Copper Bracelet lost at Redondo Beach, CA…Found!

I received a call today to get in touch with a man who had lost a bracelet. I called LC to find out about the loss. He explained to me that it is seemingly insignificant, but that there was a strong emotional attachment to it. When he explained to me what this bracelet meant to him (something only LC could share), I understood the emotion. Also he said that he was going to be seeing the person who had given it to him in the next week, so there was a sense of urgency involved as well. I happened to be in Huntington Beach, CA at the time so I knew the time element was working against me, and headed immediately to Redondo Beach. When I got there, the lifeguard showed me where they had been looking, so I concentrated my search in that area with no success. Soon after, a family that had been next to the search area left for the day, and I proceeded to search that area as well. Not two minutes later, the bracelet was in my hand. LC and I arranged to meet at a local coffee shop so I could return his bracelet. It was a time of joy for him to see what he wasn’t sure he would ever see again. So the story of this seemingly insignificant copper bracelet continues.

May 14th I got a phone call from Julia and she asked for my help to recover her Russia Gold wedding band. I arranged to search the next day.

After meeting with Julia and understanding that this ring had travelled three continents to get to her and now it was lost after only three weeks, I had to put my best effort into recovering it for her.

Well I am glad to say after less then ten minutes Julia is wearing her ring once again.

Lost Wedding Ring Redondo Beach…Found!

This morning at about 8:00, I received a call from a young lady telling me she had lost her wedding ring. I could hear the emotion in her voice, which let me know she was very distraught. She lost it the day before, and had searched for it herself and was not able to find it. We arranged to meet as soon as possible. I knew the area she lost it in, and also knew the beach cleaners worked that area meticulously, so I was a bit worried initially about being able to find it, knowing time is the enemy we deal with. When we walked down to the area she was in, and showed me the general location, I could see that the beach cleaners had not gone over that portion of the beach, so I was very encouraged. I set up a perimeter, and began my grid. I went out, and then came back, a foil lid, a dime, a penny, and then I heard that low growling sound in my earphones from my Minelab Excalibur ll. I was standing next to her when I pulled my scoop up to see what was inside, and looked at one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry I have seen. I had showed her the foil, the dime, and the penny when I found them, so I imagine she expected the same when I reached into my scoop. All I can say is that the look of surprise, and joy which appeared on her face when I showed her what I had found was priceless. She and her husband had just gotten married last Summer, and there were some other things that made this ring very important to her. She said her husband had reassured her that it could be replaced, but she knew it would not be the same ring.

This nice young lady sent me the following email, wanting to share her experience as to what this recovery meant to her:

I lost my wedding ring at the beach on a Friday. My husband and I searched and searched the area with no success. It was a rough night to say the least. Early on Saturday morning I called the first 800 number I found after searching on the internet for help. I was in tears as the man I spoke with told me he could help me and gave me Steve Smith’s phone number. I was speaking with Steve minutes later and an hour later, Steve met me at the beach. Within ten minutes and three digs, I had my wedding ring back on my finger. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for Steve. He was quick to respond, very professional, and successful in finding my ring. Thank you Steve!!!

So the story of this ring continues. I am so happy to be able to bring this joy to people.

Lost Gold in Austin, Texas

I was wanting to get to know member Greg DeLong a little better and was planning on trying to meet up with him on my trip to Austin, Greg lives in one of my favorite local destinations and having a friend in those parts could only make things better.

Austin has clean and clear lakes, rivers and creeks, something we don’t get down her in the bayou city, so when we want to beat the Texas heat we often head up to Austin.

I didn’t get the opportunity to meet Greg on my last trip, but I left a couple of items behind at a local park for Greg to track down. This was not going be as good as having a beer and over looking some area of Austin, but I thought it might still be a fun way to get to know Greg,

After returning home from Austin, I sent Greg an e-mail telling him I had buried some gold in Austin, and if he was able to find it, he could claim the treasure as his own. I told him I would also be responsible for our lunch on my next trip if he was successful.

I provided Greg GPS coordinates, and told him his detective skills and his metal detecting experience would be necessary for the recovery on this job.  I told Greg he would be searching for a Gold Challenge Coin, 7 gold coins, and lunch if he was successful.

