Lost Wedding Band while Tube Fishing at Lake Lavon,Tx

We received an email from Crystal after she did a exhaustive google search to find someone to help her husband find his wedding ring.  Her  husband Aaron had been tube fishing on Lake Lavon in Texas all day long.  He had no idea where he lost the ring and I think really did not expect us to find it.

Trying to coordinate schedules for us to make the hour drive out to the lake took several days, so today when we all arrived at the lake the ring had been lost for 9 days.  We arrived about 9am and met Aaron & Crystal,  remember he was very unsure where he lost the ring, in fact he thought it was probably out in 20-25 ft deep water where he had been tube fishing.

Aaron showed us the area where he and his buddy cleaned the fish in a picnic area.  Ellen & I got out both of our Garrett ATPro’s and began the search.  Aaron and Crystal took a walk down the beach while we were detecting.  We had only been there 20 minutes when we spotted the Silver Carbonite Wedding Band.  We could not believe we found it, this was one of those searches you go on almost knowing its going to be a long shot at best.

BUT, it turned into a awesome day.  Ellen & I walked down the beach and Aaron & his wife spotted us and began walking back our way.  As we got close to them I said “Boy the lake is really low” instantly you could see their faces get a little sad thinking we had not  found the ring and already given up.

THEN, I said, “Aaron let me ask you a question, would you like to have this back” and I held up his ring.  As you can see in the pictures, they were ecstatic and could not thank us enough.

What a wonderful hobby we have and the joy we get to bring to people when we find their lost item.

Lost ring at Coronado Beach Found!

      As I was finishing up the story of my last ring recovery, I received a call from Scott who was attending a wedding at the Hotel Del Coronado. You my remember this hotel if you’ve seen the movie, Some Like it Hot, with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis. Anyway, he was seated with his family at some tables outside on the sand when he decided to let his young daughter handle his wedding ring. Even though he impressed upon her the importance of a wedding ring, she had no problem burying it in the sand! After an attempt to sift through the sand with fingers without success, he searched online for help and contacted me through the Ring Finders site. As luck would have it, I was able to come right over and do a search before dinner figuring it should be a fairly easy recovery since they hadn’t left the search area and it was a very small area to search. If course, I’ve thought that in the past at times, and had long, difficult ones instead.

      This time we were in luck and it took maybe two swings of the loop before I had a nice gold sound in my sites. About 3 inches under the sand I pulled out Scott’s  nice wedding band. It had taken me 100 time longer to find a parking spot at the beach that day than the ring! All turned out well and no major delays in the after-wedding festivities. As Scott found out, save your money buying or renting a metal detector to use yourself, and get not only a detector, but, someone who has some experience using one too. It can save a lot of time and frustration. It was  a pleasure to meet you Scott, and thanks for the reward to help keep this service going.

Chunky – White Gold – with 1 ct. Square Cut Diamond

I had just finished doing some recreational detecting of 27 fire pits at Corona Delmar Beach. I like to practice detecting around the fire pits because it’s a challenge to find a good targets amongst all the trash. That’s how I entertain myself. I call it practicing my hobby. Driving home with my detectors ready to go, I got a ringfinders call out from Emily.. She lost a gold ring yesterday afternoon while trying to catch a football. Her and her friends spent hours crawling around on the beach running their fingers thought the sand to no avail.

In the morning Emily and her friend got online and found a link that brought up The RingFinders. I always carry my cell phone and pulled to the side of the road to get the directions and ask a few questions. I did ask her what type material was it made of and was it small or large. She told me it was gold and it was “Chunky”.  I had to drive about 10 miles and walk down about 150 steps. By the time I got to the location I Emily had text message a google map and other information. The best help was they were near a group of 3 trash cans and about 20 ft. from the rocks . I started in a straight line swinging slow and low. Only 30 ft. into the search I got a signal that almost overloaded my detector. It was that beautiful unique ring and I now know what “Chunky” is. I sent her a text photo of her ring on my finger, saying Guess What.

What’s special about this is, we did this all with our smart phones and it wasn’t necessary for Emily to drive 40 miles to show me the location. It was less than an hour from the first call. We arranged to meet back in Newport Beach and she had her ring in about 2 hours from the time she called.  It was all smiles and a  big thank you. She promised me that she was never taking the ring to the beach. Also promised me to send me a message with the weight of her ring. It was definity unique and would have been a heart breaker to lose it.

I had just found a 56 year old ring for Marco about 20 minutes before and was only about a block from where I found Marco’s ring.  David came walking up to me and I figured he wanted to ask me ,”What’s the best thing you’ve ever found ?” I hear this 5 or 10 times a day when I get out before everybody leaves the beach.

