Gold ring lost in San Francisco Bay….RECOVERED!!!

The sun had set 30 minutes earlier and the fog meant no moonlight would be available.  The tide was going out of the San Francisco Bay at a rapid clip.  The water temperature was approximately 53 degrees and the ambient air was about 55 degrees.  I dressed in my farmer john wetsuit and fired up the Equinox 800 knowing that this recovery was possible, but would likely be difficult.

Earlier in the  evening, Ben contacted me stating that he had lost his heirloom gold wedding band at a private beach club while performing a “plunge” in the bay.  He could narrow the search to a 10×10 foot area of water about waist deep.  The request was made for immediate mobilization for a recovery effort.

After meeting Ben at the Aquatic Park, he escorted me to the beach location… a beautiful little private section of the beach along docks housing historical ships for the maritime museum.  An aesthetically pleasing and adventurous treasure hunt was now under way.

I entered the water for a hasty search of the area and made 4 passes from the top of the beach to chin deep water.  The only light was provided by the headlamp I donned on my head.  The water was void of any targets.  I had to test the coil against the sand scoop to be sure it was functioning proper.

On the 5th pass I hit a jumpy 16-17-21 target in chest deep water, the only thing I had detected in 30 minutes of searching.  It would take several attempts to collect the object in the sand scoop, but upon inspection…a ring, a gold band…WE HAD MADE THE RECOVERY!!!

If I’m being honest, this was one of my proudest recoveries.  I felt the part of a true treasure hunter searching cold water, in the dark, beneath the tall ships of the maritime museum.  The owner of the ring, Ben was both astounded and grateful that the ring he once thought lost was back in its rightful place on his finger.

Found & Returned 24 karat Gold Ring/Virginia Beach

I’ve been driving across America for the last two months shooting my doc-u series on my members and people they have helped. I’m in Virginia Beach now with the gig master Steven Andrews. We get up early one morning to go search the beach after the ”BeachIt” Country music festival but we were asked to leave the area for safety reasons. So we started down the beach a little bit and I found a beautiful 24 karat gold ring with a heart on it. Someone came up and told me the guy over there who was detecting was looking for a ring. I caught up to him and he told me an East Indian lady had lost a gold ring, and he was looking for it.

I asked, did you know where she lived? He said no I think she was staying in a hotel here and she may be coming back to the beach later. I asked if he saw her to please tell her to call TheRingFinders, I may have found her ring.

My friend Steven Andrews and I headed up the beach and two hours later Steven got the call we were hoping for… It was the lady who had lost the ring, she described it perfectly, we met up with her and we’re happy to give her ring back.

This is my first recovery for someone on my trip and it felt so good to hand back that beautiful ring and see her smile… A big THANK YOU!! to the Detectorist who saw her and told her to call TheRingFinders.

Lost Golden Tungsten Wedding Band at Aulani Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring find began on Sunday May 14, 2023 in the afternoon when I received a text from Miranda from Wisconsin and was on her honeymoon staying at the Aulani, Ko Olina Resort. She texted that her husband Tyler was in shallow waist deep water and his Wedding Band came off and can’t be found.  She said they would be leaving the next day.  Thinking this would be a quick easy find, I grabbed my gear and headed to the resort.  Miranda & Tyler met me on the beach and showed me the extreme edges of the grid I would hunt.  After about 30 minutes I completed the grid search and expanded in all directions without any luck.  After talking to them, I said I’d do a scuba search in deeper water when I returned from a business conference in Jacksonville Florida.  While I was gone I got a shallow water request at 4 Seasons Ko Olina for an engagement & wedding band so I asked my trusty back up Kai if he would hunt that while I was away.  That was followed by another request more left then the previous request for a platinum band.  In addition to Kai’s successful recovery of those two requests he stumbled across a golden tungsten during the search.  When I returned and Kai gave me the ring I noticed the exact matching initials & date in the pic Miranda had texted me of their ring.  I immediately texted them the great news and you can see they joyously got the ring today and sent me the “Shaka”.  Huge Mahalo to Kai and a Wonderful Aloha to Miranda & Tyler.

Roadside Diamond Ring Found!

On December 29th, Cole was driving home late at night along a winding road in Woodbridge, Virginia. He tossed out a cigarette butt and his beautiful new diamond ring unexpectedly flew off his finger into a roadside ditch. He saw the rings trajectory, stopped, and looked for the ring to no avail. The next day he called me, and we set up a time to meet so he could show me the area and I could begin the search.

The ditch is close to a busy, winding road. I wore my yellow safety vest, used warning reflectors, and turned on the emergency flashers on my SUV. The ditch had a lot of debris, and the search was slow. After a few hours, it was getting too dark to continue. I told Cole not to be discouraged as I would schedule another search as soon as possible.

As Cole drove off, I discovered my SUV battery was dead! Apparently, emergency flashers on newer cars drain the battery much faster than the cars I grew up with. I couldn’t even open my electric hatchback to access the jumper cables. Thankfully my heroine, Mrs.E., came to my rescue with a portable jump starter.

On January 7th, I returned to the ditch to continue the search. After two more hours of searching, I found the ring deep in the debris. I texted Cole with the great news, and we met so I could return his beautiful ring!

White Gold Wedding/Engagement Band Set-Found!