Greg apparently did his homework on the GPS coordinates, and e-mailed me back stating I planted the treasure-loot in an Austin park that prohibits metal detecting. Turns out all Austin parks prohibit metal detecting without an official permit issued by the Austin Park’s Department.

Told Greg, WOW looks like you will be buying lunch the next time I am in Austin. (the challenge) LOL

I asked Greg if he was going to let little things like jail stand in the way of his challenge. LOL, I thought it was funny, I think he thought I was trying to get him arrested.

Word today from Greg, I will be buying lunch on the next trip to Austin. Told Greg, his pictures better match the ones posted here if he was counting on lunch.

Lost Man’s Gold Ring in Newark, OH. “FOUND”

I received a call about a lost man’s ring. He was playing rugby with some friends then he put his ring on his shirt located in the grass. After he was done playing and pick up his shirt, he ring was gone.  He tried to look for the ring then decided to give me a call. I showed up as the sunset was disappearing. I started the search with flashlight in hand. Searching and searching, finding trash and more trash. Then there was the ring hidden in the grass. He was very happy to have the ring returned to him. And so am I.

Received a call yesterday from Domingo who said he had lost his class ring 5 days ago while planting and transplanting plants in his backyard. Domingo said after spending several days searching for the ring with no success, he located “The Ring Finders” online.

I made the trip over to Domingo’s this morning, Domingo showed me his backyard and the possible areas where he thought the ring may have come off his finger. You can see from the pictures, Domingo was in the process of a backyard transformation with several areas needing to be searched.

Domingo mentioned something about coffee and went back into the house leaving me to conduct the search for his ring. I eliminated one of the flowers beds pretty quickly and moved on to the next flower bed near the center of the back yard. I was on about the forth swing in that flower bed when I hit a pretty good signal.

I knocked on Domingo’s back door and asked him to come on out back and show me the areas again needing to be searched. As Domingo was pointing out the areas again, I held out his class ring, Domingo was pleasantly surprised.

Lost High School Ring in the Bluebonnet Flowers at Cedar Hill State Park

Hello Everyone, we got an email from a mom in a panic.  She had hired a professional photographer to take Senior Pictures of her 2 graduating Senior High kids.  The photographer took them to Cedar Hill State Park where the Bluebonnet flowers are awesome this time of year.  The photographer had them doing all kinds of poses.  The mom, Donna, saw her son turn around quickly and she said “What’s wrong”, he said, ‘my ring came off’.

Seven people looked for the ring for 2 hours with no luck.  Donna found “theringfinders” website and contacted us.  We met her at the park on Wednesday.  Understand it is against the law to Metal Detect inside a State Park.  We contacted the Ranger’s office multiple times before receiving permission to only scan, not dig at all for the lost ring.  Donna walked us through the woods before getting to the Bluebonnet fields.   We gridded off a 30 x 30 ft area and began to scan.  It took about 20 minutes before I got a non-trash signal and when I bent down I saw the glint of a ring deep in the Bluebonnets.

I picked it up and said my favorite line, “Donna, I have a question for you, would you like to have this back?” and held up the ring.  She was so excited, she thanked us and thanked us.  The ring cost over $500 and her son had only had it a short time.

I was detecting down at Huntington Beach, California when one of the Lifeguards riding an ATV came up to me and told me about a couple that were looking for their wedding ring, thinking I might be able to help them. I went down to see what had happened, and to ask if I could help. When I got to them, I could see that they had purchased a new metal detector, but one that would not work well in the wet sand. It was at that point that I realized I might be able to help them find their ring, yet I was not able to find it that evening.

At this point I will let them tell their story that they so graciously wrote to put into this blog…

 

What a miracle it was that we met you Steve!

Our 1 year anniversary was less than 2 weeks away.  My husband lost his wedding band while he was surfing in pretty rough conditions.  I immediately assumed that it was lost forever, somewhere in the belly of the sea.  But we still went back to look for it the next day, and that’s when we met Steve.  He graciously offered to help us look for the ring until he had to leave for the day.  In that short time, he wasn’t able to find the ring but we shared our information and told him about the inscriptions in case he was to ever come across it.

