Lost wedding ring in the grass…St. Cloud, Florida…Found!

Waylon called me Thursday around noon to ask if I could help him find his wedding ring. Apparently while throwing some sticks and debris into the woods he felt his ring slide off of his finger and actually caught a glimpse of it as it sailed into the brush! After searching the area he soon realized he needed the help of a metal detector. He rented a cheap detector and searched the area but only found a few cans and bits of metal. And after 13 years of marriage and a wedding anniversary coming up in December, Waylon was anxious to find his ring.
When I asked for an address of where I could meet Waylon, he mentioned the area where he lost his ring was a new subdivision and he decided to drop me a pin of the exact location. Google maps is an amazing feature and an hour later I arrived at the site. It took me a few minutes to find the side walk and wooded area where Waylon had searched for his ring. I set out 2 flags and fired up my DFX. I usually search in Coin and Jewelry mode and have a fairly good idea of what my detector tells me when I go over different kinds of metals. My first pass was in the grass and my second pass was just into the edge of the woods. There were thick clumps of grass and brier bushes with sticks and weeds. I figured if I do not find it in the second pass then it could turn into a long tough search–as the bushes only got thicker and more of a tangled mess! But as I was ending my second pass I got a good signal. So using my trusty Garrett pro pointer, I scraped the dirt to see how deep the item was and as I brushed the dirt aside there was Waylon’s ring pressed into the ground.
As I picked up the ring and cleaned it off I realized that I had not gotten a good description from Waylon as to what exactly his ring looked like. So in a text I asked him to describe his ring. Sure enough it was his ring. I changed my boots and got some water to clean his ring and then sat down to wait for Waylon to arrive.
Fifteen minutes later Waylon drove up and I presented him with his ring!dscf2565-001dscf2563
What an honor and a pleasure it has been to help Waylon and his wife! And I encouraged him to get that ring resized and have an early Happy Anniversary!

Lost engagement/wedding ring on side of road…Orlando, Florida….Found!

I received a text from Monica saying she lost her very special ring along side of the busy 408 while throwing an apple core out of her car window! Monica and her fiance, Joe, are getting married in two weeks and the engagement/wedding ring was passed on to Joe by a special friend from their home town up in Kansas City, Missouri. Later that evening we met on the side of the freeway and discussed how to narrow down the area where she had lost her ring. Apparently it was raining quite hard that day and while doing 65 miles an hour–one can cover allot of distance rather quickly. I suggested we begin by trying to locate the apple core. And after 20 minutes of looking through the foot long grass we spotted the actual apple core Monica had thrown out of her car window. I spent the next 4 hours grid searching the long grass–having to actually push the long stuff over with my foot before I could pass the coil close enough to the ground to even get any signals. At 11:30pm I decided to call it quits and headed home.
The next day Monica texted me and thanked me for my efforts but I assured her I would try one more time. Two days later I decided to try again. I packed up some traffic cones, a reflective safety vest and my Whites DFX metal detector. (And I even decided to drop a test ring out my window to get a better idea of where Monica’s ring might have landed.) As I pulled off the freeway I noticed that they had cut the grass and I felt my chances of finding her ring went way up. After locating my dropped test ring–which landed fairly close to the old apple core–I set out my cones and started searching. Three hours later I got a nice signal and there under the grass was Monica’s beautiful ring! Joe and Monica were thrilled to have their ring back and to see the smiles on their faces made the 7 hours of searching very well worth it.
It was great to meet Joe and Monica and I wish them all the best in their new life together!

Silver Strand State Beach lost ring Found!

