Lost Silver Pendant on soccer field….Found! Sanford, Florida!

DSCF2277DSCF2271How many people have been given a very special gift only to loose it shortly after receiving it?  Jared got a unique gift from his mother for Christmas–a silver pendant– and lost it two days later while playing soccer!  He is a good friend of mine and knows that I enjoy helping people find their lost rings and things.  And the field where he lost his pendant is just across the street from where we live so I figured in my spare time I could begin a grid search of the 70X50 yard field.  So early the next evening I set up my Whites DFX in Coin and Jewelry mode and started down the middle of the field.  And as it was a very recent drop and the pendant being silver I figured it would give a loud signal and be just under the grass.  Sure enough on my 5th pass down center field, there hidden in the grass was Jared’s pendant!  So glad to help out and thanks Jared for the reward!

Ring Found on Large Property .. Corona, Calif.

    imageJason called me Saturday evening from home in Corona, Calif. asking if I could help him. His friend had told him about TheRingFinders. He noticed his wedding ring missing after six hours of doing chores around his large property. Jason had spent a day and a half retracing all his activities in search of his wedding band. He lives on a large piece of property and had been doing a lot of work in almost every part of his yard. Almost everything he had been doing could have caused his ring to slip from his finger. He was taking down Christmas lighting decorations from his two story house, fences and trees. Dealing with hundreds of feet of cords coiling them up then putting them in storage boxes. He also took the Christmas tree from the house cutting off all the limbs to put them in large trash containers. On top of all that work he spend time cleaning his pool. All these activities were done without gloves and all these activities were the type of movements that would cause a ring to slip off a finger.

    During my 45 minute drive to Corona, my mind pictured a large property with a tough time consuming search. It’s more or less an adventure to go to an unknown location to search for a ring. Once getting to the location you need to ask as many questions as you can think of to narrow search area. The big decision is, “Where do you start ?” The last thing would be to empty all the trash from the containers and run the detector over the contents.

When I met Jason he took at least 15 minutes showing and explaining all the things he had done before noticing his ring missing. I can’t believe all the things he had been doing that morning he lost the ring. I put together a plan of attack to start in the backyard. My car was out front with my metal detector so I got my Minelab CTX 3030 set up. That’s when I changed my mind and began to tune up my detector in the front yard where Jason had taken decoration lights off a small tree. Guess what! Yes! White gold wedding band deep in the grass. 15 minutes to find it. This happens quite often at the beach, but not in situations where people notice the ring missing after hours sense that last remember seeing it. A little side note.. I’ve found several men’s wedding bands. Most the time the wife is more concerned about finding the ring. Most the time the wife calls. Sometimes the guys say they are in the dog house for losing the ring. In Jason’s case he was sincerely concerned about finding his ring. I got high fives and a big man hug. Thanks Jason for letting me help you..

Lost Ring Kits Beach Dog Park

Early morning New Years day I received a call from a young lady who had lost her diamond engagement ring at Kits Beach Dog Park.

Needless to say she was very upset and wanted to know if I could get there as soon as possible as the tide was coming in. I was making breakfast for my wife when I got the call so I finished making her breakfast jumped in my car and got there within 40 minutes .

The tide had already come up about 3 feet from where they had possibly lost the ring so I knew that it might be in a couple of feet of water. The young lady was very upset and could hardly talk to me about what happened. After a brief discussion about the ring I found out she received it on Christmas Day so she just recently became engaged…Say no more!

I started my search and found a piece of melted aluminum along with a bottle cap and then the third signal only three minutes into the search I saw her beautiful diamond engagement ring in the bottom of my sand scoop.

I love my job because of the smiles and happiness it brings to people, it’s amazing how much it means to someone especially when she just recently got engaged even more so when you had the ring for 30 or 40 years but like I say everybody ring has a story and this story had a happy ending! Ring Thrown off Balcony .. Recovered .. Huntington Beach, CA.

I had two calls within 20 minutes Tuesday morning. Both lost rings were lost as a result of arguments with spouses and the rings were thrown. It happens more often than people like to admit. I choose to search for the one that was lost in a public area first but  had no success in locating that ring. I’m sure it was found by somebody as it was a wide open area with hardly any hiding places.

Nikki’s mother called me about the ring and neckless that Nikki had thrown off a second floor apartment. They had searched for two days finding the neckless, but the ring was still waiting to be found. Nikki was embarrassed about her actions, but helpful with her description of how she threw the ring. The neckless did fall just in front of a large boxwood shrub. Then there was a 7 foot fence separating her garden area from her neighbor’s yard. The large shrub was going to be a challenge that I wasn’t wanting to tackle.  I decided to try the neighbors yard first, because it was more detector friendly. We could eliminate that area first, although it seemed like it would be pretty far to throw a small ring. First problem was the neighbor was not home and the gate was latched from the inside. Nikki called them and was given permission to search the yard. I found a ladder that helped give me access to open the gate. It only took a few minutes to find the ring. She was very happy to have it back on her finger, but still remorseful for losing her temper. It was a ring that had belonged her spouse’s grandmother and very sentimental to both of them.

