Well it’s been a while since I’ve had a successful recovery, not that I haven’t tried and this one wasn’t an easy one to say the least. I got a call from a young lady who lost her wedding band and was asking to see if I could help her, we set a time and a place to meet at Spanish banks in Vancouver BC. The young lady show me the area where she believe the ring was lost and at the same time told me there was two other places it could’ve been dropped. She told me she put it in her pants pocket and while visiting a friend she took her pants off as she had shorts underneath. So this was definitely a place where her ring could’ve fallen out of her pocket.

She also told me there was a possibility it could’ve fallen out when she got out of the car, you have to take all this info into consideration but the most important thing to do was give her closure for the beach area. I spent close to 2 1/2 hours searching with no luck. I do ask many questions to make sure I’m not missing what I’m looking for, I also expand the search area. Part of me felt like she was going to find it at her friends place, when I got the text message that her and her friend could not find it I knew I had to go back to the beach and go into areas where she did not believe it could be, as we all know Murphy’s Law plays a big part in recovering peoples lost items.

I arrived the next day and was determined to search where she did not believe the ring could be the only problem was there was a lot of black sand which was really causing havoc on my machine due to the mineralization. However after 15 minutes I was able to locate her beautiful wedding band. It pays to go back sometimes just to double check and make sure you did everything you could, I’m good at thinking out of the box but even I can miss things as far as Information goes, it’s good to go where you least expect it sometimes.

Got a phone call from a young man who said he had lost his white gold wedding band while visiting a little town just outside of Penticton called Granite Creek. He went on to tell me he was throwing a snowball and felts his ring come off his finger. I asked him a few questions, we discussed the search and I agreed to drive four hours up into the interior to help him find his lost ring.

I got up at 3 AM made myself 2 coffees and hit the road at 4:15 AM. I took my time as we were going to meet at 10 AM, I stopped at Manning Park and took a few photos and drone shots. This was my favourite place growing up where my father and mother took me and my brother to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

I met Devin at 10 AM and I followed him on a 30 minute drive to Granite Creek where he lost his ring, when we both parked I saw him get out and walk to the area quickly to do a once over. There was not much snow left and I asked him if it had melted and he said yes, a lot. Before I took my metal detectors out of the car we walked around and eyeballed the area just in case we could see it. I went back to my car grab my detectors and proceeded to search for his ring.

Much like everyone I have helped in the past I could sense his concern and despair, I knew he really wanted this ring back and I too was hoping I could find it for him. After around 10 minutes bingo… I found his ring under the tree covered u but just enough gold to catch my eye.

I have to tell you I get just as excited as the people I find the rings for, It was a 4 hour drive for both of us, I knew he was very hopeful as was,  because it would’ve been a very long 4 hour drive. back home if we didn’t find it.

Man’s Cobalt Wedding Band Lost on Ocean Isle Beach NC – Found and Returned

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

About 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 27th, I received a text message saying, “Hi Jim, My name is Lyndsey and I heard you are an excellent ring finder. Any chance you are available near OIB (Ocean Isle Beach)”.  I called the number and talked with Lyndsey to get the details. She said her friend, Sean, had lost his wedding band while playing catch with her son in the dry sand. She said Sean had told her he had the ring on until he removed the ball glove and within minutes realized his ring was gone. The last thing she mentioned was that their group spent about 45 minutes looking for the ring with no luck. I told her I’d be there in 35-40 minutes, grabbed my gear and headed out. She texted me her address as I was driving out of my neighborhood.

I arrived about 6 p.m. and met Lyndsey in her driveway. She told me that Sean didn’t know that she had found somebody to try and find his ring and hoped we could surprise him. She walked me out to the beach and showed me the area they had been in. I asked what type of ring and she said she was pretty sure it was white gold. I knew the VDI (Visual Display Indicator) number range I was looking for so I started a grid search parallel to the tide line. Plus, since the ring had only been lost within the last couple of hours, it should be within a couple of inches. I completed the area passing up numerous deeper targets outside the range I was looking for. I confirmed the white gold and the time period and the only thing Lyndsey wasn’t sure of was the metal. She texted someone and found out the ring was made from Cobalt. I had no idea what Cobalt was, so I called a friend to see if he had any ideas on where that would show up on the VDI. He had no idea either, so I did another grid search perpendicular to the tide line over the same area expanding east, west and north. This time it took a little longer because I was checking some of the targets I hadn’t check before. While I’m searching, Lyndsey was checking her pictures on her phone and found one that saved the day! She moved me to search further east, which I did. About 3 more grid lines I hit a shallow, solid 9 on the VDI. On my second scoop, I saw the silver looking ring sticking out of the sand. Boom! After almost an hour and twenty minutes, I had Sean’s ring in my hand.

