Dawna emailed me late last night asking if I would help find her ring. When I called her this morning she told me that she had been doing yard work on Tuesday and that evening noticed her ring was missing from her finger. Over the next few days she went out to try and find it but with no luck, then thought that perhaps she had lost it in her bedroom and was unable to find it there either.
When I arrived around 8:30 this morning she showed me where in the yard her ring might be, and said that she had also worked in her flower pots. I checked a small area in her front yard, then moved to the back yard and did the same. Her ring was in the last pot that I checked in the back yard. My pin-pointer picked up a strong signal about three inched down. Another Happy Client. Thank you Dawna for e-mailing TheRingFinders.
Hi, my name is Larry Royal, I live and grew up(64 years) on the Central Coast of Calif. with Pismo Beach, Oceano Beach, Avila Beach, Morro Bay, Cayucos and San Simeon as my main metal detecting beaches. I have been a treasure hunter all my life and metal detecting for over 15 years and know the area quite well. Since retiring from the work force 7 years ago what was once a hobby has now turned into a fun, full time quest to find lost treasures on the beach and return them to their owners.
I joined “The Ring Finders” as I saw it as a great opportunity to let more people know of my rewarded base service of helping people find their lost treasures. I have found many rings and lost items on the local beaches and only wish I could find every owner. I hunt in the ocean and on the dry sand and have good tips on how to help someone find their lost rings, necklaces, cellphones and other lost treasures. Just 2 days ago I recovered a 1 ct diamond ring for a lady who was crying for 2 days over losing it and the smile and joy on her face when I handed back to her was priceless.
I’m very well know by the Pismo Beach LEO and the “Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area”, (aka; Pismo Beach) parks & beach personnel, if you contact them about a lost ring they will probably direct you to me. Destiny and Carlos came to Newport Beach today to enjoy a day at the beach. Sometime after they set up their beach blanket Destiny stood up for a second brushing off sand off her hands. As she shook her hand her gold/diamond engagement ring went flying into the sand. She and Carlos spent more than two hours sifting sand through their fingers with no luck finding her ring.
Destiny took out her smart phone and googled “how to find a ring in the sand”. That was how she found TheRingFinders.com and our directory. When she called me I told her I was only 3 miles from her location, but it may take about 20 to 30 minutes because traffic is crazy with road construction on Pacific Coast Hwy. I asked them not to leave the location. It is sometimes hard to find the exact location once you leave.
When I arrived the sun was setting with a cool breeze. They were the only people on the beach. They looked worn out and were anxious to go home. I could see the doubt in there eyes, they were not quite sure if a metal detector could find the small gold ring.
I backed off from where she thought it was to get a few practice swings and set up the sensitivity on my detector. First target was a pull tab which sounds similar to a gold ring. Then a second sound that turned out to be Destiny’s ring. She said, ” I love that machine”.. It turned out to be a good day at the beach except for two hours of frustration running their fingers through the sand. It was a pleasure to be able to help this young couple.
Maria called me Tuesday morning asking for help to find her iphone that she lost in the sand Monday evening. She is from the Ukraine studying at Santa Monica college. Her phone contains a lot of information that is not backed up. She had been playing with her 2 sons very close to the Venice pier when the phone was lost. It is a high pedestrian traffic area making it possible that somebody had found it.
When I met Maria she told me that the phone had been found and turned into to main lifeguard headquarters. She was on her way to pick it up. I was glad that she would soon have it and all the important information it contained. She thanked me for coming. It is a beautiful day so I decided to do some detecting on this tourist beach before the sunbathers came out on the beach.
After about 30 minutes, Maria came walking up to me with a disappointing look on her face. The iphone at the lost and found was not her’s. We looked at the location that she thought it was lost. She pointed out an area about the size of basketball court. Part of it had been leveled out with a small beach tractor. I started at the lower end of where the tractor moved the sand. After two 30 foot passes with my CTX 3030 .. I got a signal that didn’t sound like anything very large, but that is normal for the CTX. I put my scoop into the dry sand gently as not to damage it. The first signal was Maria’s phone. You can see she was happy to have it back.
A bonus for the day was about two hours later when a older lady came up to me on the beach. She could not speak very good english, but I realized that she was Maria’s mother when she thanked me for finding her daughter’s iphone. Every search is different with different challenges. I love it.
Leanne and her husband were at Honeymoon Island enjoying a sunny day her husband. He was crab walking through the stones to get back to shore and lost his ring in the rocks. After looking for a while, they asked at the ranger station if anyone had turned in a ring. The Ranger said no but that he knew some people that would come help them look for the ring. She gave them Howard Metts phone number. They contacted Howard and he called Stan Flack and asked him to meet at 2 o’clock on Honeymoon Island so they could look for the ring. The conditions were very rough, 3 to 4 foot waves on an incoming tide. Howard and Stan ventured into the rough water and after about one and a half hours of hard searching Howard was able to get a good signal. After some digging through all the rocks the ring was recovered and returned to Leanne. She returned to the car where her husband was waiting in the car with their young daughter. She returned his ring and he was very happy and they all ended the day with great big smiles. Howard is now the King at Honeymoon Island. Nice work guy’s!!!!!!

