Ring Lost at Fire Pits .. Huntington Beach, CA. .. Found

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Maria’s dad walked up to me as I was walking out on the beach to do some metal detecting. His daughter had lost her ring near the fire pits. Most fire pit areas have many pieces of metal trash but this was not a problem this day.
It was an easy search because they were still in the area and it happened within the last two hours. A couple swings with my Minelab CTX detector was all it took to get this great smile from Maria. Her dad was also a hero for finding me and asking for help.

Diamond Engagement Ring Lost in Barnyard .. Costa Mesa, CA. .. Found in Muddy Grass

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Casey called me asking if I could help her friend find a ring that was possibly lost in a stable area on a small ranch property. I told her could be there in 30 minutes.
She sent me a address where I could meet her friend Michelle. This property is a small ranch in Costa Mesa, CA., that has stables set up for 4-H projects. Michelle and other parents were helping clean up stalls and pens for goats and chicken projects.
She had taken her 14 year old engagement ring off putting it in he back pant pocket so she could put on gloves. A couple times during the day she also put her gloves in the same pocket. Her thought was that the ring came out when she removed the gloves from her pocket. Where and when was the question? Michelle even told me she was worried that one of the goats could have eaten the ring. I told her to stop this thought, we had to first eliminate all the dirt and grassy areas the ring could be hiding.
I did a warm up lap on a dirt area before proceeding to the most likely location which were the stalls. As I walked the wet grass towards the stalls, I got a nice low tone that was worth bending over to check. Put my pinpointer into the grass and spotted the back edge of the beautiful diamond white gold/platinum ring.
It was one of those easy searches but it could have taken much longer. She had been all over the property that morning.
If it were not for Michelle’s friend Casey, helping to set this up this could have gone another direction. It could have been a very miserable night at the least, if we didn’t on top of this right away. Michelle and Her husband Mark expressed how grateful they were and thanked me for helping them.

Platinum Diamond Wedding Ring Lost .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found Five Months Later in Wet Sand.

Newport Beach 19th Street Ring .. Lost August 2016,
found Dec. 31, 2016

I bought myself a new XP Deus metal detector that can be used to find small metallic items. Even though I have been using metal detectors for years, it does take practice to learn to set up and feel confident with a new machine.
It was the last day of 2016 at Newport Beach, when I was testing my settings in wet sand. The light rain was making it difficult to stay focused. Just before stopping for the day I got a nice signal. It turned out to be a platinum wedding ring with 14 diamonds in the bottom of my scoop. Not bad for the first good ring with my XP Deus detector.
The next day, I remembered a ring search I did last summer. I went to my list of past searches locating Robbie and Francisca’s Celphone number. I texted them that I found a ring that could be theirs. He sent me a photo of the lost ring that matched the ring I had found.
Another Miracle find, five months after Francisca lost the ring. Last August she had been on the beach with her grandson playing in the sand in and out of the water. She wasn’t sure if the ring had fallen off in the house, on the beach or the two block walk to the beach. After 6 hours of a thorough grid search I could not find the ring.
We will never know where the ring was hiding, it could have been on edge or too deep to detect. What is amazing, is this ring escaped many other metal detectors because it was just 100 yards south of the Newport Pier, heavily hunted by many detectorists. I did check the ring using my CTX 3030 and it had no problem getting a good solid signal flat and on edge.
The most important thing is the ring is back where it belongs. Another successful return even though it took some time.

Lost Hierloom Ring in the Snow .. Crestline, CA. .. Found four days later

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Thais contacted me asking if I would be able to help her find an heirloom diamond ring that was passed down from her husbands late mother.
Discussing what happened on the phone she said, that the ring was on a necklace. They had made a trip to Crestline,CA. to see the first snow fall of the year with friends that have never seen snow.
Thais was certain that the necklace had broken at one of four stops they had made to install tire chains. It is now four days after the loss and is about 80 mile drive. The snow has already melted possibly the ring could have been pushed to the side of the road with snow plows? It’s a long shot but worth a try.
They sent me PDF maps of the 4 locations.  So I started my drive, just as I was leaving, Thais and Jesse texted me that they decided to drive up to meet me, which would definitely increase their odds of finding the ring.
They arrived 10 minutes before I got there.. Thais walked over to a place that she had been playing that day she lost the ring. Guess what? On the edge asphalt parking lot right in plain sight was the priceless heirloom ring. Thais found it just as I pulled into the parking lot. She said they had given up but after talking to me they had hope to try, which worked this time.
My take on this.. “Don’t give up, just before the miracle happens”

