Lost Platinum Diamond Stud Earring Found in The Grass in St Clair Shores MI

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

What’s All The BUZZ About?

I talked briefly this morning with this attractive young lady but our phone connection was bad all I got was she was out in the yard catching up with her friend and sunning herself when a bee kept buzzing around her and a piece of jewelry was lost. I texted for the address and a time we could meet. When I got there I asked what’s all the buzz about? That got her to smile.
While swatting at the bee she clipped her ear and out came one of her earrings that she received for Christmas last year.
Getting a read from the matching one I now had the info I needed. Searching carefully there were similar items below ground that came in at the same or approx. numbers as the earring. Closing in on the available search area we looked at each other and without words we all could sense the tension in the air wondering if the earring would be found. I moved the metal chair out of the detector’s way and I got a very solid signal. Reaching down into the grass revealed this beautiful platinum and diamond stud earring! I waved them over and I pointed where it was. She leaned over, pulled it from the grass and exclaimed ….you found it! Lots of exclamations of excitement, high fives and dancing in place followed!
Upon leaving I said this is my kind of buzz, save the gossip for the bees.

September 22nd, 2020: Found a ring missing for 5 years, used a new detector to overcome interference, and teamed up with another Ring Finder!

Sandy called me in April after reading about some of my recoveries on the internet. Her husband Alan, lost his ring about 5 years ago somewhere between their garage and the end of the long driveway. My first search attempt was especially significant because it was very close to their 50th wedding anniversary. I searched for several hours with my reliable ATMax, and found many targets. One area I had trouble with was at the end of the driveway. There were underground cables producing a lot of interference with my detector. Despite adjusting my metal detector’s frequencies, sensitivity, and ground balance, I couldn’t reliably search the area. I tried another detector, but it lacked the discrimination necessary to ignore many old barbed wire pieces. I told Sandy I’d be back.

I considered buying an Equinox 800 after recommendations from others, including my friend and fellow Ringfinder, Brian Rudolph. I researched the detector’s capabilities and was impressed with the technology allowing it to function in areas with interference. So, I bought one specifically to look for this ring. I tried my new detector a few times around my neighborhood until I felt comfortable with the settings. Since the search area was so large, I called my friend Ray and asked him to join me. Ray is also an excellent Ringfinder (https://theringfinders.com/Raymond.Jones/), and I knew he would be a great help covering such a large area.

We met on a beautiful morning on the 22nd of September and planned to search for several hours. Ray started at the top of the hill by the garage, and I worked at the end of the driveway where I experienced the interference in April. I set my Equinox to Park 1, and the frequency to 20 kHz. This resulted in nice clean signals. In less than an hour I found the ring two inches under the soil.

Five Years Buried

Reunited

Sandy Smile!

All recoveries are special, and this one was no exception. When I handed the ring to Sandy, she dropped some laundry she was holding and with an expression of surprise and joy exclaimed “I don’t believe it!”

Sandy, Ray and I basked in that moment of happiness and the return of Alan’s ring, missing for 5 years!

Renn told me that the earring was very sentimental to her, she had cried for a couple of days they had spent hours racking and searching for this tine earring with no luck, after asking Renn a few questions I agreed to do a search on Friday morning.

I arrived at 9:30 am within forty five minutes I found the earring in the meddle of the yard and not they area where Renn thought the Earring was lost I knocked on the back door and showed his parents the earring they could not believe that I found the earring considering the yard was huge and the leaves are falling making it difficult to find the earring .

Thank you Renn for entrusting me to locate and return your daughters earring.

I received a call from Robert the other day. He swims at the beach every day, and usually buries his keys under his towel to keep them safe while he is swimming. The problem that day was that when he was done, he grabbed his belongings, towel, and headed for the showers. When he realized he had left his keys, he went back to find them. He tried to find the exact spot he had bee, but there is so much space it is hard to find the exact spot. I told him I was on my way.

When I got there I found Robert, and he showed me where he believed the keys to be. I could see that he had searched a rather large area, and I knew that he had covered a lot of ground. He started me out where he thought he might have been. I began my search, and began to expand outward as I searched. I found some trash metal, but for the most part the beach was pretty clean. I continued going over the area Robert had previously searched knowing that a lot of times things just move around as people push through the sand. I covered a couple of areas he had searched, and went over to the third area, and began a new search. I made 3 passes, and then received a good signal, dug and lifted Robert’s keys from the sand. He had gone to use the facilities, and was on his way back when I held his keys up. He was very happy to know that he could get in his car, and be able to drive home. I was glad to have made his day!

