Lost Phone at Ocean Beach found

Keanna spent the day at the dog beach in Ocean Beach with friends, both human and furry. Sometime during her stay, her phone came up missing. She and her friends sifted through the sand trying to find it, but, we know the results of that effort…..nada. After an online search with her friend Kristen’s phone, The Ring Finders website came up and my info. Kristen contacted me on her phone asking for help. Being early afternoon on a Labor Day weekend, trying to make to their location right away would be almost impossible, so, since they planned on being there for a while, I told them I’d come later in the day when people started to leave the beach and I would actually be able to drive to the beach and find a parking spot. I arrived a bit after sunset and met up with Kristen in the parking lot. We trekked over to the area where the phone was lost, and where I met Keanna and the gang. Maybe a minute went by on my search and I get a fairly deep and large signal on my detector. Not wanting to accidentally damage her phone, I used my pin pointer to probe into the sand for the target. I wasn’t surprised to find her phone, as this was the signal I expected, but, I was surprised that it was 8-10 inches deep. We guessed that with the dogs digging and other activities around the camp that it must have ended up in a hole that got covered. Brandon and his father in law were enjoying a guys day out fishing under Johns Pass bridge when all of a sudden Brandon hooked a nice size red fish and managed to get it up onto the dock. The next challenge was to secure the fish for a decent photo and in the process Brandon got a bunch of fish slime on his hand. So what is ones natural instinct when your hand is covered in slime? You shake your hand in hopes that the slime will go sailing off, but more than slime went flying! Brandon was shocked when he felt his wedding ring slip off of his hand and doubly shocked when it landed out in the water. He could not believe what just happened and the thrill and excitement of catching a nice fish disappeared as the reality of what just took place started to sink in. The water was way to deep for Brandon to try his hand at recovering it and actually it was close to 17 feet deep with lots of rocks and concrete boulders and sand and a fairly swift current on top of it all.

This vacation was a much needed one for Brandon and his wife and in-laws as he had to miss last years special vacation due to his military deployment. And having been married for only two years he was having a very hard time dealing with the loss of his wedding ring and having to end their vacation on that bitter note. Later that evening Brandon was looking online for some help and typed in “Underwater ring searching” and up came theringfinders.com! Most all members of theringfinders can search yards, parks and shallow water ways but only a few of us are scuba certified and that was definitely what Brandon was needing. It was a two and a half hour drive to Johns Pass in St. Pete, Florida and after obtaining the proper permission we met and proceeded to set up on the dock under the bridge. I then took two PVC poles that I joined together in order to drive down into the bottom to mark the center of the dive area. Brandon said his ring could be in a 20 foot square area and I was hoping to somehow mark the bottom. Unfortunately the PVC pole was 4 foot short plus the bottom was very rocky with small areas of sand here and there. So I opted to follow one of the dock pilings to the bottom and then with my back to the piling I made my way along the bottom using my Nokta/Makro-Pulse Dive, handheld metal detector to scan for Brandon’s lost wedding ring. Right away it was obvious that it would be difficult as the concrete had rebar in each large block and the detector was picking up all kinds of signals. I slowly made my way forward, barely being able to see what was in front of me. I determined to check each signal and found some fishing sinkers and other large objects. Being the ring was lost the day before it seemed likely that it would not be buried very deep in the sand. For 15 minutes I scanned all around until I came to two large chunks of concrete and as I scanned over the top I noticed a small area of sand and it gave a sharp signal. I swam closer to see what it was and I could barely make out a small circular shaped object. As my hand closed over the item it was obvious that it was a ring. I had a hard time containing myself and let out an underwater scream of Praise!! I slowly ascended to the top and stuck my hand out of the water with the ring on my pinky finger. Brandon’s father in law was videoing with his Gopro and Brandon was in total shock! He could not believe it was his ring and asked me what kind of markings it had on it. I told him and he still seemed dubious!

How I thank God for allowing me to find Brandon’s lost wedding ring and for keeping me safe during the whole ordeal!

Lost Ring, Perdido Beach – FOUND!!!

