Ring found in Dennis Port, Cape Cod, MA returned!

A visiting California detectorist, Jim, was detecting on a Cape Cod Beach when a stranger, Arty, struck up a conversation. The conversation got around to items Jim had found. Artie asked Jim if he had found a Celtic Knot wedding band. Jim had but it was not at “this” beach. However, Jim did know of one found at the beach Jim and Arty were standing on. Jim gave Arty the detectorist’s contact information and Arty passed it along to Matt, the man who had lost the ring two weeks prior.

Within some fifteen minutes I was talking to Matt who could not believe I had found the ring and wanted to return it for just a Thank You Note. Long story short a few days later I returned the ring to Matt.

The strange twist in the story Jim is on the board of directors of a company who’s President had hired Matt several years ago. It sure is a small world and the meeting of strangers and a the ring’s return was just meant to be. Call it what you like, but strange occurrences do happen for a reason believe it or not!

It was Tuesday, July 22 and I was spending the day with my family at Glendon Beach (Dennis Port, MA). My friend Brian and I were throwing the football around in shallow waters when I noticed that I nearly lost my wedding ring after making a diving catch into the ocean. At this point, the normal person would have walked up to his belongings and taken the ring off but I, of course, didn’t do that!! Sure enough 3 minutes later I noticed that my ring had slipped off.

I spent nearly an hour looking for the ring and assumed it was lost forever. Later that week I ran into a lady with a metal detector and asked her if she had found a ring but no luck. Nearly two weeks later, and a day after we left the Cape, my friend Arty ran into a guy who also had a metal detector. He asked about my ring and this guy hadn’t found it either but he said it sounded ‘familiar’ to a ring his friend Rick had found at this same beach. He gave Arty a business card for the “The Ring Finders” which had Rick Browne’s contact info on it.

Shortly after Arty texted me Rick’s info I sent an email to The Ring Finders. Only 13 minutes after I hit send on that email Rick was calling my cell phone. Amazingly he had found my ring!! I thought for sure this ring was long gone and my wife and I were already considering replacement options. I cannot thank Rick and the The Ring Finders enough for finding my wedding ring!

Wedding Band Lost in Seal Beach, CA…Found.

I had just spent the morning metal detecting the beach, and was on my way home, but was going to do some shopping first. I had just entered Costco when my phone rang. Katelyn called and said she had lost her ring at the beach, and was unable to find it. Well I still had all of my equipment in the vehicle, and knew the beach was about 45 minutes away, and also knew that this beach is one that gets cleaned real good, so time once again was working against me. I told Katelyn I would be there as quickly as possible, and she said she would wait for me. I left my cart in the aisle and took off for the beach. When I got there she had cordoned off the area she thought the ring was lost in using towels, toys, baskets, and a wagon, which was a great help. I got ready, and began my search. I searched the whole area, and then we had to start moving the “fencing”. We moved everything, and no ring. Then we moved the wagon. I searched the area under the wagon, and then the area behind where it was parked, and that is when I heard the sweet tone of gold in my earphones. One scoop was all that was needed, and Katelyn had her ring back. What a joy to see her joy today. She told me she had taken it off when she was putting her hand in the sand, and then found it missing. She also said that she and her husband just celebrated their first wedding anniversary last month, so what a disappointment it was to lose the very symbol of that occasion. I am thankful I was able to help Katelyn today. Katelyn was referred to me by Stan Ross (fellow Ring Finder).

Lost Wedding ring in Rathdrum ID

Six Feet of water and a Muddy hay stack

I’ve worked hard in my career, I have dug post holes in 100 degree heat, I’ve cleaned up the foulest smelling liquid a human can produce, I’ve worked with people who hated life and loved making your life miserable. But floating in six feet of green murky water swinging a detector by the arm cup and trying to use a scoop without seeing where it was scooping has been the hardest job yet that I completely loved and would do for free for the rest of my life. I am 5’9” the spot where the ring went into the water was about 6’6”. So with the Excalibur fully extended and me holding on to the arm cup of the detector I searched for 2 hrs. I found a piece of a fishing reel, a cap off of a light bulb I think, a stinkin’ Lincoln, and most importantly Sky’s palladium wedding ring. First go at finding the ring only left me shivering and empty handed. But after the shivers went away and I got back in the water the next signal was the ring. Only problem was that I didn’t know that and I had to get it in the scoop. I had a strategy, though, I was setting the scoop in front of the coil and then scooping towards where I was floating. The third scoop was the ring and as I brought the scoop into view I saw the ring it was sticking out of the mud. I didn’t know for sure and after frantically swimming to shallower water I saw the ring in the bottom of the scoop. I looked up saw Sky looking at me so I gave him a thumbs up. I don’t think I have celebrated so hard since my kids were born. It was a needle in a muddy hay stack but by the grace of God and perseverance, a man named Sky has a story about how he got his lost ring back. Thank you for calling me Sky and thank you Chris for the directory that allows us to help people. It truly is the best job in the world like you say .

