Man’s wedding band recovered in Hamlin Lake, Ludington, Michigan

  • from Manistee (Michigan, United States)
Contact:

I got a call from Alison M. today at 7 am asking me if I could help find her husband of 2 weeks, wedding ring. She tried contacting another Ring Finder, Ken Wilson, but he was recovering from an operation and he recommended me. The ring was lost last night in the shallow water (3′) at the sand dunes of Ludington State Park. Her husband Colton M. was swimming and the ring came off during one of his strokes. After alerting everyone to the loss they started looking for an impossible find due to fine sand that hides items immediately.

I told Alison that we, Dave Boyer and myself, could be there around 1 pm. It was a 2 hour drive to their location. After we arrived we met Alison and Molly, her mother. In order to reach the dunes we had to go across the lake so we loaded up and took off. The water was clear and cool, the sun was shining and the white sandy bottom made it easy to drag our scoops to properly grid the area. After about 20 minutes of searching I got a signal and in the scoop was the new shiny white gold wedding ring. I ask Alison if that was the ring and she lit up like a Christmas tree. Colton was at work and was unable to celebrate with us so I took Alison’s picture and asked her to send me one of Colton when she went to his office to surprise him. “He was all smiles and lots of hugs” when she gave it to him.

We had some time at the dunes to just search for some goodies in the water but found the area was extremely clean for being a weekend gathering place for boaters and swimmers. We found 2 quarters, 3 shotgun shells, 1 pull tab and a few coins.

I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO KEN WILSON FOR THE REFERRAL AND A SUCCESSFUL RECOVERY FROM BACK SURGERY.

Keys and phone recovered at Torrey Pines State Beach

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Elisebeth was enjoying a day at the beach and buried her keys and phone in the sand under her blanket for safe keeping. When the tide started to come in and getting close to her blanket, someone moved it to higher ground, but, didn’t know about the keys and phone. Later when she was ready to leave, she realized her blanket wasn’t in it’s original location. The water had washed over the old area and she couldn’t locate the exact spot to retrieve her belongings. After a Google search and finding me on TheRingFinders.com website, we agreed to meet and conduct a search. Before we started, I mentioned that the phone and maybe her car fob may have been ruined by the salt water, but, she wanted them anyway. After showing me the search area, I started a grid right in the middle of it. After expanding out a couple of passes in each direction, I got a big signal that just had to be it. Sure enough, with just one scoop, up comes her keys and phone. Thankfully, she had the presence of mind to (previously unknown to me) put her items in a sealed plastic bag. Inside, everything was still nice and dry and working. A happy Elisebeth headed home with a smile on her face and not confronted with the ordeal of having to replace everything. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.

Diamond Engagement and Wedding Ring Set Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

I received an email from Pierra this morning explaining how she had lost her engagement and wedding rings the evening before. She had them “safely tucked away”, when her small child apparently opened up the purse and dumped them into the sand. They were unable to find them, but did not contact me until this morning. This worried me, because I know that this beach is meticulously cleaned by the county daily, and I feared the rings may have been swept up by the mechanical sifting machines. Her husband called, and I agreed to meet Pierra at the spot, because I know that not everything happens as we think.

When I got to the area, and was shown by Pierra where they had been sitting, I was encouraged because I could see that the sifting machines had gone through the area, but not where she had been sitting. I began to search where she showed me, and found a dime. I made a few more passes when Pierra came over to say that she thought the area might be a bit more South of my search area because of some trash she had recognized from the day before. I then lined up in that spot and began a new grid. After a few more passes, I got a good signal and dug. I checked my scoop and saw a real nice diamond band, so I asked her how many rings were involved; she said two. I scanned the remainder of the sand I had removed, and recovered her engagement ring as well. She was very happy, and with great joy to have her rings back on her finger. It was a great opportunity to see such a wonderful smile, and to know that after a tough night’s sleep last night, tonight’s sleep for her will be sweet.

Lost Ring in Surf, Throwing Football .. Strand Beach, Dana Point, CA.

