The first thing I do in the morning is check my emails. There was an email sent to me at 11:50pm last night from Hailey saying,  I was her last hope. Yesterday she was at Huntington State Beach between towers 3 and 4 when she lost her diamond engagement ring. I sent her a reply asking her to call me as soon as possible. There was enough information to drive to the location to begin a search.

About a half hour of grid searching a large area, I received a call from Hailey, she told me that she had given the ring to her husband to hold. He put the ring on his pinky finger. Before they left the beach he realized the ring was missing. Several of their friends spent hours search by hand with no success. Then they had to leave because the beach closes at 10 pm, so they left believing the ring was lost forever.

After hearing that story, I was now sure that her ring was in the sand near the towel line. I asked her if she remembered seeing a sand castle on the beach. She told me that they had build a sand castle and was surprised it was still there. That was the clue I needed. It took me a short time to find Hailey’s ring after the phone call. Calling her with the good news and sent her a photo of the ring. She told me how much this ring meant to her and that they still owed $3000 on it.

Hailey was 20 miles away in Anahiem which made it time consuming for her to drive to the beach. Also parking is $25 for this 4th of July weekend which I don’t have to pay because I have an annual State Beach parking pass.

It was a a pleasure to meet and return the beautiful ring to Hailey and her husband later that afternoon.

Lifeguard Needs Help Finding Lost Ring in Sand.. Monarch Bay, Laguna Beach, CA.

Last week I did a 6 hour unsuccessful ring search at 1000 Steps Beach in the town of Laguna Beach,CA. I met Max who is an Orange County Lifeguard. He was curious about why I was grid searching the whole beach. I had been called about a ring the was dropped in the sand two days before and the people were not able to meet me. They did send me a marked up satellite screen shot. I told him I was a member of TheRingFinders and gave him my contact information.

Today Max called me needing my help for his custom silver ring lost in the sand right in front of his lifeguard tower. He couldn’t spend hours searching for it because he has to be ready to save lives. Today he was working Monarch Bay Club beach.
It was a 20 minute drive for me. Parking was a snap because security heard I was going to help one of the lifeguards. Max showed me the location and we got to work. Second signal put Max’s ring in my scoop. Couldn’t talk much because the beach was busy.
A happy lifeguard with his ring that was purchased as a memory of a trip to Mexico several years ago. Another fun search.

Diamond Wedding Ring Lost .. Emerald Bay, Laguna Beach, CA. .. Recovered from Sand

Kevin called me last night to inquire about my metal detecting service after finding me on TheRingFinders website.
His daughter was at the Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach, CA. searching for her wedding ring as we spoke. He said he would call in the morning if she didn’t find it. I was ready to leave right now because I knew she was waisting her time.
I did get the call the next morning setting up a place to meet. The location was five miles from my home, nice for me. Kevin told me that his daughter thought she removed the ring from her finger to apply sunscreen to her husband. ( #1 cause of rings lost on beaches .. IMO )
It was an easy search because Kevin was able to get me to the exact location and there was a ring to be found. Kevin stayed about 30 yards away to give me space to do my thing. He said he saw me hesitate for a second before scooping up the ring. He was so excited to take a picture of the ring sending it to his daughter right away.
I didn’t know till after the find that they were not sure that this was where she lost the ring. They only believed it was possibly there after checking photos taken during the day.

Two Silver Rings Lost in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

Late in the afternoon Zach called, his girlfriend had lost two silver rings in the sand. She did the sunscreen trick. Take the rings off to put them on the towel while applying sunscreen. Then forgetting to put them on. I believe that there is something in sunscreen that makes people forget to pick up their rings. This is probably the number one ring loss story on our beaches.

I asked where he was and if he could meet me there at lifeguard tower 32 in Newport Beach. No use talking on the phone when I could be there in 15 minutes. We met where he had the area well marked. A few swings with my XP Deus and both rings showed up in my sand scoop. Zach said he waisted a couple hours trying to be the hero that found the rings. He was the guy that found TheRingFinders website and called me. Took a few photos then headed home to surprise Paige by returning her rings.

These short searches are nice, especially after having two other searches this week that were more than five hours each without success. We can’t find them if they aren’t there. It kind of averages out. I like to call it like winning the lottery. Our odds of finding a lost ring are better than the lottery but you have to try. Plus sometimes you can help by eliminating an area so the person can search other locations.

