Shelly contacted me after desperately searching for the rings she lost at the beach while out with her family. They were still at the spot, so I let them know I would leave immediately to come and help them.

When I got there Shelly met me, and explained what had happened. She showed me where she had been when the rings were lost, so I had a good reference as to where to begin. I got my detector ready, and we moved anything metal away from the search area like beach chairs, and aluminum cans. The search was short, mainly because they had remained in the area, and knew where to look. I found one ring first, and gave it to Shelly, and then began the search for the other. It was buried very close, and before long Shelly was reunited with the rings that meant so much to her. It is always a pleasure to help those in need, and to bring smiles to the people I am able to help.

Grandpa’s ring

Volleyball is a lot more fun if you don’t lose your grandfather‘s ring. After carefully securing his grandfather’s ring, which was a gift to him he participated in a volleyball game, but afterwards was unable to locate the ring after meeting with family and searching volleyball area I was able to reunite them with this beautiful ring. There were big smiles all around, and I was happy to be part of this successful Ring search

Yard waste treasure

It was a cold snowy day in February 2022 when I was asked to search for a Lost Ring following some landscaping and pruning. The 2 Hour Dr. was snowy and it was cold outside when I arrived, but the snow had stopped. After meeting this nice couple and hearing their story, I first search briefly where he had been doing some pruning and piling the trimmings. Next, I asked to see where he had placed all of the prunings which happened to be in a large rubbish can in a shed. I slowly pulled out the material and scanned it first visually and was able to find the ring amongst the trimmings , needless to say all were happy and a very nice reward was received for the hunt. I was very pleased to be able to help reunite this Ring and its story with the owners.

Multiple Pieces of Stolen Jewelry…Recovered!!!

The story behind this recovery in some ways is very similar to that which I perform on a somewhat routine basis.  However, In some ways this was much different and took much more patience and thought.

At a little past 11am on the 10th of May, I was out metal detecting with my soon to be 5 year old son.  We had just pulled out our machines a Vanquish 540 (my sons) and my equinox to start a little park hunt.  He had dug his first target, a rusty nail.  I was just about to put my headphones on when I received a text message and then, a voice message.  It was a call for help stating that the previous Saturday there had been a home invasion where the thief took jewelry and ran, dropping the jewelry as the alarm went off.  They had recovered some of the jewelry from their yard but requested that I come help to locate any and all of the fallen jewelry I could.  And with that, we packed up our gear and headed 30 minutes south to assist.

In was now midday and getting warm when we arrived at the residence, a large and beautiful home on a hillside.  The owners met with us and thanked us for such a quick response.  They showed us the rear full height window that had been smashed and where some of the stolen jewelry had been recovered leading to the fence in the back of the large backyard.  The task was to search the opposing side of the fence which was a large parcel of open space on a hillside.  I was not sure if it had been a blessing or a curse, but only a day or two prior the city had mowed a 50 foot swath of defensible space  right up to the fence line.  The search was now on!

It did not take long to get my first hit, a silver cuff-link, and my next, a gold cuff-link.  And then, a very colorful sandal pendant with multiple gemstones. Most of the pieces were being recovered at the corner of the property line which was likely to be the location the thief jumped the fence.  I called this my “anchor point”.  7 pieces of jewelry were recovered from this area.  I searched the area until no other pieces or targets (there was a lot of trash there too) could be found.  I then established a grid and worked outward from my anchor.  Prior to the search the homeowner  had mentioned a gold bangle bracelet encrusted with gemstones that had been visible prior to the weed abatement operation.  As I spread out and expanded my grid, that was the next piece I recovered buried in the recently mowed weeds.  It was slightly damaged and quite a bit away from the spot it had been previously seen.  My guess was it had fallen prey to the mower, but I used a landscaping flag to mark the location it had been found and retrieved the beautiful piece.

All of this happened within the first 30 minutes of our busy search, and then… nothing!!!  The next 30 minutes of grid search only revealed trash and not much of that either.  And then, bang!!! A beautiful yellow gold and diamond encrusted earring.  A sight for sore eyes and our first new lead in the direction that the thief may have went.  Again, the piece was marked with a flag and recovered.

For the next hour, I worked the grid, expanded the grid, worked the grid, expanded the grid, but no new pieces could be located and the trail had gone cold.  It was now two hours of searching in the fully exposed sun with no new direction and seemingly acres of open space covered in tall dry grass.  The operation was shut down.

