New Wedding Ring Lost In Williamstown, NJ – Found By Dave Milsted

Amanda called me today in a panic. Her husband was in the backyard playing basketball and lost his wedding ring. They searched for a while with no luck. I told her if it is there I will find it. The kicker is they were married 5 days ago. The ring is a little too big and they have discussed getting it sized. The chilly air today didn’t help the cause.

I drove down to Williamstown tonight after work. It is dark and raining. Amanda showed me the area that the basketball court is located. It is a grassy area covered in leaves. The area is about 50 feet by 50 feet. There are no lights, so it was pitch black.

I decided to start close to the hoop. It could have been anywhere due to dribbling and shooting motions. 3 signals in and less than 5 minutes I found the ring! It was under some leaves.

Amanda was standing in the rain watching me. I walked over to her and I guess she thought I was going to ask some more questions. When I showed her the ring she was so surprised that I found it and couldn’t believe that I found it so fast. I got a hug! I’m glad my wife doesn’t get jealous, because I get a lot of hugs doing this service!

It was nice to have another quick find. After seeing the size of the area and it being so dark, I thought for sure that I would be there a very long time.

I love my hobby!! Another happy client!

*** Steve called me from his parents home in Laguna Niguel, CA. He had lost his platinum wedding ring in deep bushes while trying to retrieve his son’s ball. It was dark and I told him I could be there soon assuming it might be a problem for him to miss work the next day.

He said that he lived close and felt it would be best to meet the next morning. After meeting him at the location I could see it was going to be a challenge as the bushes were waist high and very close together. To top it off, the hillside was a very steep angle.

Before setting up my detector Steve and I waded into the bushes and  he pointed out where he had retrieved the ball. As we were walking out to get my detector we spotted the ring deep in an opening as we were looking for a place to step through the thick foliage.

Another example of why not to get overwhelmed when you see a difficult search situation. To be truthful, I thought this was going to be a hand and knee search with my pinpointer through dusty thick foliage with bugs, spiders and other critters. 

They had spent several hours searching the day of the loss figuring that it was impossible to find with out a metal detector. Steve and his parents were amazed and happy that the ring was recovered so quickly. It was a pleasure to meet them and help find the ring.

*** Nicole and Sean had spent the day at Strand Beach, Dana Point, CA. With a large group of friends. Midway through the day Sean notice his gold wedding band was missing. They believed it may have come off his finger while playing volleyball, but it may have slipped off while body surfing.

While everyone was searching through the dry sand a bystander told Nicole about TheRingFinders metal detecting service. Nicole called me explaining the situation. I asked if someone could be there to show me the location. I could definitely eliminate the volleyball playing area. If it wasn’t there it would require a second trip at the next low tide to check the place where Sean was bodysurfing .

It’s less than 15 miles drive but the walkway to the beach is a good hike. We met an hour later as some of the group were leaving. Sean showed me the volleyball playing location and I told him it might take more than an hour to scan the thoroughly. In the past I’ve spent as much as three hours searching lost rings on volleyball courts.

I randomly picked one side of the court to start. In less than 10 feet in a straight line I got the magic signal that turned out to be Sean’s ring. Totally an unconscious streak of good luck. The only clue I had to work with was he knew he had it when he got to the beach and three hours later the ring was not on his finger. 

The best part was seeing the smiles on everybody’s faces. Both Nicol and Sean were genuinely grateful, thanking me several times as we all walked off the beach together. It never gets old seeing people get sentimental keepsakes found that they had believed was impossible to find.

Wedding band recovered in Howell NJ by Dennis Burlingame

Got a call today from Jose who was devastated that while putting up Christmas decorations the day before noticed that him wedding band of 20 years was missing. He just celebrated his 20th anniversary November 14th and couldn’t believe it was gone. Even tho it was raining today it was either going today in the rain or waiting till I got off work the next day but only having about a half hour of sunlight, I loaded up my rain gear and detector and took the ride out to see if I could help. A little rain never hurt anyone. He said it was either in the front yard or along the house where he put lights in the bushes there. I started at the sidewalk and worked my way to the house, about 30 minutes or so I found his ring in the grass about 3 feet from the bushes. Walking toward him holding up his ring, he ran towards me in joy knowing I found his ring and he was putting it back where it belonged, his ring finger. It’s always a great feeling giving back something so dear.

