I received a call from Phoebe who had been at the beach a couple of days earlier, and saw a couple searching the sand for something. As a concerned citizen, she wanted to help, and joined with some others in searching for a lost wedding ring. Unfortunately they were unable to find it, so undeterred Phoebe started talking to friends, and neighbors as to how to help the couple find the ring when The Ring Finders was recommended. Phoebe found me on the site and asked if I could help, as the couple was leaving to go home to Nevada that day. I let her know that it would be best to wait until later in the evening so that the crowds would be gone, and allow me free access to area of the loss, which she understood.

When I got there it was dark, and most people had gone home. The area that Phoebe had marked for me was free, so I got over, and began my search. I searched one way out 30 feet with no signal. I then began my search in the other direction, when after 3 passes, I got a strong signal, dug, and in my scoop was a real nice heavy ring. I took a picture and sent it in a text to her, in which she was surprised as I was, that it was still there. She then gave me an address of a friend close by so that I could drop it off, and she was going to mail it back to the couple the next day. I received a thank you from Jose’ when he got his ring back in Nevada.  A great day!

It was just last October when I received a call from Ashley who’s daughter had lost her gold Tiffany & Co. necklace charm in the sand of Torrance Beach. We had a successful search, but I was surprised to get another call for the same charm lost at a different beach. Well, I did not hesitate, but left immediately to recover the lost charm.

When I got there Ashley found me and lead me to their spot to search. She showed me where she thought it might be, and the sifter that someone had loaned them to use for their search, but they were unable to find it. I remembered that the charm was too small for my scoop, and would just fall through the holes back into the sand, so I brought a plastic spoon with very small holes to sift out the charm when it was found. I went over the area she showed me, got a good signal, scooped with my spoon, and after a couple minutes of shaking, there in the bottom was the charm. Ashley was surprised, because they had gone over that area already with the sifter they had with no luck. Remember, If you lose something a second time, don’t feel embarrassed about it, but like Ashley, call me back, and we will find it again!

Wedding gold band recovered at end of dock

Received a call from Clint this morning about how he lost his gold wedding band in Verona area (North of Kingston). He explained that while climbing down a metal ladder at the end of his dock, his wedding band got caught on a steel bolt, nearly taking the skin off his finger. This is when the ring got ripped off his finger and fell into the lake.

Having Google mapped the location, I grabbed my trusted Excalibur II water metal detector, and all of my Scuba gear and headed his way. within a couple hours I met with Clint, discussed and assessed the situation and dove to find his ring. Being in only about 8’ of water, the bottom was your typical mix of silt and sand, with zero visibility once you start stirring the bottom up. However, after having a few false hits due to metal chains holding the dock in place, I heard that unmistakable sweet gold tone and was able to narrow my search using my Garrett pin pointer. From there, you just go by feel, until you feel the gold band between your fingers.

Needless to say, Clint was extremely happy and surprised that I was able to find it for him. Glad I was able to reunite him with his wedding band. Another happy camper.

Gold pendant lost for 11 months, found in Richmond Virginia!

June 18th, 2021: Recovered a gold pendant missing for 11 months in Richmond, VA.

Ashley lost a delicate 10k pendant almost a year ago while having a family celebration in her yard. She had given up on finding it, until she came upon my contact information on TheRingFinders.com. The pendant has a great sentimental value for Ashley as it was a gift from her mother, and could not be replaced.

After arranging a date and time, my son Matthew and I arrived at Ashley’s and she provided us a detailed account of the activities from the party.

There were two areas where Ashley’s chain may have broken. One area was around a portable pool. The other possible search area was where she and her guests had played human bumper ball. Both areas are on the side of the house. Matthew and I set up search grids and combed the area. We found several targets which sounded like 10k gold, but no luck.

After a couple of hours, we expanded the search area toward the back of the house. A few minutes later, I heard Matthew say those wonderful words, “Dad, we found it”!

Uncovered!

As you might imagine, Ashley was elated and we all celebrated a joyful outcome to the search.

