Engagement Ring Found in Dorr, Michigan

I received a text today from Stephanie, stating the engagement ring she received in January is missing.  She remembers taking if off by the kitchen sink when she was making a cheesecake a few days ago, but couldn’t say she remembers putting it back on.  As a volunteer fire fighter, she was called to a house fire that day, and then immediately after to a grass fire.  When she arrived at the grass fire she realized her ring was missing.  A few days later a friend told her about RingFinders and she sent me the text.  Gregg Larabel and I headed out immediately and met Stephanie at her house.  She recalled the day for us, and we quizzed her about her search so far.  She said she searched all over the house and in all the clothes she was wearing that day.  She invited us into the house and showed us where she remembers putting the ring, on the counter next to the sink.  She had already checked the drain in the sink.  Our standard question for everyone is, “Did you save the trash from that day?”.  She said “Yes, and it’s in the bin outside”.  She also recalled taking off her wet gloves at the house fire, which is a common way for a ring to come off the hand.  Seeing that she had checked the house so thoroughly we decided the site of the house fire was our next place to search.  As we were leaving we passed the trash bin and decided to check that first.  There was one small bag right on top and she said, “this was all the trash since the day the ring was lost”.  Gregg opened that small bag and I stuck the pinpointer on a brown paper bag crumbled up which was right on top.  The pinpointer started to vibrate and buzz right away, and I thought there must be some tin foil in there.  But when we unfolded the brown paper bag, THERE IT WAS!!!!!!  All three of us stood there with our mouths wide open for a second, in shock, but what a way to brighten your day.

Lost Rose Gold Ring in House Found with Dowsing Rod in Mt. Clemens Michigan

A Rose Between 2 Tee Shirts?……

….Got a call early this morning from Bri. She stated that somehow, somewhere her engagement ring went missing about 1am. On the way out I learned that she remembered putting it in her shirt pocket and just before falling into bed the shirt went into a clothes hamper. She searched the hamper and nothing was there. On site I noticed 2 piles of clothes close together. Assembling my dowsing rod, baiting it with gold to help form an attraction and extending the antenna I swept the rod to cover the whole room. From about 8 feet away the rod locked onto the clothes pile on the left. Grabbing my Garrett pinpointer metal detector we started to lift and scan thru the clothes. A few articles of clothing down the pinpointer buzzed, but it had buzzed on the zippers/snaps prior. Lifting a tee shirt off the pile revealed this gorgeous custom design rose gold ring with diamonds! Bri was stunned that her ring was not anywhere near what she remembered but thankful that a rose between 2 thorns can take on many forms!

Man’s Wedding Band Lost, Found, and Returned on Oak Island, NC

On Friday, March 12th, I was out doing some metal detecting on the beach after a long spell of being stuck in the house due to COVID-19. After finishing up, and with little to show for my efforts, I checked my cell phone for any calls or text messages. I had a text from Travis that said in part, “Jim – have a silver ring Lola red somewhere in an azalea bush on Oak Island at my in-laws house. Let’s touch base and see what your availability is when you have a moment. Thanks!”  This was my first lost ring call for 2021 and I was ready. I called Travis and asked what the situation was. He stated that he had lost his ring almost a year ago in some azalea bushes. I told him I had nothing going on and could be there in a couple of hours. He said he’d text his mother-in-law and let her know I was coming. In the meantime, I did a quick Google search to get an idea on what type ring I was looking for and get an idea of what numbers on the detector to look for.

When I got to his in-laws house, I knocked on the door and met Travis’ father-in-law, Bill. We introduced ourselves and he showed me the bushes where the ring was supposed to be. I asked how the ring ended up in the bushes. Bill said that Travis had been cleaning out a bucket and when Travis threw the water from the bucket into the bushes, the ring went with the water. Bill also stated that he had used a metal detector himself but wasn’t able to find the ring. I grabbed my Equinox 800 and pin pointer out of the car and went to work. The back of the bushes were accessible so I was able to work the detector in and around the low hanging branches and over some roots. Within just a couple of minutes, I hit a target showing a solid 14 on the 800 VDI (visual display indicator). I wasn’t positive I had Travis’ ring because with the description I got from him and my Google search, I expected a higher VDI number. I learned a long time ago that with all the different metals and percentages of metals being used to make rings and other jewelry, things don’t ring up on a metal detector like you’re expecting. Also, if I’m looking for someone’s lost treasure; every signal I get needs to be checked. Because of all the low branches, I wasn’t able to get to the target from where I was. I marked the spot with a stick and made my way to the front of the bushes. I was able to crawl far enough under the bush that I could use the pin pointer to find the target. I moved some dead leaves and Bingo! I took a quick picture and sent it to Travis asking “is this it?” Within seconds he texted me back saying “That is it!”

