Lost Ring Found Under the Starlight of South Dennis, MA

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

October 2, 2023: While preparing for a monthly association meeting I just missed answering my cell phone. Luckily the caller followed the answering message and called my home line. My wife was near enough to get the phone to me before the caller hung up. The caller was Dennis and he had been cleaning off a swinging chair readying it for an hour or so of enjoying the morning sun and bright blue sky. Something that had not been seen for the previous few days of rain and heavy fog. As he brushed the leaves away, away went his wedding band.

In hours of searching he did not find the ring. At the local hardware store that rents a metal detector he was told that he would be very lucky to find the ring with their rental unit. With that said he was given information about the local guy (me) that has professional equipment for such a search and to contact him through TheRingFinders.com. And Dennis did.

As I said, I had a meeting to go to and the sun was setting about 6:30 with last light at 7PM. My luck and Dennis’s was that the meeting was very short and I could be detecting within 10 minutes, and I was. Twilight was replaced by moon light and flash lights so I could continue my searching.

I knew the ring would be somewhere within the area of the chair, fence, garden and grassy area. I covered the grassy area first as it was the easiest to detect over. No ring was to be found. Next I started between the chair and garden’s edge. I was going to leave the planted garden area for last. I had no need to, as the third swing between the chair and the garden’s edge I heard a very promising signal. A sweep with my pin-pointer and Dennis saw a glitter from his ring, even before I did. He was so fast in his motion of picking it up and putting the wedding band back where it belonged, on his finger. I never saw it happen.

Now it was time to do a bit of talking. Put retired Army and Navy men together and they can talk for hours. We cut it short and took a few pictures and said our Thank Yous and I was on my way back home knowing Dennis’s wife would have a bigger smile on her face than Dennis had on his, though it would be hard to do so.

… Margret was kneeling in the surf near the Balboa Pier when a rouge wave hit her. After recovering from that wave she realized her gold chain with two pendants and a small gold ring were missing. These had been given to her by her father and very sentimental to her.

John, a family friend reached out to call me for help. We met on the beach as the tide was rising a half hour after the loss. Normally our best chance for a recovery is the next low tide. I like to meet as soon as possible to get the best shot at the location before the people leave the beach.

I did pull out my detector to search the incoming tide because there is always a chance the waves may push the items up the sandy slope. After a half hour working to waist deep water I was able to find the small gold ring. Margret was happy to have this ring as it was inscribed. I was able to tell her the lightweight pendants may be difficult to find as the backwash of the waves on this steep sloping beach can take it out of range for my equipment.

I returned for the next two low tides and could not find the two pendants. Actually Margret told me the ring was the most important of the three pieces of jewelry. She had thought it was so small that a metal detector couldn’t find it.

Sorry for the poor photos, I don’t carry a cellphone when I’m searching the surf. I stopped carrying my cellphone after dropping it in the surf while doing a search. ( I couldn’t recover my phone even though I realized it was missing a minute after dropping it) It happen a couple years ago  and it was an expensive search for me.

Lost Tantalum & Gold Wedding Band at Aulani Resort Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began Monday when I got a text from Jorge who was on vacation from Los Angeles and staying at the Aulani Resort at Ko Olina.  The Hotel had given him my number as the resort’s detectorist.  His text said, ” Long story short I lost a ring by the beach and was wondering if you’ve gone by recently and might have found it.  It was lost a week ago.”  Turns out the ring was actually lost by his friend Jose who had given up looking for it a week earlier, returned to LA  and asked Jorge if he could check the “Lost & Found” which put him in contact with me.  I got some details about the ring and the area lost and decided to hunt after work Tuesday.  Since Jose mentioned struggling with his young daughter getting her ready to go to the beach and after removing his ring to apply suntan lotion, after the chaos subsided, he realized his ring had disappeared somewhere in the dry sand below the Ko Olina Chapel.  I started by moving the beach chairs where I assumed he would have set the bag down the ring was on.  No luck there.  I expanded the grid search out towards the chapel and on the third leg I got an excellent tone on the Manticore.  After one scoop there was Jose’s unique Tantalum & Gold Ring in the scoop.  I returned to my car to give Jorge the good news.  We decided to meet at the Chapel for the return.  Jorge was very grateful I found his friend Jose’s ring and asked if we could FaceTime with him in LA.  “I said of course!”  When Jose appeared on the phone and Jorge introduced him to me I could tell he was extremely relieved and very appreciative of the ring finder’s service.  I’m still waiting on a selfie from Jose when Jorge gives him back his ring in LA next week.  Aloha to Jose & Jorge!

Don’t Wait To Call!

Marisa and her family were enjoying the day at the beach in Avalon, NJ, when her hearing aid fell in the sand. Despite searching for it with no luck, she remembered that she had called me before for help. I had found her husband’s wedding band when I had previously been called for assistance. As a result, Marisa had my contact information. After arriving at the beach, she showed me the location where they had been sitting. With a few swings of the metal detector, we successfully located the hearing aid.

Lost wedding band in the sand, Lavallette NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

I received a call late one evening from Lisa. She had just arrived back home after a nice weekend at the beach with her family. She was entering the water holding hands with her daughter, and when she bent down to grab a shell, their hands slipped apart, and off the ring slid. With the waves washing up, it immediately disappeared, to who knows where. After looking for quite a bit with no luck, they had to pack up and head home. She knew all the right things to do to mark the location, which she conveyed to me on the phone, and we agreed to give it a shot on the next low tide. Its obvious now she had the spot marked perfectly, because I had the ring within 45 min of starting my search. It was to far for Lisa to travel, so we decided the best thing would be for me to mail them back, so I packed them up, and by the next morning they were back where they belong.

