Lost Ring in the Gulf – FOUND!!!

This is an awesome ring that I actually recovered a couple of weeks ago but I’ve been waiting to post and keeping it safe until Patrick was able to get back down here from Huntsville, AL.  I love this story because it seems like what I would do if the situation was reversed.  Patrick called me after he and his wife had already gone home and told me that his wife had lost her ring in the Gulf of Mexico 9 days earlier! 😳  They had already contacted their insurance carrier and been told that they had a claim.  Unfortunately, as we all know, when you file a claim your future payments go up.  Most importantly, even though you may be able to pay for a replacement, you can never get back the actual ring that holds so many memories unless you go find it.  That’s why when Patrick and his wife stumbled across TheRingFinders.com and saw my page, they gave me a call.  I was feeling lucky having already found a ring that morning an hour away so I decided to head out to Pensacola Beach late that afternoon.  The people at the Margaritaville hotel were awesome and quickly gave me permission to park so that I could help out one of their previous guests.  When I got down to the beach I thought to myself that this would definitely be a record for wave height if I was able to find it.  I waded in and I was very quickly taking waves over my head (I’m 6’3” 😳) but luckily they were spaced out where I could work and I like a challenge.  Patrick gave fantastic directions over the phone and I must admit that I was surprised when after less than 10 minutes I heard a fantastic signal and I was able to gently scoop up this gorgeous ring buried about 7 inches down.  To say that Patrick was thrilled when I called him is an understatement!  I am so glad that they took a chance and reached out to me even after they thought it was lost forever!  What a great day!

Wow! What a weekend I had!! I went kayaking for a friend’s bachelorette party in the Hocking River. I ended up falling out of the kayak and losing my engagement ring, wedding ring, and my anniversary band in the river! I was completely devastated! After finishing up the river route, we went back to try to find my rings. The water was high and muddy, the currrent was fast, and it just felt like a lost cause. After returning home, I was searching online for some sort of way to attempt to find my rings. I came across this website. I thought it was a “shot in the dark” but definitely worth a try to get my rings back. I emailed Steve because he seemed to be the closest person to where I lost my rings. Within a half hour, he emailed me back. He said that he would love to try to find my rings and that he could meet me sometime THAT AFTERNOON!!! I was completely grateful that a complete stranger would be willing to take time out of his afternoon to come help me look for my rings. I believed that he was sent to me from God!

We met at the canoe livery to go back to the area where I had fell out of the kayak. He was very professional and allowed me to show him where I was in the water before he began his search. As he was searching, all I could do was pray that he would be directed into the right area where my rings were lost. Then, a lady was coming down the river in a kayak and did exactly what I did in my kayak (except I fell out and she didn’t). I pointed that out to Steve and he went right to that area to continue his search. Immediately, he said,”Now, don’t get too excited but I have a really strong tone here in this area”. He took his scoop and scooped that area to check for my rings. After scooping, he said, “Well, I still hear a tone there but since your rings are in two separate bands, I am gonna bring this one over to the sand bar (where I was standing)”. He dumped that scoop out and right on the top, fell my anniversary band. I was so completely overwhelmed with emotion that I grabbed the ring, put it on my finger, and began to scream and cry! Then, he said that he was going to go back to that same area because he still heard a tone there. He scooped again and brought it over to the sand bar to dump. After rummaging through the rocks and dirt of that scoop, I saw my engagement ring and wedding ring at the bottom of that pile!!!! I was so so grateful and excited that he found all of my rings that I put it on my hands, still dirty, and again screamed and cried! I was so happy!! Steve, then, asked to help me wash the rings before we left so that they would be clean again. I cannot thank this wonderful, God-sent angel enough for retrieving my rings for me!! I would definitely recommend this website, and especially Steve, to anyone looking for a chance to find their lost items! He is a great guy and truly enjoys this hobby of his!! Thank you again so much Steve for what you have done for me and my husband! This will be a story that we are going to tell everyone that we know so that we can spread how wonderful these people on this website can be!

A tip that helped me tremendously was when we saw the lady go sideways in her canoe and hit the log and about fall in, Lauren immediately pointed it out to me that that was what had happened to her so I then could visualize where she went in. Earlier I had taken an old ring of mine and tied it to a piece of fishing line, waited out into the current and dropped the ring in the water and noticed that the ring had only gone 2 to 4 feet downstream before it hit the bottom.

