Yarmouth, Massachusette Lost, Found and Returned Wedding Band

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

This request for help was received just 2 minutes after the request to help in retrieving a cell phone from a marina. With the phone found and returned I was on my way home when Jeff got back in touch and told me of the wedding band that slipped from his finger while frolicking in the surf with this 5 year old son. A small area in shallow water, only one problem I would not be at the beach until 9PM. Good news was the tide was going out and would be low in about 3 hours. Good enough to start the search as the sea was very calm.

An hour went by with many pull tabs, bottle caps and bits of aluminum foil retrieved but no ring or even a coin. Another half hour and Jeff had to return home and get ready to leave for home in the morning. I said fine, I will go a bit deeper and work my search pattern back to the shore before going home. I will call when I get out of the water.

I went out to chest deep water almost to the end of the jetty, beyond where Jeff said he had gone and started searching again. On the third pass closer to the beach another signal rang in my ears and moments later the ring was in my scoop. I rushed back to the car to call Jeff. As my phone did not have Jeff’s phone number stored in it I had to call my wife. She called and left a voicemail with the information on Jeff phone after listening to the “Unavailable” message. Within minutes of the time my wife called me, Jeff was in sight and heading to my car. All I could see was his huge smile and a twinge of disbelief showing in he eyes. When Jeff saw the ring, he thanked me many times and wanted to know what he could do for me. Just a Thank You note is all I asked for. The time really passed quickly and it was now 11PM, time to head home and to bed as I had an early morning meeting to look for another lost ring.

Osterville, Massachusetts: I-phone lost in water too deep for me.

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

A call from Nabil, Karim’s father (see June 2018 return), for help in retrieving a phone that “went swimming” after a great day of fishing. How could I refuse a walk in water 4 feet deep and a beautiful sunset with the delightful fragrance of flowers in the air? I could not. In 40 minutes I was dawning my wet suit as the tide was coming in and I knew the water was getting too deep for waders. Ready, Set, Go… Down to the dock, onto the boat, door open, ladder down and in I went. OH NO, I could not touch bottom, I lowered my scoop and still could not feel the bottom. What to do now? We would have to wait for a low tide. Or find another solution.

Due to Nabil and my commitments along with the time of low tides it would be 5 days before we could get back together. That just did not seem a good idea so I call another RingFinder, Luke. Luke is a scuba diver and would be my best “tool” for this situation. I called…Luke are you on the road? Yes, RT6. Do you have your scuba gear with you? Yes, what’s up? How about helping retrieve a lost phone that had fallen off the side of a boat that is tied to the pier, in maybe 10 feet of water. Can you come?

Twenty minutes later Luke was suiting up. We walked down to the water one quick splash and 2 minutes later Nabil had his friend’s phone back aboard the boat. What luck it was in a waterproof case. All files should be OK after a day or so in a bowl of uncooked rice. The rice will pull any dampness that might be present, especially from the microphone and speaker areas.

This is the way our small group of Ring Finders and friends love to help each other in mitigating a sad situation.
Thanks Luke!

Ring Found at Gravel Lake, MI

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

Received an email from Karen stating that her son’s girlfriend was standing on the dock and after a lovers’ spat she threw gifts from him into the lake — a small gold ring, a thin gold necklace and a pendant.  Her friend was taking a video at the time and recorded the whole thing.  Gregg Larabel, my fellow ringfinder and I jumped in the car and headed out for the search.  We met Karen at the lake and watched the video on her phone, but with the small screen and the distance from the camera we could not see any items flying thru the air.  After about an hour searching I did find the ring, but not the other two items.  As we left we asked Karen to email us that video so we could watch it on bigger screens.  When we did, we saw a small splash in the water and it appeared to be out further than we had searched.  We also got a better idea of the direction of that splash by pinpointing landmarks on the far shore.  Later this week we are going back with the new info to try to find the other two items.  The good news is the couple made up, and Karen would like to surprise them with all three items.   This is a picture of Karen.

Wedding Band recovered in Long Branch NJ by Dennis Burlingame

Got a call from Eddie, while enjoying the day with his wife on the beach, he went to go into the water when at the edge he got knocked down by a wave resulting in loosing his ring. Already on their way home he called asking for help. After getting some info I drove down and searched the area but with no luck. Getting home I asked for some more info that might help and he remembered sitting in front of some cabanas. Turns out I hunted the wrong lifeguard stand the night before and moved my search to the next one down. After 5 passes back and forth in the area I found his ring. I texted him a picture and he couldn’t believe it. Made arrangements to meet him the following week to return it back to him. When we met up I gave it to his wife so she could put it back where it belonged. A happy ending and great feeling.