I got the call this morning a little before 8am as I was about to leave and meet up with a detecting buddy for some old property hunting. Kim had lost her wedding band/engagement ring combo in the dry sand so my morning plans would have to be delayed a bit. Instead, I hot footed it over the the Silver Strand State Beach to search for a supposedly sterling silver wedding set. After getting the boundaries of the search area established, I started my grid. It was next to a block wall with rebar inside, so, getting right up next to it might pose a problem. a couple of minutes later, I get a nice low tone 12-07 on my E-trac….. probably a wad of foil…..not what I was looking for, so, I almost passed it by, but, I figured, what the heck. It was a good strong signal and removing it would keep any masking problem from occurring. I stuck my pin pointer into the sand and located the target. Fished it out with my fingers and to my amazement, it was Kim’s ring! I said to them, this is not sterling silver, it’s reading gold. Kim said, “oh yeah, it’s white gold, not sterling”! Good thing I didn’t ignore it! That’s why we ask what type of metal we’re asked to find. With most high end modern detectors, we can discriminate between metals and ignore some of the ones we’re not looking for, so, knowing exactly what we’re looking for is very important. In a large search area, that can be a real time saver. Everything turned out good and a very happy Kim and her husband John can now get some much needed sleep! Oh, I didn’t mention that they were just married and were on their honeymoon when this happened! In fact, it happened last night and they spent the night sleeping in their rental car at the beach so they could keep an eye on the area! Now that’s people who wanted that ring back! A pleasure to meet you both! Have fun on the rest of your honeymoon, a safe trip home, and thank you for the reward.

Lost Wedding Rings in Maurice, LA. – Found

Sid got a call from Shane the day after his wife lost her engagement ring and wedding band (soldered together) in his Dad’s back yard. They were having a party and the couple were active at the party and around the subdivision. They had made many trips around and off the property on a golf cart.  I went early the next morning and started in the back yard off the porch, the party’s main location. On my second pass, I got a shallow, gold signal and found the ring ½” below ground level. Total search time, 15 minutes. Another smiling face. Dad got the picture since Shane needed to be at work. Thank you Randy and Shane for the generous reward. This helps keep these search services available.

 

P.S. Received an email from Shane’s Mom later in the day. She is a good friend from the past. Made the find even sweeter.

Lost ring at Coronado found

Laura was at the beach with friends and lost her wedding ring. She had taken off all her jewelry and had placed them in her bag. Through the course of the day she removed items from the bag and the ring must have accidentally come out with them. At one point, the blanket was dragged 30 feet downwind to get a good shaking to remove the accumulated sand. Once she realized that her ring wasn’t in the bag anymore, the search was on. Soft sand and fairly large possible search area = no success. One of her friends went online seeking help and TheRingFinders.com popped up. I got the call and gathered my gear for hopefully a quick search. I’d been out all morning detecting in the 100 degree heat, so, I was hoping for an easy one. After gathering all the info I could, I had them move a bit of their gear so I could start my grid. After a quarter and a few pieces of scrap metal, I got a low tone right at the edge of the supposed search area. After the sand drained out of my scoop, I see a nice diamond ring matching her description. Cheers go up as everyone realized that it had been found along with a couple of heartfelt hugs. A pleasure to meet you all and thank you for the reward. Now, time for A/C and a cold one!

Lost ring found at The Silver Strand State Beach

Emily left a message on my answer machine, my voice mail, e-mail, and texted my phone about her engagement ring lost in the sand at the Silver Strand. I figured she must want it back! 🙂 We made arrangements to meet at the scene in a couple of hours so they could show me the search area. When I arrived, I got the story on how it was lost. She had caught a football and the ring popped off her finger. She immediately dropped to her knees and started sifting through the sand, but, couldn’t find it. She was joined by the rest of her group, but, the same result….no ring. Now, several days later, my concern was that someone else might have found it. There is a campground at the other end of the beach and many campers like to detect too. The good part was that they were in a less used area in front of the parking lot normally closed off during the week. She remembered where she was when she caught the ball, so, I started there and spiraled out from that point. I was finding a few good coin targets, so, I figured that nobody had beat me to the spot and gridded the area. After almost and hour and many promising foil targets, I got another weak foil signal and a couple of scoops later, saw a beautiful white gold engagement ring in my scoop. Needless to say, Emily was overjoyed to get it back and amazed that I found it, and that it was so far from where she had caught the ball.  That’s the way the ring bounces sometimes! Ring found and returned at Marine St. in La Jolla