Found Wedding Band at 3rd Beach, Stanley Park.

I get a call from a young lady that told me her husband lost his titanium wedding band at 3rd beach in Stanley park. After asking a few questions I find out that he lost the ring 2 days ago, that’s a long time to be lost on a public beach. I looked up the low tie and it’s 10 am the next morning, so I get up at 4:30 am and head to the beach to hunt the water as its going out. I had to be at work at 10 am so I needed to find the ring quickly.

When I get there I kill some time searching the dry sand as the tide goes out, I was getting lots of change and lots of garbage but it wasn’t why I was there. Tide was starting to go out so I hit the area the ring was in and I start to do my grid search. After around 45 minutes of searching I get a good signal and one scoop later I see his Black titanium ring.

Lost Engagement Ring – Gulf Shores, AL – FOUND!!!

I love good people and I really love being able to help them out when they have lost a ring.  I met my new friends Christa and Ryan today in Gulf Shores, AL after reaching out to me about  the possibility of finding Christa’s rose gold and diamond engagement ring that she lost in the shore break yesterday.  They told me that they were here from Texas and Christa had been cooling off in the water and was walking out of the surf when she was knocked to her knees by a wave.  She immediately realized that her ring was gone and Ryan helped try to search down in the sand for it only to discover that it was missing.  Christa found me last night on TheRingFinders.com and I returned her email this morning.  Ryan and I got a chance to talk shortly thereafter and I knew I had to help them out immediately.  My kids and I headed that way despite the rain and found Ryan in the parking lot buying us a parking pass, what a great guy.  We walked down and met Christa on the beach and talked for a second.  I quickly lost focus and had to talk to a well meaning guy with a metal detector about how we were thankful but we didn’t want his help.  After hopefully explaining that I didn’t need his help and in fact his presence there was making my new friends very nervous, he finally stalked us from a bit farther away and I could get started.  This is why it’s so important to start looking for it immediately.  About 45 mins later, Christa and Ryan came and got me and confessed that they may have been down the beach to the east 40-50yds.  I was thrilled to hear it because this means they have really been thinking about where the ring is.  I quickly moved that way and started over my grid search and after several coins I finally found that sweet sound and and showed them the scoop.  You can tell by the pictures that they are very happy to get the ring back.  Thank you so much Ryan and Christa for trusting me with your treasure.

Lost Wedding Band Found Ocean City NJ By Ring Finders South Jersey John Favano

I received a call from Abe after he lost his 14k white gold wedding band with diamonds on the first day of vacation in Ocean City NJ.  I met Abe at the beach and he said that the ring was in his pocket with his wallet.  When he went to meet the ice cream man he pulled out his wallet while walking and must have dropped the ring in the sand somewhere between where they were sitting and the ice cream man. Several people had been looking for the ring but there search was unsuccessful.  The search area was large and the ring was about 150 feet from where they were sitting. After a through grid and search of the area the ring came out of the sand! Abe came and gave me a huge hug and thanked me! Abe said the ring is very sentimental and was very happy that the ring was found!

LOST DIAMOND RING FOUND WAIKIKI

This all started when Lana gave me a call early August 8th  and asked if i would help look for her wedding ring which she lost in the water almost a week and a half ago. I let her know that I will do my best and give it a shot. Knowing that Waikiki is a detectors favorite and its been over a week I needed to get down there ASAP and bring along with me help. So, I asked my dad if he would be willing to help and as always… Dad said yes and we were out to Waikiki that very morning. After 4 and 1/2 hours my dad and I came up short. NO ring! We went home knowing we gave it a good scan but there was some variables like tide and there were a lot of people in the water. So, The very next morning I get a gut feeling to go back and look. I drive back out to Waikiki and start looking again. After 45 minutes I get a faint sound and decide to dig it. I dig a big scoop of sand out and toss it on the sea floor and run my coil over the hole. BOOM I get a louder tone and it sounds like gold. A few more digs and I run my coil over the gaping hole in the ocean bed in which i don’t hear anything. So, I run my coil over the mounds of sand that has been removed and BOOM its there. I scoop and whats inside my scoop is a huge size 11 14K White gold with diamonds and a center 2 karat diamond in the middle. I knew I found her ring. As i am on my way back to the shoreline to rinse off I see Hawaii News Now setup by the showers and I ask them if the lady from yesterday is ok? The exchange words and then Billy V from hawaii news now asked the question… Did you find her ring? i said YES! He asked to see it and if it would be ok to let hawaii News Now run a short story about this event. I said yes and the lights went on and then came ACTION! We were able to call Lana and film the good news of HOPE and ALOHA. Well this was definitely GOD orchestrated and the saying is true… ALOHA  IS ALIVE.