I called him and asked if he wanted me to mail his ring home or leave it with his father-in-law, he told me to leave the ring with his father-in-law and he’d pick it up the following week.

Lost Cartier Diamond Love Bracelet Found in South Kingstown Rhode Island

I received a call for help from Jen, after she lost her diamond Cartier bracelet somewhere on her 10-acre farm.  I told Jen that I would be happy to search for her bracelet the next day, which happened to be St. Patrick’s Day.  My wife accompanied me on the search.  Jen thought she may have lost it while she was feeding the farm animals.  My search included the outside pens and inside stalls of the horses, goats, and chickens but no bracelet was found.  After I confirmed that she had cleaned the animal stalls recently,  Jen directed me to an area at the far end of the property where wood chips and animal waste are dumped.  I searched this area and located half of the two-piece bracelet.   The second half could not be found in this same area.  I believed that it would probably be the areas where the animals are kept or where the hay and feed are stored.  I reminded my wife to keep an eye on the ground as it could be sitting there in plain sight.  Jen and I went to the pod where she keeps hay for the animals and went inside to search inside the storage container.  That’s when my wife looked down and found the other half of the bracelet sitting on top of  the ground in plain sight right outside the pod.  My wife and I were so excited and amazed that both halves of the bracelet were found and in different locations on this large property.  Jen was thrilled to have her bracelet back!  It was a very happy and lucky St. Patrick’s Day all around!

Lost White Gold & Diamonds Engagement Ring at Nanakuli Beach Park…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Lexi who lives in Kapolei and hails from Marietta, Georgia. After returning from the water at Nanakuli Beach Park Lexi picked up her towel to dry off and then realized she had placed her White Gold & Diamonds Engagement Ring on the towel before she entered the ocean. A thorough visual search of the dry sand area and the ring was hopelessly gone. I told Lexi I’d grab my gear and head that way but Google maps was showing a 30 minute delay due to freeway construction. She assured me she wasn’t going anywhere and that her father was in route to help her watch her baby daughter. I’ve only hunted this beach one other time years ago so Lexi waved me down from the parking lot as I drove by. When we got down to the beach she drew a box in the sand where she thought the ring would be and possibly where her current beach blanket was. I fired up the Nox and as I approached the beach blanket I got a nice #8 under the blanket. Lexi moved the blanket away and since diamonds were involved I grabbed my pinpointer and plunged it into the sand and got an immediate tone. I reached for the tip of the probe and could feel Lexi’s ring at the tip. As the ring broke the surface Lexi shouted, “That’s it! I can’t believe you found it so quick.” Nice easy search! Aloha to Lexi, Daughter and Dad!

Lost Ring Jersey City NJ…. Found

I received a text from Stuart saying he had lost his wedding ring while gardening on Saturday.  He said he knew it was in the bags of leaves and grass that had been cleaned up.  We set up a time for early the next day for me to come out and search the bags for the ring.  I arrived the next day and met Stuart.  He was awesome, out of the probably 15 bags of leaves he was able to tell me the three most likely candidates for the missing ring.  And, the ring was in the second bag.  He made my job easy, and I was very happy to be able to help Stuart find his ring! 🙂

Lost Diamond Ring, Kits Beach Dog Park…Found!

I got a call last night from a young man who said his wife had lost her wedding band possibly at Kits Beach Dog Park. I asked my standard questions to see how certain they were of the location and after talking for a few minutes we set up a time to meet the next morning at 8 AM, when I got there the tide was high and very close to the logs. When I met Dave and Stephanie they showed me the area that she was petting dogs and it was the front logs closest to the water, unfortunately she also pointed in the water saying she had stepped away from the log and was standing over there when the tide was out. This would put me in about 3 feet of water if the ring wasn’t found in the dry sand. Nothing like a cold dip in the ocean but I was prepared to go in and do a search if needed, fortunately I found her beautiful ring close to the logs where she was sitting petting the dogs. This ring meant the world to Dave & his wife because it was a gift from his uncle, Dave’s uncle sadly passed away last year due to  COVID-19 and as you could imagine finding this ring was extremely important to both of them. I absolutely love what I do! I’m extremely proud of my directory and the members who have joined to do exactly what I’m doing here in Vancouver and that’s helping find peoples lost smiles & helping continue the stories to these wonderful and sentimental items.