Pam called me regarding her lost wedding ring. We talked, and she told me she had lost it at the beach 2 days before, and my heart dropped, because time ALWAYS works against a successful recovery. I then began my litany of questions, and as she described where it was lost, my hopes of a recovery buoyed. We arranged to meet at the beach where she would take me to the area of the loss, and I was on my way.

When I arrived Pam met me, and took me out to the beach to show me the area. When we got there I could see that the total area was not big, but she said that there was also another spot if this one was not successful. I began my search right where she said she had put her chair. She had been sitting there pulling her sunblock gloves on and off, and suspected that is the reason the ring came off. As I searched Pam went out and looked out over the water. I found a couple of bottle caps, and pull tabs before getting a strong double beep in the headphones. I put in the scoop, and raised it up with a huge beautiful diamond ring in it. Pam had not described it to me before I began, and I had no problem knowing that this beauty was her ring. I said out loud that it must be a beautiful ring, and she turned to see me holding it up for her. Pam was stricken with unbelief, that ring was found, but overcome with happiness. It was great to experience her joy, and be able to return a ring she had had for decades, and thought was gone forever. What a wonderful day!

Pam sent the following testimonial:

Dear Ringfinders,

I just want to acknowledge the professionalism of Steve Smith of Ringfinders.
From the moment I reached out to him I knew this man was a professional.

His care in asking the right questions. His ability to arrive quickly. His compassion and quiet fortitude in his search.

I would call him an angel. I had lost my wedding ring and I had all but lost hope of recovery. I believed it would be a real miracle to find my ring after 3 days lost at the beach. He found it in 5 minutes! It was completely miraculous.

Steve is a the real deal. A truly nice person wanting to help others. What a great job!

So grateful to have met this wonderful person!

Pam1

*** Received a call from a lady who had lost her cellphone at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, CA. She had spent the day on the beach with her son after many weeks of staying at home with this virus problem.

It was late in the afternoon noon so I did not waste time asking too many questions. I jumped into my car to drive the 12 miles to her location. Parking can be a time consuming problem but I was lucky to get a parking space. She didn’t have a phone so meeting up with her was a matter of her spotting me on the beach.

The afternoon wind was starting to cool things off and everybody was beginning to leave the beach. I’m sure she was wanting to get home as soon as possible. Looking at a big hole that her son had dug, I began to swing my detector there. Boom! First signal was the cellphone.

She was happy to be able to get on the road with her cellphone which is a necessary item in most of our lives today.

*** Demi was at Seal Beach, CA. when she gave her engagement ring to her fiancé to hold while she went swimming. When she returned to their place on the beach, her fiancé had lost the diamond engagement ring somewhere in the sand.

She was given my referral by another  person on the beach. When I received the call I asked her what beach is she at. Her answer was Seal Beach. Another coincidence, I was also at Seal Beach only a block away from Demi and her fiancé.

I did have to go to my vehicle to grab my detector before meeting them 15 minutes later. As we walked to their set up on the beach they told me it could be any where around their beach blanket or chairs.

I started at the chairs with a few quick swings In  few minutes I had her precious diamond engagement ring in my scoop. Timing is important, this beach has a very efficient cleanup crew. The  ring may have not survived the sifting machine the next morning. Many people were there to witness the recovery and I’m sure they will know there is a service like TheRingFinders if they ever need help finding a lost ring.

***Kelly had dropped her small gold with diamond earring in the sand while enjoying a family beach party at Newport Beach, CA. This was one of a set of earrings that she had for more than fifteen years. A gift from a special friend and very sentimental to Kelly.

After everybody in their group attempted to find the very small earring. Kelly was given my information by someone who found TheRingFinders directory online.

They were only a couple miles from my home. Parking was provided for me in front of their garage. In the early afternoon it can take an hour to  find parking. I had not questioned them very much on the phone. I just knew it was a small gold diamond earring. I chose to take my XP Deus metal detector with the high frequency coil and a very fine mesh sand scoop.
I was shown the small 10’x10’ area. This could be a tough one because Kelly told me it was an open earring. Also it could have been buried out of detection range by the others that had moved a lot of sand searching by hand.

It was a few minutes before I received a good signal that could be small gold. YES! Success with Kelly’s earring was in my scoop. Everybody was elated and there were several of the other people on the beach cheered on.

Basically they all just accepted that a metal detector can find earrings in the sand. They don’t know that not all metal detectors can find these small pieces of gold, especially if the earring is open. I know that it wasn’t an easy find. It makes me happy to know I have the best equipment and I have spent hours learning how to be efficient with my state of the art detectors.