On the way back to the house, Lyndsey and I devised the surprise return, needless to say, Sean was Surprised! Lyndsey was taking the reveal video and didn’t want Sean to see her so the beginning of that part of the video is filming the floor.

Lyndsey – Thank you so much for trusting me to help find Sean’s ring and for taking the videos!!

Sean – happy belated 2nd Anniversary to you and your lovely bride, Kate. Wish you two all the Best.

Jim

Most of my calls are for finding lost jewellery but you get some calls that are not.  My mission, if I chose to accept it, was in regards to finding a person’s grandfather’s ashes that was buried in the backyard in a mason jar, a year ago…  (His name was George)

It was a 2 Hour dive for me to get to her location, when I got there we discussed the search area, I also found out that she was being evicted from her home, so it was crucial that I find the ashes.

She wasn’t comfortable being on camera so I decided to just record the basic… Some of the search area and hopefully the recovery of the ashes. After 15 minutes the lady had to go to the washroom so she left me searching, only a minute after she went into the house I got a good signal and found her grandfather’s ashes, I left it where I found it for her to dig up. When she came out of the house I said ”I found George” I saw a look of disbelief, pure joy, and excitement all at once.

She asked me where?  I took her to the spot and showed her where i found it, she reached into the hole and grabbed it and as soon as it came out of the earth I could tell this was not George’s ashes! She quickly said I’m sorry I lied it’s $$Cash$$ So my search went from Ash to Cash! I found $12,500 in a mason jar that was in the ground and lost for over 1 year. She told me it was driving her crazy, she dug holes everywhere but could not find it, she apologized for lying but she was afraid of what her friend told her and not to trust anybody. I completely understand why she said what she said, the end result is I was so happy to be able to reconnect her with her money that she had saved for years.

She went on to explain that she was very nervous when Covid 19 hit, she heard rumours of banks closing their doors, she raced to the bank and took out her savings and buried it.

I just wonder how many people have done this in the past, forgotten where they buried their treasure and then sadly move or even pass away, leaving behind their life savings in the ground for some lucky person to find one day.

After talking for an hour or so this young lady was going back to the bank that day and let me know its now safe back in her Bank!

December 2021 Kathy contacted me on New Years Eve explaining that she and her friend, Nancy, had been out in their neighborhood park and lost a very important ring. The two girls had been showing off a hand full of rings to the camera with a beautiful snow white back drop when they noticed one very important ring was now missing. It just happened to be Kathy’s mother’s gold wedding ring!

They had lost the ring earlier in the day. The good news I had was that I live just up the hill from them and I could swing by on my way home that evening to perform the search. When I arrived the temperatures had dropped quite a bit making for quite the challenge. The standard GoPro batteries don’t like sub freezing temperatures and the fingers as get a little slow as well but I endured the temporary bit of discomfort and got the search accomplished.

How to find a lost ring in snow…

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Vancouver Ring Finder Chris Turner- Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost your ring?… Metal Detecting Service/Call ASAP  Anytime   778-838-3463

I got a distress call early evening Saturday in regards to a lost diamond engagement ring in Chilliwack. After talking for 20 minutes we arrange a time and place to meet the next day, originally I was looking to meet around noon but the young man asked if I could do it sooner as his wife was struggling with the fact that she lost her engagement ring.

They even told me they bought a metal detector and search for it also 10 or more people walking by the time stop to help search in the snow unfortunately finding a platinum diamond ring in the snow is virtually impossible. The fact that they bought a metal detector doesn’t always mean they’re going to fine with Dave Lost. If you have never used a metal detector it would be hard to understand how it works and how to properly search for it. I have 50 years of a Metal Detecting Experience and lots of lessons I have learned over the years on wear rings turn up, it’s not always where you think they’re going to be.

After meeting the young couple they showed me where they believe the ring could be, they cleverly marked two trees so they could get back to the area… Very smart thing to do because sometimes people don’t always get you back to the exact area. After searching for close to 30 minutes and no Ring the young lady went to the second location she thought it may have come off her finger and that was by the lake, her husband stayed behind to watch me and shortly after I found her beautiful diamond ring and surprised her husband. We agreed to go to the lake and surprise his wife!

December 2021 Miss Cee Cee contacted me asking for assistance in finding her promise ring lost in her  snowy back yard. She explained that she had stepped outside to take a few photos of the beautiful snow with her newly received ring. Without gloves her hand quickly got cold. Next thing she remembers she was shaking snow from her hands when she felt her new promise ring sliding off her finger into the snow. She tried to melt some of the snow with hot water but even after this she was still was unable to find her ring.

When I arrived it was still very cold with snow covering the yard. I got straight to work with my detector and after a bit of searching located her promise ring. It was another ring saved from a snow covered yard. Miss Cee Cee was very happy to have her ring back on her finger. She told us she learned not to play in the snow with any rings on.