The next morning, we were surprised when my husband received a text from Steve telling us that he was going to go back and look for our ring.  That afternoon, my husband thought he’d swing by and do some more looking himself, and when he got there, he saw Steve was still there, waist deep in the water searching for our ring. My husband realized that if Steve wasn’t able to find it, that we probably wouldn’t either, and he left the beach.   A few hours later, Steve sent us a text to tell us that he’d found the ring!

The following night we met up with him and he shared the incredible story about how he’d found the ring.  It brought me to tears!  What a miracle it was that we met Steve!

Steve – we could never thank you enough for what an amazing blessing you were to us and how dedicated you were to finding our ring. Thank you a million times, from the bottom of our hearts – you’ll never know how much this meant to us!

Lost Wedding Ring in Trophy Club, Tx while digging a trench in his yard!

On Sunday afternoon we got a call from a gentleman who had lost his wedding ring.  He had been working all day in his yard digging a trench to relieve some standing water.  After completing the several hour project he realized his wedding ring was gone.  He and his family search for 2 hours and had no luck.  He found “The Ring Finders” website and gave us a call.   We spent about 20 minutes covering the area which was crazy with signals due to a power line running under his backyard.  I decided to re-check the trench with full descrimination, looking only for gold.  I got a hit near the end of the 15ft trench about 6 inches down.  As  I bent down and used my pinpointer through the mud and water in the trench I saw a glint of GOLD in the hole.  The wedding ring was stuck in the wall of the trench about 4-6 inches down.  I turn and ask the homeowner,  I said, “I have a questions for you” “would you like to have this back and I handed him his ring“.

He and his wife were so excited they could not believe we found it… they kept saying “you guys are good, you guys are so good“.  The wife came out and gave us hug… it was another successful hunt for the “Dallas Ring Finders”.

Lost Ring in Fitchburg Backyard Playing Football – Don’t Rent a Metal Detector, Rent a Ring Finder!

I often talk about my adventures as a Ring Finder with people at work.  Like most people, they love hearing the stories of lost rings, both wedding rings and engagement rings, being found and returned to their owners.  Every ring has a story and is so much more than just a piece of jewelry.  One day, Jason stops over and tells me that a friend of his lost his ring in his backyard.  He wanted to know if it was ok to give him my contact information.  He also wanted to know what I charged.  I explained that I ask for a small fee to cover gas and my time, and then a discretionary reward – whatever the person can afford and thinks is appropriate for the service we provide.

A couple of days had passed, and I hadn’t heard anything from Jason’s friend.  I asked if he had found the lost ring.  Jason said he had not, and would remind him to give me a call.  Jason had heard all of my stories and knew that we could probably find the ring pretty easy.  His friend Ryan was playing football with his kids in his backyard in Fitchburg.  On one throw, he actually felt and saw his wedding ring fly off and land on the ground.  Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to find it.  In my experience, what typically happens when someone begins to look for their lost ring, is that they inadvertently step on it – pushing it into the ground.  No matter how hard you look with your eyes, you’ll never find it.

Another week passed, and I again asked Jason if Ryan had found his ring.  He said that he had not, and this time just sent Ryan a text message and included me on it.  I responded directly to Ryan that we could come out that night and take a look.  He responded almost immediately and we agreed on a time to head over after work.  As I typically do, I brought my kids along who love metal detecting and ring hunting.  I talked with Ryan before beginning the hunt.  He explained how he had lost the ring and that he was determined to find it himself.  He had told his kids that if they found his ring, they could have ice cream as a reward.  Funny, right?   He also had thoughts of renting a metal detector, but wasn’t sure he would know how to operate it. I explained that he made a good decision to not rent a metal detector.  I’ve heard countless stories of people renting a metal detector and getting excited the first time it goes off.  However, a typical home owner would be shocked how much junk is hidden under your yard.

I will never forget this hunt, because it was, and still currently stands, as our fastest recovery to date.  Ryan pointed to the area that he was standing when he threw the football, and literally within 3 mins we had a signal.  We could not see the ring with our eyes, and had to use a small shovel to pry up the ground … out popped Ryan’s ring.  He was in disbelief, as was his wife … Ryan said, “You’ve got to be kidding me” probably 4-5 times.   It took longer to take our picture and post it to Facebook than it took for us to find his lost ring!

Remember, don’t rent a metal detector, rent a Ring Finder!
