Lost Necklace & 3 Rings Found By Dave Milsted in Medford NJ

I received a call from a woman earlier this week, let’s call her Zoey, asking if my detector would find rings & a necklace. Last weekend she hosted an outdoor party and lost 3 silver rings and a necklace. Her concern is that after having too much to drink, she hid them somewhere in the house. I explained my machines work great outside, but with all of the nails, wires, and pipes they can’t be used inside. If she wanted me to search inside it would be a visual search.
She wanted her backyard searched around the bar and firepit. I agreed to meet her on Saturday. She showed me the area that needed to be searched. It took maybe 15 minutes to search the yard with no luck.
I asked if there was anywhere else she wanted me to search. There was a small outbuilding that housed all of the wood for the firepit. I used my handheld detector for that search. No luck. She asked if I could search a few areas in the house. So inside we went.
We searched on the first floor with no luck. So we moved to the second floor. The walls had a lot of decorations, pictures, and knick-knacks. With my handheld detector, we searched the pillowcases. I asked if she wanted to search her clothes drawers. She searched them with the handheld detector. No luck. There was limited light, so I was using a flashlight. As I was looking at all of the interesting items on the wall, the light from the flashlight caused something to sparkle. It was kind of hidden by the curtain around the window. It was the necklace, hanging from a knick-knack. On the necklace were the 3 rings. SUCCESS!!
It looks like she removed the necklace and put the 3 rings on it, refastened it, and hung it on the wall. She was so happy that we found the jewelry. She said the day of the party she treated herself to the necklace, she said it was expensive.

Stolen Wedding Ring in Rathdrum Idaho, FOUND!!

Life steals away lots of things, memories, happiness, and loved ones. However when an item is stolen from your possession by another human it leaves a sting that never fully goes away. Likewise when the item is stolen by a family member you are left with a hurting heart and the feeling of a hopeless loss. For Ric and Ronda the latter came true while the snow began to fall in Idaho. The full story of the how the ring went missing was validated by a lie detection test and a trip to the pawn shop. Both tests proved that the ring that was stolen, was pawned, bought back and then thrown into Ric and Ronda’s front yard. A metal detector was rented and use but the ring still remained lost. Ric was using google to find a better metal detector but found instead The Ring Finders directory. I called Ric as fast as my fingers could dial the number he left in his email. We discussed “the story” behind the stolen ring, then made a plan for me to come over the next day. I arrived to the snowy front yard of Ric and Ronda’s and began to ask my standard questions of what kind of ring was it and what kind of gold was it made of. Ric’s reply was let me go get a picture of it. Ric came back out of the house with the insurance pictures of a stunning yellow and white gold marquise diamond wedding ring. I knew if the ring was there I was going to hear a loud signal under the two inches of snow. I could see the path where the person with a metal detector was looking but knew my 18 years of detecting was going to find it even if a coil had already passed over the ring. So back and forth I weaved talking and keeping the mood light. I had just asked a question to Ric while kicking away the snow that was over a 53 vdi signal, I remember that I had said “her ring” in the question. However I can’t recall the question because when I looked back down at the snow I saw the top half of a large gold ring. I said “hey Ric Her Ring” and I kept repeating her ring until he came over to look. Meanwhile Ronda was quickly exiting the front screen door exclaiming did he find it? With the pure excitement of the whole ordeal Ric’s wide eyes could not see the ring laying in the grass and snow. My hand met his and pointed out the location of his Wife’s wedding ring. Tears, screams of joy, clutched hands shaking with relief, my big smile , all erupted and all happened in less time then it took for the ring to fly out of a car window and land at the edge of Ric and Ronda’s snowy front yard. The story of life has many twists and turns, some leading to a hurting heart but leading to the joy only a Ring Finders Recovery can bring. Ric told me he had set the stones in Ronda’s ring 20 some years ago. I could see the happy moment when he gave her that ring for the first time, return to his smiling face. Blessed are those to hold on till the end knowing that at the end true peace will be delivered.