Sometimes everything comes together and no matter how lost something is, it’s just bound to be found. That was the case for this young lady on the beach yesterday afternoon who had lost a very important ring. It was already very late after work but I decided to hit the beach anyway. I had already gone to one parking area but after I walked all the way to the water I realized that I left my battery in the car. I walked all the way out and decided that I should head down the beach a bit because of a storm that was on the way. When I got there I decided to turn towards the rain cloud so that if I got caught in the storm, I would have the wind at my back running to the car. All of these things seemed to innocently transpire all to have BrieOcea come running up to me after only about five minutes on the beach. She asked if I was holding a metal detector and she looked hopeful when I told her I was. I asked her if she had lost something and she replied that she had dropped a ring that had been in her family for generations. I told her that I would be glad to take a look and asked her what the ring was made out of and when she lost it. She said it had almost been a week and that she thought it was silver. I think she saw me start to lose some confidence because she quickly assured me that it was a very small area. I asked her a little more about the ring and she said that there was a large black stone with a diamond in it. I made a note to dig everything because while possible, especially on older rings, diamonds are usually not on silver. I started gridding back and forth and it wasn’t long before she came over and said that her boyfriend had called from the condo and told her that we were slightly in the wrong spot. I made the adjustment and went back to the search. I found a coin or two and got my hopes up. Then I got a signal that could be trash but I knew it could also be gold. I went ahead and dug it because of my earlier thoughts about the diamond. I am very glad that I did because I pulled out a beautiful gold ring with a black stone and a diamond in it. When I called her over, she placed it back on her finger and she was just thrilled. She mentioned that she had made up her mind to not worry and let things work themselves out. When I told her the events that led me to her she said God must have sent me her way. Indeed!  I am so very glad that I could help reunite you with such a special ring. 😃

Lost Wedding Ring Found Minnesota Lake / River

Amy located me through theringfinders.com website. She lost her wedding ring and really wasn’t sure where. Her family had spent the day at the beach/park in Lake City Minnesota. While dining out that evening at a nearby restaurant, she noticed her ring was missing. They quickly backed tracked to the beach and parking area to search. As they talked to other people and park officials, they were informed of the ring finders website and Amy promptly called me. After talking about the scenario, we decided the best hope was on the beach or in the water. I met Amy’s husband Matt at the park and we did a quick search of the beach and water edge area. No luck. I suited up for a scuba search as Amy was swimming in water approx. 12 feet deep. It was a pretty large area to search and the water was murky with no visibility. When I get a hit on my metal detector I have to use feel to find the object. There was a lot of trash, I had to bring two full bags of trash back to shore and Matt would run it up to the trash can.  After 3 hours underwater I was just about out of air and out of confidence. I don’t know what it was, maybe divine intervention? Though, I was just getting out of the water and something told me to turn back I try one more time. Within the next few seconds I got another hit and there was that beautiful ring. It truly was an incredible search and find – One I will never forget.

Lost Diamond Earring found in Calgary

Got a call!  Tom’s wife lost a diamond earring when it got caught in a badminton net she was moving. They looked for it without luck. That’s when they called me. Stud earrings are small and hard to find with a standard coil. I swept the second area with my usual coil but found it wouldn’t pick it up. So I swap

Chris was just getting started on a relaxing hike in the Moses Creek Conservation Area and with all the warm weather and rain the mosquitos have been out in record number this year. As he was walking along he felt something biting him on the back of his left calf and he instinctively swatted at it and as his hand glanced off of his leg he felt and saw his wedding ring go sailing into the thick grass and bushes. He instantly dropped his backpack and began looking through the brush hoping desperately to find his ring. An hour passed and then two and still Chris could not locate his lost wedding ring. He decided to go home for a break and eat some lunch and then he returned to the very spot and continued searching the thick tangle of palmettos and brush. Another two hours passed and no ring! Dejected and discouraged Chris went home and began searching for the nearest place to purchase a metal detector. He decided to order one on line but it would take 5 to 7 days to arrive in the mail and he was anxious about not having his ring and wanted to do something more about finding it sooner. Another search led him to theringfinders.com and after reading some of the success stories he opted to give me a call. Chris explained what happened and the next day I met him at the trail head and armed with my trusty Garrett ATMax metal detector we set off down the path to the exact spot where he last saw his ring. It was quite obvious where he lost it because of all the trampled down brush and bushes. I set up my metal detector in Zero Mode, then ground balanced the machine and started searching along the edge of the trail working my way into the thicker brush. It became obvious that swinging a metal detector would not work effectively so we decided to step on the bushes and by bending them over it would allow me to swing my coil over each area. It took 15 minutes until I got a repeatable signal that had promise. Peering into the thick tangle I had to use my Garrett “carrot” pin pointer to actually locate Chris’s lost ring. Chris was elated and overjoyed to have his wedding ring back on his finger and as we walked back to our vehicles we talked of metal detecting and the joys and thrills of finding lost treasure!