Lost Celphone in Sand .. Balboa Penensula, CA. .. Found

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Mark and his family are vacationing here in Newport Beach from Northern California. They rented a four person bicycle surrey that they peddled down the boardwalk to an isolated area of the beach.
His son was showing how he could jump off the 5 foot embankment and after a few minutes realized he had lost his iPhone. The family went to the local merchant buying a couple plastic shovels. After two hours the Celphone was not to be found.
They returned to their hotel where Mark searched the internet finding my contact information on TheRingFinders.com. When he called me, I was excited because this sounded like an easy search. I checked the tides which were still low enough to attempt a search before salt water might damage the Celphone.
I was at the location within 30 minutes. It was about 8:15 when I spotted the plastic shovel that Mark had left in the sand. I got two large signals that could have been the phone. The third signal was the Celphone more than 14 inches in the sand. It’s not wise to use a sand scoop to retrieve phones, digging with my hands it still was hard to find after having heard a good metallic signal from my detector.
Mark and his family were staying 3 miles from where I live. It was no big deal to take the phone to them. Mark had the phone in his hands less that two hours after he contacted me.

Wedding Ring Lost doing Yard Work .. Van Nuys, CA. .. Found

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

I received an email from Rebecca..

Hi Stan
My name is Rebecca and you were recommended by Jeffrey of ring finders.
I’m in Van Nuys and my husband has lost his wedding ring. He had been doing lawn work and was also on the roof putting up Xmas lights and it’s obviously come off and we’re seriously frustrated because it’s no where to be found so we need some help!
Thank you for your time.
– Rebecca
…………….

I was able to get to their house a couple hours after talking to Rebecca and Chris called me from work explaining his activities on that Saturday.
After arriving I searched the front yard, backyard, tomato garden and three containers of leaves with no success. Chris was leaving work early to double check the roof while it was still light outside. Before leaving I offered suggestions as where they may search for the ring. Searching for a ring is a process of elimination. I felt confident when I left that the ring was not in the areas that I searched. As I was leaving, I asked Rebecca if she would let me know if they found the ring.

Sorry I don’t have any photos to show. I’m posting this because it feels good to get a text from Rebecca and Chris, thanking me for helping them.
…….
She text me a half hour later::
Chris found it! It was on the roof, hidden under a pile of dirt and leaves! Thank you so much for helping us today.

White Gold Wedding Band .. Marina Del Rey, CA. .. Found in Water

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

My friend Adriano was doing a ring search at Marina Del Rey Mother’s Beach. The ring had been in a pocket inside a 6 man outrigger canoe. The person that lost the ring was 99 % sure the ring had fallen into the water when they tipped the canoe over to carry it to the storage area.
Adriano asked my opinion on hunting in an area with a lot of electrical interference.. I asked if I could help because it was sounded like a real learning challenge .. I took my CTX and he uses Excal.. There was a pvc electrical conduit running through the primary search area. It was surprising that 15 feet each side of the conduit the interference made it almost impossible to get a signal. By turning my sensitivity down I was able to calm my machine down enough to get much closer to the conduit. It would still be possible to detect a shallow ring. After a couple hours with two of us grid searching (no ring).
Then a guy who had been out with his kayak asked what we were looking for..? We told him and he replied, “I HAVE IT”. It sounded like he was joking or I didn’t hear him correctly.
He told us that in the morning as he got into his kayak, he found it in the water an hour before we got there. He had been thinking of some way to find the owner and was glad to give it to Adriano if he could return it to the owner. We made sure the man that lost the ring had contact information for the man that found the ring.