Lost Rose Gold Ring with Diamonds Found in Garden City Michigan

Tina, her fiance’ and friends were enjoying some time together in the yard. As the sun began to set they decided to continue around a nice warm bonfire. Scurrying around lighting logs, setting chairs, and gathering food and beverages to enjoy around the fire, the logs finally began to glow. Settling into the warmth, sounds of a strumming guitar and singing voices filled the night air. When the morning came around she noticed her engagement ring was missing. Thoughts quickly turned to where it may be…..the log pile or the fire pit? A quick check there and in the cool ashes revealed nothing. Raking thru the leaves revealed nothing and buying a toy type metal detector only led to more worry and frustration. On site her and I went over the details where she was in the yard. As I was setting up the manual ground balance on my MXT metal detector I noticed there was so much junk metal items I switched to one of the turn on and go modes available on the MXT and quickly started to grid search. Seeing a picture of the ring I knew the approximate range on the meter where the ring should be. As my detector coil flew over the colorful leaves, ignoring the junk signals, a nice signal came thru at 24/26 and 0 depth. Pushing the leaves aside this beautiful custom design rose gold ring with a spectacular diamonds setting revealed itself quite a few feet from where she was sitting and where her fiance’ had raked the leaves! I waved her over and pointing down, her eyes got as wide as her smile as she picked the ring from the leaves. Totally elated and speechless she finally caught her breath and said I’m so thrilled and thankful you found it! I’m so glad we contacted you! I’m gonna have a nice surprise for him when he get’s home!

Lost Keys Parking Lot In The Oliver Neighborhood Edmonton Alberta

Today I received an e-mail from Rachael asking if I would be able to find her keys.  I agreed to meet up with her at her apartment parking lot where she thought they could be.  After asking a few questions I began to search around her car and then the immediate area from the back entrance of the building.  I found them buried in about two inches of snow.   Rachael was very happy to have her keys back as we all know how expensive it is to replace security chip keys.

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Koko Head District Park…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call Sunday evening from Keith who lives in Hawaii Kai on Oahu. While playing baseball at Koko Head District Park Keith determined that during one of the times he removed his baseball glove his gold wedding band must have come off. We agreed to meet the next afternoon at the ball park so Keith could show me the general area he was playing in right field. Keith was waiting when I arrived and we went up to the ball field in the background of the photo. I gridded out the most probable area and started my search. The Equinox was popping on many targets coins, pull tabs and bottle caps. I had my pinpointer so decided since the ring was probably on top of the soil in the grass I would ignore all targets below two inches on the Equinox. After hunting the grid and still no ring I asked Keith which direction was most probable to expand the grid and he said towards the infield. Low and behold the first target in the new grid was a surface screaming 11-12 on the Equinox. I bent down to run the pinpointer through the grass and there was Keith’s gold wedding band. Hidden under the grass I believe someone must have stepped on it during the previous day’s search. I enjoy these challenging hunts with many targets but Keith said he thought we would never find it after about 30 minutes and seeing me check so many targets. Keep the Faith and we shall succeed! Michelle and Ashley had been surfing at Sunset Beach, CA. Like many surfers Ashley buried her keys under the edge of her towel. When they were ready to leave, they couldn’t find the keys. 

I met them on the beach shortly after they called. They had left the area of the beach where they had been laying out, but Ashley was confident that the wet spot on the beach was where her surfboard had been. 

I grid searched the 40’x 40ft area twice and expanded my search outside that area with no success. They were confused, thinking maybe someone had seen them bury the keys. Then they asked me to stop searching. They called a relative to bring a spare set of keys and walked back to their car.

I stayed on the beach determined to finish a large area that could hide a set of car keys. Fifteen minutes after Ashley and Michelle had left the beach, I found the keys more than 100’ from the location they gave me. They still don’t know how the keys ended up that far away but the important thing is that the two surfer ladies were able to get into their car to drive home and the keys were also important. Just the trouble of replacing these keys can be aggravating. I have learned not to let the possibility that someone possibly took the keys keep me from eliminating all possible hiding spots.