Christmas Lights & Cold Air = Lost Wedding Ring in Westmont NJ, Found By Dave Milsted

Thomas sent me an email today asking if I could look for his lost wedding ring. He lost it this past Saturday while putting Christmas lights up. I told him I could be there after work today. Westmont is only 5 minutes from my house.

We met, and he showed me 2 areas that his tungsten ring might be. He also said that this is the second time he lost this ring, a replacement since he lost the original. His daughter found it in a river where they were tubing. The original is still missing. He searched the area with no luck. He was fearful that it was hung up in one of the branches in the bushes.

I searched the 2 areas with my metal detector, both areas near concrete, with rebar in it. So my detector was constantly beeping. I decided to use my hand-held pinpointer detector and searched the areas with that. No joy! Pennies, bottle caps and pieces of aluminum siding were present. So I expanded my search. About 3 feet away from the second search area I was able to find his ring. He couldn’t believe it.

This was a nice quick search with another happy client. This hobby is awesome!!

Mother Loses Car Key in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .

Casey called me asking for help to find her car keys lost in the sand at a back bay beach in Newport Beach, CA. She was certain that the loss happened while she took her dog for a walk on the beach. 

I asked her where she was located and it was less than a block away from where I live. I was actually 25 miles away on my way to do some detecting on another beach. It took me more than a half hour to meet Casey where the loss occurred. She had her wallet locked in the vehicle and needed to pickup her daughter from school in about 2 hours. 

It was difficult to guarantee that I could find the key in time for her to do her errands because she had walked quite a distance. Casey had help from security personal doing a visual search of the damp wet sand and paved walkways before I arrived with no success. I set up to search the dry sand areas where the single key could be hiding under the sand.

After finishing the scan in the dry sand with the metal detector the key did not show. Next option as to do another quick visual search. We went outside the area where Casey said walked and the key was found just laying on the wet sand and would have soon been covered by the incoming tide. Casey could not remember walking in that area. It’s common that people get confused and can’t remember especially when they have other pressing things to do. We eliminated the dry sand hiding places then did a double take on the places where they could be visually found.

2 diamond and gold wedding Rings lost South Beach ,Miami beach Florida… found..

While I was metal detecting Miami Beach , Fl I was approached by a group of people who asked me to find wedding 2 rings lost in the dry sand. I followed them to a area about 7 x 7 feet . At first I didn’t get any targets . But after searching for quite a while I heard a faint signal and found one ring. after that I still wasn’t hearing any targets. I kept going and I eventually fond the other ring. They were very thankful.

Walt called me back in September after seeing an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer that I was featured in on metal detecting. He asked if I could find a wedding band that was lost in his back yard several years ago. Our schedules didn’t align at the time. I gave Walt a call yesterday, and we were both available today, Saturday, November 23. He lives in Abington Pa.

I arrived about 20 minutes early, and Walt is already outside waiting for me. He showed me the area in the back yard. His wife, Sharon, was sitting on the porch and dropped her ring. They heard it hit the cement and then nothing more. The porch is surrounded by pachysandra.

There were a lot of metal items lost in the pachysandra. Several nails, s-hooks, an old tarnished silver bracelet, and bottle caps. After about 15 minutes I found the long lost white gold wedding band.

The look on Walt’s face was priceless. He had spent many hours combing through the plants looking for this ring. He said that their Wedding Anniversary was Nov 20th and that this Monday is Sharon’s birthday. I asked if he was going to wrap it up for a present. That is when he told me that she had died this past March. He was so happy that I called this week, as it has been a very sentimental week for him.

Walt is retired from the Philadelphia Fire Department. I love returning all lost items, but when I can help out a fellow 1st responder, that has a special place in my heart.

Engagement Ring Lost for 4 months! – Pensacola Beach – FOUND!!!