Received a call from Kylie at lunch time today, she had lost her truck keys in one of her client’s back yard. I meet up with Kylie at her client’s home @ 2:30 pm she showed me where in the back yard she thought they could have dropped out of her pocket, after about 10 minutes of searching in the snow with no luck, she then showed me another spot that they could be she told me that she was walking up the sidewalk and slipped on the ice but did not realize that the keys was missing until she got back to her truck and could not unlock the door, you could see where she had been looking in the snow for them after doing some detective work I realized the keys had to be in the middle of the front yard and bingo found the keys next to her foot print in about six inches of snow. Wedding Ring Lost in Sand … Laguna Beach, CA. … Found with Metal Detector

It’s a cold winter for the rest of the country, but we are fortunate  in So. California. It’s been in the high 70’s to 80 degrees with lots of sun. I took advantage of a senior discount to go see a movie. Half way through the movie, I received  a call but could not answer it till I got to the lobby. With the technology of the smart phone it was easy to call the missed  phone call. Ten years ago this would not have been possible.  The success of this search was largely a result of people having smart phones and access to the internet. A man named David  answered the call and passed the phone to Robert who had lost his  gold and diamond wedding ring. After talking to Robert I decided I could always go to a movie. It was more important to help Robert find his ring. Robert said he was at the Montage Resort on the beach near Treasure Island and added that he wasn’t leaving till he found his ring. It took me about an hour to get to his location because I had to stop by my place to get my favorite detector, Minelab CTX 3030.

I was able to find a parking place which is not always easy at So. Calif. beaches. I also avoid paying expensive daily parking because I have annual parking passes for  4 of the major beaches and all the Calif. state beaches ( some of the fees are $15  per car)

Here’s  how the ring was lost. It’s your basic ” I took my ring off to put sunscreen on story”  there was a twist to this story because Robert handed his ring to his wife. Sandy put it on her lap forgetting it was there, she got up walking over to the other side of where they were sitting. Then she realized that the ring was gone.After searching through the sand with their fingers , David who was  on the beach near them came to help them. He told them that he had heard from  a friend  about TheRingFinders.com . David actually googled our website and called me. I wonder how many people walk away after losing their sentimental jewelry because they don’t know that TheRingFinders exists in many cities and countries?

It was not a hard search . After finding 2 dimes, a penny and a toy car ,  I got a signal near their daughter’s beach chair. I asked her to move the chair and instantly I got a strong gold tone.  Digging it up with my sand scoop was the easy part. Then the smiles and high fives happened. Robert told me he had worn the ring everyday for 15 years. It was also very important to Sandy his wife, she had chosen this ring for Robert 15 years ago. I’m guessing that Sandy also did not want to be responsible for losing this ring. This will also make a good beginning to the Thanksgiving holiday starting a day early. It was really a pleasure to meet David who helped Robert and Sandy find TheRingFinders directory. I would rather help somebody find their lost ring than see a movie any day .

Lost Wedding Ring… Found Des Moines, Iowa

Austins ring AustinI found a white gold wedding band today for a young fella named Austin. He lost it while mowing roadside ditches this summer. When he parked the tractor he noticed his wedding ring was gone.

At one point during the day he had stopped to clean the mower out and figured he lost it there. His dad had an older metal detector so he went over the area with it and said he found lots of junk but not the ring.

So I had the day off from work for Veterans Day and we decided to meet up and see if we could come up with it even though it was brutally cold out with the wind blowing out of the north. When I started the search I found out why he had trouble at this site. It was at a crossroads in the country and it seemed that everyone who stopped at the stop sign threw some kind of junk metal into the ditch. I had many good gold signals that turned into pulltabs, pop tops, foil, bits of cans and other assorted junk.

Luckily some of the dead grass he had pulled from the mower was still laying there in clumps so it marked where he had cleaned out the mower. In one of those clumps I got another good gold signal, a 12-16 on the CTX3030 at two inches. There under the dead grass was his ring!

Glad I could help him out and he was very happy to have his ring back.

Mesh Ring found in Surf at Del Mar, CA.

John called me while I was metal detecting near San Clemente, Ca.  He told me how he and his wife had taken their dog to Del Mar Dog beach Sunday for a run on the beach. His wife really didn’t feel like going but John persuaded her to go. The weather was perfect for a walk on the beach with their dog. The nice day was upset when John’s wife lost her Tiffany, silver mesh ring while throwing a ball for their dog to chase. It went directly into about one foot of water and immediately disappeared into the sand.