Julie called and explained that she had been golfing with a lot of friends just a few weeks prior when she lost three precious wedding rings. She ask me if I would be willing to assist them as they were lost at Desert Canyon Golf Resort near Chelan, WA three hours over the mountain pass. She went further to explain that they no longer live in Washington state and had already planned a return visit to the Seattle area and had set aside one day to make the three hour drive to the golf course to look. She said they were planning on getting some metal detectors and seeing what they could do when a friend suggested they go online and find a metal detecting recovery specialist. A quick search online directed them to TheRingFinders where she found my offering of service for the Pacific North West Washington area.  

She went on to explain that she had played a full eighteen holes of golf on that Saturday and Sunday. I asked for more details and learned that just prior to playing on Saturday she took both rings off. She placed them in one of the pockets of her golf pullover windbreaker and zipped it up thinking that would keep them secure. Well unfortunately after nineteen holes of golf when she went to retrieve her precious wedding rings they were gone. The pocket was still zipped up and her pullover was with her the whole time. She had lost a very precious wedding set consisting of her yellow gold diamond wedding band soldered to her yellow gold wedding band that had been custom made in a matching design of her husbands wedding ring. A second white gold wedding band with seven channel set diamonds that was given to her on her 20th wedding anniversary was also lost. 

She told me she had found a small hole in the seam of the pocket that allowed both rings to slip to the inside lining of the jacket. At this point I began asking myself where do we even start searching if these rings just fell out of her clothing anywhere along the golf course. She went on to explain that the inside lining was not stitched at the top edge so it was like a bigger internal pocket. Her idea was that the rings most likely spilled out when she was taking the pullover on and off several times while playing nineteen holes of golf. She remembered only taking the pullover off near her golf cart. However exact details of where these actions took place were not so clear as she had played that course two days consecutively and detailed memories started to blur together.

She confirmed she had already made arrangements with the Desert Canyon Golf Resort management and they welcomed her to come back to search the course for her lost rings. She explained that her and her husband, Keith, already had travel plans set to arrive in Seattle on a Wednesday night and were planning to drive out to the golf course that next Thursday morning irregardless of anything else. 

It didn’t take long for me to be fully on board to support this mission. I explained to her that Thursday was wide open in my schedule and not to worry about getting additional metal detectors. I explained to her this would be a very challenging search due to the large distance traveled over nineteen holes of golf and not having witnessed the area where the rings were lost. I told her not to worry as I would bring some additional metal detectors for her and Keith to use. Knowing what a large search area we had the more machines the better especially as this site was at distance over the mountain pass it would be more challenging for a revisit so I knew we had to take every advantage of this opportunity. 

As planned each of us made the three hour drive over the mountain pass for an early tee time only today we would be swinging metal detectors not clubs. The Desert Canyon staff and local community was amazing. Everyone had been actively searching for the lost wedding rings for the past nineteen days yet to no avail.  Our first order of business was heading directly into the pro shop to speak with Rob the manager. It was at this point I learned that one of Julie’s friends had taken several photos of the group throughout that day of golf. Julie had Rob review the photos as she took notes as he did his best to identify what holes were associated with each photo. When he finished reviewing the photos he slid two golf cart keys across the counter and wished us the best. 

The weather was typical for Eastern Washington at this time of the year. It was cold and windy but the Lord blessed us by holding back the rain and frost so there was no delays in getting started with the search. I allowed Julie and Keith to lead the way as she best knew key areas of the course where she may have taken the pullover off or put it back on. Still there was not definite spots leaving a lot of unknown possibilities over such an expansive search area involving a lot of active movements while playing golf! Never the less we pressed on starting our search on the front nine holes. After completing the front nine and still no rings we took a lunch break to warm up and refuel. Our search continued on with the back nine as the wind started to pickup and the temperature started to drop. As with many long searches even experienced recovery specialist like myself need to push back the doubt and remain in the game to the very end. Around hole five I began to wonder where these rings were hiding knowing that only a few more holes remained and our search would soon be over.

After four hours of actively searching we reached the 6th hole and with in just a few minutes I had a strong target with excellent numbers on my metal detector. As I started to work the ground with my pin-pointer Keith strutted to get excited as this was the only hole from the set of photos that showed her wearing the pullover at the tee box and no jacket on the green. This meant that Julie absolutely took her pullover off somewhere on this hole. As I worked the ground I pulled her yellow gold wedding set from the thick luscious grass and asked how would you like to have this back. At this point all three of us erupt with excitement and disbelief. Julie is overcome with emotion and so very happy to have her wedding rings back. At this point we all took a few steps back as I continued to work the area for her white gold 20th anniversary ring. Within a minute I pulled her second ring from the thick grass to everyones surprise.

