Diamond Engagement FOUND after Snorkeling in Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii!

“Rae of Hope”

We got the call to go to Hilo to find a lost diamond engagement ring on a recent, rainy afternoon. It’s an two hour drive away and the ring was lost at Onekahakaha Beach Park in the public swimming area.

Raelyn met us in the parking lot with her young son and we quickly got the full story. She had tried snorkeling for the first time ever in the large but protected, rock-and-sandy bay. After only a few minutes of putting on her mask and snorkel, she stood up in chest deep water and realized that her precious diamond engagement ring was missing from her finger. It had definitely been on as she’d gotten in the water as, ironically, she’d removed her gold wedding band so as not to lose it!

Finding a lost diamond engagement with Big Island Metal Detecting

A happy moment after finding Raelyn’s lost engagement ring at Onekahakaha Beach Park, Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii.

We retraced her steps into the water along a small sea wall which jutted into the shallow bay with little steps down either side. She showed us how she’d walked into the deeper water, put on her mask and paddled around into deeper water. As the tide was at its lowest, we decided to start at the deepest point she’d been, which was now just over waist deep. As we searched, Raelyn and her son swam and watched us carefully metal detect the sandy bottom. Every once in a while we’d ask her to try and remember exactly where she’d been, or if we were still in the same area she remembered being in.

Several times when retracing her movements she mentioned swimming away from shallow, brown stones. I thought it was an interesting thing to remember and asked her to show me where the brown stones were. Just near the entrance of the swimming area, where she’d first put on her mask, was a small field of algae-covered, cannonball-sized stones. I decided to try my luck and started searching the area using a newly purchased Minelab Excalibur. Sylvie faithfully continued hunting the deeper water with her Garrett SeaHunter. Looking over at Raelyn, she was now sitting on the nearby sand talking to her husband on the phone while her son played in the shallows. A glint of white gold peaked out from under the sand in about knee-deep water as I turned back. I’d found it!

A beautiful, recovered diamond engagement ring from the shallow waters of Onekahakaha Beach Park, Hilo, Hawaii, found by Brent and Sylvie Madison of Big Island Metal Detecting.

I signaled Sylvie and Raelyn then turned on the GoPro to film it coming out of the sand, “live”! Both ladies rushed over and I pulled the ring out out of the sand and handed it to a jubilant Raelyn! She held her hands over her mouth for a moment in disbelief. “I’d just told my husband on the phone I didn’t think we’d find it!”

There IS always a ray of hope when looking for lost rings – and we’re so happy when it shines down on our clients.

The latest ring found in Kailua Kona!

We got the call to find a lost diamond ring – a 2+ carat stone set in heavy gold – at a private residence.
The ring had bounced out the bedroom door at night – and couldn’t be found on the balcony or yard below. Due to the massive rains we’d been having, and the fact that the grass would be mowed the next day, we got the urgent call and luckily could come over the same day.
I looked under the balcony, around the bushes to the side of the balcony, and finally in the yard. About 20 yards away it sat tucked in the thick grass below – the ring must have rolled down the length of the balcony before tumbling off. Another happy ring recovery!

Lost Diamond Ring in Maple Ridge…Found in Back Yard!

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received a call this morning from a young man who said his wife lost her diamond engagement ring in the backyard while playing baseball with their daughter.  He said his wife was very  upset and concerned that the ring was lost for good. After discussing the search and what it entailed I decided to go after work to search for her ring.I met with his wife and she showed me the area where she thought the ring many have been lost. It was a very large back yard and the grass was long enough to hide a ring with no problem, after talking to the young lady I had a pretty good idea where I was going to start my search. She told me that she searched with her husband for over an hour and a half with a rake and just eyeballing the area to see if they could get lucky and find the ring…but no luck… She also told me that she hardly slept the night before knowing that her ring was lost and she may never find it.Its amazing how emotional it is for the person who has lost that sentimental item and the thought that it may never be found.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWell it only took 15 minutes in the pouring rain and dark to find her lost diamond ring… it’s the greatest feeling when your detector sounds off and you look down and part the grass and see that persons cherished item looking back up at you …knowing with excitement that it will make that person’s day when you hold it up and show them!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This is the 700th recorded ring found for The Ring Finders Directory! Lost Engagement Ring Lido Beach

Mike and Alison

Diamond Engagement Ring Found

On March 12, 2013 we received a call from Debbie Ohare requesting a search for a lost ring on Lido Beach in Sarasota.

Debbie, her daughter, Alison Miller, and Alison’s husband were enjoying an afternoon on the beach when Alison realized she was wearing her wedding rings. She decided to be safe she would store them in a beach bag she had carried to the beach. When they returned to their condo a few hours later Alison looked in the bag to retrieve her rings and guess what, only her wedding band was in the bag. They searched high and low in the condo but found nothing. They returned to the beach and hunted in the sand and waited in the area in hopes that someone with a metal detector would appear. No such luck!!! The next day Debbie decided to see if she could find someone on the internet to hunt for the ring. When she discovered our club site, she contacted us and since she was south of the Skyway bridge Mike Miller was asked to meet them at the beach and do a search.

Mike searched for about 45 minutes in the area that they had been sitting without finding the ring and Alison felt it was lost forever and released Mike, but Mike was not ready to give up yet. Debbie and Alison gave up and went back to the Condo. Mike continued hunting and in about 10 minutes found the ring just one foot behind where he had initially started to hunt. Needless to say, when Mike called to tell Debbie and Alison to come back to the beach, they were overjoyed. Mike would like to thank them both again for their very generous donation and the big smiles on their faces when they saw the ring.

Debbie wrote this note to mike after reading this article:

Mike,

Sounds great!!! Thanks again!! I will never forget you!! There are good people left in the world!!

Sincerely, Alison

I got a call from Trish on Monday March 18th. She had been doing some yard work over the weekend in her backyard when she went back in the house her ring was gone.

This is a very special ring to her because it was her late Mothers ring and one of the few possessions she had from her Mom. Needless to say she was upset. I really needed to find this ring for her.

We arranged to meet today Wednesday March 20th, the first day of Spring. She lives about an hour and a half away from me so I took a day of vacation from work. She is leaving on a trip this weekend so it had to be now.

I arrived at 10 this morning, she showed me where she was working when she lost it. I gathered my gear and went to work.  After a few adjustments to the machine I got a very good hit that showed 12-24 on the CTX. I thought I saw a glimmer of something under the leaves and pine needles. I reached down and pulled up this gorgeous ring! What a ring it is! How did it hide? You could trip over it.DSCF1449

She was so happy to have it back and I can see why. Can’t wait till the next one.DSCF1451

Good luck with your searches everyone and happy hunting,

Lost Diamond Ring in Burnaby, BC…Found! New-Video Added

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Yesterday I got a call from a young man who wanted me to come out and take a look for a lost diamond ring that was a gift from his father. This was a special ring as the young mans grandfather had given it to his father many years before. Losing the ring as you could imagine was heart breaking!

He had rented a metal detector the day before I got there and spent many hours searching but had no luck finding the ring. That’s when he went online and found my directory “The Ring Finders” We discussed the search over the phone and I was thinking that I had a 50-50 chance of finding the ring as he didn’t know if it came off where he thought it did.

When I arrived at his place and he showed me the area where he thought it could be, my feeling was if it was there I’d find it, if not, I’d give him closure. 15 minutes into the search and no ring where he thought it might be, I decided to expand my search in the opposite direction and that was a good thing as I found his beautiful diamond ring!

The young man was so grateful and happy and I was too, it always feels good to find what you’re looking for and help continue that story that the ring came with…

I love my job!