I am so honored to be able to write up this story as one of the most amazing ring returns I have had with the Ringfinders. I warn you, it’s probably going to be a long one. 😃 2019 has been a great year. Early in the spring I had a call from a couple that had lost both the wife’s engagement ring and her wedding band out in a very large area of sand. My Father-in-Law, Tom Ledew had a freshwater machine but he didn’t have a saltwater machine. He had expressed some interest in the Ringfinders so I decided to ask him to join me and loan him one of my Saltwater machines. You can read the long story on another post but suffice it to say, Tom found one and I found the other and he now has a good Beach machine and is hooked. 😄. So that brings us to our current story… back in July, the day after the Blue Angels flew, I got a call from a very nice young man named Thomas. He had proposed to his beautiful bride, Dani only a few months earlier and she had not had the chance to have the engagement ring properly sized. They were in the water at Quietwater beach along with hundreds of other people and the ring just slipped off her finger sometime in the afternoon. I immediately came out to the beach and got all of the information that I could, right down to pictures from the boat, the tides and even the gps coordinates where the boat they were in was anchored during the air show. It was a huge area as far as water recoveries go but this is one of the nicest couples that I have met and I set out to do my best. I searched everywhere and dug up hundreds of pull tabs and I even found two other rings (one, I was able to find the owner in Tennessee 😃) but I could not find Thomas and Dani’s ring. I was bummed but I knew it was a large area so I asked if I could come out at sunrise the next morning. They said of course and I put in a few hours that morning and then put in a few more after work. All to no avail. I told Thomas that I could not find it and he was down but I told him I truly thought his ring was out there and with his permission I would like to keep looking for it when able and I would also like his permission to have my Father-in- Law help me with the search. Thomas said I could do whatever but felt the ring was lost forever and he said with all the people swimming that day he feared someone had seen it on the bottom and picked it up. I told him not to worry and that maybe one day I would come across it and call them. Fast forward 4 months and here we are in November. They were such a nice couple that I just haven’t been able to let their ring go. Anytime I am out that way, I always search for it a bit. I even came up with some down home engineering that anchors into the sand and lets me do overlapping circles to be absolutely sure I hadn’t missed a spot. Tom had been out to help me several times also and was becoming equally vested in finding this ring. Well within these 4 months, Tom Ledew was accepted into the Ringfinders over in Orange Beach, AL. (Congrats Tom! 🎉) and he had a recovery in the Gulf. I mentioned that Tom has a good beach machine but he remembered that first experience with my Excal which is simply the best machine there is for finding a ring out in the saltwater. Tom asked if he could borrow it and of course I said yes. He found the ring that day in AL so quickly and was so amazed that he had to have one for himself. Then it got really cold 🥶 and our plans to get in the water got put on pause. Through it all I kept going back to thinking about Thomas and Dani’s ring and I just knew I had covered the area where they thought it was. I also kept thinking that maybe Thomas was right and someone had picked it up but I just knew that gold sinks in the sand so quickly that it was almost impossible. I decided that the only possibility was it had to be a bit deeper where maybe the boat had swung around and Dani had to swim out a little to get on the ladder. Swimming + an oversized ring = an unhappy couple. So Tom and I made a plan to go back out and see if my theory was correct. Tom beat me to it and got his coil over it first but I am so glad that he did. This was his first major target recovered with the machine he tried for the first time earlier this year in the spring. It all comes full circle. 😃. The most fun I had was calling Thomas. Dani happened to be sitting right next to him when I started telling them who I was. Thomas had saved my number as “the Ring Guy” so he knew pretty quickly. They were shocked that after 4 months (twice as long as they had been engaged) this random guy would call and tell them that he had the ring that would forever remind them of the day that Thomas proposed. Congrats y’all, I hope this will remind you through the years as it will me to never give up!  😊

Lost Platinum Wedding Ring in Sand at Newport Beach .. Found and Returned by a Ringfinder

*** Viet had been surfing at Newport Beach, CA. Just before going into the water he realized he still had his platinum wedding ring on. It was too far back to his car, so Viet put his wedding ring in a pocket of his backpack.

That evening when he got home Viet discovered his ring missing from the back pack. He and his wife drove more that 30 miles back to Newport Beach searching that night in the dry sand with no luck. He returned at 6am the next morning using a loaner metal detector that the lifeguards gave him. 

After two hours he was totally frustrated and he took a few minutes to google search ideas on how to find a ring with a metal detector. That was how he found my information on TheRingFinders metal detecting directory. I live very close to where the loss occurred, so I was on the beach by 9am. Viet was totally frustrated and tired from the many hours of searching. He did feel that he was searching the wrong areas and suggested I try a spot on the beach where he recognized a piece of ribbon in the sand. 

I started my grid search in that location while Viet went to his car for some water. Before he got 30 yards away from me I got a strong signal in my headphones. After retrieving the target I could see the platinum wedding ring in my scoop. I got his attention before he got to his car. When he saw his ring, couldn’t hold back his emotions, he choked up and took a few deep breaths. The sentimental meaning of his wedding ring and the frustration of so many hours of searching for the ring was overwhelming. Now the relief of having his ring back was real after coming so close to thinking it was lost forever.