**** After a day at a local San Clemente, CA. beach, Justin and his family had discovered his car key fob was missing. The last they saw of them was when their 5 year old son was playing with them.

Justin thought his wife took them from their son. His wife thought Justin had taken the fob from then son. Nevertheless the keys were missing somewhere in the sand.

A passerby saw them searching for the missing key fob and told them about TheRingFinders. After he called me, agreeing to stay in the location, I met him a little more than a half hour later.

It was a 25’x 25’ spot. The usual bottle caps and small metal trash. As I was running out of search area when I got a deep weak signal. I dug more than 12” deep to my surprise it was the car key fob. Usually they are just below the surface, but the youngster must have been burying pirate treasure. Who knows, just happy for a successful search and recovery.

Lit Papi (Stage Name) called me last night explaining that he lost his girlfriend’s ring at the beach. I had just finished dinner, poured myself a cup of coffee, and let him know I would be on my way.

When I arrived Lit Papi met me and showed me where they had been sitting and explained what happened. The area was not large, so I knew this would be a quick search. I searched on the one side of the area, finding only a nickel. I then began in the other direction, when after one pass, I got a good signal, put in the scoop, which now had the ring inside. He was happy to be able to get his girlfriend’s ring back. They would both sleep well now, I was sure.

I got a call from Alessandra, she had lost her ring in the sand at the beach. She had been sitting on her towel when a bee landed on her, she began swatting at it to make it fly away, and got up to flee the ornery critter. After the commotion she looked to see that the ring she had been given for graduation was gone. She had not left the area, so I told her I would be right over to conduct the search.

When I got to the beach, I walked out to where she said she would be, and as soon as she saw me began to wave me over. She then proceeded to show me what had happened, and how she ran. She was very helpful with the information she provided. I began my search, and after about 5 passes, I had her ring back on her finger. She was too young to grant me permission to use her image here, so you get me this time, as she agreed to take my picture. It was a pleasure to make her day!

Ana contacted me after she had lost her ring in the water at the beach. She had gone into the water, when a wave hit her, knocked her down, and her ring came off only to disappear into the wet sand. It was a ring her father had given her, so it meant a lot to her. When she contacted me the tide was coming in, and the best search opportunity would be the next low tide, so we arranged to meet at the beach the next morning.

When we met at the beach, Ana walked me out to the area of the loss, and showed me what had happened. I then got my equipment, set up and began my search. I was going into the water to make sure I was able to do a thorough search. I made about 20 passes, finding little, but some nails, and a few coins, until I got a good solid signal, I scooped and pulled out a nice gold ring which I held up for Ana, who was very surprised to see it again. It was so great to restore her joy!

I was in a meeting when Patrick called me about a search for his wife’s wedding ring. They were out celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary the day before, when with a flip of the wrist her ring flew off of her hand, and into the soft sand to disappear. After some futile searching they went home, I am sure thinking this token of their love was gone forever. The next day Patrick found my number on The Ring Finders web site, and gave me a call. I told him that I would be able to do the search in the evening because of the meeting. He was not going to be able to meet me there, but gave some pictures of where the loss occurred, as well as a picture of what the ring looked like, and I told him I would let know if I was able to find the ring.

I got to the beach, and because of the pictures Patrick provided, was able to find the exact area of the loss. I set up and began my search. I found a few pieces of trash metal like tin foil and bottle caps. On my 4th pass I got a good signal, and dug. In my scoop was a real nice gold and diamond ring, but when I looked closer, I realized it was different than the picture he had sent to me, so I continued to search the area looking for his wife’s ring. I finished the search, and then called Patrick to let him know what had happened. I let him know I had found a ring, but not like picture he had sent me. He told me that he had found a picture on the internet of what he thought the ring looked like, and would ask his wife if she had a picture, and would send it to me. When I received the picture I realized that I had found the right ring, and let him know we had success. We arranged to meet the next day for the return. It was nice meeting them and being able to give this meaningful item back to them, and see their joy.
