“Grandma’s Silver”

  • from Orange (California, United States)

At 2:00PM I received a call from Kaylynn with an unusual request. Her grandmother, whom never trusted banks, had given her (8) Index Card Boxes of Silver coins, and asked her to have her grandson bury them in their backyard in case of Apocalypse!
Her grandson was young at the time, but he and his brother did as requested. Years went by and they did not remember where they were located, and grandma had passed several years ago. Two years prior, the purchased a metal detector to try and find it but with no luck, as they really didn’t know how to use it and thought it was about 3′ down.
Today, her kids had spent the day digging up a 20′ x 15′ area of the backyard where they thought it would be, and made the boundaries wide enough they should find it.  The whole day went by, they dug 2-3 feet down and still nothing. They will be selling the house soon, so needed to find it before then.
They decided to call TheRingFinders, and my friend and fellow RingFinder, Ron Wilton, was not available, so they called me.
I went out to their house and within 15 Minutes, I had a large object signal with my NOX 800, and I told them it may be something else, or may be the box, but it was fairly good sized.
Bingo!  They dug down about 10″ and there it was, just about a foot and a half outside of their boundary line!
All in all, (8) Index Card Boxes full of mostly Silver Quarters, neatly rolled up, and a box of oddball Silver Half’s dating from 30’s to 70’s and various other coins. I would say about 105 Rolls of Silver Quarters, which is 4,200 Silver Quarters with  a melt value today of $2.5589 = $10,747 in Silver!

They were so happy to have found it and wished they had called  sooner to save all that digging!
So glad I could help them recover their Silver.

Mens Wedding Band Lost & Found On Swanage Beach

  • from Bournemouth (England, United Kingdom)
Contact:

Ed & his wife Julie from Southampton were visiting friends for the day frolicking on Swanage Beach.  Unfortunately it ended in disaster when Ed noticed the ring which he had been wearing for the past ten years disappeared into the soft sand.

When called I was concerned about its recovery due to the close proximity to a small stream cutting through the beach washing items deeper into the sand and for the fact it had been several days since its initial loss.

The search was pretty standard- scanning up and down and mapping out a grid by dragging my scoop. after 15 minutes of search up she come with a bellowing noise through my headset.

Ed &  Julie were very pleased to have the ring back and made a kind donation to the Margret Green Animal Charity.

Gold Wedding Band Lost & Found In Poole Garden

  • from Bournemouth (England, United Kingdom)
Contact:

We all appreciate that warm feeling when feeding the birds but for Mrs Andrews of Poole, Dorset it left her feeling extremely upset.

Whilst tossing bread to the hungry sparrows in her Poole back garden, suddenly she felt her wedding band, that she rarely took off, slip from her finger and disappear somewhere into her garden grass. Several attempts were made by herself and husband but to no avail fearing it had disappeared deep into the bushes and lost forever.

I received the call and visited a few days later prepared for a ‘hands and knees’ search in and out of bushes. After only 5 minutes searching the Detector screamed the cry of gold and there it was- almost under a bush some 4 meters away.

Mrs Andrews was very appreciative to wear the ring again and very kindly donated to the Margret Green Animal Charity.

Lost diamond earring, Port Orange, Fl…..Found and Returned!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)
Contact:

Last Friday Amanda called me from San Antonio, Texas with a very special request. She explained that her mother Liz, who lives in Port Orange, Florida had just lost a very expensive diamond earring! Two days earlier Mrs Liz had an invitation to eat lunch at a friends house and before heading out the door she decided to wear her beautiful earrings that were a gift to her from her husband Tom, 14 years ago. They had a wonderful time visiting their friend and after a delicious meal Mr. Tom and Mrs. Liz headed for home. Immediately after arriving home Mrs. Liz went to her bedroom to remove her special diamond earrings and to her dismay one of them was missing. And the search began! They looked everywhere and could not find it. And she decided to call her daughter Amanda in San Antonio for some advice. Amanda went right to work searching for some help for her distraught mother and after typing “Metal Detector Rental Orlando” into her phone she found theringfinders and one of my search and recovery stories. The call was made and the next day I met Amanda’s parents. Mr. Tom and Mrs. Liz said they had the other earring in a small plastic bag so I could get a reading with my metal detector, but unfortunately the bag got misplaced or thrown out that morning and we had a frantic 30 minute search—emptying garbage bags and crawling all over the house. Thankfully Mr. Tom finally found it in the thrown out newspaper bin!! Before heading to the neighbors house I searched the car, the garage and basically the whole house with my flashlight and then we headed to the friends house.
At the friends home Mrs.Liz showed me where she walked, partly on the thick St. Augustine grass and half way on the cement driveway. I was barely able to get a reading with my metal detector on the diamond earring because of the small amount of gold and the thick grass prevented me from getting the coil down to where it could detect the lost one—if it was in the grass. I ended up going over the whole area using my Garrett Pro Pointer and still no earring. I then made my way into the house basically crawling on my hands and knees with my flashlight searching every possible nook and cranny. Mrs. Liz showed me where she sat at the dining table and underneath the table was a beautiful white shag carpet. So I moved the chairs and with my flashlight I scanned the carpet hoping for the sparkle of the lost diamond earring. Nothing! I then thought to run my hand over the carpet and after a few sweeps I felt something pop up and sure enough it was Mrs. Liz’s precious earring! Mrs. Liz kept saying “I can’t believe you actually found it”
Maybe you or a friend has lost something special and I can be of help. Call ASAP!

