Lost Necklace Pensacola Beach – FOUND!!!

Saturday night was day two of what turned out to be an epic weekend. I had been looking forward to this day for a long time because we got to take my 16yr old daughter Haley car shopping for the first time. I knew how important the day would be to us all so I planned on no recoveries at all. I still had to give Blair a call though when I saw her message to me bright and early. I talked to her for awhile and told her how I could help and she explained about how she had lost her necklace on the beach the night before. She explained that it had a lot of sentimental value to her and I gave her two options. I told her that I would be glad to put her in touch with a friend of mine who could be there that morning or I could come out myself the next day. She said that she was sure my friend was great but there was just something about me that made her trust me. Well that made me feel like a million bucks and I told my wife about the awesome compliment. Once again Jeannie came to the rescue and reminded me that we were supposed to take back the kids after dinner and if I was up for an evening hunt, she would go with me. I called Blair back and she was thrilled and we made arrangements to meet on the beach right before sunset. When we got there, we all said hello from a Covid safe distance 😄 and they pointed out the area they had marked where they thought the necklace had fallen. I went over and was setting up my machine. I have learned over the years to open up the metals I can hear when the person doesn’t sound completely sure what it is made out of. I’m glad I did because less than two minutes later I had a tone that was almost like gold but it sounded clean in my ears. I reached down after moving a little sand and pulled out the necklace. Two recoveries in two days in less than five minutes of searching. Awesome!  As you can see, Blair was also thrilled. Thank you for putting your trust in me. I’m glad I was able to help. 👍

Lost Ring Dauphin Island – FOUND!!!

Friday was the start to an awesome weekend. I had taken the day off from work so I had already spent the first part of the day metal Detecting on my own. I was cleaning all of my gear and I came inside to relax for a minute when I got a phone call from an Alabama number. Taylor explained to me that he and his wife Sawyer were vacationing with their whole family in Dauphin Island when Sawyer accidentally lost her ring. They were pretty sure that it was out in the Gulf but they weren’t positive. I was explaining that I probably wouldn’t be able to come until Sunday because it was already after 5:30 pm when my wife walked by and heard “engagement ring”. Luckily for them, my wife is a sucker for any wedding ring recovery so she immediately said, “let’s go, I’ll come with you.”  I said ok and began moving fast and realized that Jeannie didn’t hear the first part that it was an hour and a half away and we were racing sunset. It was a great trip and Dauphin Island is really pretty but when we parked I only had about 30 mins till Sunset and the Gulf was upside down. We spoke for a few minutes and I ran out in the Gulf towards the Oilrig in the distance that was the only marker Taylor had. He said it was chest deep on him so I started walking and it was way out there. Meanwhile my wife, Jeannie had to go move our car because we were in the wrong spot so when I started the hunt she wasn’t back yet. I turned around and Taylor gave me the thumbs up that it looked like the right area so I made the first pass in my grid search. The waves were lifting me up and moving me so I knew it was going to be a tough search. I thought about it and I said to myself that I should probably move a step in because of the tide and the fact that Sawyer is really petite and would probably need shallower water to throw the ball they were playing with. Sure enough, I took 2 steps and I got that beautiful Gold sound and I had her diamond engagement ring in my scoop in a record 3 minutes. 😃. They were so excited and their whole family had been watching from the beach and the condo. One family member told Jeannie as she was running back from the car that I must have been showing off because I was already done. Haha. So glad I could help y’all out. 💍

Lost wedding ring in yard, Lakeland, Fl….Found with a metal detector!

Dave was needing to get some brush cleared along the back side of his property and spent the good part of a day cutting and hauling branches out to the front of the house where the garbage truck could pick it all up. Every now and then he would remove his gloves and wipe the sweat from his brow or take a nice long drink of cold water, and then go back to work. On one occasion as he removed his gloves he felt his ring slip off of his finger and he quickly retrieved his ring and slid it back where it belonged. But as he was finishing up his work he looked at his left hand and saw that his ring had come off again so he tipped up his glove to shake out his ring but this time his glove was empty! He began looking the yard over, thinking he could easily find it but after an hour of combing thru every possible place he could think of—NO RING! The thought of finding it with a metal detector seemed like the most logical thing so he went out and bought a lower end model and started searching the yard from back to the front and along the sides. Dave was determined to find his ring and then it slowly began to dawn that maybe it had dropped into the canal at the back side of the property. A week went by and Dave realized he needed more help and that led him to one of my stories on theringfinders.com web site.

