NO WAY, but the Right Way to find a ring on West Dennis Beach, MA

The sun had come out, the temperature was on the rise and more people were enjoying Cape Cod’s beaches. That is until a ring is lost in the sand. That’s when TheRingFinders get called. Today Ryan lost his wedding band in the warm sand and could not find it. The Dennis Lifeguard offered up the information to contact someone that could help.

Leighton was called but with the urgency of finding a ring in the soft sand and the afternoon bridge traffic he called me with the request for help from Ryan. Leighton and I have teamed up for several years and usually both of us will respond to a call for help. Anyway, I arrived and was ready to search about 15 minutes after Leighton’s call.

I met Ryan on the beach, he pointed out the area he had been sitting in and the area he had moved his chair to. OK, this should be short and sweet and it was. I was going to go perpendicular to the water only to change my mind and walked parallel with the water’s edge. The first swing I had a great signal and yes it was the ring. I said I quit! Those watching me thought there may be something wrong. No it was OK as I showed Ryan’s wife the ring in the sand scoop before letting Ryan remove it and place it back on is finger.

All were very pleased with my success, from Ryan’s In-Laws (now there was no reason for them to be an Out-Law) to his wife and young daughter and Ryan himself, not to forget myself. As this return had to hold the speed record of less than 25 minutes from the time I was called to the time the ring was back were it should have stayed.

Now for a few grateful vacationers, it is off to the Whydah Museum and perhaps The Crazy Rooster for breakfast in the morning. A trip to Martha’s Vineyard would not be complete without indulging on an apple fritter at the Back Door Donut shop.

There is always so much to do on a vacation and today just added a new experience no one should have to endure. I am thankful that a call for help was made, a vacation was not spoiled, and that great vacation memories will be taken home from Cape Cod.

Ring of Keys Found Wellfleet, Cape Cod, MA.

A bit of help in finding a set of lost keys came from a grandmother. Her granddaughter had taken ill while hiking the trails in the National Seashore area of Massachusetts. I was told the rings were “lost” somewhere along one of the trails between a parking lot and one of three ponds and perhaps by a rock where a rest stop had been made. This was going to be a long shot at best. But a challenge I was up to.

Six family members had been staying at my home and were leaving the next day. Rain was in the forecast and the daylight was waning. It just was not a good time for me to go on a search so I put off the search to the next day. I arrived at the parking lot and the ticket agent told me a set of keys had been found and were taken to the police station. Well, that was easy and off to pick up the keys.

Unfortunately the single key was not the large set of keys I was in search of. I returned to the parking lot and got ready for a hike, and off I went. I had never been on the path before and other than the assumption that the path lead to the pond I had little to go on. About a half mile later and best guesses on which fork in the path to take I was at the water’s edge. There was no sign of a rock or the keys I was sent to find.

I started hiking, going back up the trail, and searching the other side I saw what might have been a rock, but it was only a soaking wet towel. I decided to move the towel and to my surprise there were the keys. What unbelievable luck as I do not normally move personal items. This time as it was evident they had been there at least overnight and no other person was in sight. I picked up the keys, towel and a sweat shirt and headed back to the parking lot.

Two hours later I was sitting with grandmother Janet. We swapped stories about the loss and finding of the set of keys, store ID cards, good luck charm and a few other trinkets, all very meaningful to Janet’s granddaughter who was still in a hospital. The car had been towed from the parking lot to a family’s horse farm. But it was still locked. Had I not found the keys the family would have incur further charges to tow the car to the dealer, the cutting of two car keys, two house keys, and a couple of other keys. As with most returns, the monetary value of the items returned are not as much appreciated as the special meaning of something that could never be replaced. As always I was thrilled to be able to help.

IPhone Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned Cherry Grove, SC

On Sunday, Jun 25th, I was just about to start a search for a lost engagement ring when Chris walked up and asked if my detector could find a cell phone. I told him it could and he said his wife had lost her cell phone somewhere up in the dry sand. I told him as soon as I’m finished with the ring search, I’d be glad to help him.

When I completed the successful ring search, I found Chris and asked for the details on the phone. He told me that his wife had lost it somewhere between the pier and the beach access. That area was approximately 50 yards or so, so I asked him where they had been sitting and we’d start from there. He led me to an area underneath the pier and I swung the detector about 3 times and hit a good target. I dug a scoop of sand and he said there’s my wife’s phone as he reached in the hole and pulled it out. I love a quick recovery.

