Wedding Ring Lost at Clearwater Beach (found) by SRARC

Mike was down from Virginia visiting Clearwater Beach with his wife and 3 children for spring break. Yesterday afternoon he stepped out onto the beach and into the water. When he got about knee deep he thought it might be a good idea to remove his wedding ring and store it in his pocket for safe keeping. As he was pulling it off of his finger it slipped from his grip and fell into the water. After frantically searching on his hands and knees for a while it became clear that he would not find it. He returned to his room and worried about it for several hours before searching the internet for help. When he did, the Ring Finders popped right up and he found the SRARC Ring Finders group. He called that evening and we set up a meet time in front of the Hotel on Clearwater Beach. At 8:00 am the next morning, Mike Miller, Mark Sillence, Wayne Cree, Jerry Schneider, and Rick Magyar showed up for the recovery. After listening to Mike’s story and getting clear on the area the wedding ring was lost we started the search. In about 15 minutes Rick gave the thumbs up and brought Mike his ring. We got lots of smiles and hugs from him as he celebrated the return of is ring. It was a real pleasure for us to meet Mike and be able to make his day. Thanks to all who participated.

Precious Pendant Lost Found and Returned in Oldsmar, Florida

Nancy’s daughter was getting out of a car on a visit to Nancy’s home when her pendant chain broke.  She was able to catch the chain while watching the pendant fall into the thick plush grass and disappear. The family searched the area but could not find it.   Nancy contacted Mike Miller at SRARC and asked if they could help. Mike contacted Howard Metts to conduct a search.  The search area was a very small plot of thick grass between the sidewalk and the curb in front of the house.  After about 15 minutes Howard got a signal with his detector and was able to use his pin pointer to coax the pendant out of the thick grass.  Nancy said her daughter will be very happy to see the pendant again.  This is Howards second return this year and its only January! Nice work Howard and we are all happy to see the smile on Nancy’s face.

Bellaire Causeway Lost Go Pro Found and Returned by SRARC

Matt received a brand new Go Pro 3 for Christmas and recorded the celebrations his family enjoyed over the holidays. With lots of space still available for filming he took the camera to his favorite fishing spot and decide to try and get a few underwater shots of his lure as he worked it into shore. He walked out to the edge of an oyster bar he was working and placed the camera right at the edge of the bar and wedged it into place with the shells. He walked away to get a good angle to drag the lure past the lens and when he returned, the water had become very muddy from his foot steps. He looked and looked for hours, He even got some snorkel gear and swam around the area searching but had no luck. He was heartbroken for the loss of the camera, but mostly for the loss of the precious pictures of his family.

He eventually found some of the members of the SRARC ring finders team and we put together a search to recover the camera. Mike Miller scheduled the search for 8:00 am at the lowest tide of the week. The team (Mike, Paul Hill, Ed Osmar, Rick Magyar, Stan Flack, and Mark Sillence) went to work right at 8:00 am and in less than a minute Paul spotted the Go Pro setting in the oyster bed. We didn’t even have a chance to fire up the metal detectors. Nice job Team SRARC!!!!!

Matt had to work so he wasn’t around when we found it but we contacted his wife who told us where to find him. We delivered the camera to him at his workplace, and as you can see in the picture he was very pleased. It was a pleasure to be able to find and return his Christmas gift and great to see the big smile on his face.

Dunedin Gold Ring Found in Post Hole Pile and Returned by SRARC

Jill Cicero was having a new fence installed in the backyard of her new Dunedin home with her father supervising the installation of the posts.  Her father noticed his gold ring was missing halfway through the job and stopped all work asking his daughter to find someone to help find the ring.  Jill found our club SRARC on The Ring Finders and contacted Tom Jones who called Howard Metts, a member that lives in Dunedin.  Howard went out late that afternoon and after 45 minutes of searching with his detector had no luck.  Switching to a pin pointer Howard searched the dug post holes  and at the second post hole found the ring in a pile of soil between the post and fence.  Howard contacted Jill who was coming home from work and informed her of the find.  Jill and her father were very happy to see the ring again.  What a way to start the new year.

Nice recovery Howard, nice to se the smile in Jill’s face.

