Received a call from Amber. Amber explained that her husband lost his wedding ring while playing in the surf and getting “rolled” by a wave. Amber said she had someone else out to look for it and he could not locate the ring. After gathering details and checking tide and surf data I decided that Tuesday afternoons low tide would be a good time to try for the ring. Shortly after arriving at the beach I began a “meticulous” search grid from the wet sand down into the surf. About 45 minutes later I had the ring in my scoop. The waves were pretty rough and I myself got “washed” a few times but still managed a successful recovery. Another happy couple!

“Sunday afternoon my husband was boogie boarding with our son in Cape May. My husband has recently lost some weight and therefore his ring was a little loose. A wave knocked my husband off balance, and a secondary wave wiped him out, losing his ring in the tide.
I called one service and they were unable to locate the ring right after it happened.

Last evening I received a text message from Meg around 10:30pm. Meg explained that she is staying at Angel Of The Sea B&B here in Cape May. She was sitting on the 3rd floor balcony, taking in the evening with her husband when her wedding ring slipped off her finger and rolled off the porch falling into the flower beds / shrubbery below. Meg said that she had been searching with her husband for a while and would really appreciate some assistance. I took the short ride over from home and met up with the couple. After searching for about 20 minutes I was able to recover her ring at the base of some bushes beneath the porch. Meg and her husband were very relieved to have the ring back! Another happy couple!

Lost gold chain

This recovery all started when I got a call from the ‘Ohana letting me know that a chain and pendant had been lost in the water at Poka‘i Bay. I was down the road when I got the call, so I quickly gathered all my gear and headed out to help.

When I arrived, I talked with Triton who is the brother of Mercedess and learned where they believe it was in the ocean and that one of our local lifeguards Mike Eckart had jumped in the water to help. I powered up my equipment, hit the water, and began working a few grids. After talking with the mike and covering the area, I finally got a solid tone — and there it was, right inside my scoop: a beautiful gold chain and pendant.

With a loud “CHEE-HOO!” I held up the scoop, and the kids who were showering and getting ready for a party started yelling, “Did you find it?!” I proudly held up the gold chain and said, “I found it. What was lost is now found.”

Mercedess walked down to the edge of the water and gratefully got the chain out of scoop. The beach was full of joy, and it was such an awesome moment to be a part of.

Mahalo for allowing me Mike to be a part of returning something so precious. What was lost is now found. Much love.

Received a call from Andrew Monday evening. Andrew explained that he and his family had quite an adventure unfold Sunday afternoon. While Andrew, his brother, and dad (Jack) were at their boat slip, Jack knocked his sons cell phone into the water. Jack jumped in and dove down to retrieve the phone and when he came back up he struck his head on the prop of his boat, this required a trip to the ER to have the wound stapled closed. During the ordeal Jack also lost his wedding ring of over 35 years! Made plans to meet up with Andrew at low tide yesterday. After moving a floating dock over, to work off of, I managed to recover both the phone and ring. Jack was elated to have his ring back! and sons phone too (which was still on and working) lol……. Another happy family!

“This past Sunday was a day that I would like to soon forget!
I have a small condo and boat slip at Harbor House Condos in Ocean City. While cleaning my boat I knocked my son’s phone into the bay. Tyler and Jenny planned a relaxing getaway in Brigantine, NJ for one week. They were looking forward to sun, surf, and peace.

During one sunny afternoon, they headed to the beach to enjoy the calm breeze and warm sand. Everything was perfect.

As Tyler settled into his beach chair, he removed his wedding band and placed it in the chair’s pocket for safekeeping.

Man’s Yellow Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Ocean, Recovered and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

This little adventure started Wednesday around 3:30 pm with a text from Kelly saying, “Hello is this Jim Wren? I was just searching online and came across Ring Finders which lead me to your contact. My name is Kerry, a poor soul who lost his dang wedding ring here in North Myrtle Beach. It popped off while throwing a football around in the shallow water where the tide comes in just outside our hotel. Just curious if you might be available Jim? Feel free to respond via text or call. I’m here until Saturday this week. If not, it’s no problem at all. Thanks for your time, man.” I immediately checked the tide tables; low tide was just before 2 pm.  I then called Kelly to discuss the circumstances. He said he had lost it about an hour prior to his text and was in thigh to knee deep water.  I told him I’d be there in about 15 minutes, grabbed my detector and was on my way.

