Lost Gold Family Heirloom Ring/Vancouver, BC… Found

I was at work when I received a phone call from a gentleman who told me that his daughter had lost her ring at the park. He asked if I could help her,  I said of course, I asked him to have his daughter call me so I can discuss the search time and place.

After talking to Sabrina for approximately 10 minutes in regards to her lost ring, I felt confident we would find it. I also knew how important it was to find because it was gifted to her by her late grandmother, this ring meant the world to her! I could hear it in her voice!

I arrived at 9 PM on the side of the street where I met Sabrina and her father, we walked to the park and she show me what had happened and where she was sitting when the ring came off her finger. I did a reenactment and watch my ring land on the sidewalk, this made me think if they hadn’t checked the sidewalk someone may have already found it. Sabrina was very confident that she saw the ring bounce up off the pavement and go into the bushes along the side of the walkway.

I started my search and after close to an hour and a half and no ring I decided to look under the bench that she was sitting on, to my surprise there was her beautiful gold ring! It was very dark so I put the ring in my hand and told them I needed to go back to my car and get another metal detector.

I did this because it was so dark I knew I wouldn’t be able to get the footage of her smile and reaction when I surprised her with the ring… When we got to the car I started up my camera and videotaped her by asking  a couple of questions about the ring and the search.

I love getting the reactions of people for the first time when they see their ring… it’s priceless!!

Dear John,
Today you made what seemed to me like the impossible happen. The little diamond moon charm that meant so much to me and my sister and was no bigger than my pinkie fingernail is in my hand.
When my sister’s necklace broke and the charm fell into the sand yesterday, we hunted for over an hour with no luck. Then a wonderful 8-year-old girl we didn’t know saw us looking and offered her help. She and her brother and father used their metal detector and sieve for at least another hour before we all decided that we had to let it go.
But I don’t let things go that easily, so when I got home, I went online and found your website. When I called, you were calm and confident. you said that if the charm was there, we would find it.
The phrase “needle in a haystack” kept running through my mind on my way to meet you. The beach is so big and the sand can bury something that small so easily, never to be seen again.
But once I was able to show you the area where the charm had fallen, it was only a matter of minutes before you turned up the spot of sand where the little charm lay, still partially buried, but sparkling in the sun. What a happy moment! I will never forget it.
Your calm, confident patience were just what was needed for the job, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making what seemed like the impossible happen.

Gold Ring recovered in Green Bay field

One of my students was walking his dog in a field and noticed his ring was missing.   He called me, and I covered the area he thought he had lost his ring in for an hour with no luck.   So, I widened the search and found it 10 feet from where it was accidentally flicked off!   Gold rings are heavy, and they do fly!    From frowns to smiles in no time!

Ring found at Ocean Beach

Richard called me to say that he accidentally lost his wife Simone’s gold ring in the sand at Ocean Beach,  She had given him the ring so that she wouldn’t go into the ocean with it and lose it! Richard had it on his pinky when the unthinkable happened and it ended up in the dry sand. Never fear, The Ring Finders are here! I grabbed my gear, asked the wife to come along in case there wasn’t any parking, and headed out the door. Turns out there was plenty of parking, so, my wife and I went over and met Richard and Simone. We got the story and the approximate search area where I went to work. Not 30 seconds later, I get a nice solid 9 on my Equinox 800. Poked my TRX pin pointer into the sand and chased a signal for a few seconds until I cornered it and pulled a pretty little gold ring back into the sunlight. A relieved Richard and a happy Simone were now able to enjoy the rest of the day. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.

Wedding Ring Lost At Topsail Beach Found & Returned

Christian was spending a beautiful day on the beach with his 9 month old along his side.  For safe keeping, Christian placed his wedding ring in one of his shoes that he had removed.  Seeing that his little one needed attention, he leaned over to tend to his child when his foot kicked and accidentally kicked the shoe containing the ring.

After failing to locate the ring is the soft sand, he resorted to the internet and called me to assist.  I sensed an urgency in his voice and headed to his location promptly.  Christian showed me the lines in the sand I asked him to mark the boundaries of where he believed the ring to be located.  Starting in the middle of his box it was only a couple of search lines before his ring spoke to my detector.  As the sand sifted through my fingers his wedding ring appeared.