In all, we managed to recover and flag 9 pieces of jewelry, some of which were sure to be very valuable.  The beautiful bangle bracelet turned out to be very sentimental, a wedding gift from the brides mother-in-law on her wedding day and was the highlight of our operation.  Our client seemed to be very thankful for our efforts and we had indeed MADE THE RECOVERY!!!

43 Year Old Wedding Band lost Strathcona Neighborhood: Edmonton Alberta.

Annie called me this morning requesting my service to locate her husband’s wedding ring of 43 years. She told me that she was out in the garden with her husband cleaning up and that he gave Annie his ring for safe keeping while he was gardening.

At the end of the day Annie went to give the ring back to him and unfortunately the ring was missing. They searched her flower beds and the lawn for a few hours with no luck at all.

They checked on line and found The Ring Finder directory and called me the rest is history.

Lost Engagement Ring in The South Hill ….FOUND!!!!

“Maya,Maya,Maya,” Maya scolded herself as she looked down at her engagement ring  that was missing off of her ring finger. See, Maya had made a very well thought out decision. She had removed her engagement ring off of her finger right before she began gardening.  The ring was placed in the top pocket of her shirt. Then Maya began the task of filling up a raised garden bed with rich black potting soil. The task was tedious but after the work was completed Maya was pleased with herself. This feeling however, withdrew itself and morphed into dread. The pocket holding the ring, was empty. Searching that day and at night and then the next morning, did not uncover her ring. Maya asked Reddit for some advice and found The Ring Finders. So that morning she sent me a text. I called and discussed the details with Maya and made plans to come by after work. Arriving at Maya’s house, I could see her upset face coming down the stairs. We made our way to her backyard and I set my detector up. Hearing a bunch of signals under the ground, I looked around and her yard seemed to grow larger. Upon hearing that the ring was in the top pocket of her shirt, I knew all the signals were not her ring. Maya showed me a picture of the ring as I headed to the garden bed. The little puck coil on my Equinox 800 made a nice digging tool as I plunged it into the fresh soil. I made a few dozen stabs at the dirt. With a void of signals to be heard I was very optimistic when the detector sounded off and showed a 5-6 on the screen. “Let’s see if this is it” I said and turned on my pinpointer. The signal was a few inches down and I grabbed it quite easily. Sifting the dirt through my hand the ring slipped through my grasp. Using the pinpointer again to confirm I hadn’t made the ring disappear, the rim peaked out. I had found it finally. Maya was fully relieved and overwhelmed with the whole ordeal. She gave me a nice smile as I took my photos. The best intentions lead to some unforseen outcomes sometimes. But the best advice, is still, to leave your rings in a safe place where you can find them easily and not take a chance and take them along with you.

Twenty fifth Anniversary Gold Diamond Ring Recovered for owner’s son in Moapa, NV.

Received a call to come to a ranch in Moapa, NV. to look for a special ring. It was given to his mother,by her husband, for their 25th Anniversary. While she was visiting her son, she was helping to vaccinate a sick billygoat. She was thrown by the animal. They had searched the house and the area where she had been helping, but no luck. He had considered renting a detector, but the rental company suggested contacting a Ringfinder. Knowing the importance of finding the ring, I immediately lay out a gridline of string, so I would cover every square inch. (Training from my Archaeology Class). It took me about 30 minutes, and it was about 15 feet away from where she had been thrown. (It’s NEVER where you expect it to be!!) They had searched the area where she had been thrown. There is nothing better than a Successful Recovery.

Riding the lawn mower last week, I ran into a tree branch and instinctively felt for my diamond earring, only to find it was missing and only the back remained on my ear.  I stopped instantly and my family helped me search multiple times.  Of course, it wasn’t just any earring – but the ones my husband gave me nearly 16 years ago when we were expecting our first child.

We tried friends’ metal detectors and everything else we could think of for days.  Thankfully, I stumbled on ringfinder.com (http://ringfinder.com/) and made a phone call.  I was quickly connected with Rob Ellis who asked lots of questions to be sure he understood the incident and to assess his ability to help.  Once he felt comfortable that this was within his ability to find, we arranged a time.  He made the coordination easy!  This morning, he came down promptly and reviewed the site to again assure his tools were appropriate for the job.  He searched diligently and thoroughly, combing the area from multiple angles and with various tools.  As time ticked by, he provided reassurance and re-reviewed the incident with me to ensure we weren’t missing anything.  Finally, after I was ready to give up, he FOUND MY EARRING buried in the dirt under the grass.  We both were so excited that we had tears of joy running down our faces.  I am in disbelief and eternally grateful!

