for her. She jumped off of the ladder, and ran right over so excited that this precious item had been found. I felt so much joy for her, as I could see what a toll the last 6 weeks had taken on her. Sometimes those rings are not where you expect them to be.

Lost Ring West Hartford Connecticut… Found!

An heirloom ring was lost while gardening! In the spring of 2020, Caroline remembers putting on her heirloom ring as she does every morning. This day was different because she would not get the opportunity to take her rings off at the end of the day. Caroline tore apart her house, searching high and low. The only place left to search was the flower gardens in the front yard where she enjoys spending her time. She pondered the possibility that her ring was lost while gardening for years.

Her home’s pending sale made her get creative in finally taking her search for the lost rings outdoors. Caroline joined a Facebook metal detecting group with over 50,000 members in hopes of getting someone to come to search her gardens. I came recommended by the group members so Caroline sent me a message. We scheduled her search for the rings on the day before the house closing. After 4 long hours of searching for the lost rings, I found 1 of them! The heirloom ring was beautiful 18k gold with a row of 14 diamonds. I rinsed the ring off and brushed the dirt from the crevices. You would never guess this heirloom ring was lost in the dirt for 2 years!

I received a call from Bryan’s mother Mary Alice who found me on my website RING FINDERS SOUTH JERSEY .

Then Bryan called me and explained how and the general area where he lost his gold wedding band. He was at the Tulip Festival

at Dalton Farms in Swedesboro, NJ.  We met up shortly after the call and within a half hour the ring was found and back on his finger!

Lost Tungsten Ring…FOUND by Member of The Ring Finders in McMinnville, Tennessee!

I received a text message from Rachel on Thursday evening (April 7th, 2022) stating that her boyfriend, Tyler, lost his Tungsten Carbide promise ring in February while they were rock crawling on a trail in McMinnville, Tennessee.  McMinnville is about a 2-hour drive from me (Huntsville, Alabama).  I told Rachel that I would be more than happy to help, but I wouldn’t be able to make it out until Saturday or Sunday when I was off from work.  Sunday actually turned out to be a beautiful day, so we scheduled the search for Sunday morning.

I arrived at their home in McMinnville, TN on Sunday morning (April 10th, 2022) around 10am.  I transferred my gear over to Rachel’s vehicle.  We needed to go through some thick grass and over rocks in order to make it out to the spot that Tyler lost his ring at.  We headed out and arrived at the base of the trail about 15 minutes later.  We parked at the base, because we didn’t want to drive over the ring.  I grabbed my Minelab Equinox 800 metal detector from Rachel’s vehicle and we started making our way up the steep trail.  It was about a 10-minute walk up to the spot where Tyler thought he lost his ring.  The Tungsten ring was actually thrown during an argument.  This happens way more than people think.  People have disagreements and sometimes rings go flying.  It’s always important that I know exactly what happened in order for a successful ring recovery.

Both Rachel and Tyler said that they heard a ping, so we knew that the ring probably hit a rock.  We were just hoping that it didn’t take a weird bounce.  The main part of the trail was easy to search.  The right side was very steep, so I didn’t think that it bounced up that far.  The left side was rocky, and I planned to search that last if I didn’t find the ring in the main trail area.  Tyler showed me where he was standing when he threw the ring.  He threw it down the trail, so I started at the top section.  I marked that spot with a few cones and started my grid search heading down the trail.  I covered the trail a good ways down and only found junk metal and some vehicle parts.  I felt that I searched that area very well and started searching the left side where all the rocks were at.  I eventually made my way up to the top where my cones were, but I didn’t find Tyler’s ring.  I decided to head back down and search along the trail again to be sure.  I made it back down and confirmed that the ring was not there.  I was about 1.5 hours into my search, I told Rachel and Tyler that they may have been further down the trail when the ring was thrown or it just took a crazy bounce.  I could tell that their hope was fading, but Rachel said that she thought they were further down the trail when the ring was thrown.  That made sense, because different sections of the trail looked very similar.

I began searching that next area where Rachel thought they were.  About 30 minutes in, I received a good shallow signal on my Equinox.  I moved my coil to the side and saw the shape of a ring just barely covered!  I could see the gleam of the sun reflecting off of it.  Rachel was looking in my direction, I smiled and pointed down to the ground.  She asked, “you found it?”  I said “yes!”  Both Rachel and Tyler came over, and Tyler picked up the ring.  They were so excited!  Tyler almost couldn’t believe it, because it wasn’t where he thought it should’ve been.  We can only find what’s there to be found and being in the right spot is the only way for that to happen.