Although finding lost jewelry is not all about getting on the job quickly, on this particular job we spent more time preparing to find the ring than we did actually searching for it.  We received a call from a lady who had lost an earring.  Fortunately for us, it was a large loop earring and would sound off much like a normal ring.  Ironically, she had actually lost it on our property.  We operate a large dog boarding facility with a 13 acre members-only dog park with a few hundred members.  She had been walking her pooch when she realized she was missing an earring.  Luckily, she had a vague idea of where she may have been when it was lost.  However, 13 acres is a large property and if she wasn’t right, this would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Scrap Iron and I grabbed our gear and we went to work.  Fortunately she was right, and we we picked the right place to start, and the ring recovery Gods had been smiling down upon me lately.  We found it in about 2 minutes…before I even had a chance to turn on the camera!  Found it with the Garrett AT Pro. This was the 4th gold piece we had recovered for customers within just a couple weeks!

Longboat Key Florida Recovery

Matt came to Florida from Kentucky for an extended family vacation. He was married here and had not been in the gulf since he was married 3 years ago. On his first morning here, he walked out to the beach and began tossing a football with his brother-in-law. One pass was high and he jumped to catch it. His sunglasses started to fall off as he fell into the water so he reached to save them. He was successful in saving his sunglasses, but when he looked he saw that his wedding ring was missing. He contacted SRARC and Mike Miller responded. Five hours of hunting later out came the ring. Matt was overjoyed as well as his wife and they said Mike had just saved their vacation. Always fun to see their smiles.

Dog-gone Ring Recovered

Gina was on her back patio with her six month old puppy when she decided to do some yard work. She took her two rings off and laid them on the lounge chair to make sure she did not lose them.
She proceeded to work in the yard for a while. She then returned to the chair to get her rings but only one was there. After looking around she realized that the puppy must have pick up the ring and carried it off.
After a day of searching she found SRARC and called Tom Jones who happened to be about ten minutes away.
Tom arrived at the home and asked Gina to bring the puppy outside then proceeded to scan the coil of his detector around the dog to see if it possibly swallowed the ring. He got no signal from the dog then started to hunt the yard. The whole yard was hunted right up to the last 10 square feet where Tom hit on a platinum signal. He then looked down to see a shiny circle lying in the grass.
It turned out to be the platinum and diamond heirloom ring. The ring had been passed down from Gina’s late mother to her and she had hoped to pass it on to her own daughter one day.

August 8th 2014 I received a call from Lori asking do you still offer this service, Yes I do was my reply. She asked how does this work and I explained the reward system and she gave me details re the Gold and Diamond wedding/engagement rings she lost last week at the ball diamond.

I arranged to hunt right away because time is important when it comes to recovering lost rings.

After a couple of hours, I did not find it but promised to return after dinner.

Well expand the search and high tone, yes the ring. Wow what a beautiful ring.

Lori was so excited to have this awesome ring back where it belongs.

Swedish Ring Found and Returned to Swedish Owner

For Mike Miller it started out as a normal trip to do a little water detecting at St. Pete Beach. Pickings were slim and when he heard a very sketchy signal rang out while in waist deep water. Thinking it was a bottle cap and indicating near the surface Mike decided to dig it and get it out of the way.   What popped out was a ring that had him shaking his head and more than a bit curious. When he got home he confirmed what he thought he had seen. The ring was marked…18kt 925 Iron. This would explain the strange signal he was getting on his CZ-21. Also inside the ring was the name Katrina and what looked to be the makers mark, Elin. Doing a Google search turns up a jewelry maker in Sweden. Mike sends an email with a picture of the ring to the jeweler and explains the circumstances and hopes she can identify the owner so that it can be returned. She had originally thought that Mike’s email was junk so she disregarded it. The owner of the ring contacted her to see if a replacement could be made. She explained that she had lost it at the beach in Florida. This jogged the jeweler’s memory of Mike’s email and the jeweler replied…”I know” which really confused the owner until she explained the email she had received from Florida. Mike finally after about a week gets an email from the owner with a picture of the ring. However, here is a twist…in the picture that Mike received the name is Caroline, not Katrina. So Mike emails back saying he is sorry that the ring he found must not be hers since the name didn’t match the one he found. She then replied that she was sorry, English is not her first language and the name inside the one she sent was an identical ring that she and her partner had custom made. Needless to say she was extremely excited to get the ring back noting that the gold used to make both rings was from her grandmother’s ring. She explained that they used iron because “its ruff look symbolizes life together isn’t always easy and shiny but can still be very beautiful.” Both she and the jeweler were both amazed that someone would go to that much trouble to find the owner and return the ring. (Those of us who know Mike are not surprised) The jeweler asked for the details of Mike’s find because the news media in Sweden had heard about the recovery and wanted to interview her about this remarkable story. Katrina also asked for a picture of Mike with the ring for her Facebook page.

Needless to say we at SRARC are extremely proud of Mike for this wonderful ring return. The hobby is better off because of people like you!