Platinum Diamond Wedding Ring Lost then Found and Returned on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida

Platinum Diamond Wedding Ring Lost then Found and Returned on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida

Julia joined her folks, siblings, and spouses/boyfriends in a condo on Indian Rocks Beach for the Christmas/New Years Holiday. After a week of beautiful hot weather a little wind kicked up and the chance to do a little Skim boarding presented itself. The whole gang headed down to the water with their boards and just as Julia was about to test her skills, her father warned her to take off her wedding ring. She reached for it and pulled just as her father yelled “Don’t take it off in the water”, but he was a second to late. The ring slipped out of her hand and dropped into the water and instantly was out of sight. They all looked until dark and even then got out their cell phones and searched by the light hoping they would see the ring shining back at them. It was not to be.

That evening, Julia’s sister did a search on the internet and found SRARC on the Ring Finders site. Mike Miller got a text at 10:30 pm that night asking for help. He put together a team of club members and they meet Julia and the family the next morning at 10:00 am. After spending a few minutes getting the story of what had happened and making the search area as narrow as possible the hunt began. About 30 seconds later, Rick Magyar took the first dig and there it was. The family were all amazed and we had plenty of smiles on all of their faces. Thanks to Rick, Stan Flack, Mark Sillence, and Mike for making the effort.

We at SRARC are all very happy to have made this New Year’s Eve a happy one for Julia.

Gold Wedding Ring Lost, Found, and Returned on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida

Gold Wedding Ring Lost, Found, and Returned on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida

While checking his email Thanksgiving morning, member Stan Flack saw a request for help finding a ring. A quick call and some info exchanged, Stan arranged to meet Enriwue and his sister Kitty at the beach. The rest Enrique tells in his own words.

During the Thanksgiving break, my family and I were visiting with relatives on Indian Rocks Beach.  A number of my brothers and sisters, along with their families, were playing on the beach and enjoying the warm fall weather.  Having just celebrated my birthday and looking forward to Thanksgiving the following day, I was elated to be in the company of family and couldn’t have been happier.

After throwing the football with my brothers and nephew for a few minutes, I looked down in shock to realize that my wedding band was not on my hand.  I immediately called out to my family and we all began a search of the area.  After nearly two hours of searching on hands and knees and with the sun setting, I asked everyone to halt the search until the morning.  In reality, I knew that if we hadn’t found it by then, it was highly unlikely we would.

As a person who rarely misplaces items and never loses anything, I was devastated by the loss of my wedding band.  My wife was very supportive and insisted that we could “replace” it with a new special ring, but I knew that was not the case.  Years earlier, our wedding rings had been crafted from a single piece of platinum from a friend who was a jeweler.  Her ring remained on her finger, but mine was somewhere on the beach or worse, in the sand beneath the surf.

On Thanksgiving morning, I woke up and my mind instinctively began to trace the steps I had taken before losing my ring.  It was sickening to think that my ring was somewhere on that section of beach, but out of sight to my family and me.  My wife and I began to research metal detectors on my laptop and tried to identify any store that might be open on the holiday.  Within the first few minutes, we stumbled upon the website of the SRARC (Suncoast Research & Recovery Club).  We were amazed by the stories people had shared regarding the recovery of their special items, specifically wedding rings.  My wife decided to send an email to the group, suspecting that we would not receive a reply until after the holiday weekend.

To our surprise, she received a call on her cell phone within minutes.  The man who called was Stan Flack, and he wanted to ask me a few questions about my ring.  As I retraced my steps a day earlier with him over the phone he said, “well I live just minutes from that beach, I’ll meet you there in a few minutes.”  I was astonished that anyone responded so quickly, and moreover that they would be willing to act immediately.  I met Stan and his wife Linda on the beach where I had lost my ring a day earlier.  They retrieved two metal detectors from their car and walked with me on the beach.  After a few minutes orienting themselves to the landscape, they began to search the area.  Each time Stan or Linda searched their “scoopes”, my heart pounded in anticipation.  After nearly two hours (and my own unsuccessful attempts using a spare detector), they decided to postpone the search until the following morning when they could amass a group of their colleagues from the SRARC to search the large section of beach.