Moral to this story is you never know how things come together to make a successful search.

Heirloom 22k Wedding Ring Lost .. Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found in Sand

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Juney called, he asked if I was available to help him find a ring that he thought was lost in the sand at Laguna Beach. The ring had slipped off his finger earlier on the lawn while he was brushing sand off his daughter. An hour later, four blocks down the beach, he was playing with both his son and daughter on the sand when he realized his ring was missing again.
It was dark when we met on the beach 20 minutes after he had called me. I gave him a flashlight and put on my headlamp. We walked to the site discussing where he might have been doing things that may have caused the ring to come off his finger.
Juney showed me an area 35 ft. x 100ft. I took half of that to start a grid down the center, planning to spiral outward. One pass down the center then back in the other direction. After a few feet I got a strong signal, possibly mixed with iron. I pitched a scoop full of sand on the surface and the gold ring was there on top illuminated with our flashlights.
Even though Juney didn’t know exactly where or when he lost the ring, he was able to remember the approximate location and where he had been most active playing with his kids. Tomorrow morning the beach sifting machine will clean the beach.

Model Loses Ring During Photo Shoot .. Point Magu, CA. .. Sycamore State Beach

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Wednesday . 11:30am

Cynthia called me, asking me if I was available to help find a ring lost in the sand at Sycamore State Beach, Point Magu, Calif. Her company was assisting a well known Italian photographer and model doing a photo shoot for Vogue Italia Magazine. It was not your average photo shoot. It was more like a movie production. This ring was actually part of props rented from a company that leases items for movies. There were about a dozen members of the crew and cameras and lighting set up everywhere. They were busy working, so one of the assistants showed me where they thought the model, Bianca had believed the ring slip off her finger in a 40 x 40ft area.

When I started my grid search, it was loaded with trash metal, nails, bottle caps, etc. normal for beach areas near fire pits. It was so trashy that I thought I might have to return with sifting equipment to find the ring.
Before giving up I put on my 6″ coil, reduced sensitivity, and eliminated discrimination (basically  all metal) so I could listen for a gold tone. After finding a couple nickels amongst two handfuls of bottle caps, I felt there was a chance to listen for low tones. Within a few minutes after making these adjustments to my Minelab CTX 3030 metal detector, there was slight low sound mixed with other trashy signals. Boom! A beautiful unique gold ring in my sand scoop.
Cynthia, Bianca and the others on the crew came over to thank me. Again, I heard the words that I hear so often ” We never knew a service like this existed” .. It was only possible because Cynthia was able to use the internet to find TheRingFinders.com. Someday we will be a household word.

Lost Engagement Ring .. Santa Monica, CA. .. Found in Sand

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

TEXT .. 10:52 pm.
Hi. My name is Mallorie and I lost my engagement ring on Santa Monica beach tonight. I came across your name on ring finders and was wondering if you could help and what your cost is. Sorry to text so late. Please get back to me as soon as possible.
Thank you.
**********************
I received the above text just as I was returning home from a thanksgiving dinner. I replied asking Mallorie to call me right away. Her and her husband Nathan were there to meet me at 12:30 am on the beach near Santa Monica Pier.
They believed the diamond ring to be near the gymnastics rings where Nathan and Mallorie had done a little work out. She had put three rings in Nathan’s shirt pocket while she did some stunts on the rings. When she finished He gave her two of the rings. A little later she asked for the other ring. The ring wasn’t in his pocket. They had been in a large area, but assumed it dropped in the sand when he pulled out the first rings.
I grid searched the whole area without a sign of the ring. Then I asked, where else they had been. They did try one other set of gym rings where Nathan had taken his shirt off, laying it on the sand. This was our last hope for the night. I was already making plans to return in the morning to scan the larger beach area. We knew that we were running out of possible places the ring could be hiding. Then came the magic gold tone and 12-24 VDI reading. The beautiful Rose Gold Diamond ring was in my sand scoop.
A nice Thanksgiving present for Mallorie and Nathan.