It was a two hour drive to Dave’s home and it was threatening to rain big time but after hearing his story I felt there was a good chance of being able to find his ring so off I went. After arriving and surveying the yard I set up my Garrett ATMax metal detector and went to work. (A few days earlier Dave had a chain link fence installed along the canal–so that was the most challenging part. With the metal fence and the drop off into the canal!). With the sun starting to set I turned my attention to the front of the house where Dave had hauled all the debris. I decided to start by the front door and follow the sidewalk down to the mailbox when I got a loud, sharp signal that showed two inches deep on my display and low and behold there was Dave’s lost wedding ring–just barely visible under the grass. Dave was putting his two little ones to bed at the time so I texted him a short “I found your ring!”

Whenever I am called to help someone look for a lost valuable I always ask my family and my parents, who are 88 and 87 years old, to pray for me. I assure people that God knows exactly where their item is hiding and He just needs to put my coil over the top of it. Again I thanked God for allowing me to find Dave’s lost wedding ring—just in time for their 7th year anniversary!

Ring lost at Fiesta Island found

Richard spent the day fishing on Fiesta Island. While cleaning some of the fish he had caught, he shook his hands to get some of the fish scales off, and his wedding ring went flying into the dry sand. He spent 3 days searching through the sand in that area, even buying a detector and trying his luck, but, he couldn’t find it. His online search brought him to TRF and my contact info. I met Richard at the site in the late afternoon where he showed me where he was setup the day of the loss. I’ve searched many areas of Fiesta Island before, and could understand why he had trouble trying to find his ring without any real experience using a detector. This area is tough even for seasoned pros. People have been burning wooded pallets and other scrap lumber on this Island for decades. Aluminum cans were thrown into the campfires and pull tabs litter the landscape. Anywhere you take a scoop of sand will result in 4-5 metal objects, so, it’s a real challenge to find just one signal in all that mess. It wasn’t a particularly big search area, but, it was slow going. 1 1/2 hours later, I had run 3 different grid lines over the entire search area, my trash pouch was almost full, and still no ring. I attacked ground zero at still a different angle and got another mixed signal on my Equinox…..the kind I’d been digging for the last hour and a half. After filtering out the sand, and pulling out 3 nails and 2 other pieces of melted aluminum, I finally see a ring in the scoop with the shells and rocks. Sure enough, it was Richard’s ring. Richard was overjoyed and was able to head home and give his wife the good news. A pleasure to meet you Richard, and thank you for the reward.

Ring lost at Ocean Beach found

Lorena was visiting town and enjoying Ocean Beach with some friends and placed her ring in the cup holder of her chair. Time to leave, the chair got folded up, and the ring ended up in the dry sand. A common way rings get lost. Searching was fruitless and Lorena had to go back home up north. She contacted me to ask for my help in finding it. She had planned on returning the next morning to show me the search area, but, having already been a full day on the loose, I had her give me directions as to where she was when the ring fell into the sand. She did better than that. She had some photos that were taken while she was there in that location. Knowing that beach well, I could find that spot fairly easily. Finding the ring might be another thing! I waited until the sun went down so I could actually find a parking spot on a Saturday night. Not easy, but, I lucked into one. The beach was still mobbed with party goers. I made a beeline west toward the water and straight through the middle of search area. Before I got there, I see another guy detecting right through where I planned to search. He didn’t stop for any targets, so, i began my grid. Off to the right was a large group still camped on the beach, so, I started on the left. Made a dozen passes or so without so much as a pull tab. Not a good sign. Somebody (maybe the guy who I first saw) had already scoured the area? At that point, the crowd on the right was picking up and leaving. Great, I can now search the other side before I try to track down the other detectorist to see if he may have found the ring. Still not much in the way of targets until I made 5-6 passes and got a solid 6 on my Equinox. That’s usually a foil drink seal, but, I scooped it anyway as small gold can read in that range. Sure enough, a drink seal. Drat! Moved another 2 feet and got another solid 6 reading. Another juice seal I bet, was what I was thinking, but, after scooping it up, I discovered her ring! As I surveyed the spot I found it, I realized that the other detectorist had missed it by no more than a couple of feet! I texted Lorena that she would have to come back down to San Diego after all, but, instead of having to show me where the search area would be, she could pick up her ring. Lost Ring Annapolis, Maryland…Found!

Nick was helping passengers disembark from a tour boat onto the dock when a child fell into the water. He immediately provided assistance, pulling the boy from the water. After the adrenaline subsided from the rescue, Nick realized his beautiful diamond wedding ring was missing. He had another diver look for the ring for several hours that night, but the diver was unable to find it.

Nick called me the next morning and we were able to search that afternoon. Even though Nick was up most of the night with the other diver, he was alert and very detailed in his description of the incident. After meeting and getting the marina manager’s support for my search from Ralph, I prepared for the search. The marina staff and the boat owners we met were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The marina certainly lives up to its slogan as the “finest and friendliest marina in Annapolis”.