I would be about 45 minutes till I could get to the location, but there was still enough low tide to give it a try. I guess John called Tony Eisenhower , a fellow RingFinder . Tony contacted me and we both met with the information that John had given him. John was unable to leave work to point out the exact location, which is always a big help. Long story, short, the two of us were unable to find the ring before the incoming tide chased us out of the water.  I was not sure I could make it back Tuesday at the next best low tide, but after finding out that Tony could not make it. I went back as the tide was receding. I was worried that possibly somebody with a metal detector would find it and not return it to John, because he had posted the loss on Craig’s List with a perfect google map. Most people are honest, but there have been reports about people using Craig’s List for their own personal treasure maps.

When I arrived at dog beach Tuesday about noon there were no other detectorists on the beach. I started the grid search without the pressure of an incoming tide. Within 30 minutes my CTX 3030 gave me a nice solid signal and there was the ring. This part of the beach has a medium hard packed sand and the surf has been more or less calm. Even with these conditions, the ring had managed to work its way down about 5 inches in the sand in about 48 hours.  It is always an advantage to have the person that lost the item present to point out the location, but in this case John was unable to leave work. On the other hand, sometimes I get a little nervous when the person is standing there with that look of doubt and despair. It is all worth the time to see the smiles and joy when you return a sentimental ring. I did not get to see John’s wife when he surprised her with the good news, I know it was a special moment for her.

Lost Ring Yakima Washington

I received a phone call asking if I could help find a lost ring. The story was that she and her husband were on a short get away trip to try and relax. Her husband has been ill with cancer, and they needed a break so came to Yakima as one of their stops. Needing his medication in the back of the car they pulled over at McDonald’s. When he shut the back hatch of their SUV he heard a metallic “ting” sound and noticed his large gold wedding ring had flown off his finger.   He has lost allot of weight from the illness. They looked for the ring, but with the fall leaves piling up in the curbs and the low cut landscaping in the parking lot they could not find the ring.

Feeling pretty upset about the lost ring, they returned to their hotel room and were planning on canceling the rest of the trip. Not wanting to leave town without the ring she began to search online for a place to rent a metal detector. She could not find one to rent, but during the search she found my name on the  Ring Finders Metal Detecting site. Once contacted we agreed to meet at the parking lot. After searching the wind swept leave piles next to the curb no ring was found. I expanded the search into the landscaping and was able to find the ring in short order.

She was very happy and cried some tears of joy at the found ring. You can imagine how upsetting it would have been to leave town without this ring.   I can say that this is one of my most memorable searches. I was very very happy to find the ring. That huge smile when she had the ring back was priceless.  I do love finding lost ring.

Lost Engagement Ring Recovered at Fort Meade, Maryland!

It’s been quite a while (Jan. 2014) since my last last blog, service request and recovery, but that is a good thing as no one wants to lose something precious or important to them.  That changed when Anni contacted me last Wednesday after she lost her engagement ring the Saturday before. She was referred to me by someone who I’ve helped out in the past. That goes to show that people who you help out are truly appreciative and remember such things.  As I usually like to do, I’ll let Anni tell you the story…..

During a family photo shoot in the park, my engagement ring slipped off my finger. I noticed it almost immediately but the park was large, the grass was thick and many leaves had fallen from the trees making it very difficult to locate where the ring may have fallen off.
After looking for the ring and being unable to find it, we borrowed a metal detector and spent the next few days using the metal detector for several hours each day trying to find the engagement ring. After two long days, our metal detector found two pennies, a gum wrapper and the tab to a soda can.
Using a community social media site, I reached out to see if anyone was aware of a “lost and found” office I could contact. Although there was no “lost and found” office, one person had referred me to a “professional ring finder” that had been able to successfully find her wedding ring that had been lost outside and covered in snow.
In desperation, I contacted Jim Wagner, “the professional ring finder,” to see if he would be able to help find my engagement ring. Although the ring had suffered through two days of heavy rain and been lost almost an entire week, Jim was confident he would be able to find the ring.
Jim was professional and responsive and met with us the very next day after contacting him. We had a general idea as to where the ring may have fallen, so he used that knowledge coupled with his experience as well as his high-end metal detecting equipment and was able to locate the lost ring within approximately 30 seconds. He found the ring in the same area we had already searched early in the week using our own metal detector.
I am eternally thankful. It is such a terrible feeling when you know you have lost something so dear to you and not sure if you will ever see it again. Jim was extremely professional, personable, prompt and helpful. He works with the top of the line equipment and has a real passion for finding things. Best of all, he genuinely wants to reunite people with their precious, lost valuables and he gets great satisfaction from helping people.
