Christmas Tree Recycle Lost Ring Omaha Nebraska

Co-worker told me about a post for a ring that was lost when recycling Christmas trees, she passed on my contact information and the owner and I were soon in touch.

Christmas tree was dropped off in a parking lot at a local soccer field.  Due to the unseasonably warm weather on that day, the area was somewhat muddy.   Fast forward to our first look at the area, the tree pile had grown substantially and winter was back in full force.

He described how he had thrown the tree, returned to his car and noticed that his ring was gone.   We pulled about 20-30 trees out of the pile in the area where had tossed his tree. I pulled out my detector and heavy duty sharply pointed metal detecting shovel and figured we’d take a quick look.  The first promising signal, I took the shovel and with quite a bit of force hit the ground.  I think I managed to chip about 1/8 inch of frozen solid mud.  Unfortunately, with the number of trees and ground conditions, finding it at this time wasn’t going to happen

In the next couple weeks, I drove by numerous times and stopped on a Saturday to take a look when we had a warm spell again.   No luck, couple weeks later all the trees were finally gone and the weather was as warm as it was going to get for a while, it was time.

When we got there the parking lot gates were now shut and parking was limited to side of the street.  I left my shovel in the truck thinking we would just look at surface targets.  After about half hour, I found a good signal,  Rachel swept some pine needles away and some loose dirt.  You could see the golden edge of a ring!   While I walked back to the truck to get the shovel Rachel, without much success, tried to dig it out with her fingers.

Once back to the truck I texted a picture of the ring with “I hope this looks familiar.”   I received a phone call in short order and decided we would drop it off at his workplace (Starbucks.)

Total search time: 2 hrs (several trips and weeks apart.)  Reward Accepted – two coffees!

Lost wedding ring in Provo, Utah: found

Josh was playing in the snow at a small park when he noticed that his wedding ring was gone. He tried looking for the ring by moving the snow around, but it’s really hard to find a ring that way; often it just sinks lower in the snow, or it gets stepped on and pushed into the roots of the grass. Then, he did an online search for “metal detector rental in Provo”, and found TheRingFinders.com, so he gave me a call. I was able to stop by that night after work. It took me longer to get ready, putting on my boots, snow pants, knee pads, tool pouch, coats, gloves, and scarf, than it did to find the ring. Fortunately, he had only been in a small area in the park, and we could see his footprints clearly. After just 3 or 4 minutes of searching, I found the ring!

Lost ring recovered Apple Valley, CA

While visiting at my family’s home of 50 years for my mom’s 89th birthday party, my niece, Emma (age 9) and I decided to metal detect the front yard to see what we could recover from our family’s past. 30 minutes of detecting and a few dug up pop tops, and bottle caps, we recovered this cute silver ring. Of course it fit Emma perfectly! I am not sure when or who in our family, lost the ring. I do know Emma is very happy we recovered the ring for her!

Lost Diamond and Platinum earring recovered in West River, Maryland!

I received a call on 1/21/19 for Holly stating she had lost one of her Platinum stud diamond earrings. Knowing there  isn’t a lot of “metal” to work with with studs, I was reluctant to have any hopes of recovering such a small item which is mainly composed of a non metal gem. Holly explained the circumstances in which she lost it and was 100% positive it was in a relatively small sandy area in her horse barn. We made plans to meet at the barn later that day. Once we met, Holly directed me to the barn and gave great detail in where she believed she was when she felt the earring come off. On the technical side of things, it was a challenging item to find being so small. Holly let me use its mate to “dial in” the sensitivity and other settings of my machine. Once I was able to hear the specific tone the item gave me, I got to work. Shortly thereafter…….

Here is the text from an email Holly sent me shortly after I left her with the lost earring in hand….

JUST CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR FINDING MY EARRING!  I WAS VERY UPSET LOSING IT AS IT WAS A SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY PRESENT FROM MY WONDERFUL HUSBAND.  I WILL DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS! IF YOU DON’T MIND, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THIS ON MY FB PAGE?!  AGAIN THANK YOU FOR SUCH A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE FROM START TO FINISH!

WE HOPEFULLY WILL NEVER HAVE THAT HAPPEN AGAIN BUT IF WE DO, WE WILL CALL YOU FOR SURE!  THANKS AGAIN!

HOLLY AND TODD

It makes finding a lost item extra special when I get emails like that! Glad I could be of service Holly!

#100 finally reached. Not a Ring but a Ring with a key!!!