I had grown up in the Tampa Bay area and had spent many years enjoying the Gulf of Mexico.  Some of my fondest memories involve the Gulf itself and the spoil islands, waterways, and beaches that adorn it.  I convinced myself that night, that instead of “losing” my ring, I would consider it a gift to the Gulf for the many blessings, including my wife and family, that were the product of the Gulf beaches and the experiences of my life.  I could always get a new ring.

Despite this outlook, I showed up earlier than planned on that same stretch of beach the next morning with a heart full of hope that Stan and his friends would find my ring.  One after another they arrived at the beach, until six of them stood before me and I offered again the story that I had told Stan and Linda the day before.  After Stan provided direction to the team, he asked if I would like to use a spare detector to assist.  Although unlikely that I would do anything productive, I accepted the detector as I refused to allow these good people to search for my loss while I sat on the beach and sipped my coffee.

As I moved along the soft sand, sweeping the machine side to side, a number of different audible chirps, beeps, and tones alerted me to different metal below the surface, or nothing.  Stan had explained the device to me, and described the specific tone and range reading that I would see on the display if I detected platinum or another piece of heavy metal.  After only a few minutes, I came across a loud tone that (as I will never forget), read “55”.  I ran my detector several times back and forth over the spot, and slowly scooped away batches of sand.  The tone remained consistent and I began to grow anxious, so I got Stan’s attention nearby and he came to where I stood.  I told him that I had a strong tone and he confirmed that with his detector.  He placed his scoop in the middle of the area, just inches from where I had searched and my heart raced.  As he emptied his scoop and sand fell from the small holes, only a large platinum ring remained.  His eyes wide open in surprise, he yelled “no way!”  I looked in his scoop, hastily retrieved my wedding band, and placed it on my ring finger.  In a split moment, I hugged him and we yelled in excitement.  As the rest of the crew gathered around us with smiles, laughter, and congratulations, the amazement of the moment began to settle upon us all.  I had located my own lost wedding band.

What an incredibly special moment.  What was most amazing was the reaction of the SRARC members on the beach that morning.  They were thrilled for me and happy to have been part of the event, but this was not their first time experiencing this feeling.  I could tell they had done this before.  They smiled, shook my hand and gave hugs, but then happily set out to search different parts of the beach and walk in the surf, some of them having driven 45 minutes or more to be part of the search that morning.

I must have told this story a hundred times already (some repeats to the same family members that smile and tolerate me as family does).  In the world we live in now, we rarely witness people do the right thing for the right reasons.  I was happy to witness that firsthand over the Thanksgiving break, and am so blessed to have met Stan, Linda, and the other members of the SRARC (Mark, Mark, Rick, and Ed) who made the trip that very early morning after Thanksgiving to help me.  Thank you.

Gold and Diamond Wedding Ring Set Lost, Found, and Returned at Clearwater Beach, Florida

Gold and Diamond Wedding Ring Set Lost, Found, and Returned at Clearwater Beach, Florida

Steve and Elizabeth Yeagley and their two beautiful  little girls Sydney and Olivia were spending the day at Clearwater Beach on vacation from Lafayette, Indiana. Steve and Elizabeth had honeymooned at Clearwater 10 years earlier and this was their first chance to show the girls a nice sandy beach and the gulf of Mexico. To give the girls some shelter from the sun they erected a canopy and thinking ahead they removed their wedding rings for safe keeping and put them into a small pocket in the canopy roof. They enjoyed the morning and the girls just fell in love with the beach.

As early afternoon approached they decided to fold up the canopy and head back to their hotel for lunch. After picking up all the toys and putting the canopy back into it’s case, they headed for their room. When they reached the showers at the edge of the beach, Elizabeth remembered they had not retrieved their rings from the canopy pocket. When they opened the pocket their rings were not there. They quickly returned to the spot on the beach where they had been sitting and someone had already spotted Steve’s ring shinning in the sand. They then searched for Elizabeth’s rings but had no luck. Steve did a search on the internet for someone with metal detectors that might help. He Found SRARC on The Ring Finders site and contacted Mike Miller. Mike was able to respond right away and an hour later met him at the beach site. After searching the entire area that Steve thought the rings would in Mike started working the path that they had used to leave the beach. Mike worked back to where they had been sitting and still came up empty. A couple had come to the beach after Steve and Elizabeth had left and had set up a sun shade right next to where they had been. They were packing up to leave so Mike waited for them to leave and sure enough within a few seconds found Elizabeth’s rings right where the sun shade was sitting. Mike got lot’s of hugs and there were a few tears of happiness as well.