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

I’ve been checking my emails more often than usual, because more inquiries about TheRingFinders service have been coming to me through emails. Most of them seem to be written late at night or early am hours. Most likely because they are not able to sleep thinking about their loss.
Lisa had emailed me asking if I could help her and her husband Logan find a gold wedding ring lost at Stand Beach, Dana Point, CA.
It was lost the day before at high tide in knee deep water while throwing a football. He felt the ring come off his finger the moment it happened.
I get excited with this kind of story because it can be a successful search if the sand is not too mushy. We need to get close to the general location which sometimes can be a problem.
I talked to Logan on the phone and he told me it was just south of the last lifeguard stand and he could see a large blue tarp covering a fence on the slope directly in front of where he lost the ring.
I arrived a half hour before Logan and Lisa, at low tide the next morning. The wet sand conditions were perfect, not too soft. Walking down the beach I found the landmarks Logan gave me. It didn’t take long and I had the ring in my scoop. Twenty minutes later they walked up to me on the beach. I asked them a question about what type metal the ring was then held the ring up for them to see. They were surprised immediately and the smiles were a sight to remember.

Sanford, Michigan engagement ring recovered.

  • from Manistee (Michigan, United States)
Contact:

During the South West Michigan Seek and Search club meeting Tuesday evening, I received a call from Kirstyn P. in a desperate situation over loosing her 3 karat diamond engagement ring. She was at Sanford Lake Park with friends out in the water playing catch with a football. She had her ring on her right throwing hand and discovered it was gone after she got out of the water and dried her hands off. Kirstyn and 20 of her friends combed the beach and the water for hours until she posted her loss on Facebook and got a reply from a woman,  Stephanie Marie, who I had found her ring for her a few years ago.

I made arrangements with her to drive 2 hours to meet her that morning at the park. Dave Boyer, my Ring Finder partner, and I got out to the park at about 9:30 am and after meeting Kristyn and a friend we got our marching orders and headed out to the lake. We usually grid an area with Dave going one direction back and forth and me going the other way up and down. After about an hour, between the marker buoys, Dave went up to check out the beach. I finished my grid and got to the center of about a 100′ X 100′ area and got a good hit. Looking in my scoop was a beautiful engagement ring that I quickly slipped into my glove.

I walked up to the picnic table where everyone was setting and explained that the water was as clean as I have ever seen (no coins, bottle caps or rings) there were several holes where there was an obvious detector out there in the last few days. I reached in my glove and showed Kirstyn the ring and said “but I did find this, is this it?” The look on her face is that which all of us Ring Finders want to see, followed with a big hug. Kirstyn’s future mother in law, Michelle, was there and proceeded to snap off a few pics. This was a real pleasure meeting her friend, uncle, Michelle and a few others. Her Fiance, “Trevorgyver”, was at work but is one happy man. Thank you Michelle for buying our lunch it was a pleasure meeting you.

Father & Son’s Ring Lost in Surf City, NC Found

  • from Emerald Isle (North Carolina, United States)

While attending a wedding reception for a family member I received a call from Drew.  He explained he lost his ring on the beach in Surf City, NC.  He said it was about 30 minutes before finding my name on The Ring Finders.  I tried to keep him posted on my location as I headed home to get my equipment and change clothes.  I arrived about 1 hour before low tide and 2 hours before sunset.  I explained to Drew to try to remember the general area as best as possible and try to mark it with a landmark.  This was a big help as he guided me almost right to the ring after I searched a few areas out of range of where he was at the time of loss.  Here is Drew’s explanation:

“During a family vacation on Topsail Island (going on 35+ years for my in-laws) I lost my wedding band throwing around a football at high tide.  We thought there was NO WAY we’d find the ring in the water / sand.  Enter Steven Ray: he left a wedding reception to come to our location with his metal detecting gear, and within 30 minutes had discovered the ring.  All of my family and friends gave him a standing ovation, and my wife and I are very grateful that he was able to recover a sentimental ring (it was my late father’s wedding band as well).  Thank you Steven”

East Lake Campground, Hopkins, Michigan

  • from Manistee (Michigan, United States)
Contact:

A bachelor party ended up with a lost Go Pro camera attached to a tripod in about 7 feet of water. A.P. (initials he goes by) called me Monday to tell me how he lost the camera while swimming out to the dock at East Lake Campgrounds in Hopkins, Michigan. He thought it was in deeper water so I called in my backup scuba diver Craig Ziecina who has pulled me out of a couple tough jams lately. While Dave Boyer and myself searched the shallows in the roped off swimming area Craig went deep into the spring fed dark bottom of the swim area. After about 10 minutes the camera was recovered. I attempted to call A.P. and set up a time to return his camera. After some negotiations between a 175 mile distance between us we will be returning it to him soon. Pictures for our book of smiles will be edited into the story soon.