Kim was visiting San Diego from Hawaii with her husband, and was spending a day at the beach. She had removed her rings to clean the sand from their settings. Forgetting that she had removed them, she shook the sand out of her blanket and the rings along with it. She managed to find the wedding band, but, the engagement ring was eluding capture with only sifting fingers as a tool. She got on her phone and Googled for help. My profile came up for San Diego and she gave me a call. She hadn’t left the area, so, I figured this should be a fairly quick search. The hard part was battling the traffic and parking! I lucked into a spot fairly close to her location and gave her a text on the way to the sand. Since Kim and her husband were leaving for home the next day, this had to be found now! She met me on the beach and guided me to the search area. 30 seconds later, I got a beautiful 12-03 on my E-trac and pulled her gorgeous engagement ring from over 5 inches down. A pleasure to meet you Kim, thank you for the reward, and thank your husband for his service.

Lost Wedding Rings Found in Spokane Valley

The call: Sherrel had lost her two wedding rings while pulling weeds in her garden. It was 8:30 pm when she called me so I begged my Sweet wife to let me go to Sherrel’s house that night. I gave Sherrel a call back and told her my family and I were all coming over so I can find her rings as fast as she had lost them.

 

The Search: Arriving at the house at O’ dark thirty, I quickly geared up and put on my head lamp. I knocked on the door we said our hello’s then I was shown the garden where the loss took place. The garden was a ten by ten area including the grass which was  3/4 of the ten by ten area. So to eliminate the easiest space I gridded the grass. I got one signal at 4 inches and knew that her rings were not going to be that deep. The little garden was next on the list but it had a few unwanted metal guests. I and Sherrel’s husband removed the solar lights and the lawn ornaments. As I weaved through the foliage I heard a strong tone with a vdi of 23. Out came the Whites trx to help me search. I followed the beeps up into the middle of the bush. As I looked through the plant I saw not one but two golden rings nestled in the lilacs.

 

The Reaction: I am still a little new at finding people’s rings so I flipped out. I tried to snatch the rings from the bush so fast that I missed one of them. So I ran back to the bush and then back to Sherrel with the rings in hand screaming “guess what?” and “thank you Lord”. Of course all of this excitement from my end confused Sherrel and her husband so when I  said I had found the rings they didn’t believe me right way until they were safely back on Sherrels hand.

 

The Rings Story: These Rings needed to be back on Sherrels hand more than most I feel. See the rings had been on her hand for 40 years. Along with that provenance, they were made in Egypt. Sherrel’s husband was from Egypt and while she was working there they met. Sherrels husband had the finest Arminian jeweler in the land, hand make the plain band, and then had another stone placed in the solitaire ring that Sherrel had received from her work.

Ring lost at Ocean Beach Found.

Bradford and his wife were visiting from out of town and enjoying a day at the beach on the 4th until Bradford lost his wedding ring in the late afternoon in ankle deep water. It disappeared into the sand and no way it would be found with the naked eye.100_1456 100_1457 They returned the next morning hoping they could spot it, but, it was not to be. They saw several people with metal detectors searching the beach that morning, but, nobody had found it. Some even tried to help by searching the target area, but, the ring didn’t show itself. Disappointed, They went home.

I got the call for help on the 6th, and, even though I thought it likely someone had already found it, I heading down to the beach to give it my best, and ease their minds that it wasn’t still just laying there. After close to an hour of carefully gridding the area and not a single target (good or bad!), I figured my assessment was correct and the area had been hammered by other detectorists. Just then, my Excalibur gave me a nice big signal, and low and behold, it was Bradford’s ring! Surprise and satisfaction for me, and happiness for Bradford. He and his wife drove down today and were reunited with the ring. A pleasure meeting you both and thank you for the reward.