Of all the holes she lost her rings on Desert Canyon’s Signature Hole 6. All who visit this hole are blessed with a breath taking view of thick green golf course grass contrasted with the dried out stubble of the rolling hills sides with the Columbia River below and silver lined cloudy skies above. This beautiful creation in nature is an absolute testimony of how God’s hand prepared a path for us free of obstacles allowing us to experience a successful recovery. These rings representing twenty-five years of marriage, love and memories were recovered and will continue with Julie as a reminder that good things still happen and not to loose faith and hope ever.

I got a call from Roman about a lost ring. He and his wife had been at the beach the night before, and when they were ready to leave his wife Evelin realized her engagement ring was missing. It was dark, and very hard to see as they searched for it. They were unsuccessful in their search, and called me the next day. From what they told me, it seemed as though the county beach cleaning machines had not come through this day, so I felt there was a good chance of a recovery. They told me they would not be able to meet me, but provided a Google Earth shot showing where the loss occurred, and I let them know I was going immediately.

When I got to the area, I lined myself up with the landmarks, and began my search, only to look up as I was being hailed by a young couple waking towards me, “Are you Steve?” I let them know that I was, and Roman and Evelin let me know they were able to work it out for them to come to let me know where to look. It was a good thing, as I was off by about 4o feet. I began my search where Evelin thought she might have lost the ring by shaking sand off their gear. She also showed me another possible area to search, which I would get to as soon as I finished where I was looking already. At that point they left, I believe to go and get some lunch. I did not find her ring in the first area, and began to work my way over to the other area. It was when I reached the spot she was standing when she introduced the second spot I received a nice gold signal, dug, and had a beautiful ring in my scoop. I called to let them know I found the ring, they were so surprised. They had been married for a year and a half, and this ring meant a lot to them. A very blessed experience indeed!

Car Key Lost in the Sand at Hermosa Beach…Found and Happily Returned.

Brittany had been surfing, and had left her car key in her sandals on her towel when she went into the water. When She left, she picked everything up, and then went on what seemed like a bit of a trek to finally get back to her car. When she arrived she realized the key was gone. The stretch of sand from the bike path to the is quite expansive, and as Brittany made the walk back to do the search, it seemed like an experiment in futility. I let her know I would come immediately.

When I got to the beach Brittany found me, and explained what had happened. I surmised that the most likely place to begin was where she had been originally, and then search from there. I started my search going over all of the area that she had gridded with her feet first with no luck. When she said that it might be the whole expanse we might have to search, I asked that she would walk an exact a path as she did when she left. She then took me on a unique trek. I expected a bee line, but she had gone sideways, then doubled back, then off to the bike path. We went slow, while I dug every signal, finding much trash metal, but no key. We got to the bike path, and I asked if she thought we covered the path as close as possible, and she did. She then decided to leave. I told her that I was going to retrace our steps off to each side in order to make sure we did not miss anything, and would call her if I found the key. I went all the way back with nothing, and then began my way back to the bike path. Where she doubled back, about 5 feet from our first walk I got a very strong signal, dug, and had her key. You have to make sure all possibilities are explored, and this time it paid off. I called her and asked her to come and get her key; she was so surprised and happy to get it back. What fun!

Screws and Nails found in Childs Sand Box in Los Angeles…Safely Removed

I got a call for help from a family in Los Angeles about their child’s sand box. After moving into the house, they removed an above ground swimming pool which had a sand base that they thought would be great for their toddler child to play in. The problem occurred when the father was going through the sand and found a  pointy screw, and became worried about his child playing there, so he asked me to come and search the sand to see if there might be any more screws, or…

He showed me the sand box, and I began an immediate search. It took me about 45 minutes to thoroughly search the area, making sure I dug every signal, and I found quite a few screws, nails, and chunks of metal that the parents were happy to have removed from the area for the safety of their child. Another great, and safe day!