The water along the dock is brackish tidal. That day it was twelve feet deep and I could not see a thing. I used a circular search pattern and slowly combed the area. With the noise of all the holiday weekend boats in the water and zero visibility, it was disorienting. I was glad to be tethered to my divemaster (Mrs.E) on the surface. There was the usual trash to be expected around any dock. After about 45 minutes, I heard a target and could feel the shape of the ring. We were so happy to return the ring to Nick!

Lost gold wedding ring in surf, New Symrna Beach, Fl….found with a metal detector!

Mike was enjoying a beautiful day at the beach, playing in the warm ocean water with his children when he felt his wedding ring slide off of his finger! He had lost some weight recently but he never thought his ring would come off that easy. Thankfully Mike made a good mental note of where he was out in the water as he lined up with the north end of the Moontide Condo building and he also noted what time of the day it was which also proved very important. They immediately started searching thru the sand and running their fingers along the bottom desperately hoping to find his lost ring but after a good while they finally gave up. Mike was very discouraged as he had never lost his wedding ring in 13 years and now to have it gone so suddenly…it was very upsetting! Then a friend of his, also named Mike, mentioned hearing about a group of metal detecting specialists that help people find their lost jewelry called theringfinders. That was wonderful news and within the hour he gave me a call and explained his situation. It was evening and the tide was coming up and I assured Mike that according to the information he gave me, the best time to conduct a search would be the following day just before low tide. Mike was a bit concerned that his ring would be washed out to sea but after hearing that rings usually stay in the same area where they are dropped he agreed to meet me on the beach at 12:30pm the next day.

My first target brought everyone to their feet and as they anxiously walked out to see what I had found, I raised a small piece of wire and assured them there may be more wire and bottle caps and coins, etc… On my 8th pass I got a strong signal with my waterproof Whites TDI Beach Hunter metal detector and in the first scoop there was Mike’s lost gold wedding ring! I put it on my finger and waved to the family indicating I had found a ring! They were all thrilled and we were high fiving each other as we made our way up the beach. (I always tell people that I have my family praying that I would find their ring and that God knows exactly where their precious item is and that He would put my coil over it. And today He did just that!).

Lost Wedding Ring In Raleigh – Recovered!

I got a call late in the day that a wedding ring had been lost over the weekend. He’d been working out in the compost pile moving things around, moving dirt to the flower beds, trimming branches, etc. All the fun things that homeowners do. At the end of the day he realized his wedding ring had come off. He borrowed a friend’s metal detector, but hadn’t had any luck recovering the ring, which is when he called me. I met him at his house the next morning, and began searching the flower beds, garden paths, and compost pile. The ring turned out to be in the compost pile, amongst the yard trimmings, food scraps, coffee grounds, etc. As with most husband-ring-recoveries, he was happy, but his wife was overjoyed. Glad to be able to help! Another Happy Ending!

Lost wedding ring in swimming pool, Longwood, Fl….Found and Returned to owner!

Shawn and her husband are planning to move to another house and before they say good bye to their home in Longwood they desperately want to find his wedding ring which slipped off of his finger while swimming in the pool. Apparently the “pool guy” had not been doing his job very well and the water had turned a chalky white and visibility was only a foot or two. And neither Shawn nor her husband could hold their breath long enough to search the deeper part of the pool with their goggles.

Since they were going to be moving out in a few days they were getting very anxious about not being able to find the custom made lost wedding ring and that led them to do an online search for someone to help them. Theringfinders.com came up and after reading a few of my successful recovery stories Shawn decided to give me a call. (You see, most of my requests to find lost items are usually to search in yards, parks, beaches, lakes and places like that and the saying “Like shooting fish in a barrel” came to mind! But of coarse every search I have been on there is always some sort of challenge involved and many times it ends up being more difficult than first imagined.)

So that same day I was able to meet Shawn and as I surveyed the pool I settled on using my scuba tank and 50 foot Gator Gill hose along with my mask, fins, weight belt and flashlight. I entered the pool and slowly sank to the bottom making my way along one side while shinning my light along the bottom hoping to catch a glimpse of gold. I swam to the deep end and there were leaves and debris on the bottom and I carefully went thru each pile trying not to stir everything up. Shawn said her husband’s ring was rather wide so there was no fear that it could slide down the slits in the drain. I slowly circled the drain making my way in wider circles and BINGO!, there was the lost custom made ring just sitting there waiting to be found! I surfaced and made my way to the shallow end and began to shine my light into the house and Shawn came out–all excited and all smiles!

I thank God for allowing me to be a help to this young couple and now their story can continue and they do not have to worry about leaving their wedding ring behind!