Engagement ring found and returned from private beach in Eastham Massachusetts

Erika and her family were visiting the cape from Canada, they were staying a very short walk from a private beach in Eastham. While sitting in her beach chair in the water her ring came off her finger and buried in the sand in about 1ft of water . I received a text from her around 1030pm on aug 26 but my phone was in my truck, Monday morning came around and I responded to her when I got to work and we made arrangements to meet after I got out of work. I got to the house they were staying at around 6pm we walked to the beach and about 10 minutes later the ring was back on her finger

Lost charm found in the sand on the beach Strathmere NJ By Ring Finders South Jersey

Not all items recovered are valuable in the sense of monetary value.  Often, an item has more sentimental value then anyone could imagine.  I received a call from Sandra earlier in the day about a 14k white gold charm that was lost in the sand while she and her sister were on the beach in Strathmere, New Jersey. The charm belongs to her sister, Bonnie, who was able to find the chain with the other two charms but not the moon.  Each charm is very special to both sisters because they represent their mother, father & Jesus.  Sandra called me without her sister knowing because she didn’t want Bonnie to know if the charm was not found.  After I gridded out the approximate location where they were sitting yesterday and after a quick search with the Minelab Equinox 800, the charm gave a signal and was in the scoop!

Wedding Ring Lost at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

My wife woke me early this morning; my phone was ringing. I did not get to it in time to answer, but waited to see if the person calling would leave a message, he did. It was Matt, who had lost his ring at the beach the night before. I called him back immediately and we talked a bit, and from what he explained to me I thought his ring may be gone for good. The beach is one of the cleanest beaches in Southern California because the County cleans it daily with sifting machines that pick up virtually everything. I let him know that if he would meet me there in 30 minutes, that I would leave right away in order to try and beat the machines.

When I got there, I could see Matt out in the sand doing what I have termed, “the lost ring shuffle”, where someone is trying to find their ring by dragging their feet through the sand in grid lines. When I got out to him, I could see where the sifter had taken a swing very close to his grid lines, and also out on the towel line closer to the slope. He explained to me that he believed the sifter had gone outside the possible loss area. I set up to grid, turned my machine on, took one swing, got a good signal, put the scoop in and dumped the sand, and there peeking out was the ring. I reached down, grabbed it, and held it out to Matt, who was in total disbelief. He had told me that the night before he gave the ring to his wife to hold while he went to the water with their child. While he was gone his wife was dealing with their beach equipment when the ring fell off her finger, and was gone in the sand. She had a hard night, feeling guilty for the loss, but today all joy is restored. What a great morning. I then went home and had my breakfast and coffee.

Lost hearing aid in Cedar Hills, Utah: Found

I got a text message from Rod asking if my equipment could find a hearing aid that had been lost in the grass. I have found hearing aids before, so I told him I thought I could. I asked him to meet me at the church where it was lost, and to bring a similar hearing aid so I could hear how it sounded, so I would know what to listen for to find the lost one. Unfortunately, his hearing aids were very small, and my detector would hardly make a peep when passing over the spare he brought. That meant that I could probably not find his lost one. I spent several minutes searching, but finally decided that my equipment just wasn’t sensitive enough to tell the difference between the tiny hearing aid and the random specks of garbage metal spread all over the church lawn. I told Rod that I probably couldn’t find it. I hate giving up, so a spent maybe an hour searching the whole lawn where it might have been lost, methodically going back and forth to search every square inch. As I detect, I keep my eyes on the ground, watching for anything that might be there. I found the tiny hearing aid with my eyes, rather than my detector! As I swung slowly back and forth, there was the hearing aid, hiding in the grass. Rod was happy to have his expensive hearing aid back!

Diamond Wedding Set, Soldered, Lost in the Sand at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found and Joyfully Returned.

Jose called last night about 7:00 PM asking if I was the guy who finds rings, and I told him I was definitely one of the guys who help people find their lost rings. He told me his wife had lost her wedding and engagement rings (they were soldered together) at the beach earlier that day. After we talked for while and I asked a lot of questions, I let him know I was on my way, and would let him know when I arrived.