David did look a little serious and he asked me if I could find a platinum ring he had lost the night before. I told him this is what I do and it should be easy if he was sure of the general area. This is what he told me. He was sitting on a stair step and fiddling with his ring(kind of rolling it with his other fingers) when it popped off right in front of him in the dry sand. He could not find it that night. The next morning he came directly to the place where the platinum ring slipped off his finger. This time he had equipt himself with a bucket, shovel and a sifting tool. David had excavated a 5 foot square area down about 8 or 10 inches and all the sand that had been sifted through the screen was piled up on  a rock. He was very organized and said he had spent more than two hours working his project.

I thought possibly the ring could have got buried too deep to find, because of the amount of sand that was moved. Trying to stay possitive, I searched the pile of sand and the excavated area. Then I did a couple passes of the coil just 3 or 4 ft. to the right of his digging. Right away there was a hit. A nice strong signal and up popped a beautiful platinum ring when I dug it with my scoop. I will not try to retrieve it with my fingers, because I know it is almost impossible. It just keeps slipping through your fingers..  David could not believe that it was that far away from where it dropped. He and his wife Kimberly were very happy to have their ring back and promised to recomend The RingFinders to all their friends and customers. They own a business in Laguna and have seen me on the beach before but didn’t know about our service.

I was visiting my daughter in Seal Beach.  I always do a little detecting before I go to her house so I had my detecting equipment with me. Just as I was leaving to drive back to Newport Beach I received a call from Greg. His fiance, Charlet had found The RingFinders when searching the internet.  He and Charlet were just two blocks away from me on the beach and  Charlet had just lost her engagement ring in the sand while applying sunscreen. I told him not to dig or disturb the sand because it may bury the ring out of range of the detector.  When I got there everybody around them was aware that the ring had been lost and I had a big audience. Charlet pointed out the location where it was dropped and I swung the coil of the detector about four times and there was the ring.  It took less than 20 minutes from the time they called till I found the ring. Charlet and Greg were so greatful and it was very important not to start off their marriage by losing their engagement ring. They will be getting married in two months. It was a pleasure to help them and such a coincident that I was so close when they need my help.. I hope I never get tired of doing this. This wouldn’t really be possible without all the new technology especially the miracle of the internet.

Gold & Diamond Ring recovered from the water in Baltimore County, Maryland!

I must tell you, the 100% success streak looked to be in jeopardy! This was the first time I initially came up empty during a recovery attempt, but due to the fact that Yuriy was so certain that the ring was lost in a certain area of a popular beach hang out, we decided to give it another try. I’m glad we did! Here is Yuriy’s take on the experience in his own words.

My girlfriend, some friends, and I went boating on Carlo’s (a friend of mine) boat to Hart Miller Island. We were throwing a football around in the water and my girlfriend realized that her ring had fallen off. Without seeing it hit the water it was difficult to pinpoint an exact location. We attempted a search but it was futile. The following day I decided to try to Google for “ring finding services” and came upon the theringfinders.com. Seeming too good to be true I emailed all the finders in Maryland and received prompt responses from all of them. Jim’s response was unique because he was ready to go that instant with his 100% success rate. One big issue is that I do not own a boat. I quickly contacted Carlos who was kind enough to make the drive with me to meet Jim and his friend Lance to search for the ring. While driving it all seemed too good to be true that there are people who do this and I was a little concerned about being mugged. When I met Jim and Lance that concern went away, they are two genuinely good guys. We boated out to the location where the ring was lost and they searched for about 3 hours. The location was filled with a lot of trash and the first search was unsuccessful. They were nice to offer a second attempt and we agreed on the following weekend. After the amount of trash I thought that the chances of the 2nd attempt were slim.

Only Jim was able to come out the 2nd time and my friend Carlos was once again kind enough to provide the transportation. Jim began his search and I began texting my girlfriend who at this point in time was on vacation with her family. All of a sudden Jim comes up to me and asks me, “is this it?”. It was surreal when he showed me my girlfriends ring! We celebrated and I texted my girlfriend we found it. She didn’t believe me at first so I sent her a picture. She was ecstatic. Even now it all seems too surreal.

Big thank you to Jim and Lance for searching for the ring.  These are two great guys and I would recommend everyone to not hesitate to contact them to help you find what you’ve lost. Also, great to be part of their continued 100% success streak!

