Three times a charm.  Once maybe, twice impossible, but three times…she’s lost her boyfriends ring.  Well, she called the right place to help recover her lost ring.  The rest is history, the platinum ring is back on his finder, and they lived happily ever after.  Sounds like a fairy tail, but it’s a true story.

Gold Pendant Lost at Bonita Beach Found and Returned to Owner

While swimming with her family visiting from Texas, Sue noticed that her gold chain had somehow opened and that her pendant had dropped off.  Well, the rest is history and a picture is worth a thousand word.  The pendant found and returned, back in its rightful place.

Ring Found in Burlington Vermont: The Ring Finders

I got a call this afternoon from a fellow who was our working in his garden and lost his wedding band. The last thing he had done was lay down a couple layers of newspaper in between all the plants and cover all that with straw. He said this system helps keep the weeds under control. When he was walking back to the house he realized his ring wasn’t on his finger. His heart sank fast. He wasn’t able to find it after checking all gloves, pockets and around the garden. So, he tried Googling where to rent a metal detector and one of my postings came up.

I told him I would be there just as fast as I could pack all my equipment into the car. When I got there he showed me the likeliest area to search. I saw all the metal fencing and wire tomato cages and knew this could be a challenging search. Luckily the search area was pretty small.

I began the search and started getting lots of signals from nails, wire and staples. Every time I got a signal and pulled up scrap metal I could hear him quietly going through the emotional roller coaster. Obviously this ring meant an awful lot to him. After he removed all the tomato cages I started going over the garden again. Soon I got a snapping signal with gold numbers on my display. There it was, hiding in the mulch. I passed it to him and could see a very relieved person! We are practicing social distancing because of Covid 19 being still in the area, so no hug or handshake. None was needed, the airwaves were full of his happiness!!

I love this hobby!

Beautiful, sentimental silver ring recovered and returned in Willow Grove, PA

Madison found me through the online directory and contacted me on June 10, 2020. She conveyed to me that her young son was playing with her beautiful, David Yurman, silver ring after she had left it on the back patio table. He had it on his finger and was running around her small backyard in Willow Grove, PA when all of a sudden she noticed it was no longer on his little finger. After spending hours on her hands and knees looking for it she decided to contact me for help. I arrived at her house on the afternoon of June 12th and, as always, I asked her to go through exactly what happened step-by-step with a re-enactment of actions leading to the lost ring. I also always do a quick demonstration of how my metal detector works so she could feel confident that if the ring is there I will find it. I turned my machine on and started sweeping where she thought it most likely fell and less then 60 seconds later I got a perfect silver ring tone in my headphones. I bent over and pushed the grass aside and there was her beautiful ring! Besides being extremely happy to see her ring again she was amazed because she was 100% sure she had searched that area on her hands and knees. I was very happy to be able to recover and return such a beautiful ring to its rightful owner!

Lost Ring in Back Yard Lemon Heights Orange County

“The one that got away, 4 years later the story ends!”

As a RingFinder, we have those calls that you remember well, and some of them stand out because you just couldn’t find the item through your best efforts and it leaves you wondering….
I went out on a Lost Ring call back in 2017 in a very exclusive neighborhood in Lemon Heights, CA, at a beautiful hilltop estate!  The wife contacted me and told me she had lost her wedding ring and was very eloquent about her day and detailed as to what she did and where she went. Two search areas, one inside the family room containing several very thick fur rugs, and the backyard areas.  How hard could it be?
I searched the rugs and around the room using my pin pointer because the detector was picking up every piece of rebar and screw in the wood over concrete floor. No luck.
Going into the backyard was like walking into a part of Disneyland! This place was several acres of landscape, hardscape and pool. She remembered picking up the dog’s poo, so that is always fun to search plastic bags of…  and she played with dog throwing the ball into the pool and it could have come off then?  I searched several hours, every planter, plant, grotto, bush, potted plant, inside the pool, on top of the rock overhangs over the pool area, walkways, steps, you name it. I used three different detectors, my AT-MAX, PinPointer and my PI Machine.  Never found it.
Today, I got a call from her, as she remembered me telling her to call if she ever found it. Well turns out she found it exactly one year later in 2018, but could never find my number because she lost my business card, though I am on TheRingFinders.com she neglected to check there.
Today she found my card, and called.
She found the ring in a filing cabinet one year later, underneath the folders in the bottom of the drawer!  She now remembers that day was very hectic and she had taken off the ring while filing and it must have gotten knocked into the drawer and between the folders!
This was a very expensive ring!  She had waited until 6 months afterwards and filed their only homeowners claim for it, got paid and she had purchased a new ring.  After finding it, she was so filled with regret at filing the claim that she called the insurance company and explained what happened, and ended up having to pay them back in full, lol  She now has two rings, and with calling me as promised, almost 4 years ago now, a clear conscience on doing the right thing, her journey of the ring is complete.  I am so glad to hear that it was not missed by me in my searching and that she was reunited with it.

Lost Diamond Ring Westport, Massachusetts

A lost ring in Westport, Massachusetts, brought me to Horseneck Beach State Reservation. Adjacent to the cow farm I was hired to search, lie hundreds of acres of barrier beach and salt marsh. As I drove through, I quickly realize why this particular area is one of the most popular in the Massachusetts State Park System. Miles of pebble stone beach overlooking Buzzards Bay make this a one-of-a-kind destination for bird watching, camping, swimming, fishing, boating, biking, and many other recreational activities. After a couple of hours of driving and a bit of tourism, I finally arrived at the cow farm to search a tomato patch for a lost diamond ring. I was greeted by the ring owner’s parents and was provided a hand-drawn map of the landmarks and activities of that dark day when the ring was lost. The loving family’s effort to find the ring and the touching backstory gave me an unbelievable drive to find what is more than just a lost ring.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Backstory

“Sam worked with his mom and my sister to create this ring for me – the stone he chose is my birthstone, aquamarine, it’s also the color of his eyes. His eyes are a window to his soul, and every time I look at the stone, I think about looking into his eyes and my gratitude for his soul EXPLODES (and all sort of other cheesy cliche things that my heart genuinely feels for this INCREDIBLE MAN).

