I received the above text just as I was returning home from a thanksgiving dinner. I replied asking Mallorie to call me right away. Her and her husband Nathan were there to meet me at 12:30 am on the beach near Santa Monica Pier.
They believed the diamond ring to be near the gymnastics rings where Nathan and Mallorie had done a little work out. She had put three rings in Nathan’s shirt pocket while she did some stunts on the rings. When she finished He gave her two of the rings. A little later she asked for the other ring. The ring wasn’t in his pocket. They had been in a large area, but assumed it dropped in the sand when he pulled out the first rings.
I grid searched the whole area without a sign of the ring. Then I asked, where else they had been. They did try one other set of gym rings where Nathan had taken his shirt off, laying it on the sand. This was our last hope for the night. I was already making plans to return in the morning to scan the larger beach area. We knew that we were running out of possible places the ring could be hiding. Then came the magic gold tone and 12-24 VDI reading. The beautiful Rose Gold Diamond ring was in my sand scoop.
A nice Thanksgiving present for Mallorie and Nathan.

Jason called after finding TheRingFinders.com while doing a google search for metal detecting information. He asked me if Ira’s available to help him find his wife’s engagement ring lost in the back yard. He would be home all day, so I was able to meet him at that afternoon.

He told me that his wife Celia had thrown a dog toy for their dog to fetch. Three rings came off her finger and they were able to find two thin white gold wedding bands. The larger diamond engagement ring was not found. I was only able to ask Celia a few questions before she had to leave. We searched the area on the backside of the fence and the neighbor’s yard. Three hours of searching with two different detectors did not uncover the missing ring. I could not think of any places that I could use my detectors. So I had to call it a ” no find” day.
A week later I got a call from Jeff Levy a fellow member of TheRingFinders. He had also been called and had been given a different explanation of how the rings were lost. The rings came off when Celia threw the dog toy from the second floor window. This would make it possible to go further or get hung up in 8ft high tree type landscape shrubs. Also a chance it could landed on the pool slide then into the pool.

I returned to give it another try. This time I gave Celia 3 junk rings to throw from the same window, then 4 rings to throw at a different angle. I was able to find the first 3 in her yard and the other 4 were found in the neighbor’s yard.
I had a Garrett Infinium detector with a sniper coil which I probed into the tall shrubs from their side of the fence and I went to the neighbor’s to probe from that side but could not get a signal. After returning to Jason and Celia’s yard we were running out of places to search. Celia and I walked around the pool slide to try the last possible spot. Celia looked down and there was her beautiful solitaire engagement ring. I had knocked it out of the high shrubbery. There was no other explanation of how it got there, we had searched that spot many times and it was right on top of hard packed soil.
It gets crazy when you are getting ready to call it a “no find search” and up pops the ring. Another awesome search and one I’ll never forget. Celia was ecstatic, so was I, the photo shows her happiness.

She called after my reply to her. While talking to Jessica we determined that she wasn’t at Huntington Beach, she was actually at Newport Beach. We also compared the time that it was lost with the tide height. After 11 days I felt we still had a chance to find the ring because this is a hard packed flat beach. Our only concern would be that it is heavily hunted by other detectorists.

I was out the next afternoon at .5ft low tide. After an hour of grid searching out to knee deep water. I got a great signal that turned out to be Jessica’s ring. A strange thing happened when I scooped into the sand, I also captured a large sand crab in the scoop with the ring. I couldn’t believe I was able to find it the first attempt. My plan was to give three or four tries because it is only a couple miles from where I live.

First thing I did was to text Jessica with a picture of the ring. She immediately returned a call to me. It was awesome to hear the excitement she expressed to me. The next morning I was able to mail it to her by next day mail. It was worth the extra money to get it to her ASAP. No buddy can be anymore surprised than me that this ring was lost in 4 or 5ft. of water and went through more than 20 tide changes, still it stayed within range to be found with a metal detector. I’m getting used to seeing miracles, one reason I say “I Will Try Anywhere”.

 

Small Gold Heirloom Ring more than 60 Years old lost in sand two weeks ago.. Brittany called late in the afternoon. She told me that she was telling a friend about losing a ring in the sand. Her friend told her about TheRingFinders.com, so Brittany googled the website contacting me. She apologized that she she hadn’t called me earlier because she didn’t know a service like this existed. She said that she thought it was a long shot but worth a call.
It was a family heirloom that had belonged to fiancé Nick’s grandmother. For the past few weeks it has haunted her that they knew it fell into the sand that day. After hours of searching that day they had to leave thinking I was impossible to find such a small ring in so much dry sand.
We talked for a few minutes on the phone. She said it definitely fell out of their backpack near the towel line of the beach. Normally this area of the beach doesn’t get detected much. It was worth a try to give it an hour search. I didn’t need her to meet me there because, I knew the exact location.
After 30 minutes of running 40ft. grid lines on my 8th pass. I got a nice 12-06 ID reading on my CTX Minelab metal detector. The nice low solid tone indicated the gold ring would be in my scoop and it turned out to be right on point.. Brittany’s ring was there ready to be returned before the night was finished. We met at at a local Starbucks in less than two hours after she called me.. Two weeks of worrying were over and now the ring is where it belongs.

Casey came in from surfing to take his ring off, because he felt his fingers shrinking in the cold water. As he knelt down next to his surfboard in the sand, he pulled his ring off his finger. The ring just popped off suddenly flying in the sand. It was a plain white gold band that represented 10 years of marriage.

After asking Casey a couple questions about what had happened, I consoled him that if he could wait in the area we could easily find his ring. We met about 45 minutes later.
He showed me his actions as best he could remember. I started a grid that I thought would be a quick find. 20’x 20′ area. No ring! We moved the surfboard starting to grid search the other side. Boom! The sweet sound of gold. Casey’s ring in the scoop. Amazing how far the ring flew as he pulled the ring from his finger. Casey is from Chicago, now living and working in sunny So.Cal.