White Gold Engagement Ring Lost in the Outgoing Tide, Found and Returned Cherry Grove, SC

On Sunday, June 25th, I was sitting at home waiting to return on a search where the beach was packed with tourist when I received a text from Haley. Her text said “Hi my best friend lost her ring about 5 minutes ago at the north side of Cherry grove pier right by the water line. If anybody turns it in or finds it, could you please let me know!! It’s her engagement ring.” I immediately responded asking “You want me to come look for it?” She responded with a picture of the ring and said “Yes please!” I asked her to call me and gave her my number. Almost instantly she called and I got a few more details, told her I’d be there in 10 minutes, grabbed my Equinox 800 and hit the road. This is Sunday, so parking is almost non-existent for the beach. I’ve got a few hidden spots but even those were taken. I did find a spot that I’m not sure I parked legally, but I didn’t have a ticket when I returned to the car.

As I’m walking out on the beach I called Haley saying I was there. As I’m walking towards the pier, Claire came running up to me and told me she was the one who lost the ring. I asked what happened and she told me she was looking for shells. She continued saying that when she reached for a shell, her ring slipped off her finger and disappeared. She also said her ring was a little loose on her finger. I asked what her ring was and she responded that it was White Gold. We continued walking to the water line and she showed me, almost exactly where she had lost it. I noticed the waves were pretty rough breaking on the shoreline, so I wanted to see what I was up against. I walked straight out in the water, across a bed of broken shells, barefooted no less. After about 10 feet I dropped from ankle deep to about chest deep which explained the breaking waves. After I fought the current and made my way back up to a workable surface; I started a grid line back to where Claire, Haley and another young lady, whose name I didn’t get, were standing. I made my turn and walked back to about ankle deep and hit a great signal, showing an 8 VDI (visual display indicator) which was in the ball park for a white gold ring. I dug a big scoop of sand and shells, checked the hole, which was quickly filled back in, and knew I had the target in the scoop. I walked up to where the young ladies were standing and dumped the scoop. I checked the pile of sand with the detector and found the target. I think I told Claire that we might have it. I spread the sand out with my foot and we all were checking out the sand. Suddenly one of the ladies saw it barely sticking out of the sand and said something like “there it is.” Claire saw it and scooped it up. Bingo! She was now holding her precious treasure and holding back some tears. She was very excited.

Ladies – this was truly a team effort!

Gold Chain with 2 Gold Crosses lost in the dry sand, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach, SC

On Sunday, June 25th, I woke up to an early morning text from Aly saying “Hi There, I lost my daughters necklace with 2 crosses on it yesterday in the sand by my Condo. How much do you charge to look for it?! It was a present from her grandmother and she has since passed away.”I responded asking her to call me. I explained the details of me looking for lost items and she agreed to have me come and see what I could do. I told her there might be a parking issue, since this was Sunday and all the tourist are in town. She told me I could use an extra parking pass she had for the condo so I was on my way.

When I got to the condo, and Aly and I walked out on the beach, it was packed with tourist. She showed me the likely area of the loss and there was no way I could do a complete search at that time. Weaving in and around people, I was able to do maybe 10% of what needed to be done. I did what I could and told her that more than likely, somebody was sitting on the chain and crosses and I’d be back between 4 and 4:30. So I went back home to wait. In the meantime, I received 2 other calls which turned out to be 2 more stories. But back to Aly’s chain and crosses. I was back on the beach at Aly’s Condo about 4 and there were still 3 groups of tourist sitting exactly where I needed to search. I was able to eliminate a few more areas but not what I knew I needed to do. Aly had shared a couple of selfies she had taken with her daughter, Alexa. In the pictures, it gave me a pretty good angle of where they were sitting in relation to the life guard stand, which proved to be perfect. I texted Aly and told her the people were still sitting in the area and I’d be back in about an hour. When I got back about 6, the area was clear. I text Aly saying “I’m back” and started my grid search. Patience paid off, although I’m not a patient person. Within about 30 minutes, I got a solid signal and an 8 on the VDI (visual display indicator), which indicates Gold! I dug a scoop of sand, shook it out of the scoop and saw the first cross, then saw the chain hanging out of the bottom of the scoop. I gently pulled the entire chain and both crosses out of the scoop. I took a quick picture, wrote “BA Bam!”, and sent her a text. She responded almost immediately with “Omg!!” She showed up a short time later with Alexa, who took possession of her special treasure.

Lost diamond engagement ring in grass, Deland, Florida…..Found with metal detector!

Emily and her fiance Will, were just coming home from an evening out and Will was exhausted and he opted to call it a night. Where as Emily felt the need to take a bit of a stroll and check out the night sky. They had originally taken Will’s car so upon arriving home Emily went to her car and before taking her walk she removed her engagement ring and put it into her purse for safe keeping. She proceeded to walk through the yard sort of meandering here and there with the end result of ending up on the boat dock where she could get a clear view of the night sky.