Ring lost at La Jolla Shores found

Annabelle was at La Jolla Shores surfing when, while ducking under an incoming wave, her hard earned graduation ring popped off her finger and plunged in the waist deep surf. After an online search, Annabelle’s mother Ginny, called me about an hour and half later to see if I could help. Do beaches eat rings? Sure I could! At least I would give it the old college try! Surf hunts are never easy, and with a storm southwest of us causing some bigger surf, this was going to be an extra challenge. I picked 11:30pm as a time to meet, as low tide was going to be coming up at 1:15am. Annabelle lost her ring about and hour and fifteen minutes from +5.9 high tide, so, with a -.01 low tide coming up, the ring should only be in very shallow water or wet sand. I met with Ginny, Annabelle, and her two brothers on time and we proceeded to the search area. As I suspected, the surf was not going to cooperate. Rouge waves kept blasting up the wet sand wiping out my grid marks, and after a half hour and a few tries going from beach to breakers, I gave up on that plan and tried running parallel to the shore where I was able to take some bearings from lights off in the distance to help keep me on a straight line. After another 15 minutes and not finding a single non-ferrous target all night, I got a nice solid 10 on my Equinox in ankle deep water. One scoop later, and I see a nice looking ring in the basket. I walked over to Annabelle and Ginny and asked if this was THE ONE. Annabelle picked up the ring in relief, joy, and disbelief. A pleasure to meet you all, and thank you for the reward.

I got a call from Brian letting me know that there had been a ring loss at the beach the evening before. He and his wife were visting from Northern California, and were ready to go home. He had put his wife’s rings in his shirt pocket ,and then proceeded to play beach tennis, not thinking about them being lost. When he was done, and they had moved to a different location, he realized they were gone. Knowing that this beach is cleaned very well, I let him know that I would come as soon as possible.

When I got there, and Brian showed me the area, I could see that he had gone over the whole area with sifters, that drag through the sand, yet was unable to locate the rings. I then began to search where he had been sitting, and then towards where they had moved to. It was then that Brian encouraged me to look in the court first. I went back and began a grid in the court. After 2 passes got a good signal, and dug the diamond studded wedding band. Just 3 feet further out popped the engagement ring, a real beautiful set to be sure. When I showed Brian he was so happy because they were supposed to leave that morning to go home back up North. Well now they could go, and Brian was no longer in the “dog house”. A wonderful morning!

Jetties Beach Nantucket, Massachusetts – Ring Lost, Found, returned by TheRingFinders

Holly and her husband were on a quick get-away anniversary vacation to Nantucket for a bit of fun and sun. All started well then slight rain dampened the day but not the spirit for some beach fun. John was in the water in a flash with Holly following a more slowly. That would not be as much fun as was having which gave him the idea of a quick attack, on his wife and launching her into the air with a water landing, his idea of FUN! Yes he thought, but not so much as he felt for the ring on his left hand that had been there for 8 year, it was gone.

After a long search, a local person with a metal detector was asked to search for the ring, Many targets, but not ring were found. Gone forever John and Holly returned home. Holly just could not give up on a very sentimental item. After a bit of Googling TheRingFinders, my name came up. She thought it would not hurt to reach out without telling John. During the call I had to assure her the ring was still where it was lost and if anyone could find it I was a good choice. I also said to double the chances I should have another Ring Finder, Leighton Harrington, go on the search with me. Holly agreed. That set the wheels in motion. Timing of tides and ferry schedules and weather forecasts narrowed the date down to the25th. It turned out that was John’s birthday.

After a 5am meeting with Leighton for the 6am ferry ride, a walk to the ferry, the ride to the island another walk to the beach, a cup of coffee and snack on the way, we were on the beach. We put our gear together and headed for the water, marking the sand with lines to show the most likely area the missing ring would be in. As I put my feet into the water OOPS I forgot to take off my shorts. I took care of that shortcoming and back in the water Leighton had his first signal, an earring he wanted to show me. I took three steps toward Leighton and had a signal of my own. Bingo! The birthday boy’s ring was in my scoop, Happy Birthday John.

We has planned for up to 6 hours to search for the ring. We now had almost all that time to just enjoy the rest of the day, our main reason was in the pouch. Our return ferry ticket were for the 4pm sailing.
We made good use of the time detecting three beaches we had never been to before.

Back home arrangements for the ring’s return via the USPS was set. Another great day enjoying a wonderful hobby and making others smile was coming to a close. A peaceful night’s sleep without worries of a missing ring will be had by all, except John who will not know of the find until the surprise reuniting is completed by Holly. I only wish I could be there, I know it will be emotional and a day to remember.