Grand Rapids, Michigan. I got a call yesterday from a fiend, Matt V, I met at a local gas station. He was trying to start his car in this -10 degree temp and it wouldn’t start so he put the key, with a little metal wrench on the ring, in his coat pocket and walked around the car to his shed. When he reached in his pocket to get the key out for the shed, his car key fell somewhere in the snow which he hadn’t realized until he needed them again. His wife reminded him that the guy at the gas station was a Ring Finder and could help find the key. After raking the snow searching for the key he gave me a call and after a short search I found the key by the shed door.

Lost Gold Heirloom Ring at Aulani Resort Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

i
This ring find began while I was returning from an iPhone hunt in the Aulani Lagoon. A tourist lady mentioned to me while I was returning to shore that a young girl had lost her heirloom ring in shallow water the day before right near the area I was in the water. I told her I would hunt for the ring after I got out of my scuba gear and would let Aulani Security know if I found it. I returned a short time later with my Equinox and started a grid search. When I was on about the third leg a young lady met me on the shoreline and asked if I could hunt for her ring. Her name was Anna and she was on vacation from Cleveland, Ohio celebrating her parents 25th Anniversary at the resort. I told her the encounter I had with the lady in the water and at that moment she appeared. That’s her there. We all had a good laugh then I resumed the search. On about the ninth leg I got a decent tone and in one scoop there was Anna’s stunning ring. I looked ashore and nodded to Anna that I found it and she was overcome with joy. She came out into the water and gave me a big hug and was so thankful. I found out later that the ring was passed down to her from her Grandfather and was very sentimental and the thought of losing it was tearing at her heart. Anna can now enjoy her Hawaiian vacation. Aloha to Anna!

Lost Man’s Gold Wedding Ring in Columbus, OH. “FOUND”

I received an email about a lost man’s gold wedding ring lost in the snow. We just received about 4 inches of the snow the night before. The ring was lost while removing the snow from the car and shoveling. The ring was somewhere in two snow plies around the cars in the driveway. I was able to come and perform the search the same day. I flatten down the first pile with no luck, then the second pile I got a good beep. Pen pointing closer to the hard snow ball and there was the ring inside. They were very happy to have the ring returned to them. I continued with a prayer and a blessing over this couple.

About Me (January 20, 2019)

  • from Lynnfield (Massachusetts, United States)

If you’ve lost your ring or some other metal object, give me a call or text.  I charge nothing to come out, this is just a part of how I enjoy the hobby of metal detecting.  If the area is large or I’m unable to make it to your area, I’ll bring or call other experienced detectorists as I’m in a club with 70+ members all over Massachusetts and New Hampshire who would love to help when possible.

I haven’t been good about keeping my blog posts up to date. Since joining RingFinders I’ve recovered 19 of 24 rings (as of Jan 20, 2019) I’ve gone out to search for. Beaches in the summers, leaf piles in the fall, snow piles in the winter, angry spouses throwing rings, and everything in between.

My most recent find was a man who lost his ring while disposing of his Christmas tree in a brush pile. I spent 45-60 minutes detecting a small flattened area where the tree was dumped without finding the ring.  It was disappointing as the area was a bit small to have not found the ring, and the ground was frozen solid so it couldn’t have been underground. The owner called off the search as we had covered the area three times over, so I headed down the path he took through his back yard to dump the tree. I was swinging my detector along the way in case he had dropped it sooner than he thought. Just as I was about to switch off, I heard a high tone in my headphones and looked down and there was the ring sitting on the surface along the path. The owner couldn’t have been happier to return it back to his finger.

Lost Keys Found In The Snow In Grosse Pointe Woods Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Safe And Secure…..Again!

This pictured gentleman’s keys fell out of his pocket while operating a snow blower to clear the 6″ to 7″ snow that dropped in on the metro Detroit area Saturday afternoon. After a few passes in the backyard driveway he heard what he thought were sticks or something banging thru the machine. It wasn’t until he finished when he reached for his keys and they were gone. Now he was stranded and locked out as his wife was out of town. Before I got to the site today he managed to find the square portion of the car set on top of the snow in the neighbors yard. When I arrived I learned that there was a black vehicle key and his house keys still missing. Searching the drive area where he first heard the sounds in the machine my MXT said overload! and reaching down under the thin layer of snow produced the house keys and badly bent metal ring! Moving next in the trajectory where the square piece was on the snow took us into the yard next door. I knew from past searches for this type of key it produces a foil signal and a negative number on the meter depending on the key’s orientation. As my bigfoot coil sliced thru the sparkly layers of snow I got a foil/negative read about 4″ deep, cutting a deeper slice I pinpointed the key tipped slightly vertical in the snow and reaching into the snow produced the black car key! He said he was just about ready to jump up and down to warm up and as I held it up I said well this is a good reason too!
He was so thrilled that the keys were found, bringing that great feeling back to him that he and his family will be safe and secure again!