The next morning Emily looked in her purse for her ring and it was no where to be found. They looked all over the yard, on the boat dock, in the car and even bought a metal detector which all it did was wound up making allot of noise! After exhausting all their efforts they went online and found one of my stories on theringfinders.com website and gave me a call. Later that day I met Will and he walked me around the large yard and down to the boat dock. I set out my orange flags and started grid searching from where Emily got out of her car and I figured this may take ma a long time—as they did not indicate at any time that Emily had dropped her purse or had set it down anywhere, except on the dock over the water where she sat down for a while to enjoy the stars. There was allot of the usual yard trash like gum wrapper foil, pull tabs and the odd coin. After 35 minutes I got a strong quarter signal and sure enough a shiny new quarter was just in the grass…I retrieved it and got another signal about 14 inches away…this time it read as a pull tab but it was not a pull tab! It was Emily’s lost diamond engagement ring just setting there in the grass. (Come to find out later that Will had actually used a quarter to see if the metal detecting would work and little did he know that Emily’s ring would be so close to where he was looking!). Again I thank God for allowing me to find Emily and Will’s lost engagement ring and for the opportunity to help someone in need of theringfinders.com services!

LOST – LSU GRADUATION RING – FOUND ON LSU CAMPUS

Carrie and Sid received a call from William’s friend, Cambell. William and he were walking home after watching LSU win the first game of the College World Series finals. William was standing on a ledge on LSU campus when he slipped and fell into some shrubs. He realized his recently earned graduation ring had slipped off his finger. This was the ring his proud grandparents had given him. He and Cambell searched late that night and early the next morning without success. That’s when they found the Ringfinders site. After the call, we headed out to the location. Thick with bushes, metallic confetti and some beer cans we ended up primarily crawling and using pin pointers. Carrie found the ring within 15 minutes.  The guys were jubilant as were we.

I was stopped on the beach about this lost ring. He had lost it earlier in the surf and I searched for about an hour with no luck. He left and within 15 I was able to find it. He happily returned to receive his gold wedding band!

Platinum Engagement Ring Lost in LuLu’s Restaurant’s Big Sand Box, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

I got a frantic call from Amanda saying that I had been referred by Joe Denton of Denton’s Detectors in Little River, SC to help find a lost Platinum Engagement Ring. She said she had placed both her wedding band and Engagement ring on top of her phone that was on the arm of her beach chair. Later she told me that her husband had picked up the rings for safe keeping and had dropped them in the soft sand. They had found the wedding ring but the elusive engagement ring was still buried in the sand. I told her I’d be there in 20 minutes and to please excuse my appearance when I showed up because I was a mess from doing yard work. She replied that if I find it I’d get the biggest hug no matter how sweaty I was. So, I grabbed my Equinox and headed out.

When I arrived and met Amanda, she showed me a 5 foot by 5 foot area where the ring should be. I turned on the Equinox and started swinging. There was a lot of interference but when I hit a solid 11 on the VDI (visual display indicator) I knew I had her ring. When I shook the sand out of the scoop and saw the ring, I looked at her with a surprised look on my face and she knew. When I handed her the ring, she couldn’t hold back the tears, and yes, I did get my big hug! She then told me that she had sent her husband to Walmart to get a metal detector and had just text him her ring was found. I’m sure he was happy. She also told me they had a flight to catch in an hour, hope they made it!

Roadside Diamond Ring Found!

On December 29th, Cole was driving home late at night along a winding road in Woodbridge, Virginia. He tossed out a cigarette butt and his beautiful new diamond ring unexpectedly flew off his finger into a roadside ditch. He saw the rings trajectory, stopped, and looked for the ring to no avail. The next day he called me, and we set up a time to meet so he could show me the area and I could begin the search.

The ditch is close to a busy, winding road. I wore my yellow safety vest, used warning reflectors, and turned on the emergency flashers on my SUV. The ditch had a lot of debris, and the search was slow. After a few hours, it was getting too dark to continue. I told Cole not to be discouraged as I would schedule another search as soon as possible.

As Cole drove off, I discovered my SUV battery was dead! Apparently, emergency flashers on newer cars drain the battery much faster than the cars I grew up with. I couldn’t even open my electric hatchback to access the jumper cables. Thankfully my heroine, Mrs.E., came to my rescue with a portable jump starter.

On January 7th, I returned to the ditch to continue the search. After two more hours of searching, I found the ring deep in the debris. I texted Cole with the great news, and we met so I could return his beautiful ring!