Engagement Ring Dropped in Sand while Proposing .. Hermosa Beach, CA. .. Found and Returned

I got a late call from Damir asking me for help. He had just proposed to his fiancé, Ellie on the sand in Hermosa Beach. In the excitement of the moment Ellie dropped the diamond engagement ring in the sand.
Dry sand is unforgiving and will hide a ring from searching fingers forever. I did not waste time discussing anymore on the phone. Just asked them to text me the address and I’d be there within 45 minutes. I also told them not to worry. If they can get me on the general spot, we could find the ring.

When I arrived at 14th Street in Hermosa Beach I could see a police car on the beach with Damir and Ellie standing there in the cold breezy night air. I introduced my self, looked at the 20 x 20′ area. I decided to start the grid diagonally, just because? Straight line to the opposite corner, BAM! Diamond Engagement ring in the scoop. Everybody was amazed, the police officer had a look that I’ll never forget. Similar to the look people give when somebody does a magic trick. It was cold so we all took a few quick photos and headed home. It was almost midnight and everyone concerned will sleep good this night.

Lost Gold & Ruby Ring in West Vancouver…Found!

I was at work when the 911 call came in for a lost ring, I talked to the young lady and she was crying on the other end and I felt bad for her but felt I could find the ring so I told her to relax, I told her I would be there as soon as I was done work.

When I got there it wasn’t looking good as from what she described as being sandy turned out to be mostly concrete side walk with less then 5% sand in one little section by the log.

She took her ring off and placed it on her bag and forgot and picked up he bag to go home…Well she remembered that she did that 15 minutes after she had left the park/beach.

I started my search where she showed me where she put her bag down on the log, I searched both sides of the log and the side closest to the sidewalk and nothing. I could see where she had been searching for the ring as the sand was disturbed in that area, I started to work further down the log for the ”what if factor” well almost at the end of the log and tucked close to the log was her ring!

 

 

It was like magic! When you are about to give up the search and then at the very end of your search the ring shows its self…Magic! I was so happy for the young lady to be able to help continue the story that ring came with.

Lost Wedding Ring .. Dana Point, CA. .. Found

Janene called me asking me if I could help her find her diamond wedding ring. She had a stressful day and the last time she saw her ring was when she parked her car down the street from her home. She didn’t realize the ring was missing until the next day. Somewhere between where she parked her car or possibly in the house she believed her ring was lost. I agreed to come to her place explaining that I could help her eliminate the outside areas but my large detector probably would be of no use inside the house. Nevertheless we could check the trash and other places that could conceal a ring with my pinpointer (handheld detector)
After doing the front lawns and landscaped areas outside we went through two big bags of trash with no results, we went into the house starting in the bedroom. I began by checking a shag rug. I had asked Janene what she might have been doing the evening of her loss. She folded and put laundry in her drawers. This is the kind of action that may lead to the loss of her ring. Or there have been other times when I’ve heard that a ring lying on a counter got knocked into a open drawer.
Sure enough the beautiful white gold diamond wedding ring was in the drawer with the clean clothes. A very happy lady that gave me credit for staying positive and pushing her to check the drawers.

Wedding Ring Lost Playing Volleyball .. Santa Monica, CA. .. Recovered

It was about 6:30pm when a lady named Esmot called me from Santa Monica asking my help to find her husband’s wedding band. He had lost it in the sand while playing volleyball.
I met them an hour later where the loss occurred. Esmot and her husband Salmon showed me the area where he had felt the ring come off his finger. I backed off about 10 feet to get a few practice swings in before getting serious. Immediately there was a signal. I went to grab my sand scoop to checkout the signal. The sand scoop was still in my car just a short distance from the search location. I almost tried to retrieve the target by hand but I didn’t want to look stupid, a ring can just keep slipping through your fingers in the sand.
Handing my detector for Esmot to hold while I retrieved my sand scoop from my car. On my walk back to the volleyball court, they came walking towards me with big smiles. They had found it using my metal detector. Esmot got curious while holding the detector, so she swung it over the spot where I had a signal. She put her hand in the sand finding the ring right away. Very lucky for her, ask anybody that has spent hours searching sand with their fingers.
They were very happy as newlyweds that have only had the matching rings for 4 months. We took a few minutes to take a few photos then the took of to meet their friends for dinner.