Pietro was at a conservation area with his family & lost his ring when swimming. Once I arrived he pointed me to the “location” where he felt the ring slip off. The visibility was 1-2′ & I was able to find the ring in about 25 minutes.

Lost Ring found in lake near Haliburton

Diego & happy wifeOn my first official search for a wedding ring, I was able to find Diego’s wedding ring. He flipped a canoe near a friend’s cottage & lost 2 fishing poles & his wedding ring.  The location was in ~18; in a bay of a lake. It took me about 1 hour to locate the “drop” area as the initial search location was not accurate for me. Note that the more accurate the “lost” location is, the better luck I will have in locating “your” treasure. I found the ring within 15 minutes of locating the fishing poles.

Diego has been married since Feb 2013 so finding the ring was very important to him & his wife. 2 Happy Customers!!

Lost Ring… Bolsa Chica State Beach, CA… In Surf

I got a call this afternoon at 4pm from Joshua. He had been at Bolsa Chica State Beach last Friday 7-12-13.  Between 9 and 9:30 pm. Friday night he was in the surf about knee deep water when he felt his ring slip off into the water. I was able to get good directions from Josh and I calculated the approximate tide conditions at the time he lost the ring. The tide was about 3 ft high when he lost it. There had been 6 high tides of 4 to 4.5 ft during the 3 days sense losing the ring. I decided to try catching the falling tide this evening it will be 1.7ft at 10pm.  I started at 6 pm.

This beach has soft sand and slopes at a steep angle. It also has a lot of black sand that makes it a challenge for metal detecting. I wasn’t about to go into the wet surf as long as the tide was still going out and my past finds have been fairly close to where they were dropped. While waiting for the tide to fall I went away from the main search area. At 8:15pm..  Bam ! I got a signal and it was Josh’s ring , 7 inches deep..  The ring was 50 yards south of where it was dropped, but did not seem to wash down into the lower surf. Basically it just got pushed 50 yards south. I sent a photo of the ring to Josh and we set up a meeting to return his ring. He told me the ring was very sentimental because, he had bought in Jerusalem, Israel several years ago on vacation.

I was nice to meet Josh and I’m glad to be able to return his ring.. I had to stay possitive because 3 days in the surf is tuff. The waves and the sand change by the hour and 8 or 9 inches is more or less the limit of most metal detectors for ring sized objects.

Found Lost Wedding Ring in Lake Wilson in Weatherford,Tx

We got a call from the gentleman above late on a Friday afternoon.  Said he had fallen out of a boat on a small private lake in Weatherford,Tx and wondered if we would come try to find it.  I said we would be happy to but it would have to wait a week as were on our way to the airport to leave for vacation in Cancun for a few days.  I loved his response, he said “well it ain’t going nowhere”.  We agreed I would call him in a week when we returned.

As promised we called the following week and spoke with John about his ring, he explained that he and a friend were coming in from fishing on a small boat, he had stood up just at the moment his friend decided to pull the boat up a little higher on the bank.  When that happen, John lost his footing and fell into the lake.  He said he could feel his wedding band slipping off but could do nothing about it.  The waters edge was slippery and covered in algae and dropped off about 5-6ft in depth.

John found “The Ring Finders” website and located us.

Ellen & I drove 75 miles to the spot on the highway to meet John and have him and buddy lead us back on the dirt roads to where the lake was.  I set up my gear and went into the lake, it was amazing how deep it got so close to the shore.  John told me while I was in the water that he had used swimming pool cleaning poles to try and drag the ring up on shore and he also had a friend bring out his metal detector but no luck finding the ring.  I spent maybe 20 minutes in the water getting a feel for the area where John thought the ring would be.  I was getting lots of hits on my detector and using my water scoop was very difficult in the muddy bottoms.   As I went to change hands with my equipment my detector passed over a flat rock covered in algae  and my Garrett AT Pro went off loudly so I knew something was there.  I reached over with my hand and felt along the top of the rock and there was John’s wedding ring.  My wife and John had been talking along the bank and I said “hey John would you like to have your ring back?” and held up his gold wedding band .   He was flabbergasted, he said over and over “I thought I would never see it again”.  These reactions are what make this so much fun.

My wife was filming with her IPhone and began to ask John some questions.  He said this was the first time this ring had been off his finger in 57 YEARS.  He buddy then said, ‘tell them what you did’.  John replied with a sheepish grin, “I did not tell my wife”  he said I have a friend who owns a Pawn Shop who got him a temporary wedding ban to wear until we could hopefully find his ring.  We laugh and laughed.  Then John said…. “I wonder if the Pawn Shop with take the other ring back”.

It was a wonderful day.