Metal Detector network pays off for Georgetown Park, Michigan man

While I was out searching for a ring today in Grand Haven, MI, I got a call from Ken L. about his wedding ring he lost while playing with his grandchildren in about 4 to 5 feet of water at the 8th avenue Park in Georgetown, MI. Although it was lost over a month ago I thought I would take a chance to see if I could find it before another detector did. I told Ken and his wife Janet that the chance of finding it would be slim and they should prepare themselves to to put in a Craigslist ad when they get home.

After about an hour of doing a grid search from 3 to 5 feet I decided to call it quits but told the couple I would get a hold of one of my club member friends who detects the park often. I messaged Terry Sparks on Facebook and got an immediate response to call him. I put Ken on the call and Terry said yes indeed he found the ring after Ken identified it with the engravings of his and Janet’s initials. After getting an address they were off to pick up the ring. I love the fact that I can depend on other metal detectors in our network to help out when needed.                                                                                                                          Thank you again Terry for your honesty and dependability.

By the way I did not recover the ring in Grand Haven due to lack of visibility in the river, I will be back in September.

Lost wedding ring found in Parkersburg Wv

I received an email recently from a lady in Parkersburg and she tells me that she lost her wedding ring and is “heartbroken”. We exchange phone numbers and decided on a time. I arrive and after introduction, I ask how she lost her ring. They both laugh(her and her husband) and she said….”well…..I was mad at him and took my ring off and threw at him!!”
I told her that more rings are lost that way that you realize. I took an old ring of mine and ask them to get to the spot where they were and throw the ring again. She thought I was crazy but assured her and she let it fly. I watched the ring so I had a trajectory and distance. After a short grid, I realized that she was mad so the ring probably went further. A short hunt and 10’ further I found her ring!! I found out that it was handed down to her from her mother in law. No wonder she was “heartbroken”. It was a good day!!

White Gold Wedding Ring Lost in Newport Beach Harbor, CA…Found and Returned.

Kellen called, he had lost his wedding ring in the harbor where he, family, and friends had rented a house for their vacation. Across the street from where they were staying was a little beach with a swim platform about 70 feet out in the water. While he was walking to the swim platform, he was fingering his ring trying to make sure it did not fall off, but it was a little loose to start with and it slipped off of his finger to his surprise. He immediately tried to catch it but it was already gone in the chest deep water. This was the ring his wife had given him 10 years ago when they were married, and he didn’t want to lose it. He dove and dove about 30 times trying to find it but the bottom was covered in muck and some type of small mussel which made it very difficult to identify the ring in the murky water. He found me online and asked for help in finding the ring. I checked the tide chart, and saw the tide was rising, so we made arrangements for me to come back in the evening at the next low tide.

When I arrived Kellen was waiting. I donned my wetsuit, and he and I discussed how the ring was lost, where he thought it might be in relation to the swim platform, and at what angle he had entered the water. With that information I walked out to the area and began the search. I got a real good signal and tried to scoop, but had a hard time retrieving the object. The mussels on the bottom were tied together with what seemed to be a spiderweb like algae which made it difficult to get the scoop in and out. I kept working on that signal until I ended up with an aluminum bottle. I continued the search, next finding an old crusted folding knife. I worked a grid shallower and shallower until in about waist deep water I received a nice smooth tone in the headphones. I dug, and in one scoop I had the object, so I knew it was shallow. I shook the scoop out but the mussels and algae had to be removed by hand to search for the metal item. It was almost dark, but when I removed the last bit of mussels, I could see the ring in the bottom of the scoop. I reached in, and slipped it on my finger so as not to lose it, then looked to the shore where Kellen was sitting, and raised my detector and scoop to let him know we had success. When I got to shore I handed the ring to Kellen who identified it as his. His wife had been out riding bikes with friends, and she pulled up as Kellen and I were talking at the curb. She was very happy to see the ring again as well. Really a great feeling to be able to be a help to others, doing what you enjoy!