From Rob: Lori, thank you for those kind words! As any detectorist can tell you, small earrings are very difficult to find. The small amount of gold and the shape requires the right equipment and experience. I started with a powerful discriminating detector which identified the matching earring when it touched the coil. I carefully searched the ground around the bush, rubbing the small coil in the grass. Eventually I switched to my high frequency Fisher Gold Bug 2 detector. Unfortunately, using the Gold Bug 2 required me to check every piece of tiny metal in a 10×10 foot area. Due to previous searching, the earring was squished about 1/2 inch into the moist earth. It took a long time on a 90-degree day, but I was delighted to return this elusive earring to Lori.

I called him right back to go over some of the details about how he lost his ring. Kerry explained he was on the beach with his family, playing with the dogs, and when he looked at his hand he noticed his wedding ring missing. He was very detail oriented, recalling every move leading up to the beach episode. After going over every detail of the day, he distinctly remembered having it on at dinner, and was almost positive it came off while playing with the dogs on the beach. Well, then he mentioned that he had searched the entire area with a metal detector and had no luck. They had also walked back and fourth the entire distance many times. If you know this beach it’s quite a vast area, kinda like walking to another zip code or two. I hope that brought things into perspective a bit. It was getting dark so they threw in the towel for the day, and returned the next morning with rakes to rake the entire area with hopes the ring would pop up. With no luck, it was time for them to pack up and head back home. I asked him to mark the exact location on his cell phone, with the GPS feature on Google Maps, and send it to me with a picture of his ring, and I would head right there after work. I parked right by the boardwalk, grabbed my gear and headed out to the beach. I opened the location he sent and somehow it was right where I was standing on the beach just beyond the boardwalk. I figured I would follow the dog tracks, but with the wind blowing about 30 knots they were getting covered by the drifting sand. Kerry had mentioned that he was straight out, and roughly 50′ from the high tide line, which was a good thing. Once I got close to the water I was able to see the area they had been raking earlier that morning, without that mark I highly doubt I would have been able to find the spot. Another huge thing in their favor was that the  area was flat wet sand from from the prior high tide, and even though it had been raked quite a bit, didn’t blow flat, with the screaming south east wind. I turned on my machine, made one path around the perimeter, and on my return path Bingo!!! My machine gave off the sweet sound of success. A nice solid low tone, which I knew immediately was Kerry’s ring. Once back at my truck, I called his relatives phone hoping they were in town, but they were not. Then I called Kerry with the good news, and arranged to meet him at a later date to return his ring. another great recovery in the books.

Lost – Men’s Gold Cartier wedding band – Daytona Beach, FL – FOUND!!!

Mother’s Day was a perfect day and my wife, Myrna, and I topped it off with a bike ride to our community pool.  When we returned, I was putting away the bikes when I got the call from Yanaia.  She said that they were at the beach and lost a ring.  I could sense the distress in the tone of her voice.  I hopped into the car and headed her way.

When I arrived, the beach was packed, and Yan was waving me down.  I found out that her husband, Eddy, was the one who lost the ring…a heavy gold Cartier wedding band.  I thought to myself, “this should be easy!”

Eddy was standing in the middle of a tidal pool that was roughly 20ft in diameter.  He was holding a metal stick to mark where he thought he lost the ring, and his expression was very worried.

I fired up the Manticore and began the search.  I swepted over the middle spot of the tidal pool where it was obvious, they had been digging.  Nothing.  I expanded the search in a spiral outward until I had covered the entire tidal pool.  Nothing but a penny, a trash item, and a very small screw.

I began to grid off around the water and toward the beach, going into the surf somewhat.  I stopped and prayed.  This search should not be this difficult!  As I expanded toward the driving lanes, I got a great hit and suspected success.  I heard the tell-tale jangle in the scoop and saw gold!

As I handed the ring to Eddy, his expression changed in an instant from desperation to exuberance.  I was the recipient of hugs from Yanaia and Ariana.  Cheers from Jose, Joshua, and people all around!  The item that was lost was found.