When I got to the beach it was already dark, and they were waiting in the parking lot. I met his wife Esmeralda and we talked about the loss as we walked out to the area they believed the loss to have occurred. I found out that she had these rings for 17 years. Esmeralda remembered taking her rings off to put on sunscreen and putting the rings in her shorts pocket. Later as they were getting ready to leave, she shook her pants out, and ring was gone into the soft sand. They told me they had searched the sand for over 3 hours before they called me, so by the time I arrived it had been at least 4 to 5 hours since they knew the ring was lost. When we got back to the area the darkness made it difficult to identify the exact spot they were, and they gave me an estimated area to search, so I began. I kept working my way out pulling up bottle cap after bottle cap. Finally After they thought I was going out of the area they thought the rings might have been lost, I showed them the bottle caps. I had at least 60 by that time, and I knew that for every dig I make their anticipation rate goes up, and then down until people begin to get discouraged. When we discussed the possibilities, Jose and Esmeralda were basically ready to throw in the towel, but I said “look, none of us has to go to work tomorrow, so I will continue”. Even at that they went back over by the parking lot as I continued my search. I searched down the slope, and then began my search in the opposite direction from my beginning search, when after about 5 passes and over 100 bottle caps later, one broken bottle, and a total search time of about 2 hours, one more good signal, and I had a beautiful set of diamond rings in my scoop. I threw away all the trash, and headed back to the parking lot with the rings on my little finger. As I got closer Jose and Esmeralda saw me coming and rose to meet me. I was looking down at the sand when I explained how I searched each area without any luck, but when I touched on the last area, I said, “AND THEN I FOUND THIS” as I opened my hand to show the rings. Esmeralda immediately went to tears and gave me a big hug, while Jose paced back and forth in total disbelief. I know that after all that time of their searching, and then watching me pull up bottle cap after bottle cap, they thought it would not be possible to find the rings, but WE ARE THE RING FINDERS, and if it is there we can find it. What an awesome couple, what an awesome night!

Steve is an absolute God send! He is professional, kind, courteous and relentless! My husband and I were at Santa Monica Beach where I took off my wedding bands and placed them in my shorts pocket. About three or so hours later I realized that I did not have my rings on and that I had left them in my pocket. When I went to go look in the pocket, which I had hung on our beach chair, I found out with great disbelief, and immediate alarm that my rings were missing. I immediately started to cry and panic, while my husband and I dug through the sand all around us. Hours later we decided to ask the lifeguard if anyone turned any rings in to him but to our dismay, he said no. He did say however, that he had some cards for people who found lost jewelry. I called the person on the first card that was handed to me but the phone just rang and rang. I called again and still got no answer. My husband called the person, Steve Smith, using the information on the second card and he received a quick and friendly answer. We were concerned that it was close to 8:00 pm, which is when the beach parking lot closed, but Steve stayed calm and told my husband that he would find other parking and for us not to worry about that. That in itself let me know how great a person Steve was without even meeting him. We were assured that he would come out as soon as possible -and he did. My husband and I told ourselves that we had a lot of faith and hope that the person that God sent to us would find our rings, but we’re also realistic. The fact of the matter was that it was past 8 PM at night and dark, plus we were sitting on a huge beach- sure we gave Steve an approximation as to where we were sitting, but with so many beach visitors moving around in the sand all day long, what were the chances of the rings been recovered? Our hearts aches knowing that there was a chance that we would never recover the wedding bands that my husband placed on my finger at our wedding a little over 17 years ago. We went through so many emotions that night, including a lot of praying as well as a lot of crying. When we wanted to give up, Steve was the first to say that he had all night and that we would get them back. This gave me and my husband great hope once again. About 2 1/2 hours after calling Steve out, he came walking back towards us and let us know about the specific effort he made to find our rings. Steve let us know that he found a lot of bottle caps and other items that were not our rings. As he talked about the process, I felt a sense of dread and great loss but at the same time I felt thankful that Steve spent so much time and energy really trying to help us. Just then, Steve pulled out my wedding rings from his fanny pack. He kept talking but I couldn’t hear anything else out of his mouth, I just saw my cherished rings and immediately started sobbing and with much gratitude, I gave Steve the biggest hug. He was truly our Angel that night. My husband and I are very thankful beyond words for all the effort that Steve put in to find something that is invaluable to us. If you or a loved one has lost a ring or another item that a metal detector can locate, Steve is your man!