Low tide hunt… Kayakers wedding ring found!

  • from Seattle (Washington, United States)

FOUND IT!

Last week, a kayaker lost his wedding ring after slipping and falling into the bay while launching at the shoreline during low tide. After he and some others tried searching for it this week with no success, I hit the beach this weekend to try my best to reunite him with with his precious ring.

Good information is key to a successful hunt, and I asked him to get some satellite photos where he was, and circle the place he thought it could be. I headed to the beach before I got any answer, and searched anyway. I did my best to guess based on other factors, where I thought it could be.

I hunted for some time before I realized I missed the email, and he had sent me info and pictures that were key to finding it.

He wrote: “I will say another ring finder did a search of the area on Thursday and was unable to find anything. The tide at this beach is enormous. Probably 80ish feet of beach disappears at high tide. Looks like low tide is at 3:48pm this afternoon, if you do still want to look. I will attach some images that may help. The image with the green kayak at the shoreline is where I slipped and it must have come off my finger. But the tide could have taken it anywhere. The big tree stump doesn’t seem to move as well as the flat and curved driftwood I highlight in the image. I was between these two landmarks circled in red at the shoreline where you can see the other kayak in the background. The ring is made of palladium by the way, a member of the platinum family. The tide was somewhere around midway between high and low when I fell in. It will be much further out, as you will see, at 3:48 than it was in this photo.”

He also provided me with a crucial picture that he had taken that day. In it you can see the area he launched from, and some static landmarks.

After hunting another 45 mins or so, I FOUND IT!

Remember, time is of the essence when it comes to finding your precious belongings! Don’t give up hope, and give me a call or email me please! I want to help you find your rings, and your smiles!

Good info was the key!

Lowtide success!

Lost Property Irons (Markers) and Sprinkler Heads Found in Grosse Ile Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Not ALL Treasures are Gold and Silver!

This nice gentleman called me asking if I could find some lost items on his property. The house was built in 1876 and I really got excited as I have detected on old home sites and found some cool things. He explained that he had his fence permit approved and he needed the property irons and sprinkler heads that were covered over found before the fence installation and other construction projects at the house.  After I got on site I was impressed with how magnificent those old homes are. I used my Tesoro sidewinder no disc and located the items requested and received permission to detect the whole property at a later date! And the owner is interested in detecting as well!

Lost Gold & Diamonds Engagement Ring at Ewa Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a call from Samantha on Ewa Beach. While she was changing her clothes to her bathing suit her 2 year old son made a bee line for the water at the beach. She immediately dropped what she was doing to chase down her son. In her successful efforts to stop him her Engagement Ring fell off into the water and the pounding shore surge and disappeared. I told her we needed to look right away as the sun was beginning to set and I didn’t want the ring to get tossed around all night. Samantha said we could meet at the local convenient store on the beach and walk down from there to the spot her ring came off. I was delayed a bit by traffic but still made it there before it got too dark. Samantha knew exactly where it fell off so I started a grid search there. First a pull tab. Then I got a nice ring tone but the shore surge washed it away. I knew that had to be the ring so I started expanding around that point. Nothing though. Damn! Did I lose my chance because if the ring went out into the coral it could be lost forever. On my second grid line I got the tone again and immediately scooped before the waves had a chance. Got it there in the scoop was a sparkling white gold ring with just enough twilight to see it glisten. I walked up to Samantha and handed her what I found, “Is this it?” I asked. Oh my gosh I can’t believe it. I explained how it got away from me and we were thankful it didn’t go seaward. Samantha’s husband Elawrence was stunned and extremely thankful. There were hugs all around and Samantha could now go back home to Illinois with her ring. Aloha to Samantha & Elawrence.