*** Che is visiting Huntington Beach from Puerto Rico. He was making surf movies on the south side of Huntington Beach Pier. His son was going out with his surfboard for a photo shoot and handed Che his platinum / diamond wedding band to keep safe.

It was just before sunset when they finished the photo shoot. They walked off the beach to the parking lot. That’s when Che’s son asked for the ring. It had slipped off his dad’s finger, somewhere between the waterline and the parking lot. ( more than 150 yards )

A call to me at 8:30pm let us set up a meeting at the location where he had set up his camera tripod.. This is where he had spent the most time and the best place to start before the tide comes in. After a few minutes I got a great signal from something metal in the sand. A quick scoop in the sand revealed the precious and very sentimental platinum wedding band.

Che was very relieved and happy to have his son’s ring to give back. Needless to say he was feeling guilty that he had lost the ring. Now he is the hero for getting a metal detector specialist to find the important ring.

Lost ring recovered Central City Nebraska

  • from Lincoln (Nebraska, United States)

Elizabeth was out in the beautiful country enjoying a walk with her young son and dog when they ventured off the main road and through the tall grass in the ditch. When they eventually got back on the road she noticed her wedding ring of 7 years was not on her finger. Her husband tried all he could think of, weed whipping the ditch, burning it all off and buying a metal detector. The ring they felt was lost for good, even to the point of looking in jewelry stores for a replacement. That is when Elizabeth stumbled across Theringfinders.com. I took my partner, Nelson my son, so we could cover the most area in the shortest time. 35 minutes later we get the signal. We were honored to be a part of the story of returning an irreplaceable symbol to them. Rob 402-580-6933

I was out metal detecting on the beach on Sunday 9/24/2023 looking for a nice woman’s ring when I was approached by a gentleman about another  lost ring who explained he lost a wedding ring while in the water surfing. He explained the details of how he lost it. I handed him a business card and explained that I am a member of theringfinders.com metal detecting  service and that we help people recover there lost jewelry and other items with the use of a metal detector. However I also explained that since the ring was lost in deep water that there was not much I could do but would keep a eye out. And if the ring turned up I would notify him. I also had him text me a picture of the ring. since it was Identical to his wife’s ring he sent me a picture of hers. I agreed to pass the info along to others detectorist I know in the area in case it washed up and was found. Several hours later I was able to recover the ring which was not easy but glad I was able to find it. I’m always happy when I can help someone. This lost silver ring was recovered and returned at Wrightsville Beach NC.

I was out metal detecting on the beach on Sunday 9/24/2023 when I was approached by a nice woman who explained she lost a very special ring. She explained the details of how she lost it and a general area. I handed her a business card and explained that I am a member of theringfinders and that we help people recover there lost jewelry and other items with the use of a metal detector. I agreed to help her if could but it was not going to be a easy search . I told her that it was like looking for a needle in a hay stack since she lost it at the waters edge in the waves and the tide was going out which could have pulled and pushed the ring anywhere. But still I agreed to help if I could. I searched for awhile with no luck. Eventually she and her family had to leave and I told her I would keep searching and if the ring turned up I would get it back to her since we had already exchanged contact info when she sent me a picture of her ring. Later that night when the tide was lower I was still searching and decided to expand my search area since the tide and current could have moved it. I was North of the area where she lost it when I got a strong clear signal in the water. I recovered the signal and it was her ring. I texted her a picture of the ring and called her.  The next day on Monday 9/25/2023 I was able to return the ring and I was very happy to help. I asked why the ring was so special and she explained it was a ring her and her husband had picked out and bought it together while on a trip.

Lost Rose Gold w/Sapphire Ring Found Underwater in the Clinton River, Shelby Twp. Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Luv On the Rocks…..

….With just 2 months into their engagement, Derrick’s fiancée was excited to show her new ring to some lady friends. With all the stress of planning a wedding, she was excited to spend an evening with them over dinner, dancing and catching up. As the evening progressed, the ladies moved out to part of the dance floor deck that was adjoining the Clinton River. Sometime during a few fast tunes with arms flying wildly, high fiving and hugs she remembered her ring flying off and hitting something metal. The next day her and Derrick combed the ground area with no luck. When I arrived, the only place left to search was in the water. Lowering myself down onto some slippery rocks placed against a metal headwall, I was knee deep in the cloudy water. Searching with my metal detector I could only get so close to the headwall. The current was strong in this location, and I would not be able to venture out too much further without safety equipment. Scanning the metal detector out to almost waist deep water I got a good signal. Peering into the water with my snorkel mask revealed her ring resting on the edge of a flat rock with sticky muck just inches away! Derrick lowered a rope to me slacked out enough so I could go upstream a bit. Letting the current push my arm back I was able to reach down, see the ring thru my snorkel mask and grab it off the rock. A risky but successful recovery! Holding the ring up, Derrick was overpowered with energy and excitement! Upon reaching higher solid ground, we fist bumped, and both admired the ring! Not only was it a stunning rose gold band but the gemstone was a very pale yet beautifully cut Sapphire! Now with the symbol of their engagement off the rocks, they are ready to rock and roll into a beautiful life together!
