Long Lost Boston College Ring Found at Horse Neck Beach in Westport MA

  • from Charlestown (Rhode Island, United States)
Contact:

In August 2016, while searching for a lost wedding ring in the water, I came across a Boston College ring buried underwater in the sand. Someone had tried to scratch out the owner’s name, but with the help of a magnifying glass, I was able to identify the name, Christopher P. Martin.  I searched the internet and social media for months trying to find him. I even called Boston college twice to enlist their help in locating this graduate but that didn’t help.  After six months of searching, I decided to contact WJAR Channel 10 to see if they could help me in my quest to find the owner of the ring, and they agreed. After the story aired on Channel 10, I still didn’t hear anything. My wife had an idea.  Through the Boston College website, she connected with the Facebook of the Class of 1998.  She messaged both Chris Martin and a college friend of his with a link to the Channel 10 story.  Her detective work and the Channel 10 story paid off!  The friend forwarded the link to Chris Martin, and he contacted me.  Chris told me that his apartment was broken into about 15 years ago and his Boston College ring was stolen.  He agreed to do a follow-up story about the ring return with Channel 10. With the help of my wife and Channel 10, I was able to reunite the ring with its owner.  As you can see from the videos and photo, Chris was very happy to have this ring back!    videos…….. Houston Police Department’s Dive Team and Metal Detecting by John Volek TRF-Houston

Houston Police Department’s Dive Team and Metal Detecting (Land and Sea) by John Volek TRF-Houston

Houston’s Dive Team had just received four new Garrett Sea Hunter Metal Detectors and were looking for some in-service training on their operation. We scheduled a two day training plan that would cover both land and water operations.

Training Day 1:
Our training focus for this course was the Garrett Sea Hunter Metal Detector, and it’s operational use both on land and water. The primary focus for the new Sea Hunters was to assist the dive team in the recovery of criminal evidence.

The break down was as follows…
Day 1 spend a couple of hours in the classroom discussing the Sea Hunter and then move immediately into with hands on training with the detectors.

Day 2

One day later, these guys are pulling evidentiary items out a lake in near zero visibility…it was simply extraordinary and speaks volumes of the character of the officers on this team. The Garrett Sea Hunter manual states 100 hours are needed to become proficient in the detector’s operation. These guy’s crushed it after just a few hours of hands on training.

The Houston Police Department’s Dive team’s cohesiveness was very impressive and their Scuba Diving capabilities and knowledge were extraordinary to say the least.

Metal Detector Training at its finest…

These guys are a solid blue line…make no mistake.

Texas Aggie Ring Lost Found Returned!

  • from Kerrville (Texas, United States)

Wednesday evening I received a call from Karen who said she found me by looking for Fredericksburg, TX. Metal Detector on Google. Karen told me that after removing brush and leaves from their yard to a burn pile her husband, Royce, noticed his Texas Aggie Ring was missing.  She asked if I could possibly help locate it. Being a Texan I asked her how big the yard was and if she had a good idea where it could have been lost. She answered “the yard is large but the area it might be in was only about a half an acre or so”. I said to her “If it’s in the yard then I will find it!” Knowing how important an Aggie ring is to a graduate of Texas A&M I made an appointment to meet with them today.

I decided to take my 9 year old grandson, Jake, with me on this recovery. After picking him up from school we headed over to their place east of Fredericksburg. Upon arrival at the house and after introductions were made we walked the different areas of the property that they had worked in. Well, the area was much larger than ½ acre and was spread out to about 100 yards from the house. I asked the investigative questions determining what, how, when, where. I came to the conclusion that the Aggie Ring could be anywhere in about a two acre area. Unfortunately Royce could not recall exactly where he happened to take off his gloves that day. With that in mind, Jake (he has his own detector and knows how to use it) and I “suited” up. I instructed him to start around the burn pile and I started  the yard area around the house. Knowing the lost gold ring was going to be big and on the surface I concentrated high tones. After about 25 minutes of swinging my Garrett AT Pro I received the unmistakable “BIG gold tone” in my headphones. Luck was with us! Reaching down and parting the grass was Royce’s huge Aggie ring. I waved to Jake to come over to where I was,  Royce must have sensed our excitement as he headed over to where we were. He gave out a big Aggie WHOOP and danced around for a while! Royce got Karen and we all did some dancing and hugging (Jake too)!

It sure was great to meet Royce and Karen and it was an honor to recover Royce’s lost ring for him. It was just as exciting to have Jake involved in the return. He and I had high fives and smiles all the way home. He sure has a story to tell his classmates in school tomorrow. Thanks goes to Royce and Karen for contacting TheRingFinders.com and for the handsome reward. Jake will get his share and the rest will go towards more metal detecting equipment for both of us.

Lost & Found Ring New Westminster, BC

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Snow eats rings, cellphones & keys…We don’t get much snow anymore here in Vancouver, but this year we can’t get rid of it…That being said the calls are coming in for help and today I had a search for lost keys in Mission BC & a search for a lost wedding band in New Westminster, BC.

The drive to Mission was over an hour and I searched the areas that the young man show me for an hour but no keys…After discussing the search areas he went back and found his keys in his garage. It happens a lot when we close off the area where people think they may have lost their item, when its not found it makes them look in other places they may not have looked before, this time it worked!

Just when I got back home I received another call from a young man who said he thought he may have lost his ring in the backyard where he was barbecuing the night before. We discussed the search and arranged for me to go there and meet his wife and look for the ring.

We met and I started the search and within minutes I found his white gold ring. I love my job and when I find what I’m looking for it makes me very happy!

Found Wedding Ring at English Bay Beach… Flying Home to Owner

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I got a call Friday and the young lady asked me what the chances are in finding a ring that was lost earlier in the week at English Bay Beach…She thinks it was lost there but wasn’t 100% sure of the location.

When I get calls like this I like to ask lots of questions and one was, why do you think it was lost at English Bay? She replied that she was in town on business and at lunch she went to the beach, ordered a hamburger and sat on a log enjoying a sunny day. After eating the hamburger she walked to the Watersedge and washed her hands, then went back to her hotel where she realized her ring was gone.

To me it made the most sense that the ring must have come off when she was washing her hands and I felt confident if she could put me in the right area we’d have a good chance of recovery. That being said it was lost for four days and there’s always a chance some other metal detectorist may have found it.

The other factor was that she was now back home in Ottawa, Eastern Canada, 4 hour flight away. Saturday morning I picked up my metal detector and headed to the beach, I took pictures of the area she believed she was sitting and she confirmed the location…You have to love the internet! Without it, people wouldn’t find TheRingFinders and no second chance!

Within a couple of minutes I found her wedding band! I get as excited as the people who lose it when I see it in my scoop. I quickly took a picture of the ring and text messaged her it was found.

I then raced over to FedEx and sent it back home to a very happy young lady.

Wedding Ring Lost in Central Louisiana – Found

  • from Lafayette (Louisiana, United States)
Contact:

I received an email from Jason saying that his wife, Patrice, had lost her platinum engagement ring while playing with her kids in their back yard. She then bought a detector and tried to find it, without success. He was asking about my services and availability. I was able to start the hunt the next morning at 7:30. Patrice grabbed one of my detectors and helped with the search. The search area was not very large. It included a fenced back yard, a strip of un-fenced land bordering a lake and part of the neighbor’s back yard. About halfway through a grid search in the fenced back yard, I had a good hit and saw the ring, visible when the thick grass was moved. I was happy that the lake had not accepted the ring during their time fishing.

Thank you Jason and Patrice for the generous reward. This will help keep our services available.img_0568img_0589img_0590