Engagement ring lost at Honeymoon Island State Park, Florida recovered
Linda from Clearwater was at the beach with some friends enjoying a sunny afternoon at Honeymoon Island when a wave hit her from behind and knocked her engagement ring off. After searching with no luck, Linda asked the guard station if anyone had turned in a ring and the Ranger told her that there were two ring finders looking for a cross at the beach for someone and maybe they would help. Linda found Howard Metts and Stan Flack at the beach and showed them the place at the next pavilion down the beach where she lost her ring. After about 45 minutes of hunting Howard was able to find the ring and smiles were all around. Nice work Howard.
On April 17, 2015 I received a call from Dan asking if I could help to find his lost Platinum wedding band. He told me the story of the lost ring.He and his wife had visited a natural pond here in New Jersey.They were enjoying themselves swimming when Dan pushed off of the wall to swim further out.At that point he felt his ring leave his finger.The remainder of their visit was spent trying to locate the ring to no avail.
Dan returned at a later date with a mask and an underwater flashlight,but he had no success finding the ring. The operator of the pond told Dan that they would be draining the pond in the Spring.
Dan called me and we met at the pond on Sunday,April 26 to search in the now drained pond. After an initial search in the area that Dan remembered swimming in, we did not locate the ring.I shifted my search area about 15 feet and in 5 minutes had a good signal on my detector. I brushed away about 2 inches of mud right at the side of the wall and there was his ring!
What a feeling to hand Dan his previously lost ring and see his face light up. This made his day as well as mine .the total search time was 1 hour, time well spent!
Yesterday at around 5 pm I received a call from a young man named Adam who asked me if I was the guy who found rings…I said ”I’m that guy”
He told me his wife had lost both of her rings in the sand and after 5 minutes they found the wedding band but they couldn’t find the platinum engagement ring.
This is most common as its a thinner band and harder to see and if you walk on it, its gone from sight.
I was getting ready to pick up my grandson so I headed out to help them right away, he said that he and some other people at the dog Park/ beach were searching for it and I told them to stop as they could bury it deeper and make it difficult to find.
I grabbed my Minelab CTX 3030 and headed to the beach, when I got there I was greeted by Adam who was happy to see me but anxious to get started with the search.
Sitting on a log nearby was a couple of people that helped the young man and his wife search for the ring, they told me that they had invested interest in the search and wanted to see a happy ending.
The young man’s wife went home to get dinner started for their two young children so you can imagine her concern. Well I started the search in the area that they found the first ring and when It wasn’t there Adam said that his wife did go out towards the water at low tide.
I wasn’t finished searching the hot zone when I got a good hit (1310 on the CTX) and I knew this had to be the ring, I bend down and reached into the sand and pulled out a beautiful platinum diamond ring! It took about 2 minutes to find his Smile! The lady and her husband who were watching the search were as excited as we were to see it!
I gave Adam a ride home and I got to meet his lovely wife and see her smile.
I love my job!

Friday night my friend George sent me an email that a gentlemen named Sahak Vardanyan (Sam) from Los Angeles had lost his ring in shallow water at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Wednesday. George currently only does dry land detecting so he gave me some additional locating data and I told him I would look in the AM. Time was critical as Sam and his wife Annie were leaving Sunday. My fellow ringfinder on Oahu Don met me at the beach at 0530. We brought our Excalibur’s and Don went out on scuba and I took off to do the wave curl and shallow water where the ring most likely came off. On about my fourth line in the grid search in waist deep water I got that tone we all know as GOLD. I dug in my scoop and low and behold there was a pull tab!!! What? It was definitely GOLD. I made another sweep and there was another target. Yep, fooled me the first time but the second scoop was Sam’s wedding ring. I contacted Sam by email and we met under the Rainbow Tower so I could return his ring. I think you can tell by their “Smiles” this vacation was going to be just fine. Aloha to Sam and Annie!
Last night at around 10:15 pm I received a call from a young man that explained to me that his fiancé had lost her engagement ring on the side of the road where they were walking. In actual fact he accidentally pulled the ring off while holding her hand and it went flying into the grass, the ring wasn’t fitting the young lady perfectly it was a bit loose.
You can only imagine the disappointment and heartbreak this young couple felt for over an hour and a half of searching for the ring in the grass and waiting for me to arrive.
When I arrived I was greeted by young couple and they explain the situation and showed me what happened. I took a look at the search area and thought to myself this could be a fast recovery… but most times when I think that… it’s the exact opposite.
I set up my searchlights I set up my GoPro camera and tuned up my Garrett AT Gold and began to search, we had a young lady on a bike stop to watch and within 10 seconds I had found the ring!
Smiles everywhere! Its the greatest feeling in the world for me to see how happy you can make someone! And the young lady in the video was so happy for the couple as well. I truly have the greatest job in the world!