Ryan contacted me several weeks ago about his wife’s white gold wedding/engagement band set she had lost in a grassy area of the apartments where they lived in Chattanooga.  Because of his busy work schedule he had a difficult time getting the search arranged.  I think he had actually purchased an off-the-shelf metal detector at a local store, but was apparently overwhelmed with the large amounts of metallic trash in the ground.  We finally managed to arrange a search on June 9th.  I arrived at the location at 7:15 PM on June 9th.  I started my search as soon as I got the story from him, because we didn’t have much daylight left.  Around 35 minutes later I found the engagement band portion totally hidden below the grass around four feet from the base of a large tree.  It took me right at an hour more to find the wedding band portion, and it was about twenty feet from where I found the other half.  It ended up being in an area outside of the original search zone.  The grass had been cut, so maybe that’s how it ended up being over there.  This portion of the ring was in full view of anyone walikg by, so it’s amazing nobody had seen it.

Lost Gold Ruby & Diamond Eyed Skull Ring at Kuhio Beach Waikiki…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Suemi who was on vacation in Waikiki from San Francisco California.  While her husband Mauricio was playing volleyball in the water at Kuhio Beach he spiked the ball and his most favorite Gold Skull Ring went flying off into chest deep water.  I just finished doing my yard work and told Suemi I would pack up my gear and head down to Waikiki and call her once I was parked.  Thankfully, parking and traffic was light.  When I arrived we talked by phone and Suemi guided me to her location on the beach.  She pointed in the water where Mauricio had been standing for 2 long hours since he lost the ring.  I briefly explained to Mauricio that I was going to do a grid search and to just remain where he was.  He pointed directly in front of himself saying that was the direction he spiked the ball.  The second leg of the grid was directly into that area and I got an immediate hit on the Nox.  In one scoop there was the most stunning ring I’d ever seen.  24+ grams of gold and one ruby and one diamond eye.  If you look close the skull is puffing on a stogie! The ring must have meant a ton to Mauricio as the entire family started celebrating with him and cheers ran up from the tourists on the beach.  What a wonderful family enjoying their last day in paradise.  Aloha to Mauricio, Suemi and the family!

Cartier ring found in Lake in the Hills

I receive a text from Yulia inquiring about a possible ring search.  Later in the day we spoke on the phone, she informed me that her husband  had lost his wedding ring somewhere in the yard while doing some yard work.  He had taken his ring off and put it in his pocket in fear of losing it while digging up some bushes. Within a half hour he noticed that his ring wasn’t in his pocket anymore.  He was using a tool in the garden and was keeping it in the same pocket as his ring. At some point he pulled the tool out of his pocket and the ring fell out at the same time. He had only been in two places in the half hour since he put the ring in his pocket. The front flower bed, and a raised garden in the backyard. When I arrived I did a thorough search of the flowerbed in the front yard. Nothing.  Yulia then showed me the area around the raised garden where her husband had been working.  No luck there either. Yulia then said that she remembered him walking from the raised bed into the back door of the house and asked if I could search his path. I said, of course. A few steps towards the house and I got a solid 13 on my Equinox 800. I didn’t see it at first glance. So I used the pinpointer and buried deep in the thick, plush grass was her husband’s Cartier ring!!

Engagement & Wedding Ring Set Lost in the Water…FOUND by Ring Finder in Nashville, TN!

Sunday evening (June 18, 2023), I received a call from Sam and Jon.  Sam explained that the day prior she had lost her white gold wedding ring in a lake in Nashville, Tennessee.  This was actually 3 rings — the engagement ring soldered between 2 wedding bands.  Sam was trying to save her dog from drowning (dog is doing great) and the wedding ring set slipped off her finger in about 2 feet of water.  I was off from work the next day, so we arranged a search for Monday morning.

I met Sam and Jon at the lake around 10 am on Monday.  We were in-between rain showers, but the sky was clear at the moment.  I began searching with my Minelab Equinox 800 with the 10×5 Coiltek coil.  The lake bottom was very rocky (both large and small rocks), so the smaller coil allowed me to get into the tighter spaces.  I searched the main area where Sam thought she fell for about an hour.  I only found a fishing lure and some junk metal.

I asked Jon where he thought Sam fell at.  Both Jon and Sam walked over to the shoreline where he was standing when it happened.  I was detecting closer to the shoreline and caught a glimpse of something shiny.  I put my goggles on and dipped my face into the water.  Sure enough, it was Sam’s wedding ring set!  I picked it up and cupped it in my hand.  I stood up and Jon said, “I think Sam fell right where you’re standing at”.  I asked Sam if she thought this was the right area and she wasn’t sure.  I then said, “I think we need to call it a day and head home.”  Both Sam and Jon looked puzzled.  I then said, “because, I just found it!”  They said, “no way!”  I held up the ring for them to see and they were both so happy and relieved.  I really love this part of the search!  I walked over to them and handed Sam the ring.  She was so happy to have it back!  We all gave each other a high five and took some photos.  It had just started raining, so that was perfect timing.

Sam was standing much closer to the shoreline than she remembered, but she was also in a panic with her dog.  I’ve learned that our memories can be a bit off, but we just have to keep expanding our grid search area.  In the end, it doesn’t matter how long it takes, I’m just happy we found it and it’s back where it belongs.

We enjoyed a nice chat on our walk back to the parking lot.  They thanked me again for my efforts and we parted ways.  Another happy ending!  I thank God for another successful recovery and safe trip home.  Looking forward to the next adventure…