When I got to the beach, I met Kelly’s brother when he came up to me. He introduced me to Kristen, Kelly’s wife. As we were talking, Kelly came up and showed me the area where they were throwing the ball. Luckily, Kelly is right-handed, so the ring didn’t get thrown off. I was 2 hours behind the tide change, but the ring should be in water no higher than my waist. I started an east/west perpendicular grid search, going low and slow with the detector. I wasn’t picking up any targets at all. As the tide was coming in I was working in deeper and deeper water.  I was finally up to my chest when I got a great signal. The signal was what I expected for a man’s yellow gold ring. I was able to get a scoop of sand out, which was empty – no ring. As I find the target again with the detector, I wasn’t paying attention and got hit with a big swell that knocked me backward. From that point, I wasn’t able to find the target again, even though I tried. To get me back in the area on my return, I walked off the steps back to the beach and even with a drainage pipe. Total of 89 steps, give or take with me getting pushed by the current. I wasn’t able to do a good search, so I told Kelly I’d be back the next day, Thursday and called it a day.

I showed up around an hour before low tide so I could get a head start. I met Kelly and Kristen to let them know I was there and went to work. I walked off the 89 steps, plus another 15 or so steps. I’d rather search too much area than not enough. I started my east/west grid and extended my north and south boundary lines. I was getting nothing! The ring should be right there, but I wasn’t finding it. I then started a north/south grid line running parallel to the beach. For me, parallel grids are more difficult because it’s harder to keep a straight grid line. Still with no luck, I took a break to refocus. After my break, I started another east/west grid, tightening my grid lines. I finally hit the target I found the day before and dug it out of the ocean sand. Boom, it was a cap off an orange juice bottle. I had a few choice words and continued. I took another 4-5 steps and got a very iffy signal with the numbers jumping all over the place. I dug the target, shook the wet sand out in the water, and when I looked inside the scoop and there was Kelly’s yellow gold wedding band looking up at me amongst all the shells. I walked up the beach to where Kelly and Kristen had been sitting all day. I was exhausted but made it look worse than it was so Kelly and Kristen would think I was done. I had slipped Kelly’s ring on my index finger and when he was talking and looking away, I held my hand up and when he turned towards me, he saw his ring and froze. I got him! After I gave him his ring, I learned that his and Kristen’s rings were very special and sentimental to them. Both rings were custom made and each of their rings had 3 stones in them that they got from Kelly’s mother and grandmother. Priceless!

Received a call from Daniel after he was referred to me by Cape May Police Dept. Daniel explained that his wife had dropped both of her rings in the sand two days ago while at the beach with family in Cape May Point. Daniels wife had taken the rings off to apply sunscreen and simply forgotten about them on her lap, a very common mistake, btw. A nearby good samaritan had lent Daniel a metal detector but they had no luck recovering the rings themselves. I gathered some details from Daniel in regards to location and he was also able to send me a dropped pin to get me as close to the area as possible. I arrived on the beach in CMP first thing this morning and began searching. I was able to recover both rings in about 25 minutes and return them to Daniel before he and his family left to return home. Nothing like ending that vacation on a high note! Another happy couple!

Christina reached out to our group page at “TheRingFindersNewJersey.com” after she lost both her engagement and wedding bands in the surf. Christina explained that while playing with her children on a boogie board she felt her rings “slip right off” after sending her child to ride a wave. I took the short ride from Cape May up to Ocean City and met up with Christina and her husband. Her husband had already wrote the rings off as he believed they were “gone forever”, to which I replied “lets see what we can do, lol”. I gathered some details from Christina before entering the surf and managed to pull both rings from the waves in about 10 minutes! Granted they dont always go that quickly, lol. Another happy couple!

Received a message last evening from Ashley. Ashley explained that she dropped a ring in the sand while on Queen St beach today while applying sunscreen. This ring had some pretty significant sentimental value as it had been passed to her from her parents. Ashley had already returned home to Philadelphia before finding my contact information that was recommended to her in “Cape May Live”. We chatted a bit last evening and I headed out after getting off duty this morning, first thing. She was able to markup a screen shot of Queen St beach to help get me in the right general area. After about 20 minutes of searching i had Ashleys ring in the scoop. Her friend picked it up this afternoon and itll be back on Ashleys finger the weekend! Another happy ending!