Surprise!

Reunited

*** Donnie called me while he was driving to a local sporting goods store to buy a metal detector. His son Cameron had lost his cell phone at Newport Beach the night before. The phone was important because it had a special photo of Cameron’s mother who had past away recently. The photo was inserted into a custom phone case and there were no duplicates.

I was just finishing a search less than a mile away from the location he told me the phone was lost. It was an Iphone that was still transmitting its location on the lost my phone app. I told him,  I could find the phone and could meet him within twenty minutes.

I finished up what I was doing and we both drove up to the site at the same time. We walked out on the beach and the phone showed up soon after I turned on my detector swinging for about twenty feet. They had spent almost two hours trying to find the Iphone by hand searching before calling for help. I saved Donnie the cost of buying a detector and probably a lot of frustration. The phone was actually in wet saltwater sand that most inexpensive hobby detectors can not handle. It was a pleasure to be available to help them.. They were so thankful, and I could tell this photo meant the world to the both of them.

Tiffany & Co. Gold La Pousette Stud Earring Back Lost in Backyard.. Tarzana, CA. .. Recovered

*** Laura lost her Tiffany & Co. 18k Gold  La Pousette earring back in the grass. The loss occurred when she decided to remove her diamond stud earrings so her new playful Labrador puppy wouldn’t accidentally pull the earring loose. She knew exactly where the loss happened but she could not visually see the small backing.

I got a call from her because she believed her only chance to find it would be a metal detector. I had a short discussion with her, explaining the complications of finding small gold items with hobby metal detectors. We agreed that I could meet her at her home that afternoon with my detectors that are set up for small gold items. We still wouldn’t know what the search conditions would be like till I arrived at the location. She would have a matching piece of the gold backing, so I could test my equipment for a signal in the soil conditions of her backyard.

Two of my detectors and two different pinpointers had decent signals. I did get a weak signal in the grass with both detectors, but couldn’t get either pinpointers to give me a signal. The small backing must have been on edge or possibly there was something making the signal from the pinpointer? After some frustration, I decided to carefully scratch through the grass catching a small glimmer of the white gold. Boom! Successful recovery.

I’ve never heard of a La Pousette earring backing so after I returned home researched them on line. They are the the most secure backings for expensive diamond stud earrings. As I understand, some of the most expensive are sold as set ( post and backing). Over the past years of finding jewelry for people, I’m learning a lot about jewelry.

I was looking forward to helping Laura find this small piece of gold. Also, knowing it was going to be a challenge. Laura was appreciative to see how difficult the search was. She was glad that she didn’t buy or rent a metal detector for a Do It Yourself Search.

Rescuing Gideon’s Lost Platinum Wedding Ring: A Sunday Morning Success Story in Carpinteria

Saturday afternoon brought a distress call from Emily, seeking assistance in locating her son-in-law’s platinum wedding ring lost during a beach outing. The urgency of the situation was evident as Emily described how Gideon, neck-deep in the ocean while boogie boarding, had inadvertently watched his cherished ring slip from his finger. With high tide engulfing the area, time was of the essence to execute a swift recovery plan.

Surveying the tide tables for Sunday morning, I identified a window of opportunity during a favorable low tide at 6 a.m. in Carpinteria, approximately 45 minutes away. Gideon and Erica, married for less than a year, faced the heartache of losing a symbol of their love during what was meant to be a well-deserved beach retreat for the exhausted ER doctor.

Arriving at the beach before dawn, I seized the narrow window of opportunity afforded by the receding tide. With mere minutes to spare before the waters reclaimed the shoreline, my Minelab Equinox detected a promising signal beneath the sand. With careful precision, two scoops later yielded Gideon’s precious ring, gleaming amid the grains of sand.

The joyous reunion with Gideon, Erica, and Emily underscored the significance of our successful recovery mission. As the sun rose over Carpinteria, the restored wedding ring served as a beacon of hope and resilience amidst adversity.