LOST 18K GOLD FAMILY HEIRLOOM RING IN SCHOOL PLAYGROUND IN RANCHO CUCUMONGA FOUND AND RETURNED.

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

I got a call from Benjaman’s gym teacher while I was on the way to work. He told me that Ben had lost a family heirloom 18K gold ring in the school playground . It was passed down from his grandfather from Israel . I changed my plans, grabbed my metal detector and headed to the school in Rancho Cucamonga . I met the gym teacher less than an hour later and he escorted me onto the school grounds. Once he showed me the general area that Ben thought that he lost it , the search only took 15 minutes before I found his heavy beautiful ring . When the gym teacher called Ben over he couldn’t believe his eyes to get his ring back. He assured me and his teacher that he would never bring the ring to school again. Benjaman is the good kid and I was happy to help him.

Lost Gold & Diamonds Wedding Ring at Ko Olina Lagoon 4…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a call from Cheyenne who was visiting the islands from Seattle Washington. Cheyenne told me her husband Brandon was tending to his toddler son on the beach when his ring fell off into the sand. Being distracted by his son he wasn’t exactly sure which way it went. I told Cheyenne I’d be there in 45 minutes to search. When I arrived Brandon reenacted what happened and then I began my search. I found a quarter and a Corona bottle cap and then I got a nice tone in the wet sand. I dug about 6 to 8 scoops then abandoned that target thinking it was a very deep can and how could the ring be 12 inches or more deep when it was just lost an hour earlier. After working parallel to shore I decided to go perpendicular as the waves were erasing my track. As I got to the spot I previously abandoned the awesome tone was still there and I decided I wanted to get that target. At least three more scoops and there in the scoop was Brandon’s ring. How in the world did it get that deep into the sand? We’ll never know but we now have Brandon’s ring back on his finger. Aloha to Cheyenne & Brandon!

WEDDING RING LOST IN UPLAND FOUND AND RETURNED.

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

I was just leaving the Bass Pro shop on Tuesday morning when I got an email from Kian who had just lost his palladium wedding ring the night before in the grass in front of his house while playing catch with his young daughter . His house was actually on may way home , so Kian gave me  directions and the gate code and i was there in less than fifteen minutes. I searched in the area that Kian said he lost the ring about twenty five minutes with no luck. He was stuck at work in down town LA so he couldn’t meet me there , when we spoke on the phone before I called it quits to go home and retrieve another metal detector that I was more familiar with. He gave me more details which helped me narrow down the search area , after thirty minutes under my belt using my new machine I got a solid signal and there under the grass was Kian ring . After texting him the pictures he was amazed to see his ring again . He had me meet his wife at work to returned the ring , she was as happy as could  be and graciously thank me. Its always a pleasure to reunite such  nice  people with their sentimental jewelry.

I got a call from Nuna, she had been running on the beach, when a great dane dog came running full speed at her and collided with her knocking her down. When she got up she realized that the collision was so extreme, her earring was dislodged from her ear and lost somewhere in the sand. This earring was part of a set, that was originally her mother’s who had passed away a few years prior, so the recovery of this piece of jewelry was  very important to her. I left right away.

We met up at the beach after I arrived, and walked over to spot of the loss. The lifeguards had raked the area over real well, as the sand was smoothed out over a 30 by 30 foot patch of sand. I began my search, and began finding some odds and ends like bottle caps and foil, but no earring. I just continued my grid making sure I covered every inch of the area. I showed Nuna the items I had found, and continued the search. Then as she was coming back from talking with one of the lifeguards, I got a good gold sound in the headphones, scooped, and had her earring. I pulled it out of the scoop and held it up so she could see it, and she came over in disbelief. She thought as many do, that her sentimental item was lost forever, but we as members of The Ring Finders are here to do our best to make sure that isn’t the case. So glad to have made Nuna’s day, and give her reason to smile; GREAT DAY!

Bryan contacted me the other day regarding the loss of a pendant he wore around his neck. He had been playing football in the sand at the beach, when as a result of an attempted tackle, the necklace that held the pendant came apart, and the pendant was engulfed by the sand. He told me that it had high sentimental value, and it would mean a lot to him if I was able to find it. I let him know that I was on my way, and would let him know when I arrived.

When I got to the area, I began walking out on the sand, and Bryan met me and walked me over to the spot of the loss. I could see where he and his friends had been combing the sand with their hands and feet. We talked about what had happened, and how it happened, so that I had a good idea of where I should begin my search. I also asked what I was looking for, and Bryan said, “a silver bullet”. I began a grid, and worked it to the outer edge of where they had been searching. I did not find the “bullet”, so I began searching the other side when I got a strong signal and dug. In the scoop was a key, and as I usually do I held it up for Bryan to see, and let him know it was just a key. I was getting ready to put into my finds bag when he came up and said, “wait, that key was also on the necklace”. I then ran the detector over the spot again with another good signal coming through. I scooped again, and in the scoop was a cylindrical shaped pendant, but not a bullet. When I pulled it out Bryan got so very emotional and said, “You have no idea what this means to me”, so I asked if he would let me know. He told me his father had passed away a couple of years ago, and this cylinder held a portion of his ashes. At this point I realized how important this recovery was to Bryan. He was so relieved, and I was very happy to have been able to help; a great day!