We celebrated for a few minutes, took some pictures, and were on our way to their house.  I’m so happy that they have their ring back.  I pray that this helps strengthen their relationship.  Thank you, Lord, for another successful ring recovery!  I’m always happy to help, proud to be a member of The Ring Finders, and looking forward to my next adventure…

*** Celphone  with drivers license and credit cards lost in sand at Orange County, CA. beach. Ella called me looking for help to find her friend, Julia’s IPhone. They are vacationing here in SoCal and will be returning to Belview, WA. in a couple days.

Julia was devastated as not only her celphone was missing, she had her credit cards and identification attached to the phone case. I met the two ladies on the beach after the sunset. I have no problem doing night searches. 

They had the “Find My Pone App “ on Ella’s phone. It showed the phone still had batteries but we could not hear a alarm sound or see the light on the screen. I had to be under the sand.

The indicator on the tracking was not very accurate and the grid search was going on to almost an hour. The two young ladies were getting cold and starting to believe the metal detector wasn’t going to work. They even asked me to stop. I told them to go back to their apartment and I would continue until I was sure I had covered the area properly. 

They left and before they got off the beach, BOOM ! .. I found the phone and it’s contents. Then I quickly made a call to them. They had barely walked off the beach before getting my call. They came back to retrieve the phone with big smiles and saying they had given up hope. 

I knew it was there, I just didn’t get my metal detector coil over target..  Knowing my equipment is important. If the item is there I can find it. If it’s not there nobody is going to find it. If you don’t try you will never find it..

** I just got out of the water where I had been practicing dive recovery techniques. When I checked my phone I could see a text asking for help finding a lost ring at Califia State Beach, San Clemente, CA.

I called Caroline right away and they were still at the location. She said her white gold diamond ring was lost in dry sand. I told them I could be there in less than an hour. They said, they could stay to show me the area. It would also be better because the beach was crowded now and many seemed to be leaving.

When I arrived, I scanned the whole area around their pop-up tent with no sign of her most prized engagement ring. We had one more place that i couldn’t get to on the dry sand. Another group of beach goers were still on that spot. 

While waiting for the other space to be available to search, I asked Caroline if she went into the ocean. She said only walked into the surf for a few minutes but she was sure the ring wasn’t lost in the water. 

I took a few minutes to grid search ankle deep incoming tide. While doing that I checked the tide schedule on my iPhone app. When I tried to put my phone in my pocket I missed the pocket and my phone was lost in the surf.

Frantically scanning the surf for my phone, BOOM! Caroline’s beautiful white gold diamond engagement ring found.. My phone was never recovered, crazy what the ocean can do. The flat phone must have just got pulled way down into the deep water.  

Caroline and Bob were very grateful and couldn’t believe how her ring was lost in the area she had only visited for 5 minutes.  I was happy for them and I immediately left to get a replacement for my phone as was Sunday and the phone company closes early. I need a phone to be available for the next recovery call.

Lost 2 White Gold Rings with Diamonds Found in Ecorse Michigan

A Midnite Rendezvous……

……..of a different nature is what Dwann experienced last night. Just before sunset yesterday as his wife and family were getting ready to visit family out of town, she took the dog for a quick walk at a nearby park and somehow her rings came off. Completely freaking out it was now dark and rainy. During the ride to the airport, I got a call explaining what happened. I agreed to meet Dwann when he returned from dropping them off. A quick turn on and go with my MXT metal detector had me grid searching quickly as the rain came down. Picking up a few junk signals I kept up the grid search and close to a small tree I got a solid signal. Using my smaller pin-pointer metal detector Dwann pointed the flashlight beam at the suspected area. As the smaller detector buzzed, I reached down into the grass and suddenly I saw one of the rings shimmering in the glow of the flashlight. Searching in a zig-zag type pattern another good signal came thru just a few feet away. Illuminating the spot I saw the 2nd ring sparkling back at us! Totally elated, Dwann sent a picture to her titled midnite rendezvous and assured me that this is a rendezvous she will be quite happy with.