Lost Heirloom Bracelet found in Keswick Ridge, NB

So I got a call from William who lost his 10K solid gold bracelet from his grandfather, that was given to him by his grandfather just before he passed away. He believed he lost it while at the cemetery near Keswick Ridge, NB or possibly at his parents house in Fredericton, New Brunswick, while cleaning the front and back yard. To make it even worse it snowed for the next few nights covering the area. He had spent days on hands and knees trying to locate it and finally decided to look online for a metal detector rental, but found TheRingFinders and me instead. He called and we met at his house searching the front and back yards with no success. We then drove out and searched at the cemetery where he’d attended his grandfathers funeral. Snow had fallen and been plowed off the road and shoulders forming high snow banks. We started searching from where he’d walked from the road to the cemetery entrance and then searched where he’d parked along the highway. After a short search I located the ring as it had been pushed down the roadway a bit. He was actually on the phone with his family when I walked up and dropped the ring in his hand. To say he was taken aback is an understatement and I could hear hear the families reaction over the phone as he told them it had just been found.

I was so happy to reunite you with your late grandfathers bracelet, that he gave you, I hope it brings you many years of great memories as you wear and look at it.

Long lost ring, Secrete Lake Park, Casselberry, Fl….Found 19 years later!

Here is a text I received from Gissele on February 21st at 9:55pm.

“Hi Mike, I found your info on theringfinders.com. This is a complete long shot but I lost my promise ring at Secrete Lake Park in Casselberry. Back then there was a little Karate studio in the back of the park. I left my son while he was practicing and took my young daughter to go to the playground. We were crossing through the field/baseball field when my ring slipped off my finger and I can only describe it as being swallowed up by the grass. It is not expensive and has a small diamond mounted on it. I mean I lost this years ago….like in 2002! I just recently moved away, to El Paso, Texas, but have always wondered about my ring. I even tried using a metal detector and was not able to find anything. Thank you for your help. Gissele”

I answered her email right away and agreed whole heartedly that it would be a long shot but not totally impossible. I asked allot of questions like, What was the ring made of? Was it a small, medium or thick band? Were there any markings on the inside?, etc. I then sent Gissele an aerial screen shot of the baseball field and asked her to put a line where she walked and an X over the area where she lost her ring. She assured me that her ring was made of 14k gold and was a thin band. The fact that it was a smaller ring gave me hope that it was very likely still there, in the ground, waiting to be found.

You see most people who metal detect parks and school yards rarely dig those low numbers. Many times the smaller rings will sound and read the same as a pull tab or even lower, like that of a small piece of aluminum which we call “can slaw”. (Can slaw are the small pieces of aluminum that get spread all over as a result of a lawn mower hitting a can and shredding it into small pieces).

Armed with that encouraging information I headed to the park and set out my corner flags and began my tight grid search. For 3 hours I dug everything that sounded close to what a small gold ring would sound like. Rain drove me to take shelter for 20 minutes and then I continued my search. It was getting on to sunset and I was thinking of calling it a night when all of a sudden the complex turned on all the lights and it was like daylight again. With renewed energy I decided to give it another hour and moved my flags closer towards 3rd base and the short stop area. I was using my Garrett ATMax metal detector in the ZERO MODE and had blocked out all signals from 65 and up and had set my IRON DISCRIMINATION to ignore anything below 25. My final signal registered 47 on my display and showed the target to be four inches deep. I thought, Wow, that sounds really good and I carefully dug a neat plug. It was a wet muddy clump of dirt and I used my pin pointer to narrow down the targets hiding place. As the ring revealed itself I was in a great position, on my knees, to thank God for helping me to uncover Gissele’s precious lost promise ring!! The thrill, the joy and relief of being able to have actually found her ring was something that I will never forget!

I sent Gissele a quick text and explained that I had gotten out to do a search and had found a few things. Then I waited a few minutes and then sent her two photos!! Oh, and did I mention that Gissele now lives in El Paso, Texas and lost her ring 19 years ago?!!!

Lost White Gold Ring Found In Luna Pier Michigan

Beaches, Bonfires and Moongazing

Well what else is there to do in Luna Pier? That’s exactly what Dora and her friends were thinking Saturday night and into the morning hours today when the set up a get together on a private land beach to enjoy spending time together.

As the evening progressed into the morning they watched a thin waxing crescent moon rise over lake Erie. As the logs burnt away and the temperatures dropped the young group of selenophile’s decided to part company. It wasn’t until later this morning Dora realized her ring was missing. On site we checked the beach area and worked towards her house searching the path she travelled. Nothing in the sand was found. Getting closer to her house in a grassy area I got a great signal where white gold registers on my MXT. Reaching down revealed this very unique design white gold ring! Dora concluded that it must have come off while reaching for her keys in her pocket. Now the memories of losing her ring are replaced with thoughts of great friends, beaches, the crackling of a bonfire and the serenity of moonglow!