We at SRARC are happy we were able to recover Elizabeth’s rings and keep their vacation a happy memory with a great story to tell to family and friends.

Gold Wedding Ring Lost, Found, and Returned at Clearwater Beach, Florida

Gold Wedding Ring Lost, Found, and Returned at Clearwater Beach, Florida

On Friday, October 9, 2015, my wife and I along with our brother and sister-in-law were visiting Clearwater Beach in Clearwater, Florida. We were vacationing from New York and wanted to check out a Florida Beach while we were in Florida! We chose a spot on the beach and decided to take a dip in the water, not realizing the whirlwind of an experience we would have that day. We were wading and paddling through and soaking in the sun at Clearwater Beach. It was an incredibly nice beach and an experience that we didn’t have in NY.  I had told my wife to hold onto HER rings while she was in the water as I thought my own ring was feeling a little loose that morning. I mean…it was only 3½ months since we were married, I can’t be losing my ring at this time right?

While we were in the water, my wife, looking at her hand said “Oh, thank God I still have my rings on my finger. I’ll keep my fingers curled to keep it from falling.” A split second later, I find myself saying “Oh shoooot! My ring’s gone.” I was smiling and serious at the same time. I think it was shock. My wife said “you’re kidding right?”  And I showed her my hand full of five naked fingers. It was only 3 months and my ring was lost in the vastness of the Florida waters. I didn’t panic, thinking that any sign of panic would cause chaos and thoughts of sinking even more into the doghouse I thought I could be in. I kept thinking to myself that the more calm I would be the more likely I wouldn’t give up in finding my lost ring. I was holding onto a sliver of hope thinking that “hey… it was just a ring.” Our time in Florida was great but this would probably change all that in a split second.

But more importantly, this ring was incredibly significant. I mean, it was my wedding ring!! I remember the vow I made on the wedding day to my wife saying that I would give this ring to her as a sign of our constant faith and abiding love. This ring was blessed by priests and an important and close friend, a Bishop of the church who unfortunately passed away the morning after our wedding. There was deep significance behind the wedding rings that were blessed on our wedding day in June 2015. Surely, it wouldn’t be the same to get another replacement ring!

My wife and our brother and sister-in-law all searched extensively in the water for two hours searching in sections and combing the beach shores and asking people in the water to keep an eye out for a metal wedding ring! We couldn’t believe how nice the people at the Clearwater Beach were, just helping us look for this ring on their own time. We weren’t used to this kind gesture and were overwhelmed with their generosity.

We were about to give up and go home since we had a previous engagement that we had committed to and our family in Seffner, Florida was waiting for us. It was just then we saw someone with something that could help us at the very moment. Someone with a METAL DETECTOR! Aaron was casually walking along the shore line with his device when we approached him saying that we lost our wedding ring. When he asked us where we lost it, we told him it was somewhere in the water, not knowing that the metal detector could be used underwater.  He didn’t even hesitate and threw down his belongings into the sand and jumped into the water to continue our search. We were accompanied by another gentlemen casually wading in the water who was incredibly generous in helping us. We must have searched for another hour in the same area. We were coming close, hearing beeping sounds on the detector that turned out to be a dime and some possible mineral in the sand.

After an hour or so, we told Aaron that we had to leave since our family was calling us. We gave Aaron our phone number and told him to call us if he found anything.  His efforts were amazing. He didn’t give up. He kept assuring us that he would find this ring. We left Clearwater beach all bummed out that I had lost something pretty important and significant. We were even more bummed as we prepared for bed that night and realized it was a lost cause as the ring wasn’t found before the end of the day.