Sam and I hiked a quarter of a mile into a rustic cabin that we’ve enjoyed staying at before in Hope, ME, last March, right around my bday. We trudged up in 1-2 foot snow to a cabin with no heat or running water. Sam decided to hike up in his flimsy. Sneakers rather than put his boots on. In retrospect, he worried about the ring falling out of his pocket in the process of changing his shoes. We got everything up to the cabin, started a fire in the woodstove, and we began to warm our buns by the fire. Then Sam turned to me and said, “Oh no, I forgot something down at the car.” To which I responded with, “Sorry, love, there’s no way we’re going back down there.” Then he said, “Oh wait, no, it’s right here!” and got down on a knee in front of the stove and proposed to me. We both cried and enjoyed a night of reverie. I had planned to propose to him the next day, and did! A joint proposal – something I feel captures our union and partnership, the desire to have the other heard and seen.”

The Search

Luckily, the ground was clear of vegetation and stalks due to the recent tomato harvest – ideal search conditions for a metal detector. Except for the single ginormous rhubarb plant right where the X on the map marked the location where the ring was taken off her finger and placed in her bra! No sign of the ring yet as I carefully searched in-between each rhubarb shoot. I got a few signals that turned out to be lead scraps, pull tabs, and coins moving on to the remaining garden area. All of these finds are evidence the ring could still be here, even though the family already searched with a rented metal detector. In the garden center, I heard a soft signal and brushed away the top layer of dirt. Ring found! Sitting just under the surface, I plucked the lost diamond ring from the soil and proudly waved in front of the family members like a winning lottery ticket! We rinsed and cleaned off the ring for a good photo. The mom and dad made a video call to their worried daughter and revealed the good news! I think there were tears of joy, but I couldn’t tell because my COVID-19 mask was fogging up my sunglasses, and I couldn’t see anything. Another lost ring reunited with its owner!

The Ring Owner

The Parents

Lost Expensive Carbon Fiber JETSURF Hood at Leschi Seattle WA

Here in Seattle we have had some really good weather and with good weather comes the water sports. Dakota contacted me seeking dive recovery support for an expensive carbon fiber lid he lost at the dock from his latest toy. We had a nice chat on the phone where he explained he had this super exciting carbon fiber surfboard that has a gas engine inside of the hull. However when he was moving the board around on the dock the lid came off, went into the lake and sank to 40 feet. The good news was that this just happened and they knew the drop zone precisely. The lid was brightly painted on one side and has a bright colored decal on the back side. Being rather large in size I had all the confidence that it would be a visual find on the surface of the silty lake bottom. I also learned that in all four corners there were metal latching pins on this part so if the silt got too aggressive I would have all opportunity to locate it with my metal detector as a backup plan.

As with many of these dock recovery missions there is typically a stock pile of trash and assorted items that fall into our water ways. Always a great opportunity for a dive in, trash out session as well.

Lost rings in Wildwood Crest NJ, FOUND!

First recovery of 2020 is a success. Received a call from Jackie explaining that she believes she “may” have inadvertently dropped her FOUR rings yesterday while at the beach with her family. After gathering some details I met up with Jackie and her husband, at the beach, about 30 minutes later. This recovery took less than five minutes. Literally walked two steps into the search area and BAM all four popped out of the shallow sand. Jackie broke down immediately, understandably, as one of the four rings belonged to her mother. No hugs due to COVID but super happy to say the least. She is very fortunate that these rings survived in the area they were in for an entire day without being found by a free lance Detectorist.

Janet called me and was very emotional over the recent loss of her wedding ring in her yard. She told me she was married fifty-two years to her husband that recently passed. She was   devastated at the fact she just lost her yellow gold baguette diamond wedding band of thirty years. It meant everything to her for all the memories this ring represented and she was very upset that it was now missing from her finger.

She told me that it had become loose in recent times and on a few occasions it slipped off her finger but she was always able to find it. Because of this she was very aware of the loose fitting wedding ring and was constantly fiddling with it making sure it was still on her finger.

However just a few days prior to our conversation she told me she had walked down her gravel drive way to her mail box. She collected a few small pieces of mail, came back to her garage where she placed the mail down then walked over to her front yard. She then picked up a few sticks and went over to pull some of the ivy vines off a tree trunk before it choked the tree out. She said with a lot of certainty as soon as she walked out of the ivy it came to her immediate attention that her cherished wedding ring of thirty years was no longer on her finger and missing! She then went back into the ivy and started searching for her ring to no avail. Her daughter and son-in-law arrived thereafter to assist her by cutting back the ivy vines in front of the tree. They picked through all the pieces before placing the scraps into a box. They continued to raked the bits up and looked as hard as they could. All this and still no ring was found. After the search efforts in the yard Janet’s daughter did some searching online and found TheRingFinders.com and told her mother to give me a call. 

We believed the ring to be safe on her private property so we scheduled a search with a early morning start. Janet pointed out exactly where she walked and her actions that helped put me in the correct spots. With a confident and experienced effort I conducted the search fo her lost wedding ring.