On Saturday, October 10, 2015, I got a call from Aaron who told me that he and a group of members from Suncoast Research and Recovery Club (SRARC) went out on Saturday morning with their metal detectors to locate this missing ring. He texted me the number of Mike Miller from SRARC who would provide details on getting the ring to us. I was beyond ecstatic. At a loss of words too. I called Mike and we talked about the ring and the significance of it and the efforts it took for his team to recover the ring. From the group of members who used their metal detectors in the water to find this ring to pinpoint the location of where this ring could be, I was amazed that random strangers would work tirelessly to help me! I told Mike that we were leaving for NY and couldn’t meet up personally since we were an hour away and at another function and mailing the ring to my address in NY was the best option.

We arrived back in NY from Florida and I opened the USPS package to find my missing ring!! This was UNBELIEVABLE and felt like a dream. I thought I had lost the ring for good in Florida and here it was back on my hand in NY.

As for me, I learned a few things with this experience. 1. To be a little bit more careful. 2. To realize and trust that there are good people all around you helping you. My wife and I had recently been fighting over many things, it was only 3½ months and we were honestly struggling with many things in our relationship this early into the marriage.  Honestly, losing the ring that day felt symbolic of how our relationship was going. Tossed into an ocean, lost in the sea without any hope or survival.

And being able to find the ring was symbolic of how much a journey of being married is and will be. There will be people (people you never expect to be pouring into the relationship) who will help you find your bearings and lead you into the right path. And this experience made me realize that life will take many turns and you’ll lose many things, but having hope and faith in people to help you will make a world of difference.

We are so grateful for incredible people in Florida who took time to help find my missing wedding ring. They were patient and tireless in their efforts making this rescue mission of my ring as if it was their own! From Aaron who had just moved down to Florida from Philadelphia on a work assignment who was a casually just combing the beach to Mike Miller and the SRARC team who worked together to find the missing ring….they found our treasure.

A special thanks to the SRARC team, Mike Miller, Stan Flack, Bill Gallant, and Mark Sillence, who took the time to make it a mission to find my wedding ring. We are incredibly grateful to you. Your time and efforts to help people find what was once lost. We remember your efforts.  You have brought a smile back onto my face and will be bringing smiles to many others who will need your help one day. Keep searching my friends, your treasure awaits! — good things will come to you and yours!

Engagement Ring Lost, Found, and Returned at Indian Rocks Beach, Florida

Engagement Ring Lost, Found, and Returned at Indian Rocks Beach, Florida

On a Saturday, my fiancée and I were hanging out on the beach near the edge of the water. I thought it would be fun to roll into the water but did not realize how hard the waves were crashing. Before I knew it my ring slipped off and into the water. I looked around, but could not find it. My friends and fiancée also tried to help me, but we had no luck due to the choppy conditions. The next day my fiancée did a search for, “missing rings in Largo, Fl”, and that’s when he found Ring Finders! He went to the Suncoast Research and Recovery Club page and sent an email in hopes that someone could help. Stan immediately contacted him and got more information. We were not able to go out the following day, but that Tuesday we arrived at the same location we lost it around 6pm. I was praying that no one had found it already, but after a 20-minute search, Chris had indeed found something!

I was beyond ecstatic and we are so grateful for Stan, Chris, and Ed for helping me get my lost ring back. I thought for sure it was lost forever so we want to thank all the volunteers at Suncoast Research and Recovery Club for all they do and hope they can continue finding treasures for many years to come!

Sentimental Wedding Ring Recovered on Indian Shores Beach, Florida

Lorena was out with her family for a day at the beach over the Labor Day weekend. Late in the afternoon she decided to go for a quick dip in the gulf before heading for home. As she stood in the water about waist deep she felt a ring slip from her finger. The ring was passed down to her from her father who has since passed and it was very important to her.

She and the family looked for about an hour without finding the ring so on the way home she goggled metal detector Clearwater and up popped SRARC on The Ring Finders blog. She called Stan and he made a fast trip to the location where Lorena met him. Stan hunted for about 45 minutes until it got too dark and stormy to continue. SRARC scheduled another hunt the next day. Lorena met Chris, Mark, and Mike and showed them where she thought it might be found. About 15 minutes later Mark pulled his scoop up and there it was. There were plenty of hugs and smiles to go around with Lorena overjoyed to have her father’s ring back on her finger.

Special congratulations go to Mark Sillence for getting his first ever ring on his first ever hunt with the SRARC recovery team. Nice work Mark and the rest of the SRARC team.
